This place is now named Pedro's. Marguerita's are fabulous!! Salsa is great! Food was amazing!!! My friend says it is much better than the restaurant in Duluth!! TWe all ordered: the chimichanga mazaltan, the enchilada michoacan, burrito California, lemon-lime chicken...all fabulous!! This is the only place we are going to for Mexican food from now on! Did I mention how good the Marguerita's are? great service as well!!! This is the place to go to!

Their website clearly states that they close at 10pm. I am out of town and completely dependent on websites for current information. Walked in the door at 9:05 only to be told " we close at 9" I even pulled up their website and showed them where they had 10pm posted to which the blonde ditz at the counter replied "we've always closed at 9" like that somehow changed the time posted in front of her face. Bad business if you ask me. I'll be sure to never come back or recommend.

I gave the Lindo in Duluth 3 stars compared to this location. Now called Pedro's, the food here is amazing. The service is way better here than in Duluth. Mary is the best server EVER. Get her if you can. Unfortunately this location isn't close to me... Or else I would go more often!

If you leave this place hungry, there might be something wrong with you. The chips and salsa are alright, but they come out right away, and I assume if you stick around for awhile, they keep coming. The margaritas are large and good, probably from a mix, so there is no fresh lime flavor, but they are not overly sweet , and there is no chemical taste. The food service is fast, and the portions are large. I had mole ranchero chicken. The mole was not the traditional brown sauce, but a variant. It was good, and the chicken simmered in was tender and juicy. The beans were fairly loose for my liking, but the flavor was good. The rice was safe fairly bland. So how does food that is just okay, get this review: the price. Please go here instead of one of the chains. If you're tired of Carmen's, sandwiches or pizza, try Mexico Lindo. It's solid, midwestern style Mexican fare. The service is attentive, but not overwhelming, and they are quick with it.

We've been the Mexico Lindo many times over the past few years....and always enjoyed our meal and the overall experience ! The food is good, the portions large and the wait-staff is generally of Hispanic heritage which of course adds to the experience in a good way. The only thing we're occasionally somewhat disappointed about is that they seem to change the recipe for the salsa now and then. It's always good, but sometimes it's definately better than other times. If you're in or near Cloquet......you should try this place, you'll not be disappointed.

Mexico Lindo in Cloquet offers a huge menu of options and delivers on taste. I've visited twice and would consider this one of the better restaurants between Minneapolis and Mt. Iron, and probably the best Mexican. I wouldn't consider it authentic (you get flour tortillas instead of corn...i like flour better so no loss there for me), but the dishes are more flavorful than the typical americanized Mexican restaurant. I usually pass on the rice and beans at restaurants like this, but Mexico Lindo's are rich and satisfying. I joke that they must have something they add to the food akin to MSG because the flavor is very addictingly tasty. During a lunch visit, I ordered the chicken fajitas and my boyfriend the alambre. These were huge lunch plates, so despite enjoying there was plenty of leftovers. Chips and salsa come with all the meals and is average in taste. The salsa seems to be a little sweet at first and then gets spicier toward the end of the little carafe that comes to the table (maybe use your knife or fork and stir it up before pouring it into your salsa bowl since I'm guessing the peppers just settle to the bottom.) During a dinner visit, I tried the Pollo Santa Fe which was great. The cheese sauce was thin and smooth but plenty cheesy and the vegetables and chicken had grilled flavor. My mom ordered a chicken fajita burrito which was a monster taking up the entire plate, but so tasty she managed to eat the whole thing (no small feat.) My dad ordered the Fiesta Burrito which was on special and was a more moderate size, and probably the least favorite dish on the table (though he still liked it.) My boyfriend ordered Bisteca ala Tampiquena which is a grilled steak that was marinated in some kind of tasty goodness and served with poblano peppers, cheese and a cheese enchilada (plus rice and beans.) Everyone was very satisfied with their meals. Mexico Lindo also serves alcohol, so you can get your fill of margaritas, sangria, or cold beer. The wait staff is very friendly and did an admirable job during the dinner rush, but service was a little slow. I was shocked when we arrived at 8pm to find the place hopping, but they still seated us immediately (plenty of seating.) Overall, a great experience and DEFINITELY worth a visit.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the world. I am sad that I have moved away and have never found any Mexican food as good as here (and I've lived in Arizona and California!). Every time I come home I probably eat there twice a week to get my fix in. I absolutely love their salsa. It's really refreshing and not too spicy. I always make sure to order a side of white cheese to dip the chips in as well. You can also pretty much order whatever you want and as much food as you want. I often eat a ton of chips/salsa/cheese with a small steak quesadilla on the side, but when I'm really hungry, I'll order the Philly Cheesesteak Burrito... absolutely amazing! I noticed a lot of people have been dissing the margaritas... I didn't think they were ever bad! If anything, I like them because they don't usually seem to skimp out on the booze. I will honestly say that service has been lacking the past few times I've been there, but I love it so much I don't even care.

