The Lost Raven gets 5-stars for being 'Michigancentric' can't give them enough credit for that. This was my first visit, and overall I will for sure return. Food was good, well portioned and modestly priced for the quality. (We had an App, Salad, 2 burgers and 3 drinks=$65 before tip) Service and drinks still need a little fine tuning. Service was good but lacking in food knowledge and perhaps a little too eager to clear plates without interrupting the diners. The cocktails don't yet live up to the quality of spirits being used, but where there's a will there's a way. Plainwell has limited offerings like The Lost Raven, so that is working in their favor. I went with a friend. We were greeted quickly with a smile. It was only 4:30-5p and there were a few tables but a lot of staff. The open kitchen was nice, but in walking through the restaurant, which is fairly close quarters, only the host made eye contact and/or said 'hello.' There were 2 guys on the line and at least 6-7 servers/host/floor managers that we walked shoulder to shoulder past and not one made eye contact, smiled or was otherwise inviting. They were simply getting out of 'our way' as we were being sat which I can understand but it sets a tone. We sat outside, the patio is lovely, but it was a brisk July evening and they were very nice in accommodating us to move to an inside table. We were sat and quickly greeted by Sam. He was good, but seemed a little green as a server overall. I ordered a Manhattan with Traverse City Whiskey, I love that you get to pick from ALL Michigan spirits. The Manhattan was automatically served up, which was fine but not expected. Overall the cocktail was a little too sweet, so if you prefer be sure to ask for it light on the sweet vermouth. They also use a candied cherry. I asked the server what kind of cherry it was, who didn't know but turned to the bartender who told us it was a luxardo cherry. It was unique, tasted good on its own but only increased the sweet level... and I expected a Michigan cherry (it is michigan cherry season) from the Michigancentric place. I ended the dinner with their version of an Irish coffee with Valentine Whiskey. I was sitting by the bar and the bartender confirmed directly with me that I wanted the brown sugar with the whiskey muddled with coffee and layered with heavy cream. The drink was delivered in awkward glassware (forgivable but form over function is a problem)... the problem was it wasn't layered at all, and was delivered with the apologies coming from the bartender saying he 'only had half & half, not heavy cream' I drank it and it was fine but I'm sure they don't want guests to just say 'it's fine.' My friend has a glass of Michigan white... I don't recall which one. She asked if they had a moscato, but he didn't seem to know what moscato was, but she said she liked sweeter wines he recommended one for her and she liked that one. The Smoked Gouda Dip with bread small plate was delicious. Pronounced smoke flavored but NOT overwhelming at all. The charred ciabatta was good counterpoint. The only problem... we ran out of dip... it was that good! It'd be good to dip veggie in too if your gluten-free or just want something other than bread. The arugula & kale caesar was quite good. I am not a seasoned kale eater, and it wasn't too chewy. The balance of tender arugula with the kale was perfect. It was a good size side salad and dressed lightly. The dressing itself was pretty good, a little stronger flavor with the stronger flavored greens wouldn't have been bad. I ordered the Pomelo Burger and my friend ordered the Raven Burger. The burgers both came with a mountain of slaw. The slaw was good. My friend really loved the Raven Burger. It looked very juicy, juicier than the Pomelo. The Pomelo was just ok for me. It basically tasted like a meatball sandwich (not a bad thing at all) but the balance of meat to sauce to cheese was off for me. I would've wanted more sauce but that would make a very messy burger. A couple service notes: we weren't asked temps for our burgers, so I don't know if you can pick your temp or not. Both burgers that came to our table were medium-well. We were told you could order fries instead of slaw for an up-charge, which we forgot to ask for and our server didn't ask for the upsell. Like I said, we'll for sure be back. It's a nice addition to downtown Plainwell. I love the local focus, and am looking forward to them getting everything up to the same 'level' as it seems their sourcing is at.

The atmosphere was nice, small space but intimate. We did not sit on the patio but it looked really cute. The acoustics in the building were a bit loud. The tables were quite small for a 4-top but perfect for 2 people. We had 4 people in our party so we felt the table was small and cramped. The wait staff was attentive and others came to our table to check on us throughout the night. 3 people in our party ordered from the "plates" selection, the lamb, and 2 sirloins. The lamb was tender and overall excellent. The sirloin was very good but they pre-sliced the steak before serving which was different. Overall the food was wonderful!! Well worth the price! Only complaint is that the plates were extremely large for the table size and all our plates were touching and the table was cramped. We would totally go back.

Second visit, last night. Very busy, nice to see, service was great. Soup was good - a "gazpacho" of asparagus, cucumber and onion. Very refreshing. Smoked whitefish cakes still the hit. My daughter and I shared the cassoulet. Meat - sausage and duck - was very good, but overall dish very dry. This should be more like a stew, with liquid to sop up. Caesar salad had such bitter greens that we couldn't taste the dressing. Husband's "peachy pig" sandwich superb! Again, so glad they're open, some dishes work, some don't. We are totally supportive of them, and will continue to provide feedback, as I hope others do, also. BTW, the raven head made out of shredded tires does freak me out a little.....

