Love that you can bring your dog and have dinner on the patio...We got a new puppy and didn't want to leave him at home. Needing to grocery shopping, no food in the house and hungry. I remember a sign at BD's welcoming dogs on the patio. So off to Mongolian we go...dinner was fabulous (as always) and our waitress Mary Jo brought out dinner for our puppy....She was awesome! Cash (our puppy) behaved himself well, it's definitely something we will do again! Thank you BD'S Mongolian for being pet friendly!!! :-)

The wife and I love bd's. This location is by far the worst one that I have been to. Most of the time we go to the one on hall rd and today we stopped into the Roseville location and what a different experience we had. The service was poor, the food stations were a mess and all the spices where empty. I think from now on we will be going the Sterling Heights.

Went here about a month back the service was great and the food was delicious. .. kinda over priced when I don't eat from the salad bar... it's been a while since I was there, now the salad bar is included. . No biggie but what great food... thanks I'll be back

It's about time the East Side got its own bd's! Anybody who's been in Detroit for a while knows about bd's and what to expect. This location doesn't disappoint. Go through their buffet area, choose meats, seafoods, vegetables and sauces and have it grilled up before you. Quality of ingredients are supurb and the ability to make anything you want is ideal for all the picky eaters in my life. Great food, great service and a pretty fun atmosphere. Definitely in a weird location, though. Didn't even know it existed for the first year it was there (Gratiot and 12 Mile). Not as crowded as the other bd's I've been to, so I was able to get in and out pretty quick. This comes with my highest recommendation. Try it - you won't be disappointed.

This experience was absolutely terrible. I usually go to this BD's Mongolian Grill location every year for my birthday but after this I don't think I will ever be going back. I have never had such bad food poisoning from a restaurant ever, I was sick for two days. I had family in from out of town and had to cancel my family bbq because of how sick I was. I mean what can I expect when I saw a guy working on the meat coolers while we were there, that should've been a hint right there. I know my food poisoning is from this location because I went there with two other buddies of mine and all three of us experienced the same thing. Not only did I get food poisoning. My server was terrible I only had two bowls in a two hour time period due to the fact that our server was never around and he wasn't even busy. So long story short I would strongly recommend not going there.

Never coming back. The service isn't great and the food isn't good either... I ordered apple pie and there were ice chips in the ice cream... Plus the pie WAS FROZEN

As far as BD's Mongolian joints go...this one's a little sub-par to the others that I've been to in Royal Oak and up on Hall Road. Positives: - Lettuce wraps. Not sure if this is new to ALL BD's since I've last been to one or just this one, but it was definitely a nice surprise. Negatives: - This is the first BD's I've ever been to where you had to wait for a server to bring you a bowl before you can get started. They're usually there at the various bars when you go up to start grabbing stuff...but not here. That's a problem when... - Your server doesn't get to your table for (I paid attention) 15 minutes. Even more annoying is the server who I *thought* was our server...since she handled the booth next to us, all of the other booths in our row, and even some tables next to us...never even made eye contact the entire time as she kept walking by and HAD to have seen us sitting there... - ...especially when we got up after a few minutes and decided to just get started...which led to the aforementioned "there's no bowls up there" discovery... - ...and then our server FINALLY came over, and apologized because she was confused since we'd already had drinks on the table (duh...there's a line up front, you think I'm standing in line without hitting the bar and grabbing drinks? what's wrong with you...?), but would be "right back" with our bowls to get started... - ...and that took ten minutes. And then we asked for a water and two cokes to go with our drinks, lettuce wraps, sour cream, three orders (there were three of us) of brown rice... - ...and so we went up to do the "make your food" thing, and the line, no joke, took 30 minutes to get through. With 20 people in it. I don't really understand how that math all worked, and it was *really* slow... - ...and then we got back to the table, finally, where we discovered three waters (not two cokes and a water), tortillas (not lettuce wraps), one order of brown rice (not three), and no sour cream. And, of course, no server to be found anywhere. - ...so then she showed up after another ten minutes, took two of the water glasses (really? you're a restaurant and you RAN OUT of clean glasses? At 8:00? How does that happen?) to get cokes... - ...and still forgot the lettuce wraps, the sour cream, the rice... All in all, "meh". I've definitely come to expect better from BD's overall. Probably won't be back to this one any time soon.

I normally like BD's but tonight's visit makes me unfortunately left with a bad impression. The restaurant was dirty and the hostess had a hard time seating us because the bussers were no where to be found. The waitress was pleasant and food was good but grillers didn't say hello or acted their usual friendly selves. We ordered lettuce wraps and had to ask 2x for extra plates since they only give you the bowl your cooked food is in and when we continued to sit without our waitress coming back I eventually had to get plates myself from the salad bar. Usually I like this place but it was not a pleasant experience tonight. I'll stick with the royal oak location going forward.