Wow, what happened? This place used to be great. Our meal tonight was less than exciting. The food was Luke warm and just lacked any pizzaz. It was like they were just cranking out the food and no one in the kitchen even cared. Our waiter came back to check on us when we were finished with our meal...too little too late. It's going to be a while before we go back. Sorry guys.

For a mexican restaurant in a small town - this was hands down the best experience I have had. First walking in, the place seems small, but there is way more here than meets the eye. The rooms keep going and going (so it seems). If you come in hungry (and I mean hungry) - you will leave full... and with leftovers. The food is excellent, and if you are one for a margarita - they make huge margaritas! And pretty much any other drink you may be interested in. The service when I was there was excellent, and the staff was very attentive. I've found my spot for Mexican when in the area!

Amazing find!!! We were on our way to Duluth and found this gem on the way. The food was very good, and our service was fantastic! I wish you were closer to me.

Good Mexican food. Tasty guac as well. We ordered take out because we wanted to try the food but had no time to stay. Decent food by my standards.

Actually a 3.5 for sure. Good chips, and great salsa (actually had a little kick to it) Margaritas were a little too sweet and syrupy. The veggie fajitas were excellent and a great portion of veggies. My boyfriend had steak tacos with a mountain of cilantro on them. The beans and rice were good also. Solid Mexican food and the deck has a great view of the lake. They need better tables out on the deck and service seemed disorganized but was timely.

We make sure that we go here every time we are in Cloquet to visit my wife's family. The first time we went in with very low expectations. Who would think that you could find really good Mexican food in the North Woods?!?! We have tried several dishes, and all have been good. Love the Tamale's!

After all the yelping about this place (and rave reviews from the Duluth News-Tribune food blog) we finally found ourselves in downtown Cloquet fairly desperate for a late lunch. We passed on the cheap lunch offerings (and I do mean cheap) because we wanted to sample as many offerings as possible, so we each order a combination. They don't ask you about any choices so we figured we'd get whatever was the filling of choice for that item. It didn't take long to realize that all six of our items (taco, enchilada, chile rejano(sp?), burrito, tamale,, etc.) had the same beef filling. Boring and a little bland. The service was fine (the place was empty at 1:15PM), the place was fine, the food was just okay at best. When my wife and I talked about our lunch experience on the ride home later we both completely agreed that we don't need to return or try the new Fitger's location for Mexico Lindo. We both were looking forward to our visit here, but not one of the six items we sampled were anything to brag about. Two combos and two Pacificos for $24.50? I can think of sooooo many other places I'd rather drop my $25 plus tip.

Cloquet is getting some life back into it! It's kind of exciting to see Cloquet get some new and different food options. Being a St. Paulite who drives through to get to our cabin, we typically went to Gordy's or Sammy's or the like, but a friend told me to check this place out. It was definitely worth the trip! Great chips and salsa to start, the menu actually is obscenely gigantic, basically any combination of Mexican food you could imagine. The food was hot, fast, cheesy, and delicious. Not totally sure what else you'd want out of life. It's definitely on our go-to list. Check it out!!

I'm giving this place one star because its so inconsistent, and there is a problem everytime I have been there. Tonight I got regular Pepsi instead of the diet Pepsi I ordered. I didn't find out about this until the waiter asked if we wanted refills. I don't drink soda often, so it just tasted strong to me, but being a fountain drink it can do that. My clue was when he said"one diet, one regular Pepsi" when I questioned him he suddenly couldn't understand what I was saying. This kind of thing has happened before, but not with the soda. It's been with green or red enchilada sauce most often. No matter how clearly I gave ordered its always my fault. I'm pretty much done with the place. Ps- they didn't offer to take the cost of the wrong beverage off the bill either.

