Well, for my 50th review I thought I'd do some place special ... memorable (to me) ... a place where it all started ... my gastronomical career ... My brother used to live near the original Harper location and first introduced me to Louie's in the early '90s ... I've been hooked ever since, :). Every location I've visited since has maintained that same "Louie's" standard of excellence ... and I visit 'em all, ;). I like the counter at the Nine Mile location ... comfortable. Excellent sandwiches & breakfast ... good portions, fair prices, outstanding customer service. My personal favorite is the "Louie's Mistake" and any sandwich on the menu. You can't go wrong going to Louie's, :).

The crazy corned beef craving struck again! Corned beef has been one of my most common cravings since soon after I discovered I was pregnant. As I enter the third trimester, it shows no signs of slowing. Anywho, I headed here because it was 4:45pm when the craving set in and my favorite local place was already closed for the day. The food was ready quickly and I have no comment on service, as this was a carry out. I ordered my usual, corned beef on an onion roll with Swiss, coleslaw and thousand island. The sandwich was just okay. The interior of the bread was not toasted, the beef was fatty and the flavor was mediocre. The coleslaw was a little soggy for my taste. I prefer it to be crisp. The thousand island was good, as was the pickle. Overall, the sandwich was pretty basic and I wouldn't return.

attn: LOVERS of HAM Pick your poison here folks! Thick sliced melt in your mouth ham, fresh roasted turkey, crisp cut bacon or juicy corned beef piled high on your choice of a kaiser, onion rolls or rye at reasonable prices. Throw in some krinkle cut pickles, fries or motowns own better made chips your sure to have a quick, filling and a very satisyfing lunch. If I ever finish endulging my self in all the diffetent varities of sammies they have, they also have an exstensive breakfast menu, I can't wait! *Its no wonder why patrons return and become regulars here. Friendly service combined with speedy cooks & bomb ass sandwiches. *Make sure you grab a louie's card and get it punched. *side note I delivered pizzas in this area when I was a young lad early in my culinary career. I drove past this place daily. So I have to thank Sam G for posting some pics and sparking my intrest, deffintnatly glad I got around to checking this place out.

You'd think a place with ham & corned beef in its name would actually serve decent ham & corned beef. Not Louie's. Much to my surprise, both are overly salty, tough, and a chore to eat. Maybe it was my fault, I ordered "Louie's Mistake" (should've been my first hint). A 3 egg omelette with onions, green peppers, ham, corned beef, and Swiss cheese. It was a lot of food. A lot of mediocre food. The onions and peppers were not cooked enough. I don't mind fresh veggies, but these were near raw, which gave an odd texture. As mentioned above, the ham & corned beef were not tender, super salty, and lacked any other discernible flavor. Eggs and Swiss cheese were fine, but I'm not impressed if you can properly cook eggs and melt cheese... On the side there was a heap of food service hash browns. These potatoes were so obviously dumped out of a plastic bag on to the griddle and then cooked well on one side. The star of the meal was the thick cut rye bread, but even that lacked flavor and was obviously not sliced in house given its uniformity (unless there was a bread slicer in the kitchen). The service was friendly and attentive. My coffee (not bad) was never close to empty. If only more attention was paid to the restaurant's namesake, then I'd have a place I could return to. For now, though, check out the original Louie's on Harper in Detroit for a true ham & corned beef experience.

not appealing. will never go back. definitely disappointing and does not compare to the mt.Clemens or detroit location. I ordered the exact same thing I get every time in the clem and It was flavorless...not hot....and had ingredients in the omlette I've never had before.

I work 400 yards from this place and stop here time to time when I'm in need of something quick. It has your typical diner/coney island menu. Nothing special or unique. They pride themselves on their sandwiches, which are usually pretty good. Their salads is what I usually order. They certainly don't skimp on toppings and all the ingredients are fresh. The Greek Salad with chicken is my go-to. If I am in the mood for a sandwich, I go with the turkey rueben. it's made with big thick slices of rye bread and fresh roasted turkey breast. As Joe H. pointed out, I think breakfast is the weak link. Sometimes I have a good order and sometimes I don't. It all depends.

Every time I come in to Louie's, I am greeted with smiling faces and great service. The food is exceptional for the usual diner fare, and the cheeseburger and gyro pita are my go-to faves. I don't know what Joe H. expected from a diner (fresh cut bread? seriously? where did you think you were?) but this is definitely far better than the National/Leo's Coney Island-type food. I've never had a bad meal at Louie's! The portions are large, so come hungry!

