First time going the The Gallery and I will definitely be back! The brew pub was filled with featured local artwork which made for a great atmosphere. They also had live music which was fantastic! The food was excellent and so was the beer. Being a vegetarian, I was very impressed with the wide variety of tasty options. I had the hummus and flatbread, I would recommend that! The beer was great! The service was even better! My husband and I had Jeremy as our server/bartender and he was very knowledgeable about the beer! Love this place! It is a total gem in Portland!

The Gallery Brewery has a welcoming atmosphere (with rotating art from local artist), and very friendly staff. I've become a frequent customer, bringing friends from Lansing, as well as meeting up with friends coming from the Grand Rapids area, it a great mid-point gathering place! I've greatly enjoyed getting and sharing many of the food options available, not only delicious, but it's not the typical "fried food" found at most bars which I greatly appreciate. I'm new to the micro beer scene, so not much of a connoisseur, but have enjoyed the Gothic Golden, the Baroque Brown, as well as some of the seasonal offerings. My friends have really liked their IPA. The Gallery Brewery is a great addition to the downtown Portland area. We will happily return again and again.

I tend to give new brewpubs a chance and don't write reviews if I don't like them. But seeing how defensive the owner was to a review I thought I would back the reviewer. I tasted sort of a detergent taste which I assume had nothing to do with the glass. Just an off flavor for me. This brewery and Eagle Monk are my least favorite in Michigan

Update: 5/9/15 ish. Much improved! The beer is vastly improved. Did not try the food. The SO and I had three different pints and all were OK. The bad flavor issues seem to have been fixed. ------------------------------------------------------- Stay home! The beer ranks near the bottom of the 100+ breweries I've been to. It's rare for me to leave beer on the table, but I switched to water after a few sips. Soap flavors dominate. The place is new, hopefully the brewer will figure out how to work the system. What they're serving should have been dumped. Meanwhile; the service was awful, and the food mediocre. Will NOT be back any time soon.

It's not often that a brewery serves both good beer and good food. Usually one overshadows the other. The Gallery manages to do both well. From the moment we walked in we felt welcome by the staff. One of the owners Rush came over to thank us for coming and told us about the art that was on display (they feature local artists and musicians). The food prices are excellent for the amount of food you get and while I only tried one beer (a spiced dark better - name escapes me right now) it was excellent. The tofu tacos were spicy and fresh as was were my husband's gyros. My daughter's chicken strips were clearly made there and not from a box. We can't wait to come back - just wish it was closer to home so we can sample lots of beers at a time! :)

What a cute, fun place to spend a Friday evening. Loved the tortilla soup while my husband said the beef brisket was the best he has ever had. He liked the beer so much he got some to go. Super reasonable prices, staff was friendly and food was quick. Well worth the drive from Okemos/ Lansing area. We will be back!!

The beer is good and theyre always trying new things with it so its evolving all of the time. If you get hungry while drinking your beer they offer food thats wonderful as well. Plus if you're in portland it's your best choice hands down.

I generally drink wine, but after tasting several of the beers at the Gallery Brewery, I have decided that exploring craft beers is definitely worthwhile. I enjoyed the Gothic Golden and have been pleasantly surprised with some of the darker beers. The food I had was great. I love the live entertainment and the friendly atmosphere. Will surely return!

The Gallery is a nice new brew pub in Portland MI. They have a great beer selection and friendly staff. The food is very good too. It's nice to see an establishment that takes pride in creating interesting and great tasting menu items. Jeremy was our bar tender/server at our last visit and he was great! He recommended the perfect beer to pair with our meal and we enjoyed talking to him. I noticed a few negative reviews about this place. My response to them is that this is a NEW brewery and they are constantly working to improve their beers. So give them a try and it will be well worth your time. My family and i will for sure be back.

