I don't know about you, but I'm not much of a steak kind of girl UNTIL I came here. The baked potato, the toast, the salad, the MUH-EAT....all so, so, so delicious. All 5 of my cousins who are 14 years and younger enjoyed it as well. I mean if you got fussy kids who are picky about food, I'm telling you this place will change them.

First timers but made the trip based on Yelp. This is a very well run business that minimizes waste by charging for freebies expected else where. Takeout box? 30 cents. Sour cream? 28 cents. Credit card? Cash only. That translates into excellent food prepared fast, fresh and dirt cheap. I ordered the Farmington Special which I thought was a t-bone with soup and potato for like 13 bucks. That's what it was with two other steaks along with it totaling 3 steaks of beefy goodness. And the Texas toast. Dear sweet deity of your choice is it good. The butter must be breaded ;) My wife had the fish burger. She enjoyed it but being from Singapore it's not her favorite style of food. Being Asian and a mother, she appreciated the value. 7 year old son devoured his soup, burger steak, baked tater and bread. Cost me 2.50 11 year old daughter had the shrimp dinner with salad, tater and bread. Everything was great and fresh and cost about 5 bucks. Overall you can't go wrong. Don't expect anything fancy with presentation. Expect great food, good service and food cheaper than McCrap but quality like grandma used to make. Family of 4 dinner with steak, soup, fish, salad and drinks for less then $35. Heck yea! Only regret..not trying the great looking desserts. Only annoyance is lack of drinks. Put out some ice and a water faucet.

This place is RIDICULOUSLY inexpensive. Seriously. It's cheaper than going to the grocery store and cooking the stuff yourself. We always go on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, when you can get a huge portion of ribeye, plus texas toast, potato, and soup or salad for less than $7. It's a true neighborhood place, family-owned, so the ambience reflects that. This isn't Downtown Minneapolis, and frankly, if it was, you could multiply your bill by 10 and still have to pay for parking. The only downside for me is that the beverage portions are teeny-tiny. And they charge for refills. (Yes, I know that's usually not enforced, but it's a pain in the ass to walk up there and refill my tiny cup every five minutes.) The food can be a little sodium heavy, so the drink issue can be a problem, but I usually just get a large beverage at the nearby Kwik Trip for my drive home, and I'm good.

I love Farmington steak house, not for the ambiance (think 80's cafeteria) but man oh man, the prices for the amount of food you receive is astronomical. You can't go buy raw meat for his deal! I always get the 2.89 steak burger - which is a small steak, baked potato, salad, and Texas toast. Yep, for less than 3 bucks. I always get water, can't bring myself to pay for the tiny soda, that doesn't include refills. Overall, good food, great prices. PS CASH ONLY!

I'm not sure where to begin with this place besides its quite possibly the worst place I've ever eaten! Let's start with the weekend special which is allegedly a ribeye for $9.10. First off it is not a ribeye, I dubbed most of what they are serving as mystery meat because I am unable to tell what cut of meat it is. Most likely butcher scraps that should be used to make hamburger. The place is very dirty, half the silverware I pulled out on there cafeteria like line had dried food stuck to it. I imagine this is what a prison steakhouse would be like. The chicken noddle soup there are serving is the worst looking tasting soup I've ever had, and no that's not a typo, that's how they spell it there. The baked potato tasted like it had been reheated for 3rd day and row. Not only was my steak and steak scraps not cooked to order they tasted like they were cooked on a grill top that has never been cleaned, charred burnt taste to it. The only way this place can possibly have a four star rating is if your looking at price. But for the money you couldn't pay me to go back to this horrid place.

