Great little place. The French dip is to die for ... I crave it regularly!

I eat lunch here at least once a week. The waitress with the short blond hair is the BEST! She is so nice and prompt. I tend to stick to the lunch menu as the prices tend to be on the high side. Ambience is good. If you don't get the short blond server then the service becomes "just ok".

Great food, great service, great prices. That pretty much sums up the place. I usually go here for lunch with my girlfriend where we find the soups to taste like they are home made, amazing burgers, and the servers that are out of this world. If you get a chance to eat here for lunch try out the Cheswick sandwich, its amazing.

This place is a cozy and dark. They have good food and good beer. What more do you need. I went with family, the food was really good. We had burgers and fries, both were very good. If you are looking for a nice cozy place with beer and tvs and good food, I would reccomend this.

This was our favorite fancy restaurant Downriver. The back snug is cozy and painted with a Breugel-like mural on the walls and there are dark panelled Tudor-style booths to sink into. The food is good and imaginative and the owner always makes the rounds to see how everyone is doing. The dinner starts with good bread with flavored oils for dipping. The mussels and the Caesar salad and the soups are excellent. And though this restaurant isn't on the island, this is where we would go to celebrate major events.

I have to add this to my previous review because I dont know why I keep going back to this place in all honesty. OK , I have to yelp about the last 2 times I have been here. I ordered a take out salad back in Sept. it was a waldorf salad. when i got home and opened the box, the salad was all brown in spots and soggy and the dressing was on the side so i know it was not because of the dressing, it was because the salad was ot fresh it was simply just old. they gave me some wet soggy buns to go with it. I didnt even eat it I just tossed the whole thing. A few weeks later some freinds were up there so I decided to join them againsnt my better judgement. I ordered the cheesewick. I ordered this item because I thought it would be a safe choice because its just veggies in a pita with melted cheese. Well I was wrong. My veggies had this distinct flavor of hamburger. I asked a freind at the table who was not eating to taste test it and he confirmed it tasted like hamburger. ironically my girlfreind sitting next to me ordered a ham burger. I am not sure how but there was some obvious cross contamination going on with our food. I really wanna love this place because it a cozy little joint, but my experinces here have been so bad that i dont think i ever will be able to change my mind. its truly a hit and miss place. they care and then they dont.

I love the look of this place inside and out. The food is great and I highly suggest the Grilled Chicken Salad. The pretzel rolls they bring out before the food are great. The addition of the outdoor seating is a wonderful improvement to the downtown area. The only issue is the wait time for service. If you have a big party, getting your food can be slow.

I recently visited RP's on a friends endorsement. I can honestly say the service we received was awful the waitress barked the specials at us like a drill instructor. There were four of us at the table on a weekday night so the place was not overly crowded we ordered the scallops which were the special appetizer for that night. They came to the table cold and only contained four scallops the size of nickels for $14!!! They were over cooked and tasted old. I have never heard anything about this place good or bad but there are many options in the area that offer better food and service for the same price. The waitress can make all the difference in a dining experience but this women had no place serving the public she was aloof and more interested in hanging with her friends then she was serving tables. Our dinners arrived and were average bar type food with Gordon's food service ingredients at a premium price.. If you want a drink it may be ok it but would not be in my top 10 in the Wyandotte area

My wife and I had a great dining experience at RP's last night. From the red wine and steak bite appetizer, to the asparagus shrimp bisque, to the humongous frog legs, this was a really delicious meal. Frog legs came with zucchini-stewed tomato (hot) and some good wild rice. My wife got a chicken salad that fed us both for lunch today, as well as her last night. Avocado, egg, tomatoes, croutons, veggies, and an awesome creamy Caesar dressing. We ordered a piece of the chocolate cake (incredible) and lemon berry cake. Both were excellent. Great service, great bar tending.

