A nice locally operated restaurant that lays claim to the best fish sandwich I have ever had. If you are here, make sure to try the Canadian Walleye Sandwich. It's a very large walleye filet served on a wild rice speckled french roll. Phenomenal. The Northwoods Sampler also allows visitors to try a number of local delicacies. If you are aiming for something a little off the beaten path, there is an extensive number of Scandinavian items and locally procured fish, vegetables and rice. We enjoyed the well kept gardens just outside of the screened in dining area overlooking Lake Superior.
If you leave the TC in the morning, you'll start getting hungry for lunch past Duluth. We stumbled on this place on Highway 61. As you walk in you'll notice the huge gift shop right off. They have some serious jewelry there. We wanted the view, so we sat in the enclosed porch. It was a Friday, so they had an all you can eat fish fry. I'm wary of those, so I got the shephards pie. Naturally I sample. These bite size pieces had a breading where you could taste the herbs. The lightest fish I've ever tasted. Even the homemade tarter sauce was mind blowing. The coleslaw was delicious. The soup and entree came with 2 breadsticks. If these aren't homemade, they fooled me. I packed them to go they were so good. As good as the brunch sounds, go on a Friday. You don't want to miss this. The shephards was great, covered with cheese, which isn't standard to the recipe, but still delicious. Make no mistake, Norwegians are up there with the best of Italian, French, and whomever else you think are the best cooks. Come here, and you won't underestimate they're talents in the kitchen. The gift shop is loaded with jellies, jams, etc. All locally made of course. I restrained myself, and got some pure maple syrup. You could easily blow a lot of money here though. If you take a tour of the garden overlooking Lake Superior, you're gonna want one in your backyard. Of all the places I ate on this trip, this was my favorite.
I grew up in the area so I've been there through a few different owners. I will say I like it now the most but that could be because that's what I remember the best. My family and I usually go here for their Sunday brunch. Good usuals and good specialty items in the buffet. I always get the cheesy hash browns, eggs, biscuits and gravy, stuffed mushrooms and salmon. Mmm mmm mmm!!! I've had menu items but it's been while. This is definitely a favorite of my family and we try visit once in a while.

Another trip to the North Shore. Stayed at Cove Point Lodge and ate a couple times here. Great Happy Hour deals on food and appetizers ! Try the smoked fish on naan bread, yum ! I just love the Chicken Philly sandwich and the Cole slaw. Delicious !
Extremely expensive! Look around before you stop in Pizza is awful Service was good, considering the large crowd.
We stopped here on July 4th when we were driving along the North Shore. It wasn't very busy inside. Outside the seats were mostly taken. We placed our orders - which two were the fish and chips (we were told they were cod, which was ok) and boneless buffalo wings. We waited and waited and waited some more. It took over 40 minutes for our food to arrive. When it did, there was no ranch for the wings, no tartar sauce for the fish, and no silverware to be found. I picked up my "fish" which appeared to be a fish-stick. It was ice cold with a pile of nasty grease under it. The wings were barely warm. The fries were actually hot, but limp and greasy. The server seemed to not want to return to our table for anything. I had to go up to the counter to voice my concerns. I have to give them credit for taking the food off of our bill, but it would have been better to keep us informed, let us know what was happening in the kitchen if there was an issue... Guaranteed I will not visit this establishment again.
