Remember that old movie with Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliott? Yeah... This one isn't quite like the Roadhouse in the movie. It has one high point though, it is close to home. It should be my go to place just based on proximity; however, I have only been to Clive's three times. At night, it is a happening place. It is always busy at the dining room or the bar. It's always hard to find parking. However, you probably can find Champlin's finests there of course. I had several things in their menu. I like their wild rice soup and I also enjoyed the Northern Pike Fish Fry that I had twice. Love that they serve tater tots as a substitute of fries. Both of the fish selections were decent. I enjoyed all of my meals. The atmosphere is definitely more appealing at night than during lunch service that was pretty dead. It's busy, loud, and lively at night and I heard at times they also have live music. For a neighborhood bar and restaurant, it is more than decent. I was actually rather surprised to find that it is more fun and nice than what I expected. The service has always been fast and pleasant too. It took me over a year to give them a try. I wish I had tried them sooner. Surprisingly for a small town like Champlin, there are many good places to eat. Though it won't make me eat locally all the time, I am sort of proud of my town.

I finally got to stop in and see what all the locals were talking about. A nice restaurant located on the corner if 169N. On Sundays they have happy hour from 11am to close. I ordered the boneless buffalo wings and cheese curds off the happy hour menu. The cheese curds were overlooks and dry. I was disappointed I looooooove when the cheese is gooey. The boneless buffalo wings were huge! I ordered the traditional buffalo sauce BUT they came out with their bourbon which is pretty much BBQ. I was upset but didn't want to wait for a new batch. The BBQ was pretty good. I would totally order it again. Everyone talked about their chicken fried chicken so you know that's what I ordered. IT WAS THE BEST IVE EVER HAD!!!! The chicken was huge and very moist. It wasn't soggy due to the gravy but crispy & cooked just right. Served on top of garlic Mashed potatoes and vegetables on the side. It was perfect! Tons of flavor. I ordered a cup of creamy chicken wild rice soup. It was so tiny but delicious. And had big veggies and tons of shredded chicken. The strawberry lemonade was BOMB! Free refills with food purchase.

I love Clives! Whenever I'm in the area I make it a point to stop in. I was in late last week and was impressed by how good the quality of food was at 11:30 at night. My favorite is the margherita pizza; 6 bucks on happy hour. I also like the fact that tater tots are available as a side without an upcharge. A dollar for seasoned sour cream is a bit steep though. The service has always been great.

This is a local restaurant. It was nice and had a fun atmosphere. The chicken fried chicken was a nice breast that was juicy! It was delicious! The cheese curds were a little over cooked and we ordered buffalo boneless chicken but got BBQ flavor instead. It was still good though. They forgot to get us small plates for the appetizers but service was fast. I would go back again.

I've eaten here several times, never had a problem with the food or the staff. Great atmosphere and good food. I'd give Clive's a thumbs up.

Great food with timely and pleasant service. Pricing is right on the mark. I just wish they delivered! I definitely recommend this place!

We were looking for something new to try and since it was just two of us we sat at the bar. We waited for fifteen minuets to get waited on then the male bartender got our two beer orders wrong. He then proceeded to argue even after we told him we saw him poor the wrong beers. It just went down hill from there! He got our food order wrong and never checked on us. We had to flag down the bar back for assistance. This places SUCKS we will not be going back!!!

My husband and I went here for happy hour. Cheap drinks, Cheap food. Wings were great, and the celery was crunchy- always a plus. We'll be back again.

The Bourbon shrimp tacos are bomb! This place is always busy! Super fun atmosphere! A little on the loud side, but the food and drink selection are totally worth it. I haven't had a bad meal here. My only complaint is; while the waitstaff is very friendly and on top of their game, the female waitresses all wear skimpy tank tops, all year round. Which seems a little tacky. I have a weird thing about seeing people's armpits near my food. This isnt a complaint that would ever make me NOT go here, just gives it a bit of a tacky Hooter's feel lol.

Can't beat the chicken fried chicken, tough for me to order anything else? However, when I have, it's been excellent as well. This and the Blaine location are both great! One of my favorite local places to eat and drink!

