Based on the review of others I went here and I tried the pepperoni roll. It did not disappointment. This is not some hollowed out half empty roll. It's packed from end to end. Spicy, cheesy, delicious. Of course it's a little greasy. That's what happens when you bake real pepperoni. Best pepperoni roll I've ever had. Also, I appreciate a small business owner back there hustling and busting his tail. Nice guy, working hard, treating his customers like gold. The kind of business everyone should support.

Ordered our favorite pizza toppings yesterday (9/1/15) on two pizza's at a cost of $27.00. The pies dripped of grease and we're not at all enjoyable. A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY. used to buy from them years ago, don't know what happened but it was REALLY BAD! Wouldn't recommend this pizzeria to anyone. Will not waste my time and money again.

By far top 3 pizza restaurants in ALL of downriver. The pizza's are awesome and the pizza rolls are even better! Tired it for the first time about a month ago and won't order from anywhere else. If you can't decide what to do for dinner or lunch, I can't recommend this place enough. I'm just thankful they deliver to Riverview. Lol.

Found this little gem via Yelp while visiting the area. Very friendly staff and very good pizza. Good choice if your hungry for a good pizza!

Been going to Sportsman's since 1996, and still the best pizza I've ever had. I've probably had over 2000 lunch specials. Legendary.

I've been frequenting Sportman's for 10+ years. Not only is their pizza is fantastic, but they have a HUGE selection of toppings to choose from. If you're looking for great pizza, order it up! You won't be disappointed.

I live a city over and have driven past this place for years but never tried it. I figured it was just another pizza place as there's tons of them in Downriver. Everyone claims to have the best or they act like they "reinvented the wheel" when it comes to pizza, subs, etc. which are seemingly basic dishes. So one day I was bored and wanted to do internet research for a new place (and hopefully a good place) to order from.. I was amazed that #1 Sportsman's Pizza even had a website unlike most area "mom and pop" places, plus a nicely laid out one at that #2. I could believe how big the menu was with tons of variety! I'm a huge salad fan and they have tons of those alone. I'm trying to cut out meat so I ordered a veggie sub, a veggie pizza roll, and the Champion Salad. They surprised me again because with all of that AND delievery it was only like $22. Most place are $26-30 to have them bring it over based on what I usually get. I'm a big eater but I had to have other members of the family help me with the veggie pizza roll when they got home. For sure I will get them again.

Might as well book your chest pain visit to the ER now. There's enough grease to drown a horse. I will NOT order from here ever again because the grease is all I could taste. Yuck!!

I'm giving Sportsmans Pizza 2-stars only because I received a totally burnt pizza crust. (See pic) it ruined the pizza because of the burnt taste. Otherwise, the breadsticks were very good and the pizza sauce for dipping was also very good. They also delivered politely and on time. Maybe I'll try the rolls. They seem to have rave reviews.

Probably the best pan pizza and cheese bread I've had since I moved to Detroit. Picked up a large square pie with bacon, pineapple, and pepperoni plus a small cheese bread. The crust is fantastic. Not the overly greased in the pan type. Now, there was grease, but it was from the generous portion of pepperoni and huge honking chunks of real slice bacon (and made it delicious). I rate it fantastic. My lovely girlfriend still likes the greasy crust pan better, but she still dug it. The order was made promptly and the staff was polite. Give them a chance. And I still haven't tried the fabled pepperoni rolls yet... Next time.

Friendly service, and good food. Have been here twice now and both times it was very good pizza. Love the crust and they don't skimp on the toppings either. They know how to run a business! Making you feel welcome and appreciated.

Not very impressed, I definitely expected more after reading all these "perfect" reviews. If you want better pizza keep driving down fort street until you see BC pizza on the left side of the road.

Chorizo pizza!! Need I say more?!?! The smell coming from the box was so irresistible, I couldn't even wait until I got home. If you live near Wyandotte, consider yourself lucky!

I heard this was the BEST Pizza in the area so I called from California and ordered a Large Pizza and Famous Pepperoni Rolls form my good friend. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Jeff. He Loved it. Was on time. Hot. And delicious Thank for FANTASTIC service. The guy who took the order was polite. Professional and an asset to this restaurant.