We went to R P McMurphy's based on a family member telling us she heard good things. The atmosphere is nice, definitely a clean bar/restaurant. We were seated immediately and the waitress took our drink order right away. My seafood alfredo was average, nothing to write home about. My wife ordered a spicy pasta dish. At least it was supposed to be a spicy pasta dish. It arrived on our table very cold. It was almost as if it was microwaved, but not warmed up enough. My wife honestly never sends food back, but in this instance the food was just not edible. It also had ZERO spice and was completely bland. The waitress offered to have the meal fixed. She took the dish back and had the cook heat it up and add some spices to it. With the kitchen being open, we could overhear the cook being less than enthusiastic about fixing the meal. When the waitress brought her food back, (I was already done eating mine) it was warmed up, but still completely bland. We like food very spicy, and I realize that spicy can mean different things to different people, but this was bland by any standard. My wife did not eat her food, and chose not to order anything else at that point.(I was done, and the chefs attitude kinda scared her off...) The one nice thing is that they didn't charge us for my wife's meal. The waitress did her best to make things right. If I could have given it 1.5 stars I would have based on that. The place is overpriced for what it is. We will not be going back.

Jacob and I decided to try this old-school bar after a friend told us we'd like the French onion soup. (Side note: is it weird that most of my reviews talk about French onion soup?!) We went on Friday, 3-26 around 5:30 pm. There were plenty of open booths, so we picked one and were handed menus by a friendly waitress. She also brought us some rolls to munch on while we decided what to order. I decided on a screwdriver and Jake got a rum and Coke. Our drinks were good, so that was a good first sign. Jacob ordered the chicken diablo, which was a spicy chicken dish. I ordered the fettuccine chicken. We both ordered the French onion soup, of course. The soup was awesome. The cheese on top was flavorful and the broth itself was bold and delicious. I wish they'd use better bread in the soup because the soft pumpernickel bread didn't do it for me. I prefer croutons or day-old bread pieces with more flavor. Minor issue, though. Our waitress brought our entrees soon after. The first thing both Jacob and I noticed was the chicken. It was flavorless. It seemed as though they use the same chicken across the board, so it's not seasoned for individual dishes. It was just sauteed in butter, which didn't taste like anything at all. It wasn't grilled or fried either, so its consistency was pretty boring for me. Jacob thought the same thing. The cream sauce in my dish was heavy and didn't pack much taste. I was hoping for some hints of garlic or cheese or Italian... but no. It just tasted like boring chicken in boring heavy cream sauce with boring fettuccine pasta. The cheese melted on top was really good, but it wasn't enough to save the dish. Jacob's chicken diablo wasn't much better. He complained it didn't have any taste or flavor besides "spicy." He said the pasta was well-cooked and it looked nice, but it didn't taste as good as it looked. The tomatoes and green onions didn't add much to the dish, so he was disappointed. Our waitress was super-friendly and eager to serve us but she couldn't make up for the lackluster dishes we were served. The drinks we both had were great, so we might go back for drinks but not for dinner.

One word: Patio -- My passed experience was that RP's was overrated. The prices seemed high for food that I felt was just ok. I went with a group this passed weekend and sat on the new patio. The outdoor option is fantastic. It was wonderful to sit outside on a cool summer night and just enjoy the evening over some food and drinks with good friends. I still think the prices are a little more than I'd like to spend there, the the new patio has changed my attitude towards going there. Nice going RP's

Finally experienced this place last night. Great atmosphere and super-tasty food. It was a slow night, so we chatted with the staff and owner, and had a great time. Not a huge variety on tap, but solid choices. You should munch on the fried pickles and the french dip. Good stuff!

The atmosphere is nice and the food is good. My boyfriend and I both ordered sandwiches and a nachos appetizer. All 3 were delicious! My only complaint is that the service was very slow, even though there was barely anyone else eating there at the time.

Great menu. The place is cozy but it is a little dark for my taste. Ive been here many times and I have to say I don't dislike anything yet. My favorite is the blue cheese crusted steak mmm mm mm

So, in the past, I've not only heard good things about this place, but have also had great experiences here. The group thought it would be a good idea to stop for a refreshment and lunch before heading home from the street fair. Okay, I get it was a busy day and I understand they were trying to push people out...but that wasn't our issue. Our issue lies in the food itself. I remember R.P. McMurphys serving damn near homemade, quality food. Their priced as though they still would but they absolutely do NOT. I got the French dip...it tasted good aside from being served on a bun that wasn't hearty enough to sustain the au jus dippins'. But that wasn't my gripe. My gripe was that I asked for no mushrooms. I can't stand mushrooms...especially from a can. Because when it's all cooked together it has that weird mushroom taste. So, because of that, I asked for "no mushrooms". The waitress confirmed "no mushrooms". And I replied "none". I get my meal, mushrooms all ova da place! I don't like to complain, so I frowned and started my ritualistic pre-nosh mushroom pickin' until my family member yells to the waitress that it has mushrooms. She was super nice and apologetic and had them "remake" it promptly...I get it back. It looks somewhat out of sorts and jumbled up and I think "really, cookman, I could have just picked them out myself." It wasn't a big deal, I think the waitress was more upset than I was. So I get my plate back...and there are still mushrooms...everywhere. I was a little bummed at that situation as my sammich kinda had that faint canned mushroom smell and I couldn't help but wonder how else the kitchen is saving time. Also, what if I had a mushroom allergy? My moms' garlic mashed "potatoes" tasted like they came form a box and were doused with garlic powder. The bacon wrapped shrimp and side salads were good. At the end of the day they get 3 stars from me because of the dark and cozy décor and the hard-working and friendly waitstaff...they lost one for the shitty quality of food and because they tried to poison me with mushrooms.