The most amazing steak house ever. NO BODY AND I MEAN NO RESTAURANT will ever beat their price! Cooked to order and crazy cheap. I love their cheeseburgers even more

My first time here but, it will not be the last ! I just stopped in for lunch and was going to get a Gyro sandwich but, decided to get the Every Day Special for $3.55 This is a square, chopped steak patty with Texas toast, baked potato with butter and soup or salad. I added sour cream and a soda, all for about, $5.00 I had the soup. It was beef and noodle with chunks of tender beef, celery and egg noodles. The soup was nothing fancy but, it was good. The steak patty was grilled and was tender and had good flavor. The owner and one of her daughters, pleasantly greeted me when I walked in the door. Very nice service. The interior of this place was nicer and bigger than I expected. The quality of food and the service exceeded my expectations. The prices are so reasonable, and I am so cheap, I will be back !

Phenomenonal! For the price, you just can't beat it. Excellent food and friendly atmosphere.

Greasy but large steaks served with baked potato and bread. The menu, which has daily specials, has other items, but not many. The five stars are for the prices, the portions and ease of self-serve. Basically, Farmington Steak House is exactly like the Best Steak Houses that have been around the Twin Cities for several decades, and with a similar menu. The prices are low and the service friendly. I would hesitate to call the shelves full of cars and other decorations "ambience", but it has character for a greasy spoon.

Have you ever soaked your steak in your water softener overnight for flavor? Me neither. I think that's what I ate here. Walking in I was immediately aware this place is a dive. I thought: Cool! I like dives as they're usually hidden gems of delicious. This thought continued on as I walked up to the prison cafeteria-style line and grabbed my tray. I ordered the "March special" which consisted of a New York strip steak, baked potato and salad. This is when it wasn't cool anymore. I passed on the salad as it was simply apparent there were empty bowls in a glass showcase with some bag-salad strewn about in there. I didn't feel like scraping it off the bottom of the shelving and filling my own bowl. Continuing down the line I encountered several other items to pass on that ranged from packaged condiments to fresh (dry) peppers. I then saw the toast on the grill, that looked good! I opted for a piece of that. We got rung up and she told me I got a free salad with my meal. I said "no thank you" as I watched this weird slab of meat on a plate come toward me. At least it had a couple pieces of toast and a baked potato, can't mess that up. Right? I enthusiastically brought my meal to a table by the restroom to soak in the ambiance. First bite of the steak and it hits me like an umbrella to the face (like the one the Morton's Salt girl carries). Is this a saltwater cow? What the moo? This was THE saltiest, worst piece of "meat" I've ever encountered. To be objective and fair, I had my buddy taste some of it as well. I watched as his eyes immediately got large with surprise and he blurts out a: "wow, that IS bad". I tried a few more bites and stopped. I just couldn't bear any more of the salt. This steak even had a gamy aftertaste which I have never encountered with beef before. What was I eating? With over 3/4 of the steak left, I was done with that. I moved on to the baked potato and that was raw with some disgusting melted substance on top that appeared to be butter but tasted like a strip-mall gym smells. I stopped after two bites. I moved on to the toast and was able to stomach the entire first piece. This was semi-OK. The second piece had a blast of that melted substance though so I had to call it quits. I never left so much on the table before but I was disgusted. I've read it in another review, you definitely get what you pay for here. This proves to be quite a pickle when the most expensive thing is like $12. I'm hoping you can avoid the high blood pressure saltwater steak that I had if you try this joint out. It was the worst meal I have had in years. Buyer beware... especially when you're ingesting bought things.

Good food! Really. Awful decor, I mean AWFUL! Like 70s on steroids. Buttttttttttttt..... Good food for a particular low price! Gyro plate is filling and not some frozen meat out of a box. Hamburger steak is good too. Get some kids meals to go for a ridiculous cheap takeout. No delivery. Cash only my friend.!!!!!

Service was friendly and we got our food quickly. Between the four of us, we ordered: two hamburgers, barbecue beef ribs, and a steak burger meal. Hamburgers were big, greasy, and came with very greasy fries. The ribs were huge, fatty, and came with a choice of soup or salad, a baked potato, and texas toast. My son enjoyed the steak burger that came with a potato, texas toast, and soup. Menu prices are incredibly low. Our family of four could eat at a fast food restaurant for the same amount of money that we spent on this meal. You get slightly more then you pay for as far as food quality goes. Would I consider this better quality then fast food, most definitely. If you're looking for a big, cheap, greasy, and fatty meal, this place will deliver.