I really tried to love you Lost Raven! We went back today and it was underwhelming yet again. From the drinks, to the service, nothing was quality. Food was again under seasoned and just ok. When I read the menu, I was excited. But then when the food arrived, was highly disappointed. Not to mention they were out of 3 items on the menu! It just seems like something is missing in all of the dishes. Also our service was pretty sad. We could see her texting while our drinks and food were already at the counter and waited forever.

We really enjoyed this place. This area really needs more exciting restaurants like The Lost Raven. The menu choices were wonderful and the prices were fantastic compared to what you'd pay in a bigger city. The pulled pork salad was perfect, as was the pulled pork sandwich. Our party split the chocolate pot d'creme for dessert and it was heaven. Can't wait to go back for more!!

Nice idea for a restaurant, nice atmosphere but mediocre execution. Bread was burned black and pasta was flavorless. Might stop for a beer, but certainly no food. Sorry Plainwell, I know you need a good restaurant but this wasn't as advertised.

Wow. Normally, poutine would not be something we would order but more than one person told us to get it. They were correct. It was worth every gravy dipped, gooey cheese curd bite. The rest of our meal was taste after taste of genuinely perfectly flavored food. We had the red eye chili, orchard grilled chicken salad and the raven burger. Don't skip the dessert! I'm so glad someone told us to get the vanilla toffee cheesecake. Oh my love of toffee...it was just divine. The service was friendly and attentive. Atmosphere is casual to dressy. Very clean, lots of light, great MI drink selections. We will be back!

Had a quick dinner there last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. The last time I was there it was Arie's London Grill and it was great back then so I was skeptical to try it but I'm glad we did. The menu was more than what you would expect from anywhere in Plainwell. There was a great selection of appetizers and burger/sandwich options and the entrees all sounded delicious. They also offered $3 wine specials and a $10 winter comfort menu with great options like a smoked jalapeno meatloaf with sweet potato puree and a pork belly cassoulet (my choice) that was absolutely delicious. We also ordered the Ravens burger. It was cooked perfectly with bacon, bleu cheese and dried cherries and served with housemade sweet potato fries. The atmosphere was casual but not neighborhood bar casual and the service was excellent. I would suggest this place above any other in the Plainwell/Otsego area.

Wonderful drinks. My favorite drink "zombie killer". Great environment to eat drink and visit with friends. I had the white fish po boy. I was disappointed it didn't come on po boy bread.

Went back again and was pretty disappointed. Slow service, and while I appreciate the effort, I'm still not impressed with the food. I'll stick with Four Roses, Maude's, or the new Salvinos. I likely won't go back, which is too bad because I love the idea of the place.

For the first time eating at The Lost Raven and after reading all the reviews, I have to say it was very disappointing, the food was not what I expected and the waitress was rude right from the beginning. First, if you like high-carb foods, fat and NO veggies then this is the eating place for you. I found it difficult to find something on the menu that contained an 1/8 cup of veggies besides ordering the $6.00 side salad. Secondly, most of the dishes described on the menu were really NOT the way they were being prepared. The three items I wanted, the waitress said "oh that's not how they are being prepared, we are changing our menu". Then why the hell didn't you update the menus to reflect this? Actually, the original preparations and seasonings sounded much better than what they were changing to. So, when I finally decided on the sautéed whitefish that came with sweet potato fries and pureed peas I thought well, I will get some veggies with a great pieces of fish. When asked if I could substitute the fries for anything else such as veggie the waitress responded "well, I don't think we can, I don't know what veggies we would have"! She wasn't even willing to accomodate me when asking that I would like a vegetable. The cod, which was prepared in a bag sounded good until I found out it was cooked in a bag with white pasta. In my opinion, this is overdoing it. Well, if one is trying to limit your carb intake this will not work either. Asking again, for a substitution, the answer was no. At that point, I just ordered the whitefish. The whitefish was pretty good except that it was encrusted in about a 1/4" of coating and it was square! Last time I fished in Michigan, I never caught a square fish! The sweet potato fries were very soggy since they placed them under the fish. And for the pureed peas, there was a dollop the size of a quarter! It was more of a garnish than a side dish. When my husband asked her where the peas where, she told him that he ate them! How rude of her to imply he ate them without knowing it. She didn't even offer to get him more peas. When one of the managers came over to ask how our meals were, we politely explained our opinion about the lack of veggies, the outdated menu and he basically didn't show much concern and walked away. Also, now don't get me wrong now, I like the fact that they are supporting Michigan farmers, wineries, breweries and such but when you have to pay $8.00 for Michigan-made whiskey when you can get Canadian whiskey that is better tasting and only costs $4.00, I will go for the better tasting and cheaper one. Don't understand why you have to pay more for something that is around the corner vs a product that tastes better and is half the cost from somewhere else. They were very arrogant about the fact that they only provided Michigan-made products. Sorry folks, I have to rate this restaurant "poor" due to being overpriced for what the food and service they provide Still, my favorite restaurant is the London Grill in Kalamazoo london-grill.com