Amazing service. Awesome corned beef & other sandwiches. Owner offered me free soda while we waited for carryout order. Now accepts cash and credit. Be hungry, the sandwiches are very large.

Sometimes you just want to pig out! How about pork, pork, with an extra helping of pork? Yes, please! Heard a lot of good things about Louies on Yelp, and had a training class that ended around lunch. Headed down Hoover and hung a right on 9 Mile, and there it was- Louie's! Scanned the menu and there were a lot of tasty things, so I looked for something that would slake my pork craving- The Piggy sandwich stood out. Sliced ham, bacon, & corned beef on your choice of bread. Got it and an order of chili fries to go. Got back to the office and opened up the sandwich. Very generous portions of meats and very tasty! I could not finish it all in one sitting, so I took the rest home for leftovers. Resonable, ample portions, and delicious! I can't wait to go again and try some of the other sandwiches and their breakfast menu. Someplace that could easily become a new favorite to recommend and repeat!

A great Breakfast place, a great Lunch place! I lived by this place and every time I wanted to go in it wasn't open because I tend to eat later in the day. So I got up early one morning and stopped in for breakfast. I had the Corned Beef Hash and Eggs and it was as good as it gets. Now mind you, I love Corned Beef Hash, even the stuff in the can, so I may be a bit biased here! Staff was wonderful and the Coffee was perfect. Surroundings are clean and well kept. I noticed that this is one of those places where Policemen eat as well, and they know where the good food is, lol. Come in, bring the fam, this place is great!

This place is excellent! I had heard that this place was pretty good and finally decided to stop in. The service was friendly, and I ordered to go and it didn't take that long. The sandwiches were hot and tasted great! Can't even argue with the prices either. If you're in the area, stop in. You won't regret it.

I was visiting friends in the area and they wanted to go here to grab a sandwich. Boy did I get a sandwich!! My friend had a corned beef that was piled high with meat..seems like 2 sandwiches could have been made out of that meat! I had a chicken sub. That was the biggest sub I have ever had! I had to use a fork & knife to eat it! It took me 2 meals to finish it and I was stuffed after each meal. It had several large pieces of marinated chicken breast piled high and the flavor of the chicken was very tasty. Our waitress was great - I forgot her name but overheard her saying she had been there 12 years. She was quick, friendly and didn't seem upset over 2 young kids and there many requests. Definitely a place I would recommend if you are in the area. Good prices, good food!

Simple clean place with great service and delicious food. They have omelette all day. Generous portions, courteous waitresses. Prices are very very reasonable. Went there for lunch. Had a Western omelette and bread and potatoes. Will be back when I am on the area. Strongly recommend. Oh, I forgot to add that they have 14 salads to select from. Lots of vegetarian choices too. I could go on.

FOOD - huge portions, top quality, and always fresh. The salads are mixed greens and not your usual bland and brown iceberg lettuce. The cornbeef and ham sands are always tender and stacked up. STAFF - very attentative and your cup of coffee will never be less than half. The owner Val is always there and definitely takes care of business. ATMOSPHERE - it's one of the cleanest restaurants I've been to. Everything is neat and always perfect. If this place was not here I would be packing my lunch everyday to work.

Stopped coming here. Prices are sickening. Food is good for a small homey feeling restaurant --- but not for those prices. I send to go for breakfast & lunch until the last time we got handed a bill over 20$ for a couple people getting sandwiches - haven't walked in since, and I never intend to again.

After my second carry-out meal from here, I decided to write a review. My first meal was a grilled chicken greek salad and it was huge with plenty of grilled chicken on top. Greens, tomatoes, beets etc, all were fresh. There was enough salad left over for a second meal. My second carry-out was the Corned Beef on Rye with coleslaw and Russian dressing. I ordered this deluxe which means it comes with fries and my choice of soup or salad. I chose the chicken lemon rice soup. After eating the soup and half the fries, I almost was too full at that point to start on the sandwich. I then unwrapped the sandwich and immediately determined I was only going to be able to eat one half of the sandwich. The sandwich was huge piled high with corned beef and it tasted really good. The only thing to improve on this sandwich would be to make the bread toasted and somehow make the sandwich a little more flavorful and that maybe could be simply just by adding a little salt or spices. I'll have to ask the chef about that. All in all, worth the money and I will be back for more and so should you.
