This is the stuff dreams are made of. Tons of great bands play here too. Soda Gardocki is playing tonight and it's amazing. Ever in Bayport you have to make the stop. Hopefully music this good will be playing.

Crazy little place. You pay up at the counter and then head back to the kitchen area and get your food buffet style. The ribs were outstanding, the brisket, sausage. pulled pork and sides were all good but it was the ribs that got us! The CD'S lining the walls of the bands that had played there and are on sale is very cool. Great way to show support! I wish we'd have had the time to stick around for the band that night but it'd been a long day of traveling..maybe next time!

Cold beer and blues music All you can eat barbeque Not shabby at all Haven't written too many reviews this year, but I have to write one on this hidden gem. Stumbled across it on Yelp this morning and saw the mostly favorable reviews, but none from any reviewers that I am familiar with. I had no idea the place even existed. It is a half block off of 95 in Bayport if you are going up to Stillwater from Lakeland which is a strip of road I drive quite frequently. Their sign is extremely faded - I am not sure if that is intentional or not. 15 bucks for AYCE BBQ. Pay up at the counter where you can also grab a beer or wine and then walk into the kitchen to the left and scoop up. The ribs were fall off the bone and delicious. The brisket and the sausage were both also fantastic. The sides were great as well - cornbread, baked beans, squash and creamed corn to name a few. This would not be my favorite BBQ of all time, but I think it is my favorite in Minnesota or Wisconsin. I don't think I am aware of any other BBQ buffets around town. I would probably go five if they get more variety in the sauce and beer departments.

They definitely know what they doing. Ribs smoked to perfection with full flavor. The sides were on point. Just go there trust me.

Well on the day the hideous smiling moose sign replaced the old sports club neon sign that was a landmark in Hudson, I had da blues bad. The spice king had invited a bunch of homies to this joint to hear the Swamp Kings and it was just what the Dr. Ordered. Went here once before but they didn't take plastic (and still don't) so was turned away. The band started at 7 just minutes after we arrived and there was a buffet that had been tackled by the crowd but we had a place at impresario Petey's tables and there was still plenty food left. We didn't get the memo to arrive earlier, Lol. Although picked over as we were latecomers, the buffet was down-home southern kitchen awesomeness, from the creamy cole slaw and cheesy potatoes to the brisket and pulled pork and homemade creamed corn and the southern relish of peppers and pickles. A delish bargain at $13 a plate. As for spirits, the selection is limited but they have Devil's Door, an interesting and very palatable white whiskey from Door County, Wis. They also offer beer and wine and a "Moonshine" product I've seen in stores. We tried the black cherry or raspberry variety, a nice sipping juice. Staff is more than willing to give you a sample. Soda in bottles is a plus To expand spiritually I recommended they hook up with 45th Parallel Spirits of New Richmond, since they are neighbors on the same latitude. The joint is tiny but folks got up out of their chairs to dance. A very friendly energized crowd, albeit crowded because the place is small. I wonder if the music expands to the outside because a dance floor/patio would be the icing on the cake. Must go back often.

Great family owned and operated BBQ joint! They mostly serve the buffet on every day of the week- it's $15 and well worth it. The sides of cheesy potatoes and creamed corn are the BEST. The meat is always tender, I'm partial towards the pulled pork. The staff is mostly one family, and are very aware of food allergies or intolerances. As someone who is gluten free, this was a score! Everything except the rolls was gluten free! Alongside the actual food, the atmosphere is so refreshing. It almost feels like you're at a family members BBQ at their cabin. Highly recommend if you're looking for something off the beaten path in the Hudson/Stillwater area.

LOVE AT FIRST BITE!! I have never had food taste this good! Everything they serve is to die for. The even have moonshine by the shot (sample the blackberry it's devine). They have bbq pork, chicken and brisket. The corn and baked beans are amazing. The potatoes were very good as well. Cash or check. No plastic.

