My wife and I went to Sail Away Cafe last night. There was live music and it was a beautiful night. We went inside to the hostess to be seated outside on the patio, and a waitress greeted us and said she would be right out. A few minutes later she came out and introduced herself, but said she wouldn't be our waitress. 5 minutes go by and a for lack of a better description because she didn't introduce herself, a rainbow haired woman comes out to take our orders. We order drinks and say we need a minute for food. 15 minutes goes by without even seeing her come back outside. The other servers are all helping their tables and keep looking over but none stop by. The servers look focused on their tables so we didn't want to bother them. Another couple sits down at a still dirty table next to us. After 10 minutes of waiting they get up and leave for having not even been acknowledged. As they get up a table behind us mutters, "Good Call" We weren't in a hurry and it was such a nice night, so we kept waiting. At 30 minutes and still no drinks. Finally the waitress surfaces and goes to check on another table. Goes back inside and is gone for some time. To summarize, she helps 2 more tables run cards, and buses a table all without even looking over at us. At 35minutes she had helped table around us and we gave up. My wife forgot her phone as we started to leave, our waitress who handed it to my wife and said have a good night. Did she completely forget she had taken orders from us!? This was the worst dining experience I've had. The other reviews are spot on, a year has past, and still terrible service!

Looks like a cool place with decent menu but could not enjoy my beer on the outdoor patio with "open mic night" in my face on a lovely summer evening. Yes, it was a Monday night but save the ham and egger talent for cold winter nights.

Travelers' reviews published on tripadvisor.com This small restaurant has a nice blend of casual food and some fancy dishes. I had a really nice sandwich, and my wife had a fancy chicken saltimbocca entry. Both of us left full and happy. The staff was friendly and the price was reasonable. We'll be back for a casual dinner again. Waiter was very good, as was food and pricing. The atmosphere, for us, was one that led to friendly bantering and conversations with our fellow dinners. They have live music 2-3 days a week, but not the night we were there. We will stop in again! My wife and I had Sunday breakfast at Sail Away because several of our friends highly recommended this restaurant. We were able to sit outside because the weather was cooperative. The food was exceptional. I pride myself in being a pancake connoisseur and I must say their buckwheat pancakes are the best I have ever tasted. Usually, buckwheat cakes are dry, but theirs were very moist My wife and I stopped in here when staying at the afton house in for our anniversary. We love Afton and found this little jem of a restaurant to be a perfect stop. It's family owned and the food was GREAT. they had live music outside which was very romantic. (See tripadvisor.com/Restaura… ) Bravo! Sail Away Cafe is rated "excellent" by 5+ travelers on Trip Adviser (on Sail away website, a little box from Trip Adviser) Sail Away invites us also to enjoy music every Friday and Saturday evening, 6:30pm to 9pm. "Join us on the lower deck or the patio for talented local musicians and fabulous food with no cover charge." I'm bringing my grandchildren on Afton's Trick-or-Treat Trail Saturday. October 29, 2012, 10am-1pm, including Sail Away Cafe, which is inviting us, "Meet The Witches of Afton plus photo opportunities & pie samples." I once took a dozen OLLI members there for the first time, and they loved it and planned to return. (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the U of MN) The head chef is the owner. My husband & I frequent Afton on the weekends during the summer months. We've been meaning to eat at Sail Away for over a year & finally went Saturday for an early dinner. Sail Away looks fairly small from the outside, so I was surprised when I went inside to check it out how large it actually is! Although the inside was adorable, it was too nice of a day not to be outside. We grabbed a table in the shade & looked over the menu. I ordered the walleye sandwich & Ryan ordered the Buffalo Bleu Cheese pizza. With each of the sandwiches/burgers, you get a choice of soup, salad or kettle chips. I ordered the salad with mango pineapple vinaigrette. My salad was good & the dressing was really delicious. The sandwich was also good. It had 3 strips of walleye and was the perfect amount of food. I tried a piece of Ryan's pizza and was happy that it wasn't extremely spicy as I'd imagined it'd be. The pizza was huge & while there was room for leftovers, Ryan finished every last piece. Prices are reasonable & the atmosphere is unmatched. It's the perfect summer restaurant!

I love Sail Away Cafe! It is so good, light, healthy, and refreshing. They always have good, unique specials. I recommend the burgers with guacamole or the omelets, or salads, ok i'll keep it short and say everything! They also have espresso drinks. Also, a wonderful assortment of home made desserts. Sitting out side in the summer is ideal, and on weekend nights they have live music.