Great pizza. Their cheese (sharper than what's user on most pizzas) is great! If I could get sportsman's cheese on JJs crust and sauce, we'd have the perfect pizza. A must for cheese lovers.

The last two times I have ordered here (specifically ordered pepperoni and sausage pizza & cheese bread) it hasn't been good. I can't pinpoint what the issue is (I even asked if they changed something they said no) either the dough or the cheese changed? I'm really not sure what the issue is but sadly I won't return to find out. Rip Sportsmans, your now dead to me.

One of the best pizzas downriver. Walked in once to pick up and the guy who seemed to be the owner was the nicest guy ever. Also, amazing ranch for dipping breadsticks and pizza!

So....I couldn't resist; I went back and got a specialty roll (chicken cordon blue) and it was as good as it gets (see star rating above). The dough was so soft but again, really thin. The chicken was fresh and had no fat whatsoever. The ham was thinly sliced and the cheese was deliciously creamy. The only thing I didn't like was this side of garlic butter to drizzle on top of my roll. It was sweet and weird tasting for a butter sauce. BUT the roll was sooooo good, no sauce was needed. And something else that is fantastic there?? The girls at the counter. They are oh so nice and prompt with service. This place gets an added star since my second experience was even more delightful than the last. Plus, my nerdy side totally loves the cheesy muscle head dude on their website. He cracks me up for no apparent reason whatsoever. Bottom line: check the site, cruise the menu, pick a roll, and GO HERE!

The Best Pizza in the area, always friendly and when we had a mistake one time they made it right! You can't go wrong with Sportman's Pizzeria, if you don't like there pizza I would say you don't like any pizza!

  • David W.

I can honestly say I've not had pizza that gets much better then this. And then of course the pizza rolls which are greasy yet delicious. Recommedations: The Double Play which is quoting the menu "thin crust, double hand cut pepperoni and double cheese topped with a sprinkle of garlic and grated parmesan cheese" The thin crust is perfect, slightly crunchy/burnt on the bottom but so heavy with cheese and pepperoni you've got to eat it almost like a new yorker would. Also get the chorizo, it just makes pizza better. Seriously good stuff. Their double decker spicy chicken pizza will make you sweat it's so spicy. Also ask for the hand cut pepperoni it's much better then the regular pepperoni. And don't forget it's take out or delivery only.

Sandra B couldn't have said it any better. I live in Chicago now, but I was home for the holidays recently and I couldn't wait to stop here and get a pepperoni roll. They are just too darn good. They have a lunch special with them as well... I believe currently for 5 dollars you get a roll and a 20 ounce soda. The rolls are ready to go, so there's no wait. Their Cheese bread is also very tasty. I'd been getting that for years and years before they ever had their lunch special (the special goes all the way back to when they were blocks from the high school)

I am a huge fan of Sportsman'sPies, Rolls and anything else that has Dough, Cheese (REAL CHEESE), Meat or anything else that is prepared at this fine local business that's been in the biz for a long time! Have you ever wondered why you see sooo many pizza shops open up and close up just as fast and if ther lucky they will last 3 years? Well this is not one of those shops! When those cheapos open, everyone and their brother has their own little shop that they claim have the best pizza for the buck? And claims their spot has the Best quality pizza for their buck? Well folks I do admit I change it up from time to time depending on the day, the specials and or conveyance and most of the time I am usually disappointed because I ordered Happys or PC etc. Another good Pie that I grew up on was "Mickeys Pizza" who also have quality pizza at a good price without sacrificing the quality. Both establishments take pride in their business and the The owners who do not have to be present can be focus working, sweating and roughing out the hot days in the summer to feed all of Downriver and it's boundaries! Please keep up the good work boys and I don't mind paying for the best! The only CON- Sportsman's needs to Budge a little on the ole dippers? The ranch is amazing (homemade) and marinara is a must so I usually or 2-1 and the containers are ridiculously small and your only given (1) sauce with an full order? considering the amount of breadsticks you ordered and the fact that they are mouth watering give a little and I guarantee this could be a deal sealer if they are undecided between the competitor? When I order multiple cheese sticks/bread sticks one would assume multiple people are going to eat off so it's an awkward feeling when you the first person dumping your share? So I'll usually order an extra 5 and if memory serves me right it's $1 a piece?? Please consider! ;-) I mean that's what the reviews are for right? Good ideas and rating the food! Do you feel that's a fair request? Sportsman's will always get 5 stars! That is if they continue with what their doing!

