We ate here on our way through town because we wanted to try something new and the reviews looked OK. This place is delicious. Our server was fast and friendly, the coleslaw is the best I've had since I left Kentucky, the soup is delicious, the burrito was the size of my head, and the steak sandwich was delicious. OK, I didn't eat all this, but this is feedback from my boyfriend who ate with me and had most of this. I had a piece of pumpkin pie and he had carrot cake. I can't say they were the best pies I've tasted, but they were still well worth our time. I highly recommend this place. Oh and the inside of the restaurant was very neat and clean. No complaints here, other than needing a nap now from all the food.
Best place for dessert in this town!
I've been to Purtell's twice. On my first visit I ordered the hot turkey sandwich and received a plate COVERED in food. You couldn't tell where the mashed potatoes stopped and the turkey sandwich started, with a mound of stuffing wedged somewhere in the middle. Purtell's doesn't serve up gourmet anything but the food was still very tasty. The mashed potatoes reminded me of the one's they used to serve in the high school cafeteria (which I used to love); I think they may use flakes. Either way... Personally, I liked it. Couldn't eat all of it but I liked it. The service was just okay. I would have given it three stars based on that visit alone. A-OK! On my second visit I ordered a BLT and french fries. When I saw the waitress coming with our food i thought "HOLY CRAP! What is this? Another Tony's I-75?" That BLT was HUGE. The lettuce was more like a wedge rather than some leafs so I took off the lid and removed half of the lettuce. I didn't inspect the rest of the sandwich but after two bites I was noticing that it didn't have much of a bacon taste. Again, I took off the lid but this time I looked underneath the lettuce and found, sitting atop three slices of tomato, one full slice of bacon and two half slices. TWO slices, in total? Is that all? With all that lettuce and tomato? Even the bread was large. (By the way... the bread was DELICIOUS. Not sure if it was homemade but it was darn good.) Thinking the rest of the bacon must have migrated to the other side of my sandwich, I took a peek. I couldn't believe my eyes! TWO HALF-SLICES of bacon on one half of the sandwich. What? When I asked the waitress if I could please have a little bacon with my BLT I thought for sure she would think I was a liar. Who would believe there were only three slices of bacon on that entire GIANT sandwich? Well... She believed me because I was told they only put THREE slices on each sandwich. If you want more, you have to pay extra. :O WHAT?! After I inquired about the bacon our service seemed to get noticeably cooler, immediately. :/ Whatever. Based on this visit alone, I give Purtell's one star. I'm torn about my overall rating. The food is A-OK taste-wise. Portion-wise? Well... It seems like that depends on what you order. The service? Meh. I've experienced better. I split the difference and decided to give it two stars. Personally, with other places to choose from on our route home from camp... I won't be going back to Purtell's. Oh! Also... Each time we were there we walked in the door and stood there, without being acknowledged by ANYONE, long enough to start getting those should-I-just-stay-here-or-should-I-seat-myself and which-choice-makes-me-look-like-an-idiot feelings. So we just sat ourselves.

The atmosphere is friendly and down home. They have daily special which are not only tasty but reasonable as well. I enjoy the speed and quality of the food as well as the humorous atmosphere. Sundays they have a breakfast buffet that leaves me so full, I have to be rolled to my car. You can't go wrong!
I might have given them a fourth star but it always irritates me when a place doesn't give me a receipt. If I notice, I ask for one, but I didn't notice until much later I didn't have one. I went here for breakfast but didn't want a huge meal so I ordered one that just had two eggs and toast. I didn't need coffee since they provided that at the motel. The food was perfectly good. The ambiance wasn't real friendly, an important aspect to me, especially travelling alone. But if I got back to town I would eat here again I'm sure.
As a student at the neighboring high school, many students eat here during lunch. The staff is usually very friendly, but they are desperate and money hungry. One lunch time, my friends and I ordered our food, about half an hour later we still hadn't received our food. We decided to leave without paying, as why would we pay for something we didn't even get to see, let alone eat. The owner decided that it was the right thing to keep the rest of our friends at the restaurant, until we came back and got the food. They kept them until they were late for class, and the owner's wife threatened that she would "come after us" (three high school students), stormed out in a frenzy and came to our schools principal, emotionally stirred, crying, and blubbering. She reported that three of the students had "dined-n-dashed". She was mainly mad about the loss of money, but then she gave the rest of our friends free lunch(makes sense right?) ... So yeah... Kind of crazy.. I'm not going back there anymore.

We had the Chefs Salad and the Mandarin Orange Salad and both were great, but the Strawberry Shortcake was AMAZING! A must have every time you stop.
This is one of only a handful of places in town. Located right on M-13, this location is easy to access. They rotate their specials regularly and offer hefty portions. The menu seems to rather extensive and it worries me how they keep all their ingredients to cover it both in stock & fresh at the same time. The place is lived in but the servers are nice. Depending on the time of day, you can be in and out in about 40 minutes. There is nothing remarkable about this place but nothing dismal either. I think if you grew up going there, it's a mainstay for you but for newbies or passers through, it does just enough to get the job done. I'll probably never suggest going here but if I'm with a friend that wants to go, I won't turn it down.
I ordered the chicken ceaser salad, it was huge. It was very fresh and the flavors were wonderful. My friend ordered the chicken wrap and French fries. They really enjoyed their meal also. We decided to split a strawberry short cake on recommendation, from my sister, who raved about it. It was so good! The portion was huge. With two of us eating of it and didn't even finish it. I've also heard the baked good are incredible