My fiancé and I just had dinner here and it was excellent. The environment is very welcoming, the staff was friendly, and the food was superb. I had lamb shank and she had salmon. Both were cooked perfectly and we're very flavorful. The lamb comes from the chefs family farm and it was fall off the bone tender. Lastly, everything is made from local ingredients in an open kitchen. They also have a great selection of local beers and spirits. We will most definitely go back for another round, especially if they start serving brunch. Sorry for the bad picture, but it looked so good that I ate half before I thought to snap a photo :)

Love that this restaurant is Michigan centric! Seems to have a quality a Quality team including the cook and fresh ingredients, the problem with fresh ingredients is that it seems like they're always out of items on the menu. If they can get their inventory control better it would be a solid choice worth a 30 minute drive in the town of Plainwell! Still worth a visit and an opportunity if you support local business.

Loved this little place. Delicious food..wonderful service. Not a large menu but enough choices for everyone. I had the whitefish, my husband had the beef brisket, our friends had the chicken and roasted vegetables pasta. we covered the menu. all of it was to die for. Including dessert that we shared.. going back and can't wait.

The food, service and atmosphere are great! I love trying new things at The Lost Raven. Their reuben sandwich was delicious, and I loved the pub poutine as an appetizer. Looking forward to enjoying dinner on the patio as soon as it opens!

Went here after snowboarding at Bittersweet for dinner and drinks. I had a garlic shrimp special that was phenomenal and everyone else in our group enjoyed their dinner as well. Great low key spot with a good drink selection too.

Very delicious meal. I had the chicken dinner with roasted brussel sprouts and risotto. The chicken and brussel sprouts were great and the risotto was good but a bit under cooked. My boyfriend had the brisket and had nothing bad to say about it. Loved that the entire menu was from michigan including the drink choices, right down to the Faygo pop.

I went here on a Friday night about a half hour before they closed. I ordered the lamb shank. It came with smashed red potatoes and a beet salad with what I think was arugula. It was very very good. They have dozens of local beer and Michigan spirits. I had an artisan gin that was really good. This place is a little gem and, as far as I'm concerned, the only place to eat in this town Don't miss it.

My family and I had a wonderful time. We called ahead and were told they do not accept reservations but they were not busy at the time. We did not get on the road right away and there was a wait when we got there. We were able to procure seats at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable. We loved the selection of craft beers on draft. In fact, we got a flight or sampler of 4 beers to taste. The waitress came to get us when a table opened up. We were enjoying conversation with each other and the bartender so much I couldn't tell you how long we waited. Once we sat, the waitress described the menu. Since we were eating late (probably around 7:30/8pm), they no longer had some of the items on the menu, but again it did not seem to matter and everyone got something different. The food was amazing. I am typically a "meat and potatoes" person, but the awesome smells from the kitchen got me to try stuff I would otherwise overlook! Collectively, we dubbed the food "elevated comfort food". Overall, the experience was amazing between the service, food, and atmosphere. It also should be mentioned that just about everything they have is made from Michigan produce and all of the beer is brewed in Michigan. We were also told that everything is made from scratching, including the stock for their soup.

We have been to the Raven three times now and it is fast becoming our favorite place to eat. The service was great. The staff bent over backward to try and make sure that our dining experience was great. We have only eaten breakfast here and recently went for the mothers day brunch which by the way was to die for. We are big on breakfast and when we can say that this is on par with Food Dance in Kalamazoo or DeBoers Bakery In Holland..that is saying something.

The Lost Raven only serves Michigan beer, wine and liquor. The ingredients for their menu come from local farmers, Sarkozys Bakery, Bells Brewery and more! And the flavor is terrific. Every employee was friendly and helpful! I've tried The Raven Burger, Peachy Pig, The Cow Tipper, Smokey Bacon Gouda dip and my favorite so far was the Pomarola Burger! They just opened a couple days ago and it's a great addition to Plainwell.

Nice place for a brunch. We had the Summer Scramble and Fisherman's Benny. The Scramble had really great savory flavors with vegetables and fresh mozzarella cheese. The Benny was a fish cake on a bed of potatoes with poached eggs and mustard based hollandaise sauce. We sat inside but it looks like they also have outdoor seating. Hope to go back for dinner and take advantage of the put do seating before the weather turns. Service was attentive, timely, and not too intrusive.
