I went back to the Riverhouse last weekend after being away for a while. I have to say that the new menu seems really good. After some mental wrangling I decided to go with the lobster pasta ($12) with the clam chowder add-on ($3). It was really really tasty! It was essentially a lobster mac and cheese with huge chunks of lobster meat and a whole claw on top of the pasta! I am a big guy but after you toss in the fresh bread, I couldn't finish the plate! Thankfully it warmed up nicely the next day. Add in a pint of craft beer for $5 and I was out of there for $20 + tax & tip. Quite a good deal, I thought. The only criticism I have is that I wish that they would launch a website so that I can read about the food! Nevertheless, the place is definitely worth the trip to Williamston! I know that I am coming back :)

My first experience at the Riverhouse Inn and it was great! The restaurant offers a very unique cozy experience as each room of the house is a dining option. We sat near the bar and had a great view of the patio and river. Started off with a great martini called "woo woo" and highly recommend. First course was the French onion soup which was excellent followed by wedge salad where the romain was grilled! Main entree was encrusted salmon with prosciutto wrapped asparagus and a potato gratin it was all very delicious. The chef Jason is very personal and so is the owner. Highly recommend

I would quickly bump the star rating up to 4 if the service had been a little better. Our server was swamped and while he did his best to deal with a bad situation, it did detract from our dining experience. We ordered a bottle of wine, Carmenere, with our meal. The wine was one of the least expensive on the menu but turned out to be a great choice! Here's a run down of what we ordered: -Onion Gratinée (excellent!) -Cesar Salad (needed additional dressing) -Salmon Cakes (great spicy remoulade sauce) -Roasted Red Pepper Alfredo with Shrimp (the shrimp were cooked perfectly!) -Cheesecake with mixed berry topping Because of the slow and distracted service, our waiter gave us a complimentary dark chocolate martini to enjoy with our cheesecake. We really did enjoy the food. It was well done and had interesting flavors. The price was fair and serving size appropriate. It is too bad they did not have appropriate wait staff for the number of tables seated. I blame the management for that, not the wait staff. The Riverhouse Inn would be a great option for a quite dinner, and once it gets warm there is a great view outside.

Nice food, friendly service, memorable setting. We enjoyed dinner with friends on the patio overlooking the river. The half off wine Wednesday meant a Napa bottle was almost retail. Pork tenderloin, filet mignon and skirt steak were all well prepared and nicely presented. Key lime dessert was homemade delicious. We'll be back!

I can't decided if I should give the RiverHouse Inn three or four stars. Our meal was good, overall, but there were many little things that kept my visit from reaching a four-star restaurant experience. We stopped in the week between Christmas and New Years to take my wife's grandmother out to a nice dinner as part of her Christmas gift. The place was quiet and nearly deserted during the dinner hour. I imagine most people were still working through holiday leftovers. The place in in a converted house on the Red Cedar river. They have a nice looking Beer Garden in the back overlooking the river and a couple rooms upstairs available for private parties. Our server was pretty good. He was attentive but did not have a solid grasp on the dink and food specials. However, he did not hover and our food was plated expertly between course to give us enough time to converse and digest. The food was a bit hit and miss. Our appetizer (whitefish dip--YUM!) and salads were tasty but out entrees were a little off. Grandma's steak was over cooked. She asked for medium rare and got nearly medium well. I have a hard time forgiving this since RiverHouse is placing itself in the upper echelon of restaurants in the area. My wife comment that her polenta tasted a little off. My stuffed Shrimp were quite good, but the plate came out with a little too much mashed potatoes. Other things to note: several times through out the meal the kitchen staff walked through the dining room. Not something I would mind, but the cook (or who ever he was) had on grubby jeans and filthy sneakers. Not something you would expect to see in a high-end place. A mop buck was pushed through the dining room as well. I understand that the place is small, but this is unacceptable for the menu prices, in my opinion. Have your cooks dress like they are working at four-star establishment and wheel the mop bucket around the building next time. I got the feeling like this was the "B squad" and the regular staff was off for the night. I would try the place again. There is definitively a lot of potential. Next time we will come on a weekend.

The brunch here has gone a bit downhill since the first time I ate here 2 years ago. They used to have many brunch options on the weekend, which was especially good with mimosas on special every Sunday; it used to be worth the 30 minute drive from Lansing. The frittata was probably the best. But now the brunch menu is very limited, with a couple different kinds of french toast offered, custom omelets and a few varieties of eggs benedict. The portions have also gotten significantly smaller but the prices have not changed. The food is still delicious, but brunch shouldn't leave you hungry just one hour later! I'll probably be finding a different brunch place closer to Lansing.

Had lunch today at the Riverhouse Inn. My friends and I had the blue cheese cheese cake and it was fabulous. We also ordered sandwhiches which were all great. I know we'll be going back soon for dinner. Really liked the feel and ambiance of the place with some outside seating by the river.

I've been to the RiverHouse Inn a couple more times since my first review, and both times had the pleasure of sitting out on the terrace. What a stunning setting for dinner! Don't miss the steak with their special OMG sauce (that's what it's called in the menu!); it was great!!