Very Pub Like atmosphere. The back room is non-smoking and cozy. The waitstaff is very attentive, the food is delicious - we're partial to the burgers and the potato skins are SUPERB!!! A mid-priced to high pub, but great for a bite before heading out to a ballgame! We decided to re-visit this spot, however, something was definitely off.....especially the potato skins.... I was very disappointed.....

Today, I have had the best French dip and the best French onion soup in my entire lifetime. Husband enjoyed a properly poured guinness with a shamrock in the foam. Drove 45 minutes each way just to have it. The service was impeccable, the food outstanding and the portions colossal. To those who tried something they didn't like, I would encourage them to give it another try & find something else on the menu. Spicy is hard to find anywhere, spicy hot with flavor, is nearly impossible at a restaurant and certainly not at a pub. Totally important to remember that it is a pub. And a damn good one.

  • Tim K.

First of all, this is a pub not a fancy restaurant. They do have a back sitting area that is away from the bar but is very old looking and outdated. With that said for a pub\bar they have really good foor and decent drink prices. I have had the Sweet and sour shrimp, cheese burger, onion rings, and a few soups. The food has all been good. Prices are a little on the higher end for a bar but so is the quality of the food. Not huge portions but enough to be a full meal. The staff is always nice and quick. Atmosphere can be a happy hour crowd if you go at the right time and sit near the bar. Overall... good place, good food, drinks and a good location to start your night when in Wyandotte.

Went back here last night with my family visiting from out of town. Everything was great and they seemed to really improve their food. My family loved the Fresh Lake Perch, they can't get lake perch in Florida so I was happy. Service was great and I love the quaintness of the place and I'm now officially a fan!

Yum, Yum, & Yum!!!! I love R.P's! They have very good steaks and seafood. The Service is always great! Bardenders are friendly as well as the wait staff. It's a great place to go for lunch or dinner. The french dip sandwich is terrific! The building is very historical and the dark atmosphere is very cozy. R.P's is great anytime of the year! You wouldn't be disappointed!

We've been dining here for more than two years now. Service is attentive and we've always enjoyed the food. Even better now that it's smoke-free, we can sit up front. Usually, we have the seafood fromage as an appetizer or the escargo. The entree portions are big enough that we split one entree between the two of us. Wines by the glass are fair. Prices are great. It's only a long drive for us (Southfield), otherwise we would go more often.

I have not been out much in Detroit's downriver area but had heard nice things about downtown Wyandotte, Bishop Park, Biddle Avenue, etc. So the night came to finally meet my boyfriend's parents and we decided on R P McMurphy's. Rumor has it that this place has a friendly ghost. It's a very old building with charming booths and a great old-timey bar, stained glass, photos, and paintings. If there is a ghost, it must be a culinarily friendly one because the Salmon Picatta I had was absolutely delicious. Paired with my blended white wine it was a truly wonderful dish I highly recommend. My bf's dad had a blackened steak which he enjoyed very much and his mom opted for some homemade guacamole and chips, both of which were exceptionally good. The beau had the crusted whitefish special which was very good, but had a little bit too much of an itialian seasoning flavor for a good Whitefish dish. I sampled his veggies which were a little too firm for my liking, yet very much acceptible. All in all it was a nice choice for a meeting the parents location, and certainly a good place to go for a nice dinner downriver. I recommend not craming 4 large people in a booth though, they are quite cozy. (We fit just fine, but I'm a pretty small guy.) Oh, and we didn't spot the ghost, but the story adds to the old-fashioned atmosphere here. It's legend is a nice touch.