I have have been here 3-4 times a year since they opened in 2010. It must be because they have great bbq. I have had the ribs, pulled pork, brisket, shredded chicken, 1/4 chicken as well as many of their side dishes. Desserts and the moonshine, I have not tried yet. Hopefully soon. Everything I have had has been very good, Sometimes the brisket has a bit more fat on it than necessary. That can be rectified easily by trimming it off, Always very tender and delicious. Perfect for eating in a sandwich or alone like a piece of meat loaf. The creamed corn is absolutely wonderful. The Au Gratins, beans, red beans and rice are also very good. But the cream corn stands out. Gotta try it. If I were to host an event and did not want to barbecue the meats, I would definitely figure out what I want and order it a day or 2 before. For a dozen people, my order would look something like this: 2 lbs each, brisket, pork and chicken. 3 lbs each, cream corn, beans, Au Gratins. May as well add some cole slaw too for Memphis style pulled pork sandwiches. They bake their Ciabatta bread fresh daily. Towards the end of the day, I have seen the owner give away any bread they have left over. Order up 8 loaves of bread and that will give you 24 bun style bread. The cost for that would be about $175.00. Seems a little expensive, yea, but this is barbecue and barbecue has never been considered a frugal meal. Live a little. Treat yourself once in a while and enjoy the wonderful smoked meats Bayport BBQ has to offer. If needing to cut costs, you can always make your own sides. Except for the creamed corn. You gotta try it. Unless you have a recipe for a homemade version. I don't. Yet!!! On the way to pick it up, you will need to stop by an ATM or bank. They take cash or checks only. I don't write checks, so cash it is. May as well get a few extra dollars and stop by a liquor store for a case of your favorite brew. They have recently added Nashville Hot Chicken to their menu. I need to try that too. But that is something that needs to be ordered a day ahead. Strange, yes. But you will know it is as fresh as can be. Always be prepared for some blues playing. Either a live event or a video. The owners are deep blues enthusiasts. Blues, BBQ, Beer. What could be better?

Seriously, this is my favorite place to eat. The hot links, brisket, and pork are thee best- esp. those links. Other bests: bread, chipotle, mayo, iced tea, cream corn, au gratin potatos. When I eat here, I shake my head, cuz the food is so good. NUMBER ONE!!

Great BBQ. I loved taking the family here and ordering ala carte. The new Buffet Model has made it a little hard, or impossible ($$) to bring in the family of 5 any more. We have to think ahead and order a la carte take out a day early. We just don't eat enough to justify the buffet cost for the 3 kids. That's really the only missing star in this review. But all that aside... It's still our place for some good dry (no sauce) BBQ!

There lunch buffet is great. The owner is so hospitable and definitely adds the sweetness of southern charm in everything. Definitely try the pecan pie to finish off the dining experience.

The Bayport BBQ is a great place to find some real barbeque, but there are a few quirks. The brisket sandwich with everything is my personal favorite, with their homemade sauce... for the price to size it's not a bad deal either. All the sides are delicious, oh creamed corn mmm... the food is real and good here, none of that famous daves crap bbq etc. The restaurant is run by the owners and very unique, though some of the uniquness isn't quite for the better. First off the hours are a little wonky, closing in the middle of the day or at what seems like random times. Which is probably due to the fact that they do not have many employees nor any waiters/waitress. You must order the food and drinks upfront, cash only. Which poses a problem if you need another beer etc. Also if you show up when there is live music(good deep blues fyi) you will have to pay to get in regardless of if you plan to take out or listen at all. Still, these aren't huge issues most of the time. The place is a great unique small business doing their own thing with good food and good music. Considering the lack of decent BBQ places in the area, Bayport BBQ is right at the top.

Great experience and worth the drive if you are not from the area. Showed up on a Sunday night when they had the buffet. Fifteen dollars for all you can eat ribs, chicken, pulled pork, and sides. My favorite was the chicken, ribs, and creamed corn. We chose to sit outside on the patio, but the inside was comfortable and cabin like. Would definitely go back again.

Ok - perhaps others of you are more accustomed to ordering their food by weight - but that was a new concept to me. So - I will admit to a little bit of angst as I approached the counter. How much meat should I order? How much of the sides should I order? However - the great cashier was able to help the three of us make some wise choices in terms of amounts. We left satisfied, yet not overly stuffed. So - make sure to ask instead of being afraid! Now - on to the food. Wow! We had the chicken, some ribs, and the brisket for our meet choices, and au gratin potatoes, red beans and rice and baked beans as our sides. First bit of chicken, I melted... just like it did in my mouth! So tender, moist and smokey without being crazy. I loved it! But then had the brisket, and loved THAT even more - and then the ribs! Wow - each bite was almost better than the first! Between our group we were torn between the brisket and the ribs for top billing - with the chicken a very close second. Of the sides, the baked beans and au gratin potatoes won, with the red beans and rice good, but not great in our minds. I liked the atmosphere of the place (although we were there at 6 on a weekday, so it was perhaps a bit quieter than other times) - with great blues playing in the background. What a great culinary adventure for us! Enjoy!

A must try.....you will not be disappointed. The smoke meats, beans, slaw, bread, corn, deserts, and music is absolutely wonderful. I just wish I lived next door.

