Dan's is a relaxing place to watch a game or chat with friends but they really need to stop using styrofoam dishes. Why can we have real plates! Management needs to step up to this! Our pizza was good but the wings were only so so.

After several trips to Dan's I will never be back. The owner is extremely unprofessional. Yells at his staff, his costumers, and swears in front of children. I expect things to get rowdy in a bar, but this was during the dinner rush. Absolutely uncalled for. I feel so bad for his unappreciated wait staff. Who do a great job (Other than a couple) but Dan's behavior makes me concerned about his mental health. Just a complete jerk. ______________________ Just received this response from the man himself... rest my case: frankly I think you review is full of shit I am glad that you are not coming in...My Mental Heath is definitely intact sir...and Basically your an Idiot...

A friend and I went to play Tuesday trivia, have a few beers, and dinner. Overall, Dan, you have a good Downtown Tavern. The positive highlights included the service we received and the 44 beers on tap (including an impressive array of IPAs). Our server greeted us immediately, was very friendly, and was helpful in providing information about their beer selection. Throughout the evening she checked on us at all the right moments (a difficult feat when all tables are playing trivia) and brought our drinks and food quickly after we ordered. The food was pretty good bar food. My chicken philly sandwich was fine and I give a high five for serving up shoestring fries. The only deductions here concerned that it was really hot on the newer side if the restaurant and the space between people didn't justify the temperature. Also, the men's bathroom needs some work. The door didn't shut, the trough wasn't welcoming, and the look could use a makeover. The bar/restaurant isn't a true dive, so the restroom could be brought up to the same standard. I would certainly stop in again.

Hands down the best burgers in the area...clean environment for kids, family, and group parties...beer selection is OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! With a waitstaff that is 2nd to none your glass is always poured just how you like it. You'd be missing out if you didn't catch your favorite game on one of the 10+ HD TV's. If 6 stars was possible, this place would get 7.

I've been coming to Dan's for a few years now. It's nothing fancy, but the beer selection is awesome! They could certainly upgrade their menu a bit to make the place even better. I don't eat meat so I usually eat something before I get there (a girl can only eat so much cheese pizza and french fries). I would love to see some vegetarian options as well as some home made dressings and pizza sauce. Last time I was there I asked for a side of pizza sauce and was given a cold packet of marinara. Lame. A little effort could go a long way. The renovations look great, the service is decent, and it's a great place to watch sports. I'll definitely be back.

We stopped here for dinner once, nearly ten years ago. My experience was overshadowed by the cigarette smoke. Now that we don't have to worry about smelling like an ash tray every time we eat out, we decided to try this place again. I ordered a Reuben. It arrived on swirly rye. Thousand island dressing came on the side. Hubby ordered the Uncle Otis burger, and it was medium rare, just as he requested. Both sandwiches come with fries. We split an order of cole slaw. Its mayo-based dressing was tangy, but not sugary. I found the names of the locally brewed beers amusing. They were written on a blackboard near our table. One was called "Raging B!t©#." I'm going to have to go back and try that one on a day when I feel like a Raging B!t©# myself. ;-P TVs in every direction, so you can catch up on sports. The waiter was great. Before we left, I took a peek at "the other side." The next-door building was incorporated into Dan's by knocking down a wall, and there's a pass-through from the grill to the other dining room.

We have never had a bad meal at Dan's, but I'm giving it three stars because they have some of the rudest and most incompetent waitstaff I've ever encountered. We were asked twice if we were ready to order within the five mins we sat down, which made us feel very rushed, and the waitress gave off quite a bit of attitude when we just wanted water and ordered no beer. Also, when you walk in, nobody acknowledges your presence, so you have to guess if you should seat yourself or wait. Great food, poor service.

First time at Dans after hearing our friends complement the food. The burgers were great and the sweet potato fries are the best.