R.P.'s can do no wrong! Typically, we'll order the escargot, the coconut shrimp, and maybe the almond encrusted whitefish... sometimes we'd just order an entire selection of appetizers for dinner... their food is terrific! Prices are not very high. I favor their cozy, pewabic pottery tiled backroom. This is a nice place for a romantic dinner - or if you're like me, a great place to pig out and enjoy the fruits of life!

Heard good things about this place, the setting was nice, the waitress was very pleasant, took our order right away, I had a burger and fries, my wife had a french dip with fries. My burger was very bland tasting, tasted like there was no seasoning what so ever, my fries tasted like shoe string fries you buy in a grocery store, with no salt on them. My wife said her french dip tasted like garlic, not sure if it was the bread, the beef or the juice, but she said it was over powering, and she also disliked the fries. Very dissapointed

I stopped in here a few weeks ago for an after dinner drink, and I was quite pleased with the atmosphere and ambiance of this cute and quaint pub. R.P.'s is in a 1890's Historic building, and the pub has been around for over 24 years. The setting reflects that of a turn of the century saloon. They are known for their Clam Chowder and have different specials every day. I liked how it was quiet and had a non smoking section. We ordered a couple of rounds of Golden Margaritas and they were quite good, the Grand Marnier makes all the difference...The drinks were a little pricey, but I wasn't paying, so it was all good! B.T.W. my "date" never called back after that night, so I just wanted to say thanks for the dinner and drinks, even though you were lame, I still had a good time!

This is my favorite bar in the downriver area. Staff is attentive, food is fresh and really good. I often order the specials for lunch. The shrimp asparagus bisque is fantastic.

We stopped in to RP McMurphy's for some lunch. We have been here a few times before and have always had a positive experience. The prices are not exactly cheap, so we don't visit frequently, maybe once or twice every three months. Our lunch this time around was great also. Since it was lunch time we were seated at a table in the bar area. The place was fairly quiet, at first. There was someone sitting at the bar who gradually became louder and louder. He was obviously pretty drunk and was using some profanity. He seemed to be a regular, so nobody really asked him to refrain himself. We found it a bit humorous, but it may have been an issue if small children were around. Both my fiancee and myself agree the decor in this place is very cool. You get a kind of classy old school vibe from it without it seeming outdated. Each table has a small stained glass lamp at the end. The place kind of reminds me of the TV show Cheers. The table had plenty of room, that could easily mange to seat four people comfortably. The only thing I didn't like was the floor. It was slippery. I had sneakers on and I felt like the floor was greasy. It looked clean so I'm not sure if it was from grease or maybe just some soap residue from cleaning. The food is quite good. It is not typical bar food. You can get a burger or sandwich, but you can also find things such as Ahi Tuna, Calamari, Escargot and Filet Mignon. They also have a daily special menu. I ordered the Reuben with an order of onion rings while my fiancee had an order of mussels with a side of vegetables. The prices were a bit more than you would pay at a lot of places, but I think the portion size kind of made up for that. The rueben had plenty of corned beef which was served on big pieces of rye bread. The order of onion rings was large too. My fiancee was especially pleased with the size of her mussel platter. We both took food home. My sandwich was delicious. The onion rings however were not so good. They were beer battered, which was great. The problem was they were a very deep brown color and were saturated in oil. I know onion rings are fried, but these things were super greasy. I think the oil in the fryer probably needed to be changed. My fiancee loved her mussels and the vegetables she had looked very fresh. The service was pretty good too. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The only issue we had was when we left she boxed up our food for us and brought it over in a brown paper to go bag. When we went to leave I saw the bottom of the bag was completely wet and leaking. It was the mussels. She apologized and re-boxed it. Unfortunately she must not have wrapped it up properly again because once we got outside, same problem. Pros: -Classy looking place with a decent relaxed atmosphere -Wide range of food options -Fresh, delicious tasting food -Good portion sizes Cons: -Not cheap, can be a bit expensive , especially for a lunch. -Not really a family oriented place (drunk guy at the bar) -Some food can be hit or miss ( onion rings from above)

This is starting to be the goto spot for taking visiting friends and family out in the area. The food is always consistent, the staff very friendly and inviting, and restaurant clean. They have a nice menu that is not over crowded and a good selection of craft beers. You get what you pay for here and I've always been satisfied with my meal and experiance.