Love their salads! Crisp and fresh ingredients. I usually go for the Taco Salad...one of my lunchtime favorites. Their prices are great and the staff is super friendly. Top notch takeout!

Our organization meets monthly in Southgate. We try to provide something to eat for the group but unfortunately our organization does not have a credit or debit card. This presented a challenge as we needed food delivered and that would take a check. Sportman's Pizzeria was willing to do both. We ordered two 24-piece pizza party trays. We have ordered something similar from Jets in the past but we always fell short on serving everyone. When the delivery guy showed up with two enormous, rectangular boxes, they put the pizza tray we used to order from Jets to shame. The deep dish pizza was 6 large, square pieces by 4 large, squares in size, and we had two of them to eat. Most of my guys could barely finish two squares. Beyond size, the quality of the pizza was top notch. Sportman's doesn't skimp either. The pie is loaded with gooey mozzarella and a generous amount of toppings. There was about 10 pieces leftover that went right into my freezer. Not sure why I did that because they were all gone by the end of the next day.

So I had to head downriver for business and was checkin Yelp, per usual, for some lunch time pizza slices and found this joint. Parking was full on the street so I illegally parked in the deserted medical building next door, waving off the foreboding "tow yo ass" signs considering I would be 5 min tops. The owner (I assume) had the most beautiful daughter sitting on the counter and offered me 2 for 3 bucks when I inquired if he had some slices up. I grabbed a Mt Dew and the total was $5, so I think there might've been a disconnect but who the F gives a flying turd, this stuff was the ULTIMATE greasewheel. The slices were MASSIVE and the roni goo cups were overflowing with heart stopping love. I was dumb enough to try to chow this mess on the way back North and, I am sure, I ruined a shirt, my coat, and a pair of khakis with grease slingin all over my truck. I saved the 2nd slice for home and a jump in the toaster oven and it was AWESOME. I am really lookin forward to trying a pizza roll, the cheese bread and a square party tray due to reading the reviews....or at the very least a lg one item on special for $7.99. Did the guy pour the "God talk" on pretty heavy?? Yeah, I guess he did....and I am a Catholic too so needless to say, it was strong enough to be a little awkward....what really made it creepy was the intense eye contact ALONG with the "Praise Him" banter that was over the top. BUT....Who the hell am I though? It's HIS damn store, he can do what he wants....a hell of a lot better than spewing hatred, ya know?? Plus, he seemed earnest, he didn't ask me for money, and he is a family man....much better than most priests of my church! So, needless to say....looking forward to the next time I have to go downriver so I can try some more menu items and quite possibly get blessed again!

By far the best pizza Downriver. The owner introduced himself and welcomed me to the neighborhood. We had the margarita and the California special. Both amazing. No place to dine in - take out or delivery only.

I've been going here since I was a kid. Even when they where located downtown. I am in the army and whenever I come to town to visit this is the first place I stop. The pizza rolls are always a great choice and my first choice when I'm home. They still have the lunch special as well. Can't beat it!!!

I normally give this place a 5 star rating! However, on rare occasions their food is a bit inconsistent.. Overall, their sweet pizza sauce and fresh ingredients will always make me wanting more.. Pepperonis are very greasy but just order them light

I found this pizza shop by browsing on yelp .. It had great reviews , so I figured I'd give it a try , I'll start off by saying the delivery wait was over a hour and a half , but bc of the great reviews I figured it must be worth waiting for , I ordered a spicy chicken pizza roll , and chili cheese fries , the pizza roll was delicious , a must try I will defiantly order that again , as for the chili cheese fries they were disgusting, the chili seemed old and the cheese was shredded cheese not actual melted cheese I took one bite and threw the rest out ... Over all I rate them 79% fries and delivery time need to be looked over !