Driving from International Falls to Minneapolis and needed to stop for dinner. Because fast food is tiring, we decided to try a sit-down place instead. Wife and I and a minivan full of kids were seated promptly despite the fact that the restaurant was busy. The waitress was responsive to our needs, service was fast, and the veggie fajitas (for two) were amazing (and amazingly huge). Wish they had some mexican drinks like horchata or tamarindo, but for a small town in the middle of nowhere, this was some pretty darn good mexican food.

Yummy yum yum! It's not the most authentic Mexican ever but this is also northern Minnesota and probably the closest you'll get. Margaritas the size of your head I ordered a medium and I barely made a dent. The classic chimichangas are my favorite I'll always order them very delicious. There's also a Mexico Lindo in Duluth but this ones better.

Our family loves this place. I typically order the Chori Pollo, or a Mulcajete. Chips are good, and I like their sala. This is a family favorite. Main reason we go back is we always request Mary as our server, as she is one of the best waitresses we have ever had.

I've always loved Mexican food and have had good Mexican cuisine in Kansas, Arizona, Texas, Illinois, California and yet, it surprises me that the best I've ever had is in Cloquet, Mn. The Mexico Lindo that opened up in Duluth is also very good but it is not the original that I fell in love with. I will come back to eat here until the day I die!!!!

Forget the Mexico Lindo in Duluth, it's all about the view and the food sucks. The Mexico Lindo in Cloquet? Amazeballs. So friggin' great in an area that severely lacks authentic Mexican food, this is worth the drive. So many delicious choices. If you are craving semi close to authentic Mexican food, this is the place for you. FYI- there are so very few places that serve Mexican, hence my glowing review. Last time I had the seafood verde and I finished the last bite. They have something for everyone.

Absolutely The Best!! My husband & I decided to go here based on how highly rated it was on YELP. And YELP does not lie!! This place looks very basic on the outside, but very cute on the inside. We ordered a pitcher of Blue Moon and got a GIGANTIC pitcher that never seemed to end & it was only $8.25 which I dont think is bad at all for a pitcher. But enough of that, The FOOD! OMG! Top 5 best meals I've ever had in my life! And my husband said the same thing! The menu is GIGANTIC, literally 6 pages of items (not even counting the drink & appetizer pages). I finally decided on the Seafood Alambre (scallps, shrimp & tillapia) and my husband got the Texas Alambre (steak, chicken, shrimp & bacon). Both were just simply to die for! Loaded with meat and tender peppers, and the cheese OMG I dont know what kind of cheese that was but it was just amazing. When I rolled up one of the tortillas filled with that wonderfullness, it literally melted in my mouth! The bite I had of my husbands was amazing too. Basically we just ooed and ahhed over our meal and every bite we took till it was all gone. This is now our MUST GO TO place when we come up towards the Duluth area, which unfortunately is only once or twice a year :( Bill was only $44 which included the beer & my daughters kids meal as well. For that much deliciousness, I felt like I robbed the place! Simply delicious, huge portions & reasonably priced!! It doesn't get better than that!! A+++++++++

As I recap my experience here, two words come to mind: huge and (pleasantly) unexpected. Let me begin by saying that I'm personally not a raving Mexican food fan, and would not have ended up at this location left to my own devices. And I would have sorely missed out on an amazing experience at a wonderful restaurant. From the outside driving past, this place looked like a small family owned, slightly dingy dive place. Local and quiant. I was pleasantly surprised to discover there are 3 spacious rooms - the place is huge! Service was very what us Target folks term "FFF" - fast, fun, and friendly! We were greeted immediately, our water glasses were always filled, our waitress had great recommendations, and food was speedy. I was talked into a peach margarita - in a medium, as it was on special, ($1 off, at 6.95). It was delicious and tasted nothing like alcohol. Just my type of booze. :) Looking through the menu, I was surprised to find 8 pages of menu items from lunch menu items to house specials, a la carte choices and meals based of your protein of choice: pork, fajita, steak, chicken, or seafood!! I asked for a seafood dish recommendation and ended up getting "seafood alambre" which is grilled shrimp, grilled scallops, grilled tilapia fillet, grilled red, yellow, green peppers, onions, mushrooms covered with our special oaxaca cheese. $14.25- a bit steep at first glance, but well worth it when you see your HUGE portion. Definitely sizable to share. Scallops are gnocchi-like and amazing. Andcheese makes everything better! And the burrito was the size of your forearm! My only request for a 6 star review, would have been if our waitress were to have warned us of the portions. Both of us only ate 40% of our meal. Looking for something like this closer to home (for us Twin City-ers)? Teresa's in Golden valley and Mendota Heights are from the same owners!!