This restaurant replaced the Moon Rock Cafe in Champlin. After sitting empty for over a year, I was glad to have it open and was anxious to try it. It has been open awhile now and I have been there three times. The first time was underwhelming with tater tots served as the side. I like tater tots, but it is not very creative. We went back for lunch again and I had the reuben sandwich special with sweet potato fries. It was a very nice improvement and things were looking up. The service was great both times. The last time we went with company in town was in the evening. The place was hopping, full, and noisy. I was happy to see it being successful. The food and service was good.

Stopped in at 5:30 pm on a weekday night and the place was packed yet was able to snag a table without a wait. It was not our intended destination (Q Fanatic) but we had an acceptable meal here. Service was a bit slow but not terrible. Food was as advertised and the cut of meat they used in my dish was surprisingly nice -- Cowboy Stew and I expected some tough steak -- it wasn't. Would try it again were I in the area and couldn't reach Q Fanatic.

It's really too bad that the owners of this establishment have chosen to turn it over to poor managers. On two separate occasions I have watched the bar service working hard to keep up. One of the bartenders asked the manager for help to keep up and in both cases, believe it or not the manager said "that's what we pay you for honey!" And "you can keep up just pour faster"! My jaw dropped both times! On the positive note, the appetizers are good. The rest of the main menu is just overpriced bar food and extraordinarily average.

Food/Drink: We stopped here for a drink and boy was it worth it. Not sure what the size of beer was, but it was big. Make sure that you like the beer you order otherwise you'll be miserable which isn't good for anyone. They do have a decent selection, but nothing remarkable. Saw a couple food dishes fly by, but didn't see or hear anything sounding el-awesome. Ambiance: I'm not sure what a road house is, but gosh darn't this is the best one I've been to. Big bar with enough tables to shake a stick at, but really the patio is the hook. If you get a chance, get out there, kick back and relax. The clientele was surprisingly lively for this neck of the woods. We left a little earlier then close, but it was still hopping enough at the bar to make sure you had a good time with everyone else. Service: No real issue. Beers were ordered and delivered. Empty equaled next order and she checked if we wanted the same before progressing down a fiasco of failure. We did go through a few waitresses, which could have been either their shift setup or that we were there that long (did I mention those are big beers?). Overall: There's a bunch of other bars you could absolutely fail at. This is not one of them, especially considering the location and ambiance. Choose this over any chain and you'll be a happy camper. Not sure about the food, so take your chances there.

Awesome place all around. Fantastic happy hour specials and a killer patio for when the weather is nice. The food is outstanding as well. Definitely one of the better bar/restaurant establishments I've eaten at over in the Brooklyn Park area. Great place to catch the latest sports game as well. Patrons as well as employees were super friendly and contributed to the fun, laid back atmosphere. Will be back!

Been to Clive's a few times now for dinner & drinks and always pleased with service & good quality food. The style is a more upscale version of classic pub food. Fish tacos were nicely seasoned and had lots of fresh flavor. Servers have always attentive & helpful.

I can always count on walking into Clives and being treated well. The friendly hostesses and attentive waitstaff display excellent serving skills that make you feel comfortable and welcome. Great place to watch a game or just down a few brews. Go there!

While passing though Champlin this past Saturday night my wife and I stopped for dinner at Clive's, and while I would say there are some opportunities for improvement, overall we both enjoyed ourselves. The place was packed and lively, even at 5:30pm when we walked in. Luckily we found a couple nice seats at the bar and settled in. Beers were still on happy hour at that time (until 6), so we each tried a couple varieties. One of each of our beers was on the flat side, but they were still drinkable so we didn't complain. For dinner, I ordered the Cobb salad ($10) and my wife order the Cajun Walleye sandwich with waffle fries ($12). One note about the menu... it is way too big. Large menus are normally reserved for the Applebee's of the world and scream poor quality. Par it down a bit and focus on those dishes you do best. The food was nothing fancy (in accordance with their motto I suppose), but bordering on pretty darn good. I would have liked some avocado on the Cobb, but it still remained very appetizing. My wife's sandwich was very tasty and was definitely the better of the two dishes. Toward the end of our meal the place was really getting crowded, with people standing everywhere within a five foot radius of the bar. People were also getting annoyingly drunk (one group of women was perpetually screaming for everyone to take shots, shots, shots, shots... ahhh, shut the f@$k up!). Not Clive's fault but I would suggest they ask such clientele to keep it down after thirty annoying minutes (especially with children around). Despite the crowd, we had a pretty enjoyable experience.

