Average. My wife and I stopped in today. Frankly, we were both disappointed and underwhelmed after reading all the 4 and 5 star Yelp reviews. The food is average. Ever been to a Perkins? That's what you can expect for food at G's Cafe. Back in the day, when I was a kid, I was a cook at a "Happy Chef". Same thing: Perkins, Denny's, Embers, Happy Chef, Country Kitchen... You get the idea. The service was very good and the staff were super friendly. One funny thing happened when I asked our server about the salsa brand that they use, which is fantastic, by the way. She came waltzing out of the kitchen with a huge commercial salsa container marked "Salsa Lisa". She said, "See, YOU can't get it!" In other words, we can't buy it since it's only available commercially. Well, when I got home I checked. Salsa Lisa IS available direct to the consumer in 16 states, including Minnesota at 150 different stores...plus every Minnesota Costco, every Minnesota Kowalski's, and every Minnesota Super Target. Clearly, our server was an idiot. And the Salsa was the best thing about our meal. I'd stop again if I was hungry and walking by. Other than that, I wouldn't make a special trip. -Daddy Maxx Retro

I got something very simple. The G's muffin. Nothing simple about the execution. It's huge, and flavorful in every bite. How they do something on a McDonald's menu, and put it on steroids is beyond me. Can a sausage patty be that addicting? I'm hooked and I'll come all the way from the TC to get it too. It's cool that Sunday is breakfast only. If you are in town, eat here, can't imagine anyplace else. Then there's Han's bakery for the trip home.

Amazing French Toast. And they have cool flavors coffees frequently too. Don't overlook this spot - it's cozy and delicious!

First of all we ended up at G's because Sparky's Cafe was full, with a wait. Having not been to either place yet, G's sounded acceptable. That is exactly what it is, not good, but not bad. I ordered the classic breakfast, eggs, toast, hash browns, and choice of meat. The eggs were cooked properly, over easy, cooked whites, runny yolks, not to browned. The hashbrowns seemed to be the standard for ok breakfast restaurants, ordered from a large food warehouse such as Sysco, and cooked in butter flavored griddle oil, nicely browned though. Sausage, was good, but also the same type every other place has. My fiancé ordered French toast, and a side of corned beef hash (this is suposed to be a Irish restaurant. I didn't try her French toast, but I did end up eating most of the corned beef hash, because she wouldn't eat it. I just can't waste food no matter if it taste more like a bad meat loaf in loose form. Scattered on a plate for $5, not a good value. What made the hash even worse, no fault of G's, she put some ketchup on it. Ketchup is for French fries, nothing else. Over all it was basically Perkins quality breakfast fare, for a dollar or two more. Won't be back I can make better breakfast at home.

I love breakfast, and I was recently traveling for business, and had some time to kill this past weekend. The yelp reviews seemed better than average, and I love trying small local places, rather than going to the better known chains. The Summary: Dirty, overpriced, diner food. The floor was gross, the walls and ledges dusty, and an omelette with American Cheese for $10. Service was great, my waitress was super attentive, and the food came quickly. However, having an open kitchen you must look at while waiting to pay your bill gives great insight to food quality and safety. I witnessed a great many things in that brief window that makes me think I'd be better off eating somewhere else.

Right in downtown Anoka. Small restaurant with little seating. Service took a long time for her to come to check on us, but could have been due to the busy time. I got the B's Omelet and it was delicious - the hashbrowns were crunchy and toast. They did refill my coffee a couple times so I did love that! My friend got the pancakes - which were big and she had the side of hashbrowns and bacon. Said it was good but the bacon was really salty - but good. Your local hometown feeling with hometown food - worth the visit but expect country cooking and not upscale dining

First time at this cozy, family run cafe in downtown Anoka. My wife and I stopped in for Sunday morning breakfast. It's a little cramped but the friendly, small town vibe makes up for it. The service was friendly and attentive as my coffee cup never went totally empty. The food is scratch-made and very tasty. The prices are more than reasonable. For under $20, including tip, we left happy and full. Their biscuits and gravy were the highlight for me but all of the food was really done right. Worth checking out!