Bad experience overall. Restaurant was very busy and staff was unable to keep up. They were out of clean forks, rice and soup bowls. It was freezing inside and multiple customers asked about heat. At no point did a manager address any patrons regarding any of the issues. Will never go back!

It is kind of hard to rate a restaurant where you essentially make your own food, but I do love me some good old fashioned BD's. I do not however love going there when it is packed. While the grillers are quick it still can take a long time to get your food made. One of the dudes there has some mad skills spinning those long spatulas they use and even does this trick where he cracks an egg, separates the yolk and is able to toss and juggle it without it breaking. It was pretty cool. I dig the fact they offer lettuce wraps now alongside tortillas to go with your stir-fry. Service is usually never a problem and honestly it never should. I mean all they do is bring you bowls, rice and drink refills. It is probably the easiest of all of the Server jobs out there. I worked in a few restaurants ranging from "family casual" places to somewhat higher end places and I would have loved it if all I had to do what bring drinks to the table and collect my tips when done.

This place has definitely gone down hill. It was so good for so long too. I know you create your bowl but I'm thinking maybe the food wasn't as fresh or something. Plus the service could've been way better as they were slow and not busy. I did recently go to the one in Novi and that was just as good as I remember it. And I overheard one of the grillers say they have been out of chopsticks for 2 weeks. Isn't this a stir fry place? Aren't chopsticks, like a staple? Get it together, Mongo in Roseville, I'd like to go back one day.

Cool place. I'm generally not a fan of the "buffet" style stuff and wasn't sure how much I'd enjoy this. I was invited out for a birthday dinner here and as pleasantly surprised. Placed seemed clean enough, employees were friendly enough, server didn't mess up the check at all with a larger party on a ton of different bills. It's not fine dining, but it tastes damn good, you get to eat all you want, and it's not super-expensive. Even gave my sister a cool tin foil/TP birthday hat to wear. :-) The cooks banter was amusing, interactive, and funny. Maybe I'm just a dork, but I like stuff like that. I want to come back with the family as I think they'd get a kick out of it all.

Not bad! The control over your food is great, the staff are friendly and service is competent if not the best ever. If you want hot, spicy food and are used to being served non-spicy "hot" dishes, come here for a breath of fresh air. If I wanted more spices, I threw them in. If I wanted more jalapenos, I threw them in. Easily the best hot food I've had in Michigan in years.

Places that leave the food sitting out in trays weird me out, however, this place is very very clean. I like being able to pick what goes in my food and I was able to make some healthy choices with brown rice, broccoli, and a lot less salty sauce. Was very yummy!

Stopped in last Saturday on the way home from a visit to the Cultural Center of Detroit. This place was busy! There was a line to get to the grill, but it was ok. The food was good and the other patrons also seemed to enjoy themselves.

I like it! I know it's a chain and I really don't love chain places. Well maybe a couple but this place is yummy in my tummy! Seriously if you go here and don't like the food how can you blame anyone but yourself! HA! HELLO you pick it you mix it they just cook it! I love some seafood and lots of veggies and baby corns! ahahaha! Peanut sauce chili pepper flakes and lots of other jazz. I took my mommie dearest for her bday and she lurved it!! We pigged out and left with that warm fuzzy full feeling you should have after a great meal. Even our serve was sweet and very attentive. One thing that kept me from the 5th star. It was freezing effing cold in there and the music was turned up way louder then normal and we could hardly hear one another talk in a normal voice. OH and it was bad hip hop night to op it off. But yea other then that it was a great visit and of course my food was DEEELISH!!

We have been coming here for years, and even had our first date here. I would give the restaurant 4 stars but out waiter Kurtis bumped it up to 5 stars. He was personable, and joked with my husband and I. If that want enough he jumped behind the grill because three was a rush. Now that's what I call fantastic customer service.

BD's is nothing special, but considering that you basically make your own food here, there is not much excuse for NOT liking it. I have always liked mongolian because it's a good place to go when I'm trying to watch my calories - easy to get a tasty plate of lean protien and lots of veggies, and they have a number of low calorie and fat free sauce options. It's getting pricey here though. A good friend of mine taught me the awesome trick to get more food for the one-bowl price....when you go up in line, use two bowls, one for your veggies and one for your meats. Cause when you give it to the grillers, they just throw both bowls on together, and you end up with an overall larger plate of food, but the server only counts the one plate you bring back to the table. It's worked more times than I can count, at a few different BD's locations. But the grillers....good Lord, the grillers. I know they think their witty banter with customers standing at the grill is amusing and will get them more tip money, but I don't get behind it. I don't need you to flip a shrimp behind your back into the bowl, I don't need you to bang the gong, sing a song, or whatever other antics management tells you are charming. In fact, next time I think I will offer them a tip just to shut up and cook my food in silence....

