I thought being right across the street from a community college meant Kavan's would be a pretty hip place to hang and have a cold beer. I mean, Auntie Em behind the bar was nice enough and the service was okay, but the food kinda sucked. The interior lighting was too bright and the layout was just bad. There are better spots in the area for sure. I won't be back.

This restaurant is kind of underwhelming. We've stopped in here at lunch time a few times because it's basically the only non-fast food option around my work. It's pretty basic food options: burgers, sandwiches, soups and salads. The food is just ok, nothing special. The service is kind of on the slow side. It's fine for an occasional quick bite but I'd never go out of my way to come here.

Menu read as delicious and the very friendly waitresses LOVED the food. Unfortunately, we did not feel the same. 1. French onion soup - mediocre 2. Hand cut and dipped onion rings - not so much! Onion is too sweet and the batter....felt like I was eating an onion donught. 3. 1/3 burger...provolone and an onion ring ...again nothing special. Meat wasn't juicy...flavorless. ..but was so soft but too sweet. Not what I was expecting. Overall, first and last visit. Should have made burgers at home .

Very disappointing. At one time this was the best bar and Grill in town. You could always count on a good burger and good value. We haven't been here for a while, and they're apparently under new ownership. The new owner only wants to make a profit. French fries, onion rings and all toppings are now significantly more expensive than they were before. Everything is al a carte, never a good sign. The food is passable, but there isn't much of it. My daughter ordered fish and chips and only received a single piece of fish with three measly onion rings. My son only received three onion rings with his hamburger and two little bitty pieces of bacon. The service is less warm, less friendly than it was before. I guarantee you we will never be back.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS PLACE???? Burgers were so dry and overcooked. Onion rings were cold. French onion soup should be renamed "Salt soup". This was always my go-to place for a great burger...not any more. :(

They got rid of the best manager there for starters. He is not a friend but I do know him through the Business so when I say that it is because I used to go there after class for lunch. There food and drink (alcohol) are way over priced. You can go to Shakers 2 min away and get better cheaper everything. They refuse to admit wrong and take care of you unless you bring it up to them making you feel uncomfortable for having to bring it up in the first place. Now that I know shakers is open at 11am I will be going there after class instead. Shame on you for over pricing your drinks and less then sub pair food!

Very bad experience. I bragged on kavans with my family. Told them it was the best burger and onion rings. Long story short..rings were burned..got 4 small ones with my burger...burger sucked...tasted like grease. Service took forever and there were only 3 other tables. Excuse was the cook was new. Stay away!!

Kavan's was by far one of the best places around town to get a VERY GOOD BURGER AND A BEER. Went there recently and was informed that it was bought out in January and was under new ownership. My family and I would go here at least once a month and were always extremely satisfied with the quality of our meals and the outstanding service we always received. When you walk in the front door, you will see on the wall the original business model written on a poster, and I think by far that is an absolutely amazing statement, and has always held true until recently. Complete menu change and all of our favorites, including staff and food are no longer there. It appears it was taken over by management that has many "VOWELS" in the last name pronounced with 3 pounds of phlegm. Save your money, its not worth the trip.

What proud MCCC grad (Class of '81, Go Monarchs!) doesn't know about Kavan's Tavern (formerly Kavan's Colony East)? It's been a while, but when I saw the Sunday Breakfast Buffet coupon in the SaveOn magazine, I figured it was time for a reunion. Moderately priced, this Sunday Breakfast Bar fills that niche between the more commercially prepared breakfast buffets & the higher priced 'Sunday Brunch' places. Features the standard items (scrambled, bacon, sausage, cold cereal, et...), but the large slices of Dearborn Ham, the strawberry/apple waffles, pastry selection, biscuits & gravy, mini bagels, fresh fruit and the corned beef hash stand out, making this a good option for your Sunday morning out. Everything seemed pretty fresh too, :). Now, I don't want to give you the impression everything is rainbows & ponies in there ... they did have the lone waitress doing some prep work, so take that into consideration if your coffee refills aren't fast & furious, eh? Customer service was outstanding and I got the impression this place really wants to be my regular Sunday morning stop, :). Highly recommend. Ideal if you're looking to dine prior to heading downtown for an afternoon game. An unpretentious, reasonably priced, pleasant dining experience ... I guess you really can go home again, ;). EDIT: Oh yeah, there was a bit of confusion as to whether the Breakfast Bar was from 9am - 2pm or 10am - 2pm, so I waited until 10am. Call first, just to be sure, :).

I really hate to give them a bad review. I've been going there as far back as I can remember. But the new owners have ruined what once was an amazing restaurant. The French onion soup was so salty, I'm still tasting it 5 hours later. I used to go there just to get the soup. The pizza was passable. But I could probably make one just as good at home. Even the beers tasted weird. I won't be returning until I see another "new owners!" Sign. I hope they read this and at least try to make it better there.

This is our favorite place for quality burgers. You can get either a 1/3 or 1/2 pound ground round with fries or onion rings, both are excellent! The soups are great too. I love the French onion, but I'm having Italian wedding soup tonight. Can't wait to eat!