My husband and I stopped in after a trip to tractor supply for a quick bite to eat. We found a seat next to the wall with very little room. I hear there is more seating but for someone who has never been there before it was quite illusive. We were waited on by two different girls so it was quite confusing. One showed up for our drink order, a different one dropped off my drink, and still another dropped my husbands. A girl took our order and 3 minutes later another girls came by to take our order. Did I mention it's not a really big place? I ordered a Caliwrap BLT with sweet potato fries. Although they were a little greasy they were very tasty. The wrap was nothing special. I did however pay about ten dollars for a wrap with fries :( My husband ordered their BIG wings for $9 and they were no more than some little wing dings with BBQ sauce squirted over the top. He asked for a second beer from waitress #2 and waitress #1 stopped by to see if he needed another one. We told her one was on the way and when waitress 2 came back she seemed confused and had to go back to the bar to get the beer. Too pricey for nothing special in a crowded place with bad service. Bathroom acoustics were favorable for singing if the stupid fan wasn't so loud.

My husband and I dined at Dan's tonight. The burgers, as always, were amazing. However, my husband requested mayonaise for his burger and the waitress said she would get some. 10 minutes later, no mayonaise and the waitress happens to be standing by our table, watching the TV with some man. I said, "Excuse me, don't forget my husband's mayonaise." The waitress retorted (in a rebellious teenage tone), "I Know." She then waited about 30 seconds, still standing next our table watching the tv, before going to get the mayonaise. The whole time my husband is sitting there waiting to eat his burger. While we will still return because it is close to home and the burgers are so good, I think the management might want to keep a closer eye on the staff.

The burgers are phenomenal, an excellent selection of beer available, friendly staff--seems like a great place to become a regular and hang out.

Update: I think Dan's has improved a lot since my previous review. The beer selection continues to be phenomenal, and the service + new outdoor seating is great. I've had great times here for both lunch and dinner, and the burgers can't be beat (although they have a hard time getting the doneness to medium). Other comments are right about service issues; you probably have a 50% chance of it being slow or the waiter messing up the order. That said, the delicious burgers are the best in the area and the beer list is extensive with many Michigan brews on tap (OG, Shorts, etc).

  • Kathy T.

We had some burgers last Firday night that were outstanding. Their sweet ptoatoe fries are very tasty too. The wait staff was friendly and fast. The patrons are diverse. There are many big screen TV's for sport fans. If you are looking for a local watering hole, this is the standard choice by which all aothers are measured for Saline. I uploaded some photos.

Face it, there's not much to choose from in Saline. Thank goodness Dan's is there. The beer list makes it worthwhile. The food is good enough, though not at all memorable. I don't see why they can't use real dishes - I shudder to think of the garbage bags full of disposable plates etc. If you're in the area, definitely stop in and try some great brews, but you might want to eat dinner in Ann Arbor!!

I've been visiting Dan's downtown tavern for many years. There's no place like it for a cold beer after a sporting event - for me, that would be golf. There are plenty of TVs, so you can watch nearly anything. They're even friendly when you ask to have a channel changed to watch a different game! The burgers are great, and I highly recommend the Sweet Potato fries - just try them, you'll be hooked! Service is very good - not great, but very good. You can go there alone, with a friend, or with your family. It's a great place for those in the Saline area. Read my blog article about Dan's here: homesbyvance.blogspot.co…

My favorite spot in Saline. Der, it has my name on it! Good food and reasonable drinks. Karaoke on Friday nights.

Dan's is one of the very few places in Saline to get a beer. That said, it is a pretty good bar at the same time. They've previously had a lot of space issues. Now they've expanded and there are no longer any problems. They have tons of great beers on tap. I believe they are offering over 30 now. Their burgers are made with meat from Knights in Ann Arbor and are delicious. They have various specials every night of the week. Dan's can be a bit pricey though. Having a meal and a beer or two will set you back around $20.

  • Dave D.

We've been here a couple of times on weekend evenings. Lively atmosphere, OK food and service. They have a great selection of beer on tap, but at $6.50 a glass for a domestic micro brew, it's not going to be a regular hangout.

Wife and I had dinner a couple weeks ago. Good burgers and lots of TV's. It is too loud in the dining room though. Service was decent.

