Mandarin Wok Chinese Restaurant

I have ALWAYS loved this place. I went to high school right behind the Mandarin Wok & my friends and I would just walk there on our lunch break or after soccer practice and get food. I love the general chicken and the sweet and sour chicken. I now live far away but whenever I fly home, I make it a MUST to go here. They do not have indoor seating, they have a picnic table outside but it is mainly to grab food to go. Really if you're in the area get it!!! =)

Trini and Jojo, the owners are great guys. We've been regulars even before they took over when it was Rosita's. Menu hasn't changed much but it is always good. Be prepared for a wait.
I am always in "PURSUIT" of Solid Mexican or Tex- Mex Food. well my pursuit was conquered Saturday Night in , Sparta Michigan I was visiting friends in Rockford , MI and we thought Mexican food sounded Great. Ed said we could eat in Rockford as that Mexican Restaurant was good , But the food at TRINIS was Great why settle for good, when GREAT is available ? So we took the 13 minute drive Northwest to Sparta , arrived at 6:30 pm and the place was jumping & packed. the hostess said it would be 45 minutes to seat our group of 6 Note: I normally do not stand in line & wait for food at any restaurant BUT, the smell was that good & watching the plates shoot out of the kitchen, we had to stay. TRINIS gets bonus points for handling a crowd we were down on the list, but in front of us was a group of 10 6 2 2 4 and we were promptly seated at 7:10 [ not bad ] Ryan was our server and he truly did a A+ effort , plus Baliey, she kept us knee deep in both salsa's & chips and removing stray plates The Owner even stopped by to deliver food & fetch refills I ordered the Big Nasty Burrito Trini's Big Nasty - Over stuffed with seasoned steak, marinated chicken, taco meat, beans, rice, lettuce and tomato; topped with burrito sauce, and mounds of melted cheese. 8.99 +Jalapenos & extra Cilantro , per Ryans Recommendation A++ the very first time in my life that I did not, could not finish my food I ate 1/3 of it & took the rest home notice the $8.99 price Wow factor HUGE! $4.50 for Margaritas and they have a All you Can eat Taco Night on Thursdays , with a Taco Wall of Fame current record 39 TACOS check out there menu downtowntrinis.com I am now looking forward to future trips in the Grand Rapids Area!
I've heard nothing but good things about DTMJ aka Trini's. The starter of chips and salsa are at best average, normal bulk white chips with a average salsa. We got queso as an appetizer, average tasting - reminded us of valveta and salsa mix. The tacos were also average, store bought shells, rice, beans. Nothing that really set them apart from other Mexican restaurants. For the area some of the best food you can get however. overall, I would go back if I were in the area. No special trips just for DTMJ though.

Great food and great pizza. Service is always friendly. Their lunch buffet is a great value and has a lot a variety in their selection. All the food has a homemade taste and quality to it.
Nice authentic Italian family owned place. Excellent decor, ambiance, very good food. Nice lunch buffet. The kind of place where the owners come out and interact with the clientele.
After reading mixed reviews, and Trini's down the road closed on Mondays I decided to try it with my lady. It took a while in an almost empty building to even see the waitress, she had obviously been eating in the back and forgot about the rest of the floor. I ordered the chips and cheese deluxe, and cheeseburger deluxe pizza - my lady ordered a club sub. The chips came out wrong, after a longer than expected wait, so we chose to take them as is. The place started getting busier and busier, to much for one waitress to handle, and she had to neglect table cleaning and checking in frequent. I received my main dish after a long wait for what we ordered. The pizza, wasn't very appetizing. I would have preferred a frozen pizza to be completely honest. My lady said her club was sufficient, nothing special. She did however refuse to eat the burnt portion of her sandwich because of the abnormal flavor from it. Didn't bring home leftovers, which isn't very normal for her. I would not eat here again, go any day but Monday and hit Trini's down the road instead.

Besides getting the hours old, basic, pepperoni pizza from here, I was amazed when I opened the box at my house. The pizza not only looked old and not very appetizing, but the slices were so uneven that I think they would be better off having monkeys working in the kitchen than whoever it was that decided to cut this pizza into slices so out of proportion that the smaller slice could be compared to a dime and the larger a dollar bill. Don't be surprised if you get a pizza that was cut by someone as competent as a 3 year old.