I'm ashamed that I live near Sportmans and even worked next door in the past and never tried their pizza until now. I wish I could go back in time and replace all the times i ate hungry howies, dominos, and little caesars with Sportsmans Pizzas! It was one of the best Pizza I have tasted. I have to say it should actually be called "gourmet pizza" because it is! The name Sportmans always made me think it was going to be the typical pizza place but I was completely wrong. The Veggie Deluxe was loaded with toppings you only find in the pricier gourmet pizza places. How many local pizza places carry Zucchinis, Squash, Spinach, Feta, & Garlic Cloves? I also judge how fresh their vegetables are and it passed the test! The mushrooms weren't from a can. They looked freshly sliced. The dough was crispy and chewy. A combination that is hard to find. My pizza was wasn't too greasy and oily. Just enough grease from the cheese to have great flavor but not so much that it makes you feel like crap after you eat it. Employees are very friendly and service was great. Prices are reasonable since it's high quality pizza and you get a lot for the price. It's now my new favorite pizza place in the neighborhood and I will be trying their other specialty pizzas such as New York White Pizza, Breakfast Pizza, Steak Quesadilla Pizza... They all sound amazing! *Carry Out Only

What more can I say about Sportsman's? Hot pizza, fresh toppings, and the owner is the best. I usually order delivery, but when I do go in to get pizzas (about once a year) the owner is there and he remembers me and asks after my grandfather. That is the kind of customer service that takes a place like Sportsman's, which already has a great product, to the next level. I recommend the BBQ chicken pizza, or Polish ham and black olives.

    (5)
  • Jessica S.

Good chicken wings and bbq sauce. Standard cheesy bread with good marinara. The pizza roll is good and the crust is thin but was not really crispy. We got the steak quesadilla pizza. We did not know it was a double crust for one because it does not say that anywhere on the website and it should. I would not have ordered it. Also the bottom crust was soggy and we definitely did not like that. No excuse for wet crust.

  • Jess D.

Pizza rolls are to die for. The service is top notch. What more could you ask for? The owners are legit appreciative of your business and they take care making their food. I drive 20 minutes just to come here and its never more than a fifteen minute wait from placing an order to getting your food. A great place.

  • S F.

I have to admit that I'm not crazy about their pizza even though they're a takeout pizza joint. Why do I rate them 4/5? I LOVE their Mexican pizza...it has a different crust from the normal doughy thicker crust than their regular pizzas. I also LOVE their pizza rolls. The dough on their pizza rolls seem to be thinner and crisper than their pizzas, but they are extremely good. The owners are friendly and people that work there are nice. Will continute to order from them when the mood strikes for these 2 items.

A Wyandotte staple ever since they were located next to the old movie theater. They have excellent pizza, salads and sandwiches! I highly recommend Sportsmans

I was going to carry out from Supino this evening, but I could not wait an hour before heading home from Downtown. Instead, I finally tried Sportsmans. I have driven by this place for years, and have meant to try it after reading Sandra B's review. Carry out only, it looks like any other Downriver storefront pizza joint. They recently were named one of the top 25 Pizzas in Metro area by the Free Press and I wanted to see what the fuss was about. I stopped in and asked the kid working there what he recommended, and I ordered a basic large cheese and pepperoni and a more loaded large pizza using a discount coupon he handed me. 20 bucks. 20 minutes later, I came back and the owner was just taking the pies out of the oven. They looked and smelled wonderful. I paid with my credit card, and I mentioned that the slip had no place for a tip, and the kid said "just come back soon, thats the best tip" The owner was standing right there, and smiled. I get them home, and dug in. Wow... the round deep dish cust was perfectly done. The sauce was spicy and abundant. The fresh veggies were FRESH and abundant. The cheese was in perfect proportion to the rest of the pie. Without a doubt, its the best pie Downriver. A great value also. I will try the pizza rolls next time and write an update. Amazing.

  • Jordan B.

Amazing. Thats the best way to describe this place. I no longer live in Michigan but every time I go back home I find myself ordering Sportmans. They have wonderful pizza but the real reason I go there is for the pepperoni roll. I have traveled all over the country and I have never seen any pizza type item come close to this pepperoni roll. Its a stromboli / pizza roll combination that drips of grease and deliciousness. It is stuffed full of any toppings you want but I think the original with sauce, pepperoni, and cheese is the best. I highly suggest that everyone tries this place at least once. You won't be disappointed.