The service can be rude and the place is dirty, but the ribeye special is delicious and cheap! It has an odd cafeteria style ordering. My son once wanted two grilled cheese sandwiches and the dude working the grill says you only need one and refused to make him two. weird!

I used to frequent this place years ago when I lived in Minnesota. This is the best place for anyone looking for a good steak at a low price. It's no Ruth's Chris, but if you are a college student or working man/woman on a budget, I highly reccommend giving this place a try at least once.

Delicious. Traditional fry kitchen. Purchased fish sandwich, grilled chicken and steak sandwiches all cooked perfectly. Heavy helping of home cut French fries, all for $11.00!!!! Great place for budget meals and healthier than fast food.

Has the crappiest and most outdated interior, but that does not keep me from coming back!! It is family run and they are always in a good mood! When you are getting enough steak for two people and it only cost $7 you can't really complain too much. I am here at least every other month when I have a steak craving and I don't want to cook it myself! You don't even have to get steak to get a good deal, you can even pick up a chicken sandwich w/ fries for $4 which is cheaper than McDonald's and actual fresh chicken! Bring your family here instead of bringing home fast food. You get your food "serving line" style so, go in grab a tray, tell them what you want and they cook it right in front of you. The food is by no means gourmet, but it is where the laid back folks come to get a lot of food at a great price. * cash or check only..fyi

It's a classic joint, it's cheap and good and keeping us Farmington meatntater folks fat and happy! If only they could have a dining room face lift, it just feels so gross in there in that everything is covered with years of greasy air. But it's good!

Went today, 3/28/13, for lunch. I got the New York steak and had it prepared medium rare. The steak there is good for the money you pay, and you get a huge portion! I got potato salad with mine and found it to not be very good. I tasted like it had too much mustard or something. I also got mushrooms with it. I will never get the mushrooms again as they are obviously the canned type that they don't even try and jaz up at all, very rubbery. Get some fresh stuff and toss them in with butter and garlic! The toast saves the day as always, the best thing to get! One thing is when I walked in the lady there was like "Hello guy, how are you doing today", they seem very friendly there, but then (and I don't know if she is Greek or something) she started saying a bunch of stuff I didn't understand at all, but it left the other worker just staring at her with mouth open. Even though I didn't understand it was kinda funny. Make sure to bring CASH. I once again forgot this, but the lady was really cool, just like last time, and let me eat and then leave to go down to the gas station to get some cash. I could have just left, but that's not how I am. They are very trusting, and friendly/family type of atmosphere.

This place cracks me up. My co-workers and I come to this hole in the wall establishment in downtown Farmington once in a while when we have a hankerin' for a $6.95 steak special. The little old lady behind the counter is a gem. She keeps the cafeteria line moving along as she calls out to each diner, "And vhat vould you like to dreenk, my friend?" Then she proceeds to punch in your total on her cash register that is likely 3 decades old. (Cash or check only, folks.) You can watch your meat sizzle away on the grill as you shuffle down the line and BAM! - it's on your plate lickety split. All meals are served on a humongous platter and include a baked potato, Texas toast, and a choice of soup or salad. Now personally, I prefer to stay away from the steak. Although the portion may be the size of your head, you might need more than your lunch break to chew through a couple bites. I stick with the gyros, which are served with incredibly flavorful and tender sliced lamb, onions, and a light cucumber sauce. Yesterday I paired my $4.35 gyro sandwich with a heaping side of fries, which were soggy and pretty nasty. But hey, it only cost me 94 more cents out of my paycheck. The dessert case tempts me every time with baklava, carrot cake, and cheesecake, but I have not yet succumbed. My co-workers tell me they are definitely worth the extra calories. The lunch crowd at the Farmington Steakhouse is primarily made up of biker dudes and local retirees, which provides for extra entertainment value. Sanitary conditions in the dining room are questionable and they could stand to vacuum more often than every 6 months. Whatever you do, please don't take your special lady here for a steak dinner. That's what downtown Minneapolis is for. However, Farmington Steakhouse may just be the perfect fit for your next Friday lunch outing.