I eat out a lot, and have had more than a few visits to bars, burger joints, dives, and related. Dans is a hidden gem and a community asset. The food is generally outstanding (burgers from a local butcher, and many topping choices), the service friendly, and the prices very reasonable for what you receive. Oh, and did I mention the outstanding beer list? Their rotating selections on this front put all of the other bars in the area to shame (I'm looking at you, Ashleys). They evolve their menu, and clearly strive to do a good job. Dan himself is there often, and the pride shows. And since the smoking ban, the place is a pleasure and kid friendly. And how many places, ladies and gentlemen, can you get an excellent microbrew and food AND feel good about bringing the kids? I've also taken business clients there from all over the globe, and though these folks dine in four and five star places, they all tell me that they LOVE Dans. Sure, there are warts -- they took the waffle fries off the menu (bad move), sometimes you have to flag down a waitress -- but it's worth it, completely.....don't walk, run to Dans....

Live a little and get the peanut butter burger... it is so good you'll wonder why no one else makes them! The salty bacon really balances out the sweet peanut butter =) This place has every kind of pub food you could want: jalapeno poppers, fried pickles, fries, and much, much more. Once you've picked out your food, they have a huge selection of cold beers to choose from. In a healthy mood? Their harvest salad is pretty tasty. The only downside to this place is that their menu is so huge it takes a while to figure out what to order. I personally prefer the smaller menu at Sidetracks in Ypsilanti. They don't have a ton of appetizers, but the ones they do have are out of this world! All in all, I had a good time and would like to return!

When I was growing up, I believed Dan's was the sketchy bar in town. Then, after living a few years in Chicago, I realized that I like sketchy bars. One year I was back in Michigan around some holiday and went to Dan's for the first time. It's not well lit, but it's not sketchy either. Now they even have a very decent selection of craft beers. I always love stopping by Dan's when I'm back in town for a drink and to see which high school classmate I might run into.

We were in Saline for the Antique Show and stopped at Dan's afterwards for lunch. The folks were friendly and the large pizza with bacon, tomatoes and crumbled bleu cheese was DIVINE! Highly recommended!

Great service! Great food! Whatever they are paying Dusty to cook is not enough! The food was very good, he was friendly and fun to watch. Dusty definitely takes pride in his food and workspace. Very clean. Great establishment!

Dan's is the local watering hole of choice in Saline. Since I have been traveling the country, it is nice to come back to my most recent "hometown" for comfort food my first night back. During my week stay, I'm sure I'll be back here at least one more time. They have tasty burgers and 44 draft beers on tap. For the craft beer lover, come here!

Dan's is the local tavern of saline. The food is ok, the beer selection is what you would expect from a local pub, and the service is ok. Overall average.

Great Place to stop for drinks after the race! They have an incredible selection of beer and liquor and it is prices appropriately. We had the pizza and deep fries pickles. Awesome. The service wAs great too! Can't wait to go back!

I stopped in here with my family this Sunday to sample the burgers. Between us, we tried 5, including the peanut butter burger, the moe burger, the texas squealer, the western, and the hot wing. In all, everyone was happy with their choices. The burgers were all huge and juicy, and the meat was nice and fresh. The toppings were good quality as well. I ordered mine medium and it was a bit more done than I prefer, but still very tasty. The fries were just ok, and we were disappointed in the envelope of ranch. It's so easy to make fresh sauces, and would elevate the overall experience. I will definitely try the beer selection next time! We will definitely be back.

We checked out Dan's after spending a day at the Michigan baton competition at the high school last weekend. Since the competition took longer than expected, we didn't have a lot of close options at 8pm, and really needed to feed the kids before they fell asleep from exhaustion! The kids and my mom split a pizza, and they seemed to enjoy it. My dad and I got burgers which were tasty, and my hubby had wrap sandwich that he liked. Overall, it was a nice little hole-in-the-wall that I wouldn't rule out if we were in the area again :)

Great sandwiches, burgers, big cold beers; what's not to love. My only complaint is when I ordered a pizza and it wasn't good at all. I guess the old saying of "don't go to a deli and order egg rolls", rings true.