First time visit on a weekend evening. I had my fingers crossed for a great new establishment in Portland, but this new brewery has some work left to do. What I liked: The beer - we sampled several; I always appreciate the availability of flights when checking out a new place. They had a good variety - nothing too daring, but the beers were solid, and I could see coming back for a pint or two. I also liked the live music - a male duo performing covers at a comfortable volume where you could still have a conversation. Service was fine - staff seemed friendlier than management. Of my food, I really liked the cole slaw, that's about it. What I didn't like: The food. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, which comes with a vinegar-style barbecue sauce. Order pulled pork pretty much anywhere in Michigan and it'll come with a tomato-based sauce, but I usually enjoy the vinegar-based sauces too, so I was game. The sandwich was served on a yummy ciabatta roll, but there was so much sauce on the m eat that it had completely saturated the bread, making it a wet sticky mess. I tried to just eat the meat, but the sauce ruined it - it tasted like they'd just thrown some red pepper flakes in some vinegar and soaked the pork in it - you couldnt' taste the meat at all. For my two sides I tried cole slaw (really good) and the baked beans (not bad). Both were advertised as being spicy but neither one was. To wrap up - I'd go back to meet friends for a pint, maybe listen to some music, but I'd eat elsewhere (the pulled pork sandwich at Fabiano's River House down the street is delicious!).

First visit was disappointing! Food was an after thought and that is just a no no for me. Food highlights: Coleslaw, Ciabatta and the mustard barbecue were wonderful. But bread you buy shouldn't be your wow factor. We had the pulled pork and bbq brisket and they just weren't of good quality. Pork was soaked in vinegar bbq sauce, so you lost any chance to taste the pork. Brisket was just disappointing, hard to explain, but I would be surprised if they make it in house. Finally the mac n cheese was the worst I have ever had. They took macaroni noodles, shredded cheese and tossed it together and than put some cheese on top. You make a cheese sauce and you actually put salt and pepper on it. The Beers were the highlight of the evening. They were good, not unique or the best but I would go back for a beer. That being said, I don't go to an place just for a beer. Dinner and beers yes and this place falls short. We did the beer sampler and we liked the brown, porter and the shock spice. The mild tasted like water and the other 2 just weren't our style. They were done well, but just not for us. One last note. You are running a brewery with food, put some fries and onion rings on the menu. You want people to stay, small investments go a long ways. Decor and service were nice and the live band was very good.

Went in today. Owner not working. Blond lady there. Boroque brown was kind of flat tasting. I ordered the special french dip and asked to substitute the chips for hummus and pay the extra. I was told no. I don't care the cost, I don't eat chips so keep the chips and charge me for the hummus, strange huh? All I want is to buy the hummus and french dip and beer n more the heck on with my day. I think we make things more complicated than what they are. Don't wonder why you're not selling more, your customers are asking to buy your products and your waitress is telling them no. Wow.

I'm not much of a beer drinker but I gave this place a try. Was here celebrating a friends bday last Friday. I only ordered the "Gothic Golden," was not a fan. It tasted very smoky and not a pleasant smoky. Like if you were to lick a piece of used charcoal on a grill. A couple of the other people also agreed. Said it was undrinkable and they love beer. I don't know if it was at the bottom of the barrel or what, but this flavor can be thrown out. Switched to bud-light at the next bar to cover up the taste. The environment had a different feel then most bars in Portland. Our witness could have been a little more attentive or enthusiastic. Smile:D

As this was my first visit to the Gallery Brew Pub, I wasn't sure what to expect. I found that they had live music that night, as well as many nights. They also feature art from local artists, with nights that you are able to meet them. The place was in good condition and clean. As I am not a big beer connoisseur, I don't have much of an opinion of their craft beer, however I enjoyed the one that I had. The menu had some good items, however it seemed limited in the number of choices. The burger with chips was good. No fries though, but it's arguable whether this is good or bad. Overall after a slight delay in getting noticed, when I first sat down, I had a good experience. I would go back.

Had high hopes after hearing this was the new brew pub in town but holy cow this place is awful. Mediocre food, slow service (our waitress sat down with some friends and we had to go to the bar to get our check) and AWFUL beer. Two out of the flight of 6 were good, the rest had very weird flavors. Don't bother getting off the highway.