Little small town breakfast place in the heart of Anoka. I do have to agree with Maxx's review on food being comparable to say Perkins but I may go a little higher than average but nothing to write home about. I do give this 4 stars since the food arrived fresh and hot. The service staff was also very friendly. The last time I visited I got an omelet which was good along with some sausage links which we also tasty again arriving hot which some places seem to struggle with but not G's. If you are hungry for breakfast food and want something decent, G's Cafe is worth a go. I have been here a couple of times now and will certainly revisit.

We loved our breakfast and the coffee and the people. The owner (Tom) is great to talk to. Elisha offers fantastic service. The Irish spirit is wonderful. Definitely eat at this restaurant. The two people who gave one-star ratings are not people who normally rate businesses on Yelp and their scores should be ignored. The only Yelp review they have given is for this restaurant (They may be connected to a competitor) A lot of the regulars are Democrats, but they welcomed us a Reagan Republicans and treated us with respect.

If you're in the northern metro and are looking for some great hangover-cure food, you have to go to G's Café in downtown Anoka!!! I'll be the first to admit that I'm very picky restaurant eater. Two of the biggest restaurant turn offs for me is if a place has an off-putting smell or if they're less than cleanly. They sound basic, but you'd be surprised the types of dive bars my husband enjoys that I throurougly do not (sorry babe)! Enough of my rant. I bring these things up because they're the reminder not to judge a book by its cover. From the outside of the café, I expected to loath this place, and even though I wasn't looking for a hangover-cure this weekend when I ate at G's, it cured me of my stereotyping of experiences (the smell was fine too ... good even!). Their breakfast is home-made comfort deliciousness!!!

We have been here one other time and they were out of what my son wanted, however when we went back earlier this time, he got to try the egg salad and was thrilled. I had the fish and chips. My other son had the blt. 2 of us had clam chowder that was some of the best I have had. The atmosphere is quaint and the service is friendly. The gourmet coffee was so so. Weak. This is a mom and pop diner and for what it is, it is perfect.

I really like this place. Back when I didn't work a 9-5 type job once a month when the french flea opens Thursday morning my mom and I would go followed by going to G's. They have great food and I always suggest getting what is on special. I usually always get eggs benedict. I've had the Salmon patty which was very good and I'm not usually a fan of fish. I would describe the food as Irish Diner type food. All I wish is that they had more hours! I can never get there unless I have a day off at my job now :(.

Based on the reviews, I was expecting a bit more. It was a pretty average breakfast.

There are breakfast places, and then there are breakfast places. Some are great, and, though you wouldn't think it possible to screw up something as wonderful as breakfast, some are, yes, awful. I'm happy to say that G's Cafe is one of the great ones. Whenever I have out-of-town guests, they all clamor for breakfast at G's. I'm mad for their omelets, Susan requires the French toast and bacon, my sister can't live without the eggs and kielbasa, and Anne says "Drag me out of here quick before I order another Belgian waffle I don't have room for!" The waitresses are kindly and pleasant, and keep a close eye on those coffee cups and water glasses (and how often do you see THAT anymore?). It's a smallish place, but even when there's a wait (noon-1pm, as those in the know rush over from the nearby courthouse for lunch) it's never all that long, and it's always worth it. Mornings are not my favorite time of day, so if I have to face one, I thank heaven for G's making it actually something pleasant.

This is one of my favorite restaurants. They are open for Breakfast and Lunch, the prices are just a bit more than some, but everything is home made and it taste that way too! They have a wounderful specials like biscuits and gravy and more that are sure to please. The restaurant is very small, but they pack a great atmosphere in a small space. If you stop in Anoka Do Not Miss this place for a great breakfast or lunch, you will be glad you did!! It is one of my favorites and I know it will be yours too, if you give it a try!

A great local place for breakfast in quaint downtown Anoka. The wait staff is very pleasant, quick and attentive. The food is standard breakfast fare, but consistently good. Can be crowded on Sunday mornings with the after-church crowd, but the wait is never more than 5 minutes. With the frequent diner card, you get 1 free breakfast after you buy 10. They're also open for lunch, but we've never been there for anything other than breakfast.