Ate there for lunch on father's day, food was good, a large drink selection, plenty of tvs to watch the games. Only thing I can complain about is trough in the men's room, it's 2014, how about a couple of urinals? Not a fan of a drank dude wanting to cross streams.

I heard years ago that Dan's Downtown Tavern was the best local place to get burgers, but I didn't really feel like taking my kids into a local bar to eat, so never went. That was a mistake. While it is a tavern & they have a large selection of beers on tap, it's not that much different than what you'd see at a TGIF/Applebees (meaning there is a bar section, but also a restaurant section). I've been in there a few times now, for lunch and dinner. It's one of the 2 best places to eat in Saline. They have a large assortment of burgers (I've had a couple and both were really good), but also have sandwiches and offer specials. I tried a smoked pork and gouda sandwich that was a lunch special & it was fantastic. The prices are very reasonable, and service has always been good. NOTE: You will have an option of chips or fries (fries are extra). I highly recommend the chips - they are homemade & better than the fries. The only negative is that the bathroom's not great, and I don't remember a changing area for anyone that has toddlers. All in all, it's a great place to go in Saline!

Don't let the appearance of this "dive bar" fool you. The food is really excellent and so is the service. I have never had a bad meal here and the beer selection is great. This is a great option for a casual night out.

Great food, Great beer, authentic atmosphere. Dan's is the best restaurant in Saline. I don't think that a superior restaurant exists for a burger and a cold brew.

  • Al D.

I visit Dan's at least once a month for a burger and beer. This place is a must hit in Saline if you're looking to grab a beer somewhere. Burgers are the best I've ever had at a tavern and the environment is great, family friendly but still great for adults looking to watch the game and grab a beer.

I want to love Dan's. I would like it to be my go-to, local neighborhood bar. That said, I've yet to really and truly love my Dan's experience. I'll say this: it was booming on a Saturday night. I went with girlfriends and was disappointed to discover, after we placed our order, that they have live music. Loud live music, which killed all chance of having conversation. They only carry Barefoot wines (please, please, if you're reading this Dan, step up the wine offerings; $4.50 a glass for that crap?). Burgers were super greasy and accompanied by small packets of mayo. Tonight's saving grace? Our server was pleasant.

I have not had the pleasure of eating at Dan's, but I love love the beer selection. I stopped in yesterday (a Friday) around 4pm (pretty busy, but not completely full) to have a couple beers. The list is great - and the service is quite friendly. My friend also had some Jameson Whisky too, and was very happy about the ~$4 cost. I had a couple of Michigan IPAs that I was very happy about. I like the variety of Michigan beers that they have available. The parking can be found behind the buildings - though there is street parking too. What I didn't like were all the TVs. That's probably good for most people - but I just get too distracted. The feeling in the place is friendly and warm. Overall great place to stop in for some beer or bar food. I've heard great things about the burger, so today I'm heading into the Clinton Dan's to give it a shot! Can't wait. :)

Have never really had a hankering to go there, but Short's had a tap takeover, so we went. The place was soon packed, but we got there early enough to get a table. We could feel cold breezes every time the doors opened, but it is Michigan! The side we sat on had one basic waitress. She was overwhelmed and you could see it in her face. To their credit, the whole staff pitched in and helped out, but it still took time to get waited on, et cetera. The food was decent enough, especially considering the small food prep area. Those guys really cranked out the grub. The beer, of course, was great, though again, service slowed it down. I don't know if management was caught off guard by the crowd, but that was the overshadowing concern.

They usually have good burgers, however the last two times the burger was over cooked and smaller. They have one more shot for my burger business or else we go to The Bridgewater Bank Tavern for all our burger business.

Looks like Dans is still the Cats A$$ in Saline. Revisited last night after an extended period away due to geographical differences. My Western Burger was just like I remembered it. In fact they gave me extra napkins because I was drooling over it. Me wifey had the Peanut Butter Burger for the first time and she reports she will have it again. We thought Peanut Butter Burger.?.... it's actually quite good. Now I see Dan expanded AGAIN to a third addition. It looks awesome. See picture. Dan , you could kick some serious butt in Dundee if you wanted to open another Tavern somewhere. Food and drink were "Orgasmic" ...again.