After reading a few reviews here on Yelp, my husband and I decided to stop at this out-of-the-way hot spot on our way to Ely. We were happy with our service. The food was okay. We shared the jalapeno poppers, which although homemade, were not as good as we were expecting them to be. The Mochajete was fantastic - a gigantic bowl of meat and veggies, swimming in an oily, spicy broth. My criticisms would be with their pale, tasteless, shredded lettuce and the neon green margarita. DO NOT ORDER A MARGARITA unless you enjoy the chalky, powdered, never-been-introduced-to-a-real-lime sort of margarita.

What is crazy-good Mexican food doing in Cloquet??? My in-laws live in Duluth and we often go to the Black Bear Casino. When they mentioned they had a great Mexican place to try, my hubby and I kind of snickered in our snobby suburban-Chicago way and thought, "Yeah, right" Ummm... yeah, so this stuff is better than anything we can get by our house and I dare say it can give anything on 47th street in Chicago a run as well. We had a party of nine and they handled it with no problem. The food was plentiful and came out hot and delicious. I had the two enchilada (chicken and cheese) and taco (beef) combo. I'll say that the taco was a standard taco but those enchiladas were heavenly! The cheese was thick and salty and just amazing. Oh and hubby and I shared an order of quite possibly the best tamales I've ever had. The masa was so moist and fluffy and the filling was perfect. Judging by all of the completely empty plates I'd say everyone else was a satisfied as I was. If you're in the area, definitely stop by. The menu is ridiculously plentiful and you will certainly find something out would like.

In the Duluth-Superior area, there are essentially four Mexican restaurants; Mexico Lindo (Cloquet), Guadalajara (Superior), Maya (Duluth, by the mall) & Hacienda del Sol (downtown Duluth). Burrito Union doesn't count because all the make are burrito (very tasty burritos, but that's really it). There are also a couple of Tex-Mex places, but we don't talk about them because they..., well..., suck. Of the four, Mexico Lindo is by far the hands down leader in tasty Mexican-style food. Lindo isn't a fancy, upscale restaurant like Manny's in Eau Claire WI, but I wouldn't call it a dive either. It's sort of "in need some sprucing up", but as soon as you start to eat, the appearance of the place will fade so far into the background as to be irrelevant. It gets busy in the evenings, so plan accordingly, but even at 6:30 on a Saturday our wait was only about 10-15 minutes. That's because the food is served with what can only be describe as astounding speed. From order to table you might wait 10 minutes and yet there is no sense of being rushed. The wait staff exhibit all the signs of being intravenously drip fed Red Bull throughout their shift and move like pink-shirted whirlwinds, slinging both smoking hot plates piled with Mexican goodness and icy cold drinks full of tequila with equal skill. The original menu was huge, and its recently revised replacement is enormous! No. Seriously. It borders on overwhelming. I can only assume the only reason this is possible is because there are only so many individual ingredients and each dish just uses different combinations and proportions along with perhaps one or more of the staple sauces to achieve very different, very tasty results. In other words, different dishes actually taste unique despite the amazing variety. Of particular note is anything with the cheese sauce, which you could drizzle on a pile of small rocks and glass shards and still think it was the best thing you've ever eaten despite the broken teeth and lacerations. Also in the "I would marry it if it was legal in this state" category is the new Mochajete dishes. Never mind that they come in nifty carved lava rock bowls that look cool on the table and make everyone who didn't order one stare at you with poorly disguised envy; never mind that there are three variations to suit various meat preferences and make choosing between them even more difficult; never mind they are the most expensive things on the menu ($15-20); they are simply amazing! You can eat them like a fajita or eat them like a stew or even eat them off the end of your shoe (thank you Dr. Seuss). My only complaint was that the lava rock bowl maintains a constant internal temperature slightly below that of the surface of the sun which prevented me from slurping up the last of the sauce and thus I was deprived of about two tablespoonfuls of saucy heaven. Besides the decor, I'd say the only other thing that needs improvement would be the drinks. While tasty, the Margaritas and tequila shots are a little wimpy and could stand to be a little more generous pours of booze. Of course, I'm kinda a freak about tequila, so YMMV. Despite its distance from Duluth (about 20-30 minutes) and the fact that it is almost always packed to the rafters, Mexico Lindo is the best place to get Mexican food in the area. I suggest visiting often and always trying something new (as my girlfriend will attest after our last visit).