Awesome ribs in Bayport! We just tried Bayport BBQ for the first time, and we're thrilled we did. Everything we ordered was exceptional. They offer smoked, dry ribs (google it if you don't know what that means), the best baked beans I've ever had, homemade bread, and awesome cole slaw. Simple food cooked exceptionally well in a comfortable, relaxed environment. Be warned, they only take cash!

Been here a couple times now. Both times I've had the pulled pork sandwich--which is really good. Two things you know for sure if you eat here: 1) you won't go home hungry--the portions are substantial and 2) everyone will know you've been there because you'll smell of BBQ all day. I'm not sure what contributes to this second point. You notice the smokey aroma as soon as you walk in, but soon forget it. While you can't see it, it is seeping into your hair, clothes and skin as you feast. When you return to the office (or home), you will be sporting some serious "eau de BBQ." Stay away hungry spouses or co-workers as the mouthwatering scent may push them toward thoughts of cannibalism--you'll know the look in their eyes when you see it. Be sure to stay between them and the nearest exit.

Very solid experience with some very delicious bbq in a state that doesn't seem to know what real bbq is. The "crust" of the ribs was devine, especially as I was hesitant to try them as ribs can be so hit and miss in most places. The pork shoulder was so moist and flavorful, that the brisket didn't stand a chance. (On a personal note it made me realize that I like chopped brisket better than sliced) For sides, the creamed corn was a delightful heart attack in a dish, it was outstanding and so not good for you on a regular basis. The au gratin potatoes were outstanding as well. The beans and rice were good but paled by comparison to the other sides. It was a great family owned business that does not have a ton of employees, so be prepared to wait a bit, but the food is so worth the wait. I can't wait to go back again and again

I once heard a friend describe a purportedly spicy dish served in our fine state as 'lutheran hot'. In much the same way, Bayport BBQ is 'lutheran barbecue'. The menu is simple and a ala carte, which I appreciated. I ordered shredded chicken, brisket, creamed corn, and had a PBR. The waterbeer was almost the most flavorful part of my meal. The creamed corn is creamy, but lacks flavor. I was wishing for a tiny bit of cayenne or cracked black pepper, something to counter the sweetness. The chicken was moist but unremarkable. The brisket is the highlight, melt-in-your-mouth tender and a decent hint of smoke. I had hoped the sauce would add a little sumpin sumpin to the meats but it simply overpowered it. A touristy little cafe on highway 95, the space is incongruous with the barbecue theme. A blues band comes on at 8pm almost every night, in a smallish space with brick walls, a tile floor, and a wooden slat ceiling. Acoustic disaster, and exceptionally loud. The volume level goes from zero to eleven in the blink of an eye. I understand the enthusiasm of the locals, as the highway 95 stretch is ripe with bars, diners, and bakeries, making barbecue an appealing alternative. Sadly, the execution doesn't do the concept justice.

Lutheran BBQ? I think not. Lasted though summer and fall - check. I think some reviewers don't know what real BBQ is... If you want real BBQ Bayport BBQ is the place to go. You taste the meat, the rub and the smoke, not some thick sweet sauce. You order ala cart by the pound, just like most of the BBQ places in the BBQ belt, and they have sleeves of crackers Those who complain that the sauce isn't spicy - BBQ isn't about heat, get a clue.