Great service at dinner tables - bartender service is always hit or miss. Fantastic tator tots and the specials are always delicious!

The food is completely unremarkable. It's like they really don't try and really don't care. The menu looks diverse, but many of the dishes have the same spice (chipotle pepper) in them. There is no "plain" hamburger. The "fries" are waffle fries (frozen). I've had better food at fast food restaurants. The waitress said that the tacos were a popular item. I'm not sure why. You get 3 soft shell tacos, some salsa, and chips for about $12.00. The only thing notable about the tacos was the lack of ingredients. They were nearly devoid of chicken, tomatoes, AND lettuce. You can get better tacos at Taco Bell or Taco John, for about $1.39 each. The restaurant is so noisy that you can't hear the person sitting next to you. All in all... don't make the trip. Very disappointing.

We went to Clive's Roadhouse with some friends on a Friday night at 5:30pm. I initially ordered the slow cooked roast beef, it was so salty I couldn't eat it - I asked my Husband to try it, just to make sure it wasn't just me- he almost spit it out. I flagged down the waitress, told her of the problem, and she said "So, what do you want?" I asked what was fast- she scoffed, looked around and said "right now- nothing" - I guess since they were busy. I asked for a cheeseburger medium rare. She handed me a small plate and had me slide my roast beef sandwich onto it- and off she went. She came back fairly quickly with a cheeseburger on a small plate. My husband gave me a funny look when she delivered it, and said you better cut that before you eat it- I cut it in half and it was RAW- barely brown on either side- cold, raw. We flagged the waitress down - again- and showed her the burger. "ok, so what do you want me to do"? I said pardon me? She said- "what do you want- I just want to get you something you will like and EAT" I told her I didn't want anything else. She said she would send over a manger- and left me with the food. The Manager came by and asked what the trouble was- I showed him the burger and he said "Oh, she should have given you OUR definition of medium rare" and proceeded to explain that most restaurants over cook their meat, and this was done properly- Honestly- Clives is no where near the type of restaurant that should be telling customers that they follow cullinary guidelines for meat cooking standards- nor should the manger have assumed that I didn't know such standards. My husband asked if my burger looked medium rare to him- under "their" standards- he turned up his nose and then said it might be a little rare". So sufice it to say I was not pleased with being scolded by both my waitress AND her Manager. They did comp me one glass of wine off of our bill. $4.50. The other people at the table had average luck with food for an Applebee's type place. Sadly the best tasting item that we were served was their Tator-tots. Which I'm told are a big staple at restaurants who set their own meat cooking standards. . .

Meh is right. It was ok but not any better than other restaurants in the area (and there are some slim pickins in Champlain). They have a nice patio. Unfortunately, it's on the east side so no sun in the afternoon or evening. I split a Cuban with a friend. Their Cuban consisted of ham, pulled pork, and the other usual ingredients on a Cuban. My friend, who has an aversion to bbq sauce, wanted to make sure there was none on it. The server said no. When it came out, it had plenty o' bbq sauce on it...disappointingly so. None of the other items on the menu looked overly appealing. And none of my friends were overly impressed. Our server was nice and did a good job. I'll give her that.

Had the fish tacos which were fabulous. Chicken quesadillas and martini excellent as well. Drunk smokers from the bar invading the tiny space outdoors while we try to enjoy our dinner? Not so great. For that reason I certainly would not eat outdoors again at this place. Truly unfortunate as there are so few nice restaurants that you can eat outdoors.