I'm torn about how to rate this place. I've been twice, and honestly, I'll probably go back even though it's pretty risky. 1) Food tastes wonderful 2) Hair in food 3) Service ranges from excellent to abysmal 1) Food tastes wonderful: self explanatory 2) Hair in food: also self explanatory 3) Service ranges from excellent to abysmal: a) They were wonderful in dealing with the hair in the food. They made my colleague something new, and did not charge her for the original or new food (she wanted something different) b) I went alone for dinner. They gave me chips with an empty salsa bowl upside down on top of the chips. I didn't really want any, so I didn't complain, but still. The food took kind of a long time, and when it came the guy acted kinda weird, saying that it took a long time because there was a big party on the other side. My food wasn't very warm; I suspect they just forgot to bring it to me and it had been sitting a while... I ate it anyway. They never checked back to see how everything was.

I really wanted to like this place, but our first experience there was not a good one. I ordered a higher quality cut of steak (tampiquenia) and half of it was fat. After ordering our drinks we waited almost 15 minutes until finally we asked the busboy to take our order. Although I heard a lot of nice comments about this place and the food didn't taste bad (aside from the fatty piece of steak) the restaurant was just OK. In addition, they were out of guacamole but the salsa was tasty and had a little kick to it. I might go back and order something else and give it another chance.

Stopped here for dinner following our viewing of the R.W. Lindholm Service Station. The waitress was friendly and answered all our questions about the dishes. I had a dish where I got a bit of everything which was fantastic. Would highly recommend and a definite redo when I am back in the area

Very good for N.E. Minnesota. I have been there numerous times and haven't had a bad meal, very friendly staff albeit busy, but there is usually a soccer game on in the main room which makes it fun. Family friendly!

This is my favorite mexican place in the Northland. Most of the time I am very satisfied. They did mess up a couple of take out orders but all is forgiven after I indulge in some chips and salsa with the cheese dip. Almost 5 stars for good Mexican food. You will not find better in the area - I've tried.

I got to admit I loved the Cloquet, Minnesota location. Our food and drinks were amazing there. When I checked out the new Duluth location I thought it was OK. I feel that they were still getting started and I hope the service is better there now. I would recommend Mexico Lindo and think it does have great food. If anything the Duluth location makes it worth it.... that view is just beautiful! Be sure to check it out if you are going to Duluth.

When I first moved to Duluth, everyone here said that I had to try this place called Mexico Lindo, which is located in downtown Cloquet, Minnesota (about 20 miles south of the Twin Ports). However, I have to admit I had my doubts, serious doubts - a truly great Mexican restaurant in Cloquet, Minnesota? Heck, it doesn't even sound right when you say it. However, this past week, I decided to give it a chance and meet an old friend who was passing through town there for dinner. Upon entering the restaurant, my opinion immediately changed - I was impressed by the smell coming from the kitchen, I was really impressed by the expansive menu (totally 8 pages and hundreds of options) and I was really, really impressed by the fact that they make their own tortillas (which is an essential for me). The food itself was pretty good (even by CA standards) - we shared a plate of nachos which where perfectly messy and I had the steak, shrimp and chicken fajitas - which had great seasoning and the perfect amount of meat to veggie ratio. And as an added bonus, the bill for three super stuffed and satisfied people - $31 and change. Hey, you really cannot beat it ---- unless you're willing to drive to CA or TX. All in all, Mexico Lindo is a place I will definitely be revising as there are about 80 other things that looked really good on the menu.

Might be pretty run-of-the-mill as far as American Mexican restaurants go, but the service is incredible. You'll never go without a basket of chips or a refill of your drink of choice. The food is quite delicious, especially the fajitas, chile rellenos, tortilla soup and Burrito Juanita (minus the odd sauce). And they put ice in your milk! However, as delicious as the fare is, food poisoning, sexual harrassment, and illegal drug use are all connected with the establishment, and if you're female you can expect to receive the second as your reward for making more than two seconds of eye contact with most of the male employees. The staff is always changing, though, so some of these problems might be wiped out with time.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