Wasn't THAT thrilled with the beers here but everything else seemed fine! It was our first time here and I guess we were confused about how things are ran there. We sat outside and thought we would have someone waiting on our table. Someone did follow us outside to see what we wanted so we thought we had a waitress. So we ordered and would wait a really long time until we saw her again. I guess usually even if you're sitting down on the patio, you still have to go to the bar to order and bring your drinks back to your table. Still now, I'm not sure if this is how it works. But after that, we felt bad that we expected service. The food is moderately priced and we had really delicious sandwiches. I usually like IPA's and I thought they all tasted a little skunky on the initial taste. However the Summer Sunrise, Black Magic RyPA, and Dunkelweizen were all pretty good! I thought the Summer Sunrise rivaled Oberon (but I'm not a HUGE Oberon devotee like many). Although the patio was nice, I don't really like the interior of this bar. It's dark, windowless, and lacks character. The dance floor is a nice touch but on most nights, it's filled with tables that just make the place look more like a cafeteria or hall. Cool that they have couches though and distill their own liquor! Would still go back to try the different brews and get a yummy sammy.
Nice little brew pub. Several kinds of beers and ale. And mead. And wine. And spirits. All produced in house I believe. The place is still finding it's way, so I won't be harsh about the service. There was an event of sorts taking place this night and I'm not sure they've had that many people in the building at one time, so the waitstaff was kind of running about confused. The menu was interesting with sandwiches and snacks. I had a nice patter that included hummus, two different cheeses and crackers for $4.50. I think in time this could evolve into quite a nice place to spend an evening. The prices were reasonable and the menu showed signs of enough variety and care to make it interesting. The owners/employees were friendly and accommodating and as I said, time will tell. The foundation is there.
This place really needs to get its act together. The beer is ok: it's very homebrew quality but most of it is pretty decent. Nothing I tried was particularly bad and nothing was particularly great. The room is dark and the decor (or lack there of) makes it feel like you're drinking in someones partially finished basement. The food is a low-end Sysco special. They sell all sandwiches and the meat and cheese were a of a really low quality. The guy working back there was slow as anything and it took him forever the assemble a sandwich. This bar has multiple pulled pork sandwiches so we asked if they made the pulled pork on premise and the bartender snidely told us that "no, we don't slaughter a pig an roast it out back." OK then. It's not like buying a pork shoulder and cooking it is the craziest thing ever. The bartender wasn't all that great of a server or bartender which was seriously exacerbated by the fact that she was working the bar and had two 8 tops and a 4 top all at once. If you live in Sparta and aren't in a rush I could see stopping for a beer but if you're a beer tourist or even as far as Grand Rapids this place is so not worth the trip.

We like the food, service and the prices there...try to get early so you get a good table..don't get the fat waitress, she is slow. That must be the one everyone don't like....
bad bad service!!!! no steak sauce for the steak, and they couldn't tell me that before i ordered!!!!
Pulled in here on a total whim, I didn't even know it was there. Its in the location where Vitale's used to be, next to McDonalds. I rolled in relatively late on Tuesday evening, around 10pm, and I bellied up to the bar where Big Joe himself was running the show. They have a good variety of beers available. They don't have a million different beers, but they do have a good representation of things to satisfy most every taste. The bar was well stocked. The menu, however, is ridiculously extensive. It took me forever to figure out what I wanted. And you know what? Everything I had was really good. You can tell that Big Joe takes pride in figuring out what he wants to serve. I was talking to Big Joe about all the options on his menu and he could tell you anything you wanted to know about each thing. He even gave me a free sample of rings and fried mushrooms because I was curious about them. Both were really good, I would definitely order them next time I'm there. I ordered a cup of homemade chili that was very good. A bit of a smokey flavor to it. It wasn't spicy enough for me, but they never are. I also had a calzone that was very good. They also have a nice size patio with tables and chairs that would be a great place to have drinks and food. Alas, it was raining when I was there. I'll definitely be back.