The short of it: everything we ate here was pretty good to very good and the service was equally on par. It was a very rare whirlwind weekend out last week and the BF and I got to hit a bunch of new places for a change, the Riverhouse Inn being one of them. After doing some research on Yelp, the Riverhouse Inn beat out the Red Cedar Grill and Gracie's Place as options for our pre-massage/Detroit adventure lunch. That was mostly due to their outdoor Biergarten area with a view of the Red Cedar river. The restaurant is in an old historic home and when we walked in for lunch we encountered no one in the front of the house and a sign stating to please seat yourself. We walked towards the back where we found more seating, including some hightops near the bar and headed outside. Only diners could be seen, no staff. We sat ourselves and wondered how anyone would know we were there. A couple of minutes later a server shows up with menus ready to take our drink order. We started with water because it was pretty hot out there and asked for a drink menu. For the type of place it is, you would think the drink menu would be in a nice holder or laminated, but the one we were handed was stained and well-worn. There were probably 5 or 6 beers on tap that I saw from my table, but the RI website showed many more kinds as available. ??? There was a moderate, but varied selection of bottled beer (domestic, Michigan microbrews+), scotch, wine, etc. too. The lunch menu is QUITE limited in choices, but it does make it easier to just go ahead and pick something. Our server informed us that they were out of mussels (some supply issue) and some other ingredient that I think went in the wrap. We started with the (2) crabcake appetizer, BF had the Riverhouse Burger and I went with the Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich. We both agreed that fries that came with our meals were nicely seasoned. I think the BF may have liked his burger a bit more than I liked my chicken sandwich (which was still pretty good). I know *I* came hungry, even so we both took home a fair amount of leftovers. We never did get our server's name, though he never actually provided it, I think. It wasn't that busy when we arrived, but a few more parties sat themselves outside while we were there. Our server was actually the ONLY guy in the place. Even so, he kept up nicely with all the tables. I did ask him what kind of buns encased our meats (brioche?). He didn't know, indicated he would find out, and never did provide an answer. Wasn't imperative, but a little strange not to know considering just how very limited the lunch menu is. The outdoor seating on the patio/terrace consists of the nicer kind of furniture you might see on display at Lowe's with a sectioned tile tabletop and large umbrella. Nothing super fancy though. Some stairs will take you past a small garden area down to some big, round, wooden picnic benches right by the river. You may want to have your meal on the inside if you're looking for more intimate/fancy environs. The restaurant itself is located in a very small town between East Lansing and Howell--a neat little find for the location. Our bill (including a glass of Hayman and Hill wine and 3 microbrews, bottle and draft) was just under $70 with tax and tip. Not too bad for a little special occasion lunch filled with adult beverages. I really liked this place and would totally go back if the gods are willing.

Very cute place. They have a nice outdoor seating area that is nice except the bees but that didn't take away from the good food., I had the vegetarian portobella wrap that was excellent and their homemade potato chips are the best i've had in a while. My friends had the kolby burger, crab crakes, and we were all swooning over our food.

This new place has a lot of potential. It is really nice inside and has a great patio section outside with a gazebo, large grass lawn and a view of the Red Cedar river. The perfect place for a small intimate wedding maybe? The owners did a fantastic job remodeling. Currently the menu consist of only sandwiches and wraps with dinner options to come once a chef is hired. They have a full bar inside. In the front entrance the RiverHouse Inn has more of a coffee and tea house atmosphere. The three of us each had a portabello wrap sandwich. It was made with baby bella mushrooms, wrapped in a spinach tortilla and served with house made potato chips. It was very good and reasonably priced for $5.95. It is an easy drive from MSU; a great place to take your visiting parents (actually have them take you!). I'll be sure to check them out when I return at Christmas.

Shhh! Don't tell anyone about arguably the best restaurant experience in the Lansing/East Lansing area. Imagine a patio that doesn't overlook a parking lot. Instead, it overlook the flood plain of the Red Cedar River, with the back nine of a golf course across the river. The patio is surrounded on three sides by a rose/hosta/herb garden. Don't be surprised to see the chef come out and snip some herbs for one of the dishes he is preparing. The ambience is outstanding, and the food is equally good. I had a seafood salad: scallops, shrimp, calamari that had been marinated in a Greek marinade, served on a bed of greens (part of which might have been the herbs the chef was snipping), and lightly dressed with a Greek salad dressing. My wife ordered the filet, and proclaimed it to be one of the better filets she has had in a while. If you are a beer aficionado, they have a dozen unusual selections on tap. They change regularly, so you might be forced to try something new. But Brian, our waiter, knew what they had, and why each one had been selected. If you prefer wine, their list is somewhat limited. But I have always been able to find something to enjoy. Remember: keep it OUR secret!

Lovely place for dinner. I would never have guessed that fish and chips, could be part of a fine-dining experience, but I was happily proved wrong! Enjoy a nice dinner inside in a pleasantly rustic atmosphere, or outside on their large patio, overlooking the river. Great waitstaff and bartenders as well.