One of the WORST places to go. Menu is bland, prices are absurd for the amount of food you get. Service SUCKS for a late night bar & grill-you'd think servers would be on top of their game. Manager is never anywhere to be found. Tonight I complained about both the service & the food. Miss thang took half an hour to come take my order when I said give me a few moments-I didn't order anything after my brother's buffalo sandwich was ick. My boyfriend's nachos were beyond grotesque. Despite it tasting blech, I had a few bites & towards the bottom of the plate, we found a 2-3 centimeter long black live ant nibbling away at one of the black olives. Real crowd pleaser their nachos. Absolutely DISGUSTING. The manager comped our meal & gave me a free drink token but you really think that changes the fact that my boyfriend probably ate ant feces? & our chatty Kathy sever was replaced w/ another one, oO that'll make me wanna stay.

Not completely overpriced and the server for our party of 8 had lots of extra help to keep us busy. I had the ribs. They had been sitting out long enough to make me think I was 2 hours late for a cookout. Cool, stale fries and beans that I'm sure would appeal to the very worst salt addict. we got there too late for happy hour but I'm surprised their low H.H. prices didn't fill up the restaurant all by themselves.

The first time I went here, I was amazed. They had just open, were very busy, and my food, my husbands, and my parents was all stellar! Brought my brother-in-law and his family here a couple months later (after raving about it), and was sadly disappointed. My daughter got cold noodles and tasteless sauce. I ordered what I had previously gotten - the cajun salmon - but they forgot the main ingredient - the cajun butter and cajun seasoning! What I got was lukewarm mashed potatoes and plain broiled, tasteless salmon. I asked the waitress what was up with that, and her response was "Oh, sorry - we ran out of of the cajun and cajun butter". WHAT? This is a cajun restaurant. I ordered cajun salmon. If you are out of the main ingredient, WHY wouldn't you let me know? My brother-in-law ordered a NY Strip. He got a triangular flat piece of meat about 1/4 inch thick cooked as well done as you can get it without it being solid as a rock. When he mentioned it to the waitress, she actually said "oh I know, when I saw it go out I was like 'wait, he didn't order the meatloaf?'"...but you let it go out that way and waited 15 minutes to check on our table?! Husband and sister-in-law had the chicken fettucini, and that is the only reason for the two stars. Awesome. Everything else? For the prices, I would drive the additional 10 minutes to Maple Grove for food worth the price.

Had the chicken fried chicken with mash and roasted veg. I requested brown gravy with my chicken instead of the prerequisite country gravy and got strange looks from the waitress. I'm the customer and what I want is king. They gave it to me as I requested and it was pretty damn good. Wifey had the bruschetta chicken sandwich and she was saddened by it.

I'm always glad to see a new place to eat open in Champlin. I don't expect this to become a favorite place to eat but I think it may be OK. We went there for lunch. I had a Cajun walleye sandwich and my wife had chicken fried chicken. My wife loved her lunch. I tasted it and it was pretty good. As for mine, I have to say that people in the Midwest have some strange ideas about food. I didn't taste any Cajun spices at all and it was the first and only fish or Cajun food that I have ever eaten that was covered with melted cheddar cheese. I didn't see much else on the lunch menu that appealed to me but I am not ready to give up on Clive's yet.

Have eaten here a couple times and neither was very good. Had a quesadilla that was basically a folded tortilla with a very, very thin layer of cheese. The one bright spot is the service. The waitresses were very polite and quick.

Atmosphere was odd, somewhere between a Hooters and a Famous Dave's. Restaurant was loud, difficult to have a conversation with the people at our table without raising our voices. The wait staff was friendly and service was very fast - almost too fast? Food was warm, not hot. Wild rice soup was really salty. I had the combo ribs and chicken. Ribs were very tender, but lacked flavor. The chicken was coated with a red sauce. It had a strong ketchup flavor to the base. Definitely didn't have the Barbecue taste I was expecting. Baked beans were also very salty. Coleslaw was actually pretty decent. Not sure how, but they managed to mess up the Texas toast. It tasted like plastic. Maybe we were unlucky. The place is busy so I have to assume other dishes are probably better than what we ordered. In any case, I doubt we will be back. I prefer the food I have received at the Texas Roadhouse in Coon Rapids to Clive's. It wasn't a horrible experience, just one that didn't impress me enough to return.