Went here when we went to pick up Timothy's wedding band. Lovely day. Farmington is always where we stop when we have a jewelry need to fill (Tim's friend's family owns Gerster's jewelry store across the street ) so we needed a place to complete this unusual date night. Farmington Steak House fit the bill. Good steak, baklava, (Tim's favorite dessert) good prices. A nice surprise for such a little town. Not fancy, not pretentious, but good hard-working family people who want to make sure that you are enjoying your meal.

Gotta love this place. Yes, it's outdated. Yes, it's a bit shopworn. But if you choose your entree carefully, it is a BOON! Stick with the chopped steak, steakburgers, gyros, grilled chicken, and fried shrimp. The steaks are huge and somewhat odd--fatty, etc. The chopped steak is EXCELLENT. Juicy, flavorful. Gotta love the extra 30 cents for the sour cream for your potato (which is tasty too). The Texas Toast is loaded with butter and you can feel your arteries closing while you're there, but it all tastes yummy. The soups are homemade and the beef one is the best of the bunch. The salad is bag-o-salad, but that's fine too, especially with the $6 meal! We often talk about how our meals cost us the same as McDonald's! The fries are especially good--thick and not terribly crispy--more like strips of baked potatoes. The portions, no matter what you get, are HUGE. And where else can you get a kids popcorn shrimp meal for $1.75???? ONE SEVENTY FIVE! The family is one of the reasons we come back. We love the people that run this place. So friendly. So sweet. They always take time to talk to you. Bring cash--no credit cards!

Oh my gosh. This place has been around my whole life. Im so sad that its so far from me, but in the end that could be a good thing. This place is the best. I dont buy steak or even ribs unless I come here. No other bbq or steak place could EVER compare. When you first walk in, it kind of makes you nostalgic in a way because not only do they have awesome memorabilia from my parents time, but also from my grand parents time and its like standing in a school lunch line, which I find nostalgic, not sure if that's just me though. My parents used to be friends with the owner who unfortunately died quite a few years back. My goodness. I can almost taste their ribs now. I actually get the most excited for their awesome toast on the side. Just amazing. My mom and I felt this naggy feeling to go after quite a few years and to bring my fiance since he's never heard of it (pffft city boys.) He devoured his plate. Like. The whole thing. Do you know how big their plates are?! Anyways. If this gem ever for some reason, God forbid, closes. A piece of my childhood, and heart, will be shattered. This place is the best. Truly the best.

Great service and the food is OK at best. Cafeteria style kinda and not the nicest place inside either. The inexpensive menu value is a great selling point to stop by and give this place a try. CASH ONLY so be prepared for that. The service is the best part of this place. Check them out if you are in the area and want to try something different for lunch. I wouldn't go for dinner though. It's not that great.

Farmington steakhouse is really good! Family owned, steaks cooked perfectly, extremely friendly and huge amounts of food at such a reasonable price. We will return! We stopped after checking in with yelp for a good steak house after biking the Cannon Falls trail and were heading back to Minneapolis . This more than hit the spot!

by far FAR the best steak house around. worth the drive from minneapolis. giant steaks. and chicken breasts. choice between soup or salad with every dinner. baklava for dessert. mmmmm Family owned, run and staffed everyday. The prices are low, especially for the large meals.

You do get a lot and if you want to stretch your $$ this is the place. The trade off is the taste with some items. I rated lower do to too salty of a taste to the steak my wife had. I had the pork tenderloin sandwich which was good. The owners are great. The place is not fancy and is located in downtown Farmington. If you rate places well by contrasting quantity and price, this is for you.