Back in January I made my first visit to Bayport BBQ. I never finished my review, but I made it there again just this past Saturday. So here are my brief notes form last January's visit: Pulled pork sandwich - Moist pulled pork -almost too moist Good roll - ciabatta-esque Slaw was good, very balanced Potato salad was a little over dressed and sweet, potatoes cooked perfectly tho BBQ sauce good. Nice balance of vinegar, with notes of Tobasco Baked beans seemed like they're from a can and doctored with meaty leftovers tho. . Not from scratch. What's interesting is that, as I glance over the notes, I have many of the same observations 8 months later. However on this most recent visit I had the pork spare ribs instead of the pulled pork sandwich. My big takeaways on this most recent visit are these: Creamed Corn - Very good - Homemade - needs a little more basic seasoning (salt and pepper) - Easily remedied at the table, but it shouldn't have to be. Pork spare ribs - SALT BOMBS! I couldn't even finish half of what I had of one serving (4 ribs). Little or no smoke ring, a little bit *too* toothsome, dry rub was way, way, way too salty. I would not order these again. How come no baby back ribs!? I'm still hoping that the owners rectify a few things for this joint. It's small - OK so you can't fix this, but you can use the space better. The decor is still too "Bayport Cookery". I agree with others who say this place needs a bit more funk (and I'm not talking about knick-knacks on the walls). Being a "deep blues joint", I would expect the music to be more pronounced. Each time I've been there, though, I've been barely able to hear any music playing, and only seen videos playing on the displays. If they're having problems with the room acoustics, then that needs to be dealt with. The space doesn't feel band friendly (even tho they manage to find someplace to put them), but it would be cool if they would book some local acoustic blues guitar soloists to play during the dinner hours... That would be pretty cool, and probably wouldn't cost all that much for Friday and Saturday nights. I understand the reason for counter service, but I don't feel like it's done well or is organized with enough thought to the customer's experience. You often find yourself running to the front of the restaurant to get needed items like extra napkins, wet wipes, water, etc. They have a very limited beer selection that makes little to no sense. The one premium beer they have is Zyweic (a polish beer at a BBQ joint?)... No beer on tap. Nothing local (Summit, Surly, etc.). Doesn't feel like a lot of thought was put into the joint and it's likely demographics. The fact that they don't take credit cards in this day and age is a disappointment and hassle. So will I go back? Well, I'm interested in trying the smoked turkey and some of the other meats. The ribs are off my list for now. I'd do the Creamed Corn and Cole Slaw again. I'll probably try to remember to steer clear of the beans and the potato salad.

We are so lucky to have this fabulous restaurant just 2 blocks from our house. As soon as it opened, it became our favorite place to eat! Chris and Kristen (the owners) are amazing people - friendly, accommodating and clearly love what they do. The food is delicious. Several types of typical BBQ meats, along with some unexpected additions, such as smoked turkey, salmon and sausages. Everything is flavorful and cooked to perfection. The sauce is served on the side, so douse the meat in as little or as much as you like! The smoked, pulled chicken is my favorite...but that's only if I HAVE to choose just one thing on the menu! If you are not a fan of creamy, mayonnaisy cole slaws (like me) then you will be happily surprised to find the light and tangy vinegar based version available here. The beans are also amazing....I have never been a big fan of baked beans, but the Bayport BBQ's beans? I crave them! The atmosphere is low key and family friendly. The space feels comfortable...and don't forget to look up! The ceiling is absolutely beautiful! Check out the weekend line up of of live music. The prices are fantastic, incredibly affordable for the quality and quantity of food. Servings are portioned by the pound (or fraction of a lb) and served family style, making it a great place for large or small groups. I cannot say enough good things about this place! Run, don't walk...and order a taste of everything, you won't regret it!

I'd have given 4 stars if I hadn't encountered a dumbass policy and the worst coleslaw I've ever eaten--er-r-r, tasted: We ordered a pound of ribs and a brisket sandwich, two sides of slaw, soft drinks. When I asked if I could have the chipotle mayo on the side (instead of schmeared on the bread [companion doesn't like mayo; I do]) I was told I would have to order and pay for mayo. W T F? To make it worse, she (name? dunno) said, "I don't make the rules." Right, and that is, to me, the ultimate cop-out and "don't blame me, I just work here." I was dumbstruck. THAT said (the fools!) that brisket sandwich was **the best** brisket I have *ever* tasted in my life. Okay, I don't each much brisket but I had some really crappy stuff at Dickey's BBQ in Burnsville several months ago. Anyway, the brisket was faboo and the sauce was just fine. Nice smoke ring on the ribs (four ribs for $9.50). Plenty of food for about $12 each. Plenty of food.

ALL I CAN SAY IS THANK YOU!! I am a native Texan and therefore do not get "real" BBQ here in the north. His pulled pork is spot on to those in Georgia and his ribs are amazing. I visit often and hope he stays around a long long time :)

AWESOME meal, and can I say THANK YOU for having a different and authentic vision for your restaurant. Beautiful, spare, down home, wood decor gave me space to relax and really taste the food. (Too much stuff on the walls makes me want to check if the wait staff is wearing enough "flair".) Really reminded me of BBQ I had in Texas at College Station, raw onion garnish, butcher paper and all. Brisket was delicious and smoky. Actually tried 4 of the meats, and it was so amazing to me that the smoke imparts and brings out the different flavors in each. I actually didn't realize that the coleslaw had a vinegar base until I read other reviews here (should have asked!). I would have for sure tried it then, and I will on my next trip. Texas BBQ is all about the tang against the meat, thus the pickles, onion, vinegar tomato sauce (which was delish, IMO, drink it up, splash it on everything! I think we are too addicted to HFCS in our sauce up north!) PS, please know I like Dave's. This is just a different style, like Vietnamese is to Thai. I love that we can have it all in the TC. The counter guy helped us navigate how much to order, and I was floored at how low the total came in. And yet we ate like kings and tried everything we wanted. (Ha! Now I'm making the list for next time!) Service was FAST and friendly. We had two people checking on us, as they did for all the tables. A couple with a toddler looked like they were enjoying the speedy service too. Home cooked food, reasonably priced with a miminal wait - love it. Some great raw blues going on the video and PA. I can't wait to get there on a weekend night to hear live music, and maybe outdoor seating in the summer?? MMMMmmmmmm ;)