Visited this establishment a few days ago with a couple friends. I live nearby and drive by this place 20 times a week. So we sit at the bar and ordered off their happy hour menu. We ordered two $4 long islands and a Bud light. We both thought the long islands were pretty weak. We decided to order food while we were there. We ordered two half slab rib dinners and an order of fries. The dinners came with a choice of potato and coleslaw or salad. Both dinners had fries and one coleslaw and one salad with ranch. The coleslaw i received was horrible, it had a weird off taste and I actually sent it back and got a salad instead. I honestly can't remember the last time I sent food back. The ribs weren't good at all. Very, very tough and fatty. The one bright spot we all agreed on were the seasoned fries. The service was okay nothing out of the ordinary. I can't say I'm in a rush to return to this place and don't think I will ever return. Nothing about the place stood out and there are a lot of other bars closer to me that offer the same thing.

Very disappointing! My parents used to take rme here as a kid. Even a few years ago we were here. It used to be great! I just went and the service was absolutely horrible. Took forever to get a drink. Then all the food came out after waiting forever. All the food except my 2 year olds. Kids food should come out first. He said he didn't rant the rest of the food to get cold. Um it was cold! Even my daughters that came out after cold! Cheeseburgers we all had to pull the fatty bacon off. Asked for guacamole on the burger for $1 extra. It was a tiny dab of guac you couldn't even taste. So disappointed. Used to be a great place. Won't be going back.

I cannot stress enough how absolutely HORRID their Mother's Day Breakfast Buffet was!!! They had cold pancakes, missing breakfast items that they couldn't replace quick enough (despite the lack of people that were there for it anyway) and when I asked to just have hashbrowns and 2 sunny side up eggs instead of the buffet special, I was COMPLETELY DENIED. THIS PLACE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES! I swear I could have managed a much better breakfast buffet all by myself if I was let back into their kitchen! Keeping up with pancakes, eggs and bacon between 3 cooks shouldn't be an issue!

I am sorry to say after many years and 4 generations of our family enjoying Kavans we most likely will not return. Since the restaurant was sold I have tried it on 5 occasions. I must say that each time the food is just not up to par. Sadly, my son and I ate there for the last time tonight. The quality of the food is just not the same. I do not believe that this is the fault of the cooks, but of the products they are working with. We will greatly miss all of the staff, who have become like family to us. Unfortunately, the poor quality of food and unwelcoming atmosphere the new owners have created are driving long standing customers away. Good bye to a Roseville/Warren landmark you will be missed.

I've ordered the "Turkey Gobbler" at Kavan's three times. As unexciting as a turkey burger may sound I crave this thing on a regular basis. it's a favorite of mine. My father and sister like to get their huge sandwiches and always seem satisfied.

Had a great meal on the outside patio on st paddys day. Excellent had pattied burger. Go for the half pound. I had the fire burger and it had a nice blend of Cajun spices and jalapeños with pepper jack cheese. Others had the Chicago corned beef and raved. Good beer selection and really friendly wait staff.

Old school burgers. 1/3 lb or 1/2lb cooked how you want it. All the normal sides LMTO. Good sweet pot fries but...... The onion rings are the standout , freshly made not frozen bagged rings. You sometimes may have to wait until they cut and dip the onions but it's worth it. I had the 1/2 buffalo burger med. rare which when ordering buffalo is a rarity. Perfectly cooked and brought out hot and juicy. The rings were so hot I burned my tongue, it was worth it. Service was prompt and spot on. We were there with a party of 40 and she had the entire group. She never missed a beat. The drinks were never empty or tables cluttered. You know i had rated this 4 stars but i can't think of a reason not to rate them 5. Very reasonably priced, both the drinks and the food. Also very clean restrooms

At Kavans across from college Tiger Game on place is almost empty! Can you believe a bar that does not have chips or pretzels?? Who runs this place??

Go here for lunch and dinner quite often to meet my parents as it's relatively close to their house. Their food is standard American fare. I would stick with burgers and sandwiches here. Their salads are also good, but the few dinner menu items I've tried have been lackluster. Make sure to try the onion rings and French onion soup!! Overall, it's a decent place to grab a quick and relatively cheap bite to eat.

Ordered the baked spaghetti on my daughters recommendation and it was delicious. The garlic bread was awesome as well. I usually order a burger when we go there and they're about average. Always love the decor of this place...very warm and inviting. The service is always friendly and fast.

I gave this place two tries and was not satisfied both times. I ordered the Buffalo burger and zesty tomato vegetable soup as a carry out. I live about two minutes from Kavan's and when I got back, my burger was med well (which I ordered med rare) and the bun was soggy. The soup tasted like it was out of a can. I purposely ordered the burger med rare because the first time I ordered it med and it came out well done. I was very disappointed with the food. This place is supposed to be known for having great burgers, but can't seem to get the temp right :(

I used to stop by this place a lot after class back in the 80's. Not much has changed which I liked. The wait staff was polite and quick to get us seated, and the food was tasty. I had a bar burger, onion rings and a draft beer. I'd rate the burger above average and the onion rings were great. The place looked a little dirty to me. Perhaps a new coat of paint, or a thorough cleaning might help. However, it wasn't a show stopper. I'd stop in again the next time I'm in the neighborhood.

Burgers are decent but were not cooked as ordered. Didn't have time to send them back. Side of onion rings was $1.85 and there were 4 large onion rings for this price.
