Wasn't THAT thrilled with the beers here but everything else seemed fine! It was our first time here and I guess we were confused about how things are ran there. We sat outside and thought we would have someone waiting on our table. Someone did follow us outside to see what we wanted so we thought we had a waitress. So we ordered and would wait a really long time until we saw her again. I guess usually even if you're sitting down on the patio, you still have to go to the bar to order and bring your drinks back to your table. Still now, I'm not sure if this is how it works. But after that, we felt bad that we expected service. The food is moderately priced and we had really delicious sandwiches. I usually like IPA's and I thought they all tasted a little skunky on the initial taste. However the Summer Sunrise, Black Magic RyPA, and Dunkelweizen were all pretty good! I thought the Summer Sunrise rivaled Oberon (but I'm not a HUGE Oberon devotee like many). Although the patio was nice, I don't really like the interior of this bar. It's dark, windowless, and lacks character. The dance floor is a nice touch but on most nights, it's filled with tables that just make the place look more like a cafeteria or hall. Cool that they have couches though and distill their own liquor! Would still go back to try the different brews and get a yummy sammy.

Nice little brew pub. Several kinds of beers and ale. And mead. And wine. And spirits. All produced in house I believe. The place is still finding it's way, so I won't be harsh about the service. There was an event of sorts taking place this night and I'm not sure they've had that many people in the building at one time, so the waitstaff was kind of running about confused. The menu was interesting with sandwiches and snacks. I had a nice patter that included hummus, two different cheeses and crackers for $4.50. I think in time this could evolve into quite a nice place to spend an evening. The prices were reasonable and the menu showed signs of enough variety and care to make it interesting. The owners/employees were friendly and accommodating and as I said, time will tell. The foundation is there.

This place really needs to get its act together. The beer is ok: it's very homebrew quality but most of it is pretty decent. Nothing I tried was particularly bad and nothing was particularly great. The room is dark and the decor (or lack there of) makes it feel like you're drinking in someones partially finished basement. The food is a low-end Sysco special. They sell all sandwiches and the meat and cheese were a of a really low quality. The guy working back there was slow as anything and it took him forever the assemble a sandwich. This bar has multiple pulled pork sandwiches so we asked if they made the pulled pork on premise and the bartender snidely told us that "no, we don't slaughter a pig an roast it out back." OK then. It's not like buying a pork shoulder and cooking it is the craziest thing ever. The bartender wasn't all that great of a server or bartender which was seriously exacerbated by the fact that she was working the bar and had two 8 tops and a 4 top all at once. If you live in Sparta and aren't in a rush I could see stopping for a beer but if you're a beer tourist or even as far as Grand Rapids this place is so not worth the trip.

This business is now named "The Cellar Brewery". Been twice since the name change. Service has been good both times. Ate once and it was good. Tried about six different beers now, one was quite good, the others were nothing to write home about. My chief complaint against the establishment is the live music. The building is quite small and when a band is playing it is deafening loud. I couldn't hear my friends speaking right next to me. There is no need to have amplified music here, only acoustic. After the name change they did put acoustic dampening panels in the roof but it apparently didn't help much. Needs some improvement, but otherwise a good spot to try out.

Went here awhile back with a Groupon and well.. wish I could say it was a good experience but there are so many things that were terrible. First and formost the service is absolute garbage. The waiter was rude and did not like me asking any questions about their beer (even though I'm a homebrewer and am very curious) this alone would keep me from coming back. However, the presentation of the food was just as bad. Everything was served on paper plates (what are we at a picnic?) And even though they did serve local cheese which was good, the crackers were small broken pieces and should have been thrown out. Decent pulled pork but terrible bun. As for the beer it was ok. Nothing really was terrible but nothing really was outstanding either. Good selection to choose from but few to really keep you wanting more. Personally I think the Black Rye is their best beer. I hope this place can work out its flaws because there is alot of potential.

I have greatly enjoyed my time here. We have always had nice service and the food has been pretty good. I absolutely love the peach flavored wine paired with their peach salsa and chips. Excellent.