This is a real, authentic, southern BBQ experience! Dine in the surprisingly large space with backyard patio, or take out for catering, a picnic, or just to eat some saucy barbecue in the comfort of your own home! It can be messy, and I know I didn't want to be seen chowing down in public. And chow down you will, because this place has delicious food that makes me wish my own homecooking tasted this good! My mom and I ordered beef brisket, pulled pork, (both wish the signature sauce), cole slaw, and cheesy augratin potatoes. Although the brisket was pretty good, I fell in love with the pulled pork which was super tender and pretty much falls apart in your mouth. I hear the pulled chicken is equally as yummy. The signature sauce has a surprising kick, but the flavor makes it worth the burn. Next time I would pass on the cole slaw (not bad, just nothing too special) but I would double up on those potatoes! These were absolutely fresh cut, skin-on, real cheese augratin potatoes, and they were sinfully delicious! You order your food by weight here, so it is super convenient to cater to large amounts of people!

The best brisket I have had in the twin cities. Excellent sauce (I used lots of it) and bread. Nice atmosphere, somewhat slow service. The au gratin potatos were the best that I have had anywhere. I can't comment on the other bbq meats, as I have not tried them. What the heck is lutheran bbq-some sort of bland Swedish thing? I shall return.

Good BBQ! We had some family over and wanted something quick and easy to feed everyone. We had 7 adults and 6 kids, thought I'd try Bayport BBQ. We got takeout Saturday night and bought ribs, pork, brisket, hot links and half chickens. Everyone thought all the meats were great! The sides we tried were the slaw and beans. I liked the slaw but a couple people said it was just "okay". Everyone really liked the beans. We had plenty of food, with leftovers, for around 100$. They only take cash so hit the ATM before you go! We will definitely be going back.

Very cool vibe. No pretense. And the smoky tasting BBQ is great, especially with lots of the Texas-style (not sweet) BBQ sauce. Creamed corn is great. Plus order some moonshine. And some peach cobbler. This place is a gem in Bayport.

We visited Bayport BBQ as a group lunch outing during the first major snowfall on a 11/19/2011. Our group and another were the only ones in for lunch. Not sure if this is typical for a Saturday or if the meager attendance was due to the snow. I'll blame the latter. My family (myself, wife, and son) ordered 3 separate sandwiches... dark chicken, turkey, and beef. The dark chicken was very moist with just enough salt to taste. Same could be said with the beef. Sadly, the turkey was dry and my son had difficulty finishing his meal. The house BBQ sauce was unique... savory and smokey. It wasn't spicy at all (to my dismay) but it made up in flavor. Sides of cream corn and potatoes were good; akin to finer American style restaurants. The self-serve iced tea and lemonade allowed for custom Arne Palmers. Oh, the pecan pie was delightful. :) Overall, OK. I would certainly come back for a night out and experience one of the live bands as I am definitely in to blues music.

Awesome little restaurant! Good music and BBQ. Everything is smoked fresh with real wood. I love the brisket sandwich, thick slices of brisket in a sandwich that you have to eat with a fork. Delicious!

I ate there tonight and it was fantastic. The bread is dense, with a chewy crust and inviting, yeasty smell. The coleslaw was lightly dressed and refreshing. The ribs were drop dead good. The bark on the outside was chewy, and they were tender on the inside with a nice visible smoke ring. The sauce was perfect. Warm, not too sweet (thankfully) and a bit of a vinegar bite. The pulled pork was very good, too, but the minute my ribs were gone I wanted more. The au gratins were also quite good. They tasted of the fresh potatoes they came from and had an authentic cheese sauce over them. All the food is fresh and homemade and you will be able to detect this immediately. Please, people, eat at this place so we can keep it open. No one has authentic bar-b-que any where near here so this place is badly needed. The only down side is you need cash, but I ate like a pig (seriously, I ate for 2) on $15.00. Yum!!!!