I love BDs Mongolian Grill but NOT this location. The place is always a mess! The floor has food all over it, the food area is always disheveled with food mixed together and the service is usually slow. If you want a better experience overall, go to the Hall Road location instead.

This place has gone downhill in a hurry. The prices have gone up. Now they only have 1 soup and it's spicy chili so if you don't like soup you are screwed. And to top it off its 5:15 on a Sunday and they only have one person on the grill that knows what he is doing (did I mention he's training someone else?) I will not be coming back here again anytime soon.

I have been going with my kids for years and they have seafood, fish and but allergies and they have been extremely accommodating. My kids are younger and not always so helpful however the staff has gone out of their way to lend a hand without asking. The day shift wait staff seems to be on their game always the night isn't always as good. Because of my kids allergies I always put hand sanitizer on multiple napkins and clean the table and every time the napkin is black with dirt. I have told a couple managers over the last few years and the problem continues. Also the restaurant is looking a bit shabby lately and I have heard tables next to us talking about it to. Last week while waiting by the allergy area for my sons food there was a young man cutting a berry for a sundae or a drink and the cutting board was completely covered in crumbs and black stuff and rather than getting a clean board he brushed some crumbs over with a knife. So gross! Based on lunch shift wait staff service I would give at least four but, based on the dirty tables, cutting board and how dirty and beat up everything looks it deserves maybe a 1 or 2

Like others have said, this place lacks in service. I stood waiting to be seated for about 5 - 10 minutes (closer to 10) with waitresses walking by.. Bartender standing there talking to another coworker, knowing that I had been standing.. Not one person said someone will be with you in a minute.. Just as I was about to leave, a young waitress came over to seat me. She didn't even apologize for the wait and I know she had to have seen me standing there.. Thankfully, I had been to a BD's a few times in Florida, so I knew the routine.. The waitress certainly did not offer any help. I requested the brown rice from the start and asked for my bowl since she wasn't offering it to me. Ended up going with the unlimited bowls so that I could sample a few small creations (beef, chicken and seafood). The overall atmosphere, the creation of the dishes and watching the grillers makes this a fun experience. The cleanliness of the place is lacking.. The counters (and sauce areas) were so sticky where people bring their creations to be cooked. I realize they are busy (although there weren't that many people in there so not sure what the problem was) but they need to wipe the counters (and sauce areas) down. In fact, I wiped the counter where I was standing with a little wet nap that they had there. I set the used napkin aside, assuming they would throw it away. Ate my finished creation, made another to bring up for cooking and saw that my used napkin was still sitting on the counter. Gross! One guy managed to bring his food up in a huge platter plate to be cooked up (instead of the small bowls they give you).. The cook was very rude to him and scolded him for using it.. granted, he did have a lot of food on the plate but to patronize him the way he did in front of the other customers was probably not necessary. Finally, the quality and attention to the bar were not up to par.. I recall the BD's that I went to in Florida constantly had someone tending to the bar and checking the temperature of the food. Didn't see anyone doing that here.

My family and I enjoy Mongolian BBQ, so we've been to BD's a decent number of times. Prices for the unlimited BBQ are okay and drinks and desserts are cheap. But sadly, the service is pretty poor. We went the last time I was back in Michigan. There were about 10 of us, but it was late and there was a large empty table right there and it still took absolutely forever to be seated. Drinks and the bowls for the BBQ took a while to come, but luckily after that you can go get started as soon as possible. The food areas aren't the neatest, but that's more to do with all of the customers filling up their bowls and making messes than it is to do with the staff. It's neat enough and the food is kept at the right temps. But then we were all done eating and decided to order dessert. Most of the desserts came out on time, but when the waitress (who was sweet and apologetic) brought them all out she realized she'd forgotten to put in the order for my fried Oreos. By the time they came out, everyone else was done. Honestly, we'll probably be back to BD's since the prices are decent and it's not terrible. But I really wish the service would improve.