Well, I am a vegetarian now, but when I was a child, and lived in Farmington; I was not. But my stepdad was and still is, and when we would go to this place, Pete would load him up with so much food, my stepdad had to put his hand out to stop him. "take more toast!" "No, no, I'm ok, really...the two potatoes are enough". I went here a couple of times, and I loved it each time. I think I can still taste/smell the steak...it is an excellent deal, very affordable, and being that it's family owned is pretty special. Pete always takes care of his customers, and they make you feel pretty awesome when they remember you... And if you love gyros, rib eye, and feeling like you live in the old country, you should really check it...

This unassuming eatery in downtown Farmington was an unexpected delight. When you walk in you get in line and place your order from a menu board on the wall and then pay for your order much like a cafeteria. The menu is somewhat limited with an obvious emphasis on steaks and chops. You then walk down the line and watch as orders are being prepared and take your tray to a table. The tables are mostly bench style so you get a feeling you're at a picnic. The steaks are wonderful as are the potato and side order items .. the Texas Toast servings are simply a culinary feast .. it's like you're eating great big grown-up triple-thick slices of semi-crunchy warm white bread with some melted butter-like stuff squirted on it. The prices are very competitive so you really get a bang-for-the-buck when you eat here. As one of my fellow dining companions asked, 'Hey Feen, how's the steak?'' and I replied with an up-and-down shake of my head nodding as if to say "Yeah, it's pretty good'. Of course, this isn't a fancy buffet such as the foodie dream of the famed Bellagio Resort and Casino in Las Vegas but then again it's about 1/4 the cost so get over it.

  • Rob D.

Petes! What more can be said... Fast, friendly service, and HUGE portions. The prices cannot be beat. If I didn't want to be the next contestant on the Biggest Loser, we could eat here for every meal, and save on our grocery bill. Not to mention Ari's homemade deserts.... Mouth watering.... Im going there tonight.... :)

This family owned cafeteria style steak house is a great place for a change of pace. It's very casual, almost a greasy spoon, but in a good way. One of the most important facts is that it is CHEAP! Big steak, fries, salad and a soda for less than $8! They have specials listed for like $3. They have a different daily specials. They have a sign that says refills are a quarter but they have yet to actually charge me for a one. It's a fun place that is a great change from all the chain restaurants in the south metro. Definitely worth the drive from Apple Valley or Burnsville.

Come on people! A little perspective please! This place is a dive. The steak is cheap, I'll grant you that. But you get what you pay for.

Yep these guys deserve 5 stars from ME!! I cant believe how generous these guys are with the portions!! First time we went there and we were WOWED!!..We had t bones tha covered the plate and had a extra slab of meat with it!! ..Who cares about the decor ..The steak was tender and could have cut it with a butter knife!! They are a nice couple , treat everyone kind and give the most food for the dollar I have ever seen!!!! LOVE IT !!!

Not bad if you like chewing on 1/4" leather with a little A1 sauce. As tough as the meat is, it makes me wonder if it's really beef. I mean, where do all the washed up thoroughbred horses from Canterbury Park really end up? Maybe, just maybe we have our answer in Farmington.

  • Josh O.

The steak can be a little hit or miss, but when it's good it's good. Also, you get two of them, a giant potato slathered in butter, and, if you forsake a salad, two huge slices of texas toast. In addition the family that runs the place is excellent and really get to know their repeat customers. Be sure to tip well, because they're great people and once you get to know them they'll always remember to throw in that extra little something for free.

This is a great place and wonderful for a family like ours! We have 6 kids and spent less then we would at a McDonald's and we all love the food! I usually opt for the Ribs that are so yummy! The owners are wonderful people! So they are inexpensive and a wonderful family atmosphere. Cafateria style steak house and very friendly. I can't really remember if they took credit card (I think they may) and I think they have take-out also.

My favorite place to go when visiting the in-laws. You cannot beat the price for the amount of food they give! I usually am not one for red meat, but their gyros would make any vegetarian go carnivore! Your 5 dollar meal comes with choice of meat, salad, potato, two slices of texas toast, AND a soda =).
