Wonderful experience! Real poaches eggs. Crispy not burnt hash browns. Golden brown toasted English muffin. Rich maple bacon. Ketchup offered straight from the refrigerator. Cozy atmosphere. Food arrived fairly quick. I maybe showed up just after the packed house all received their food. There is a diner countertop for folk who don't need an entire table. Soap dispenser in lavatory is a "foaming". Did I mention they keep their ketchup CHILLED. Although... I'm not certain why there is a fully decorated Christmas tree in the corner of the room.
Pretty top notch breakfast joint--in my top 5 in the north metro. The service is efficient and friendly, though a few servers have less personality than I'd prefer. I've been here a few times now and I must say that the food has been well above average each time. Today I had Melissa's Favorite Eggs Benedict, which is an interesting take on the standard; cream cheese, bacon, poached eggs, and hollandaise over English muffins. Great flavor combo. Sweet, salty, and delicious! That and a pot of coffee got my 4th of July started off with a bang. In order to be a regular, you must show up regularly. This is what I plan to do.
I had Melissa's benedict, husband had French toast, the kids had Micky Mouse pancake's and a cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was the hit! Everyone wanted more. The topping was handmade and delicious!

Cafe Donuts

Cafe Donuts is in a small strip mall that's inaccessible and barely visible from 169. We've been here dozens of times and have always had a positive experience. Everyone in the family has their favorite - red velvet for my son, lemon filled for my wife, double chocolate for my daughter and boston cream for me. I grew up on the east coast with dunkin donuts, and these beat DD without a doubt. They're fresh and lack that distinctive DD preservative taste. The staff is friendly, despite a constant stream of customers on Sunday mornings.
Cafe Donuts has relocated to Champlin. This used to be a Dunkin Donuts back in the day but they pulled out of MN. The donuts still taste exactly the same! So good!! The new location is bigger and better!!!
I expected this to be more of a mom & pop donut shop. Instead I walked into a corporate chain layout with enough bright colors to make a Pokemon blush. LED TV's to display the menu? Seriously? The donuts were ok - reminiscent of Mr Donut or Dunkin Donuts. The staff were quick and friendly. They also serve ice cream here. However, I grabbed my donuts and ran for the door before the colors overloaded my optic nerves.

Willy McCoy’s

Reviews:
Great Pub Food. It was a Monday, so all Burgers were 1/2 price, and it was Happy Hour, so all beers were 2 for 1. I got The Juicy McCoy Hamburger, and my son got the Bacon BBQ Deluxe Hamburger. Both burgers were exceptional, cooked exactly as we asked, and there was plenty of French fries. We sat at the bar, and the place was very busy, but not full. It did take what I considered a long time for the bartenders to acknowledge we were there, but once they made contact, the service was great. FYI, the 2 for 1 beer special, literally means they pour you 2 beers, so while your drinking your 1st beer, your 2nd beer is sitting there getting warm. The prices are very reasonable.
My first visit to this new location--okay--an average sports bar. Our lunch visit to this new location (formerly an American Legion) was a mixed bag. The food was okay. I had a burger (Little Lucy) and my daughter had a "secret recipe" sloppy joe (Sloppy McCoy). No big deal...average sports bar food. The fried pickles were good but over cooked and the portions were super small, very stingy compared to other restaurants. The server was friendly and attentive. But she was also clueless. We had multiple SIMPLE questions about the menu and the food, and she didn't know anything and had to run in back several times to ask someone else. Don't these people get any training? The building decor was pretty interesting, a rustic old barn vibe with a lot of rough cut reclaimed wood. As a side note, both front doors had standing ashtrays that were filthy, with cigarette butts and gum wrappers all over the ground. It looks really tacky, like someone is NOT paying attention. At 1:00 in the afternoon, someone should have been sent outside to police trash from the drunks the night before. The coolest thing about this place is the cold war era military tank left over from the American Legion. I guess it would be okay if I lived close by and wanted to stop to hang out, get drunk, and watch a game with the buddies. As for us, we won't be back again. There are too many cool places waiting to be discovered. -Daddy Maxx Retro P.S. I called the American Legion and they said that they're still at this location but they now only use a small portion of the building, the rest is rented to Willy McCoy's.
The juicy Mccoy is a beast of a burger, perfectly seared and cooked medium rare. Could barely finish the burger, but that's probably because of the delicious appetizer I had, the southwest Fiesta chicken dip. Only thing wrong with the dip was that there wasn't enough dip to finish the chips with. Overall, speedy service and you can't argue with 2 for 1 drinks ALL day EVERYday.

I eat here all the time and I love it! Nothing but great service and amazing food! Never had a bad meal!
Quiet for Monday eve- not that it's a problem. Nice and friendly waitperson delivered hot food-this is an underestimated aspect of restaurant food service! New menu with.......higher prices. Observing higher prices at chains- Ruby, Chili, Olive Garden. Garlic/cheese biscuits better left uneaten- I don't care if they are free. Beer called '19' was fresh tasting. I had the 'chef inspired' Jamaican Jerk Shrimp, served with rice and salad bar. Partner had Asiago Peppercorn Sirloin with a baked potato and salad bar. Portion size ok. Nice and salty shrimp but low quality $16 steak- no excuses accepted - don't skimp on the proteins please! Rice and baked potato sides not exactly fresh. Salad bar- excellent. Verdict: Typical ups and downs of chain restuarant. Entrees ok, but trouble brewing when a salad is the highlight of a meal. We had a nice $10 coupon, otherwise these meals and a single beer cost $38-pricey for this quality level. Everyone was friendly. At least Ruby is trying. .
We were in the area and it was either Ruby Tuesday or Chinese Buffet, so we decided to stop in here. I ordered salad bar with veggie trio (grilled zucchini, brown rice and mashed cauliflower), and my bf ordered steak with a side of onion rings and mashed potato. Everything was good for a chain-restaurant standard. I like that they have salad bar option, which I dont think other chain restaurants do.