This bar is always super busy but still finds a way to make it happen. My only complaint is the service being a little slow sometimes but hey, like I said, there is a massive amount of tables to service. The food is mostly very good. I've tried a variety of things and haven't found anything I don't like yet. The Mexican food is very good. I absolutely love the burgers! I think there's only been one thing so far that I've said "meh" to. There are a large selection of different burgers and lots of different appetizers. The sweet potato fries and waffle fries are both favorites of mine. I also like how many televisions there are. There is the main bar side, which is mostly kind of small and is for mostly single or couple patrons who choose to watch the game together. But I also like that the additional areas have a lot of TVs as well so if I come with the whole family, I can be polite and listen while I also watch hockey out the corner of my eye. The prices are also pretty fair as well. It's right about in line with a typical burger joint and they have a lot of drinks to offer. The mixed drinks I've found are just okay but the draft beers taste really fresh. I'll be back often!

It's hot! Sat in the middle room that had the Karaoke setup. No air conditioning but there was a huge fan in the back, blowing forward. Didn't reach the whole room though and all the tables around it were full when we walked in. We ended up in one up front. Don't order water. It's disgusting. I like water with my food and beer by itself but I won't make that mistake again. The burgers are really good. Great beer selection too. Waiter could have been nicer and took a long time for requests. Karaoke book is small and the KJ is nice. System is ok and the crowd is welcoming enough. We had a table of seven, looking for some fun but this place seems to be a little more laid back.

This place was busy on a week night, but no problems finding seating, with two different sides to this tavern. We came to check out the Trivia, which for those who never have done Sporkle Trivia (or at least here), it was fast-paced, i.e., don't come expecting to have much side conversation with your friends while playing trivia (upside being you are done by 10pm, for us old fogeys). The place has an extensive beer menu, however, service was less than stellar. Not only the infrequency of seeing our server, but also when one of us ordered a cider, they got what definitely wasn't anything sweet like a cider. However, we had to wait likely 15+ mins to find the server again, asked about it (thinking it likely was a mixed up order), she responded "I dont know anything about beers" and wouldn't allow us to send back the beer. Sadly, that was a waste of $4, as the entire thing just sat at our table the rest of the night. Surprising for a place that boasts about how many beers they have on tap, you think they'd pride themselves on making sure you like what you got or at least received the right order, but guess not. Food was only so-so as well, the wings were crispy, however, very small, and they serve the sauce by just giving you packets of salad dressing. The chicken sandwich was also very small in size.

With all things consider, this is probably the best dining option in downtown saline. This place has a dive bar feel but is bigger than your average dive bars. They have about 20 beers on tap and on this particular day it was $3 for all pints (they have different drink specials everyday). For my starters I had the wings (have about 6 flavors, very subpar average wings) and spinach dip (runny, but extremely good and they do give you a lot). For my meal I went the western BBQ burger (they have about 15-18 different burgers), which was really good. However the highlight of the meal was in fact their delicious beer battered fries (simply amazing and a must have). Overall a really good place and i will be back because of the big menu they have which means more stuff to try.

Atmosphere: Depending on time you go, it's dark and sometimes hard to read the menu depending where you're seated. It can be noisy. It has a busy vibe without feeling crowded though. There's three rooms, and they all have their own distinct tone to them. Wait staff: Definitely busy. Sometimes it was hard to find our waiter. Whether because they're spread to thin or other I don't know. They were always super nice, but again very busy. Though I will state that one of my orders was wrong at one point, but whose fault it was (waiter or kitchen) I don't know. Food: All depends on what you get. I don't do meat, so I can't speak for the burgers. But the pizza is super tasty. The spinach and artichoke dip a touch watery but good flavor. I DO NOT recommend the nachos on the last page. All the tortilla chips are these red tasty corn chips, but they're thin. So under the avalanche of toppings, they either break when you try to pull them out or they're soaked through and mush. Also, there is beef in the chili on the nachos. Found that out the hard way.