We've been here a few Friday nights this winter, and love the food, service, menu, live music and ambiance. The homemade soups are delicious and they have a great kids menu. It is a very relaxing way to spend an evening and we have always felt right at home here.

Food is delicious... Service is terrible. I ordered the mango crab cake salad. Sever put the order in wrong and the salad came without crab cakes. Everyone else had eaten by the time my food came. Bill was brought without the drinks on it... We thought they were making up for the lousy service. However, they brought the credit card receipt with the drinks on it... So the bill didn't match the charge. Again, food delicious... Service terrible.

Decent. Service was not very good, atmosphere could be a little more quaint and less jimmy buffet. Food was pretty good, but the staff seemed disorganized and not attentive. We might or might not go back; there are other cafes.

YUM YUM YUM YUM! I can't say that enough! What a little gem! On my vacation in Minnesota I was taken on a boat trip down the river on my friend's boat. He stopped in on Afton to see an old teacher and to grab some dinner. Luckily the place he wanted to eat at closed 10 years ago because we go to come here. The decorations are super cute. The outdoor seating is covered by sails! Love it. The service was also super friendly and helpful. Our waitress helped us pick out our dishes and man was she right on the money. I got a pasta dish with vodka sauce, chicken, and tomatoes. YUMMM! It had a creamy richness to it but also a little kick. It was so good. I could have had thirds and fourths of that. The outdoor seating was just perfect on warm summer night and I loved the overall feel of this place. I really want to come back the next time I go boating on the river.

After coercing our teenagers into abandoning their screens for awhile for a hike at Afton State Park, we made a slow roll through the town of Afton and decided to give the Sail Away Cafe a try for an early dinner. After some additional grumbling, we settled in at a shady table under the vine-covered pergola (it was a beautiful afternoon.) Everyone found something on the menu that sounded appealing. We were not disappointed! My wife had a black bean veggie burger with an oh-so-wonderful guacamole and bleu cheese topping. I think it was a special, but she certainly recommends it if is available. I had the Herb Chicken sandwich on Ciabatta . The lemon mayonnaise made it distinct and quite tasty. My son had a BLT which he enjoyed and my daughter got the "house fries" with her burger. We all had to sample the fries... they were pan-fried (the cafe doesn't own a deep fryer) and we all vowed to order them next time. The best was saved for last, however. The desserts were incredible. My son (and the rest of us) loved his peach cheesecake; the peaches were incorporated into the cheesecake itself, not just plopped on top. But the best was their specialty: Gooey Butter Cake! That was exceptional. It looked a bit like a biscuit with whipped cream on top, but it certainly did not taste like that. The crust was melt-in-your-mouth delicious all by itself, and the interior was creamy and wonderful. My wife and I split it, as we typically do with high-calorie desserts, but each vowed to order our own next time. By the end of our meal our conversation had turned to figuring out the best excuse for returning sometime soon.

Had lunch with 3 girlfriends last weekend. I had the BLT, 2 of the girls had burgers, and the other girl had the lime and cilantro chicken sandwich. The service was AWESOME. Granted it was the middle of winter but the owner was super nice to us. The BLT was awesome, crispy bacon, lots of lettuce and tomato too. The meal was a great value, it came with a hearty side too. I can't wait to visit again when it's warmer!

When you drive up it looks like a solid place with a great patio. It reminds me of a place you would find in a beach town. But then reality hits. We were really disappointed with this place. Called in an order for pick-up (pizza and salads) they said it would be ready in 15 minutes. We got there about 20 minutes after we called in order to give them a buffer and when we got there it turns out that hadn't even put in our pizzas. So we had to wait 20 minutes while no one offered us anything. The service was poor, servers had their drink cups out and were not attentive. I know this because I sat in the bar watching since there was nothing else to do. When we got home our pizza was pretty decent but definitely not worth the $50 we paid. The salads were blah, I know it's a salad but definitely nothing worth going back for.

Relaxed, comfortable cafe located in the relaxed, comfortable little village of Afton. Sail Away serves up good, unpretentious food at a price that isn't gonna make you check your bank statement afterward. I personally had the Ahi Tuna Bruschetta appetizer which I gobbled down like a greedy little monster. The beer menu is also good albeit somewhat on the light side. The bar is also not the most comfortable spot in the restaurant. It certainly doesn't compare with outdoor patio - which is lovely. But hey, these are minor quibbles. Sail Away largely knocks it out of the park.

I've been coming here for a few years. The food is consistently good, and the staff is always friendly. The only downfall is the service is always pretty slow at breakfast. It's not unusual to wait 30 minutes for your food to arrive. I still recommend the place.