It's been a while since I've been to the Mongolian Grill, so when lunch came up we thought about trying this one in Roseville. We went for a lunch bowl and had a great meal. I tought the restaurant was clean and the meat and vegetable sections were well kept and continually refilled. I tried a Ribeye/Garlic/MongolianGinger w/assorted oils and spices with a Tiger Sauce cooktop splash and was very well satisfied with the creation/results. I topped it with shredded cheese, water chestnuts and black beans and the brown rice. I split the lettuce wraps and hot tortillas with my lunch pal and enjoyed it immensely. The server was attentive and helpful and everyone at BD's was friendly and working hard to keep things nice. 4 stars and... I'll be back!

This location has gone down hill since the crowds of people who come in are rude and the staff there is just as bad. I use to love going here but it really has gone down hill on how the service is. I'll be going to the one in royal oak or to the one on hall road now on.

Very disappointed in my meal. Meat is poor quality and waitstaff resembled used car salesman trying to up charge the bill. Offered us rice as if it came with our meal only to find out it was $6.99 extra once my bill came. Grillers burned all our food, but put on a nice show. I didn't have high expectations considering it is a chain, but for $50 bucks I expect my food to be edible.

If I could give this place no stars I would. This is very dirty restaurant. We watched them putting fresh food on top of old. They are not rotating beans should be green not brown. Needless to say I got a case of food poisoning last night. My other half called corporate office left a message, boy they sure called back right away. We were told the store owner would call us back. We are still waiting. I will never go back there.

I like BD's. I remember going all of the time in college and I love all of the different options they have to choose from. Since I live in Miami now, on a recent trip to Michigan, I suggested we go here for lunch. It was a weekday and not busy at all (which was a good thing for us). For $11 we got soup and salad bar, and unlimited bowls. My toddler's bowl was free :-) Also, they let you take home leftovers!!! What, at a buffet?!?! Yes! So basically you can make one final bowl and take it home! All of the veggies/meat were very fresh, I always get the steak and it is very good and tender. I think for the price/quality/quantity it is an excellent choice for a nice lunch. Lastly, the service was excellent. From the cooks, to the servers, to the managers everybody was super friendly and accommodating, always asking if we needed anything or providing recommendations. And don't forget, kids under 4 eat FREE!

This place is so disgusting! My sister and I went in for a visit on Sunday, August 19, 2012 and there was food all over the floor, table, and it had an odor. The tongs for the vegetables were so filthy/sticky that I abruptly left and headed down the street to Olive Garden. There was NO WAY we could eat in this restaurant! The management teams should be embarrassed. I will never visit there again.

This is the Yelp equivalent of dropping to my knees in surrender. It's a freakin' CHAIN, the cook guys chant and kibbitz for tips while sweating their cojones off over the grill, the waitstaff does little to hide the fact that they'd rather be texting their boyfriends, but damn it... I LOVE it!! Gimme a tofu and krab combo loaded with peanut sauce and veggies! Love the brown rice option! The hypnotic way they toss your dinner bits around on the grill...the sneaky, giggly feeling as I pour many ladles of sauce in the bowl instead of the requisite one...I give up. A flavor secret is to add one egg to the dish. I'm not a big egg lover at all..it just intensifies the flavors so much! Unexpected goodness, though the different locations are pretty interchangeable.

3.25 Stars (1/4 star improvement) Back again. Pros: There are a lot of workers running around like chickens w/ their heads cut off working hard at the grill, the bar and the kitchen area. Beer is fresh tasting like before, believe it or not fresh tasting beer is not the norm I have experienced at most places. Cons: With that being said, why is the silverware so sadly wet, spotted, kind of dirty looking and in short supply at the soup and salad bar? Calamari was hard as a rubber band. I wish I was a master bowl stacker and stir fry expert like some of the other customers... btw I don't get why some people go to this place if they are going to just get a bowl of noodles and chicken w/ nothing else.

One of my favorite restaurants. Servers and grilles are always fast and friendly. The food choices always appear fresh and they clearly mark vegan and gluten free sauces as well as the heat/spice level for people with special diets and tastes.

My Mother and I went here during a day of shopping. She had not had Mongolian BBQ prior to this experience. I have had it several times. I was very surprised to see that this was a chain. Coming from California, I had not been to a Mongolian BBQ chain. They are usually family owned/small business. The menu here is extensive with several items that have nothing to do with Mongolian BBQ. What a great idea to have something for everyone. The service was OK. I was a little disappointed that they limit the items you can put in your bowl. My prior experience has always been that if you can fit it in the bowl then you can have it. After, you place you items in the bowl, you take it to the cook and have it cooked on the grill. Unfortunately, I was in line with several other people and my food was slightly over cooked. My mother was disappointed with the food and will not go back. I, however, think this is a great idea for a chain and would like to experience it again as long as they promise not to over cook my food.