Clive’s Roadhouse

Reviews:
Remember that old movie with Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliott? Yeah... This one isn't quite like the Roadhouse in the movie. It has one high point though, it is close to home. It should be my go to place just based on proximity; however, I have only been to Clive's three times. At night, it is a happening place. It is always busy at the dining room or the bar. It's always hard to find parking. However, you probably can find Champlin's finests there of course. I had several things in their menu. I like their wild rice soup and I also enjoyed the Northern Pike Fish Fry that I had twice. Love that they serve tater tots as a substitute of fries. Both of the fish selections were decent. I enjoyed all of my meals. The atmosphere is definitely more appealing at night than during lunch service that was pretty dead. It's busy, loud, and lively at night and I heard at times they also have live music. For a neighborhood bar and restaurant, it is more than decent. I was actually rather surprised to find that it is more fun and nice than what I expected. The service has always been fast and pleasant too. It took me over a year to give them a try. I wish I had tried them sooner. Surprisingly for a small town like Champlin, there are many good places to eat. Though it won't make me eat locally all the time, I am sort of proud of my town.
I finally got to stop in and see what all the locals were talking about. A nice restaurant located on the corner if 169N. On Sundays they have happy hour from 11am to close. I ordered the boneless buffalo wings and cheese curds off the happy hour menu. The cheese curds were overlooks and dry. I was disappointed I looooooove when the cheese is gooey. The boneless buffalo wings were huge! I ordered the traditional buffalo sauce BUT they came out with their bourbon which is pretty much BBQ. I was upset but didn't want to wait for a new batch. The BBQ was pretty good. I would totally order it again. Everyone talked about their chicken fried chicken so you know that's what I ordered. IT WAS THE BEST IVE EVER HAD!!!! The chicken was huge and very moist. It wasn't soggy due to the gravy but crispy & cooked just right. Served on top of garlic Mashed potatoes and vegetables on the side. It was perfect! Tons of flavor. I ordered a cup of creamy chicken wild rice soup. It was so tiny but delicious. And had big veggies and tons of shredded chicken. The strawberry lemonade was BOMB! Free refills with food purchase.
I love Clives! Whenever I'm in the area I make it a point to stop in. I was in late last week and was impressed by how good the quality of food was at 11:30 at night. My favorite is the margherita pizza; 6 bucks on happy hour. I also like the fact that tater tots are available as a side without an upcharge. A dollar for seasoned sour cream is a bit steep though. The service has always been great.

Pizza Ranch

Reviews:
This place is getting better every time our family meets here. Clean, fresh and hot food. They will make any kind of pizza you ask for and bring it to your table and serve it to you. We always have a large group, we get the buffet, so it's really nice to not have to go up for another trip to the pizza bar. The staff has always been very nice. Chicken, bacon, ranch pizza and the BLT pizza are our favorites. The soup has kinda been the only "eh" on their menu. Salad bar is decent.
This is a clean Pizza Ranch which can be hard to find. The workers are very friendly. The register was very slow. The pizza isn't good which is an issue for me since it is a pizza place. The one thing that I enjoyed besides the cleanliness was the dessert pizza which was great.
I am loving this place a little less and less since my last review. Not sure if the novelty has simply worn out, or if the food is actually getting lower in quality. The prices have definitely increased, although under $25 for 2 adults is not terrible. (Still we may be trying the $13.99 Godfathers for 2 buffet coupon in the near future). My absolute #1 complaint, however, is much more recent. We had chicken there at the buffet last weekend and it was bloody. Not just a speck of blood or one piece of chicken, but what looked like cut veins in two separate pieces. Needless to say I didn't try a third. I asked my husband if we should tell a staff member but he said not to bother since it is a buffet. Always wonderful employees and a great atmosphere though, so I still give this place 3 stars. I simply hope I never find anymore red chicken on my subsequent visits!

Ming Tree Chow Mein

Reviews:
The Ming Tree is a must for great Chinese food. Everything is prepared to perfection. You have to have an egg roll with their house sauce. It is one of the best things I have ever put in my mouth. Couldn't ask for a friendlier staff either. You are greated as soon as you enter, and are never left unnattended for long, probably because this place is tiny. I wouldn't recommend having your family reunion there. Gotta love the fish tank too.
I can't really complain about the food but I just don't get the right vibe. The dining room is frankly dirty and in disrepair. When I walk in there I think what Chef Gordan Ramsey or Anthony Melchiorri would say... If they don't care about what they show you in the front of house. Just imagine what the back of house looks like. I can't help but envision a VERY MESSY Kitchen.
The servers there are rude and the food is gross. It's not good. The buffet isn't there anymore because of the new management, and the food got of less quality. It used to be good but now it is disgusting.