Tried them on 3/9/13, for the first time. Best subs downriver! My coworkers roll with chicken looked great. Will without a doubt be going back to try their pizza and other subs.

  • Katie Y.

We've been going here for here and it never disappoints. Sportsman's pizzas are always made fresh, never frozen like other establishments. Only fresh veggies and meat are used on all pizzas, sandwiches, and salads. The salads are all delicious, they are always made fresh to order and they actually use differnt greens and not the standard head lettuce. Lunch special is a must! A pepperoni roll and pop for only $5.00! You can't beat it! Owner is always very friendly and remembers all of his customers. Love coming here!

This place, is one of the BEST pizza places downriver. It is always worth the money, and I've NEVER been disappointed. My personal favorite is their Sportsman Supreme Pizza. An extra large cost about $17 which is completely worth every penny

Kind of sad when all the reviews are so high and you call to find out where your pizza is and then they tell you where do you live and ask all the questions and then they dont know how to call the driver to see the status of the delivery.... This is then 9-30-2012 when we ordered the pizza they said it would be about 35-45 well we called after an hour... Ask them the status and they didnt even know where my street was, I asked the manager if they should of called us back? did not have an answer for that, then he told me that they where busy, and I asked about customer service.. Then I asked him about calling the driver, he advised me that they did not have the phone number to the driver. I told him to cancel the pizza funny thing is Pizza never made it to my house so I am sure he called the driver....

Thanks to everyone who reviewed Sportsman's before me. I never would have found this place otherwise. I ordered takeout from here last week and it was just as good as the reviews had me expecting. Great, polite service and really good, fresh pizza. The best I've had Downriver for sure.

  • Sandra B.

So the pizza is really good, but that is not why you go to Sportsman's. For those of us who grew up in Wyandotte - we know what it's all about, but for the rest of you - two words - PIZZA ROLL! It is the greasiest, tastiest thing you will ever have, and the best part is that you can get it for under $5! They have been around for as long as I can remember, but they have only been at their location of Fort St. for about 10 years now. Before that, they were in Downtown Wyandotte behind the theater. All I have to say is (as I am drooling) they have really good pizza rolls! Just eat is and don't worry about your diet until tomorrow.

  • S B.

Not only is this the best pizza, the wings are out of this world!!! They take about an hour to cook, but are worth the wait. The best I've ever had. They offer sauce, but I always get them plain as they have great flavor all on their own.

  • Mark H.

I am a VERY PICKY eater, but EVERYTHING I have had at Sportman's has been incredible!! My fiance one day ordered some of their specialty rolls (That I would of never ordered), but they were incredible too. Pizza=Awesome, Pepperoni Rolls=Awesome, Lasagna=Awesome, and yes even Salads=Awesome. If you haven't been, boy are you missing out!!!!!

  • Amy W.

Read so many great reviews so we had to try... WOW I have a new love. The Upper Deck (Chicago Style) was amazing & cheese bread out of this world. Can't wait to try more of what they offer. If it's half as good then I may have to buy my clothes a size bigger :)

  • Jeff M.

I've been living away from home (Wyandotte) for the past 8 years and whenever I come home I am sure to stop in for a pepperoni roll lunch special. Their pizza is even better and is the only pizza place up for discussion when we talk about ordering it. It's incredibly good and have never found anything like it from coast to coast.. and I currently live in NYC! Do yourself a favor and make this your go-to pizza place

    (5)
  • Glen G.

One of the better pizza places in the area. Fresh ingredients, real cheese, homemade dough. Pepperoni rolls are THE BEST. They do get real busy and have to wait a while. But it is worth it. Service and speed has vastly improved in the last year.

    (4)
  • Karen S.

So, after living in Wyandotte for seven years, we finally found edible pie. Too bad my husband was accosted by the counterperson (and a friend!) with religious nonsense. Look, you can believe whatever you like, but I'm hungry. I want pizza. If I want Jesus, I know where to find him. Unacceptable for a business. We won't be going back.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
