My husband and I found Heartland on Yelp. We were staying with friends in Crosslake and heading back to the Cities on a Sunday morning. We were craving a yummy, homemade breakfast at a non-chain. Wow, did we find the PERFECT spot. We aren't typically fans of buffet food. We were pleased to see that we had a choice of either the buffet or order off the menu for breakfast. I was absolutely planning on ordering off the menu because buffets usually gross me out due to the food sitting around and the fact that it encourages over eating. However, this buffet was unlike any I'd ever seen! The variety of unique items (apple lefse, Mexican egg casserole, made to order omelets, etc) and the fact that the place is small so things don't sit out long made me decide to get buffet. You can tell everything is made lovingly from scratch and the folks who work there take a lot of pride in the food they serve. There are also plenty of bakery items to purchase to take home. We ended up with a loaf of cranberry wild rice and it's one of my all time favorite breads. I wish we lived closer so we could go every week. I told our server (Brenda, I believe, who was fabulous) what an absolute gem Heartland is and she ended up giving us a few extra bakery items on the house. It's clearly a place where people in town go to gather. There's a wonderfully warm energy there, like being in your grandma's kitchen. We need more places like this!

The first time I came to the heartland, I was amazed with the food, service and atmosphere! Everything about the heartland kitchen screams homemade and original. This is hands down the best place to enjoy any meal in northern Minnesota!!

Owner was very rude. Came in with my family for breakfast, we had a big group and wanted to wait for tables to open so we could sit together. She told us we couldnt wait and had to sit seperate. When we said we didnt want to be seperate, she got mad and told us to leave. I have eaten there before, they do have good food. But the owner/manager really needs to learn how to treat potential customers. Not going there again anytime soon!!

After a week of partying and summer fun, we needed a good breakfast to get us back to the Twin Cities. Of course, there are nothing but small towns for a good chunk of time after we left our cabin North Of Crosby. However, this was exactly what we were looking for. We walked into the restaurant full of locals. Obviously we knew this wasn't going to be disappointing. Even with 8 people, the were able to seat us in the back room immediately and give us exceptionally prompt service. Water was waiting for us and coffee came soon after piping hot and amazingly not too cheap (in quality that is). For only $7 I was able to have two eggs my way, a load of hash browns, a biscuit and gravy and toast. Although this was about all I could handle, as delicious as it was, the skillet and Eggs Benedict looked and sounded (according to my companions) amazing as well! On top of fantastic homemade food and exceptional service, they have a small shop within the restaurant. Here they sell house made pies, breads (I sampled the wild rice bread and was not disappointed in the least) and other baked goods as well as aprons and other trinkets. A perfect stop if you are going through Crosby. If I get back up to that area, you best be expecting me!

Wow! Great spot for breakfast. Family friendly, clean and not greasy at all. Baked goods are fantastic, but the smoked kielbasa is the crown jewel on the menu. Help is also friendly and attentive. Best breakfast I've had in years!

We came to eat with the kids, who were instantly excited because they, according to the menu, serve breakfast all day. The kids all asked for pancakes, only to be told that they don't serve pancakes in the afternoon. So, try again with French toast. Nope! They don't serve French toast in the afternoons either. So, breakfast served all day actually means, a couple breakfast items may be served for a couple hours each day, if you're lucky. The food we did manage to get was mediocre at best, the coffee was awful and the service was so-so. The "Fart Extinguishers" are a truly classy touch as well. I mean, hey, who doesn't think that 20 cans of "Fart Extinguishers" next to their table during a meal at a family cafe isn't a great idea and fantastic marketing? Not the worst restaurant experience I've ever had, but certainly nowhere near a good experience either

Best restaurant BLT I can remember, fresh baked pies, fast service and they gave us a pitcher to fill our water bottles. If you are biking Cuyuna this place is pretty good!

Wow. This is definitely worth the stop. As we walk up, there is a smoker on the sidewalk doing its thing. We walk in and there is an entire table of pies, breads and cookies. Once seated, we are told that pulled pork is the special and I inquire about the smoker and am told that is for the kielbasa that is being served with breakfast. Smoked kielbasa??? And the next thing I see is the #5 getting put down at a table next to me and my decision is made. 2 eggs over easy, toast, kielbasa and I ordered a side of their hash browns which were outstanding. The pies looked delicious and based upon the kielbasa and everything else I saw, I'm guessing a majority of the foods are made from scratch. The snicker doodle and red velvet cookies I had were delicious. Pie will be next. A couple of reasons for the minus one star. The A/C in the back room was blowing pretty cold and I saw people at another table switch seats. I also can concur with Ashley. Not sure if the older server is an owner but they were definitely not happy to be there. Thankfully we only had to give her our order and the rest was handled by someone much more pleasant. I also saw a group of 6 get seated and considering how busy the place was, they were quite accommodating. The place is not that large and seats maybe 30 people.

This restaurant has the best home cooking in the area. In addition, they serve fresh bakery that is out of this world.