The food was terrible. Had a pulled pork sandwich and it was clearly out of a package. Took over 2 hours to have lunch and the place was empty. The service was slow and forgot our appetizer and a drink. Had to go to the bar to ask for a refill. If you want a beer it may be fine, but eat before you go.

Had a great time. I had purchased a groupon and never had been to the area before. We each enjoyed a sampler of beer and some chips and cheese. My favorite beer was the Jon Brown and I also liked the Black Magic and the Mocha Java Stout. It looked really nice inside and the bartender was very friendly. Would definitely come back if we are ever in the area again!

Nice place - a true destination.....sort of... Food/beer - 2/5 Service - 2/5 Atmosphere - 2/5 Price - 3/5 On a recommendation from a buddy we made the drive to Sparta to check out this new'ish place for local Michigan Beer - I'm a sucker for that. Beer - hit or miss nothing to say "I'd come back for that" but pricing wasn't bad. Food - absolutely crap! All food service pre-cooked. If it can't be microwaved or pressed on a George Foreman grill they don't have it. I was starving - what can I say. I ordered the "Spicy" pulled pork sandwich....ugh BBQ Pork pulled from a Gordon Food Service bag is actually what MBC means by pulled pork. Canned jalapenos and a wonder bread bun for $8 - holly crap....oh I mean what crap! This place has real potential - tighten up those beers (true to style that is) and TRAIN YOUR STAFF so they know what the hell they're talking about!

The beer was good. Bartenders were not friendly at all. They acted like they were put out by having to wait on customers. We were there on a Saturday around 5:30 pm, wasn't busy.

Went there are on a Sunday. Right at noon. The food is pretty typical of bar food. Just snacks mostly. The brewmaster was on sight and helped us with all of our samples and gave us a good explanation on how he crafts the beer. Good place!

Stopped in to check out their brews. It was pretty good stuff. They have 6 on tap now and plan on having 8 to 12. They _just_ opened and plan on having a grand opening some time later this summer. They do have bands, and an area that could be a dance floor, lots of tables and chairs - it looks really nice on the inside. Good size bar. It was dead when I walked in, but some folks did roll in. And it was a Tuesday, around 8pm. They aren't a restaurant - they have snacks available - various types of chips, pretzels, crackers that sort of thing, but I did hear one of the staff mention they are going to add paninis in the near future. They will have their own wine available soon - right now it isn't what they made - and once they get approval from the state they will also offer their own distilled spirits. Its a bit early to really offer an opinion on the place, but I'll definitely come back and give it a try once more things available.

Had a $40 Groupon to use so went with friends to eat/drink. Took 1 1/2 hours to get sandwiches. Waiter ignored us (we went to the manager). She waited on us then disappeared (smoke?). Beers are good but I went home smelling like a fried pannini. I think I'll stick with Founders!

They are always on Groupon, $20 for $40 so I bought it and tried them. The beer wasn't very good, they also had 2 listed that wasn't available (it's hand written signs, wipe them off) my first 2 picks at that. Then all the food is fried appetizer type and sandwiches made with lunch meat and bread pressed into a Panini maker with some toppings. Nothing of substance, if the meat quality was raised they actually have some good sandwich ideas. I would never eat there again. I did think it had potential for a cool evening hangout (i was there for a lunch). I read some reviews and they also were in line with my thinking. I would have rather spent my money elsewhere. Waitress was nice, didn't really understand the Groupon so she asked the owner and he basically barked at her and didn't even say hi to me. I was embarrassed for her. I didn't use all the groupon and she mistakenly offered me to buy a growler to go and he barked at her for it. I felt so bad for her I wanted to buy 2 beers to get to the total of my groupon and have them poured out in eyesight of the owner, but my maturity got the best of me...

Super friendly staff! Really good beer and a nice clean atmosphere. Didn't get a chance to try the food but a hole in the wall bar worth checking out.

Went in on a groupon last night. Service was great and the bar tenders we're extremely helpful and friendly. Helped us pick out the beer samplers. We stayed and played the trivia which was also fun. I would go back if I lived closer. Beer is pretty good. I would give beer 7/10 for at least the ones I tried.
