Pulled pork sandwich was so good. If only I still lived in Michigan. Will be coming back for sure.

Quaint, nice atmosphere. Pulled Pork, corn bread, cole slaw and blue berry baked beans were all awesome!

The BBQ is awesome. Doesn't matter if you like beef, chicken, or pork - it's all excellent. The brisket is cooked to perfection, with a thick and flavorful smoke ring. Potatoe salad is the perfect side to barbecue IMHO, and their potatoe salad tastes exactly like my grandma's potatoe salad. Their sauce is also awesome. Which is reflective of the care and thought that goes into the quality of the food they serve.

I found this place and I love it. Great brisket and friendly people. I will be going again.

I used to really like the beef brisket here. Unfortunately, the last two times that I have had take out here, the meat was excessively fatty. I mean it was so fatty, that it had the consistency of firm jello. I probably won't be back for a very long time. I hope the quality of the meat will improve. Brisket is an expensive purchase; worth paying extra for better quality meat. The meat that we had was not worth the time invested in smoking it.

Mostly carryout apparently although they do have a small seating area with 5 2 tops and one 4 top

Hands down the best BBQ in the "area". By area, I am referring to the greater Ann Arbor, Brighton, & Dexter/Pinckney area. I have had several, and only continue to frequent (about once every couple of weeks) Boogie Woogie. Prices are fair for quality BBQ, the sides are homemade (mac 'n cheese is made to order), and never disappoint. If you like spice, check out their Texas HOT BBQ Sauce-- it is spicy and flavorful! Great Job Boogie Woogie, can't wait for my next plate of brisket & pulled pork!

Went to Chef Chris' on the way home from the Ren Fair and found a lot to like about this BBQ joint. It's a small place out on M-36 just east of Pinckney in a strip mall complete with smoker right out front in the parking lot. I had the brisket plate, added a smoked sausage, and had baked beans as my side and cornbread that came with it. I thought the meat had a good amount of smoky flavor and the brisket was fork tender, very tasty! The sausage had a nice snappy skin and had a nice flavor, not hot or peppery, just a good sausage. The corn bread was good, needed no butter and had corn kernels in it. The baked beans were fine, just not my thing with blueberries baked in them. I picked out the blueberries and it seemed more like your traditional beans. Order at the counter and then come up and grab your food when its ready. Service was quick and we were eating withing a few minutes. All around a very nice bbq joint that would certainly return to!!

This place blows me out of the water every time! We live in Chelsea, but drive to Pinckney to eat here. It far surpasses the bbq places in both Chelsea and Dexter. I order the simple pulled pork plate-- pulled pork, one side and corn bread. No, it's not cheap, but that's because you are paying for quality food. The location seems odd for such a gem of a restaurant, but I'm so glad it's there!

This is the best food in the area. REAL FOOD people... not some warmed over GFS freeze dried deep fried trash that will bust your gut and empty your wallet... this is man food. People food. Food for people who like food. Who like flavor, substance, authenticity. This place is in another league, and probably too good for most of the hillbillies who live nearby. But for us selective few, its an oasis of deliciousness in a food desert.

I come here every time (really multiple times) I am in town visiting family. I always get the pulled pork sandwich with the spicy sauce and slaw. It never disappoints. I also really enjoy the red beans and rice, mac and cheese and the sweet potato casserole. So glad this business lasted as many have turned over in this plaza. See you in July!

I went here after a recent Michigan game as I grew up in the area. The service was fantastic and the food absolutely delicious. I tried the sampler in order to try everything and it is a meal for 2-3 people. I had the leftovers wrapped up and took them with me. Really good ribs and sausage and the sauces they provide are very tasty. When I'm back home I'll return for sure!! (Isn't this considered Lakeland as that is the tiny village (is it that big?) between Hamburg and Pinckney on M-36. At least it was when I lived there.

My quest for barbeque nirvana led me to Pinckney. I truly wanted to love this place. But truth is, I don't. Not on this visit anyway. Yes, the smoker is ablaze in the parking lot giving confirmation of true smoke cooked meats. Which is a plus in my book. The inside of this strip mall restaurant is small and quaint. Walls adorned with blues memorabelia giving hint to the owner's other passion and pursuit. I ordered the variety plate with two sides. The rib tips and beef brisket I would not order again. The chicken I found to be moist and flavorful. The pulled pork was on the chewy side, but very flavorful. All the sauces were excellent. Not certain if these are available to purchase as stand alones. My side of collard greens was very good and chock full of meat bits. The mac and cheese I did not care for at all. The sauce was way too creamy for me. Cornbread was tasty but a bit dry and crumbley. I will most likely give it another go. But will try the spareribs next time.

Tried this place for the first time tonight after finding it here on Yelp. We were not disappointed. The brisket and pork were smoked perfectly. The Mac-n-cheese and corn bread were both very good as well. We will definitely be returning here many times in the future.

I stopped by Boogie Woogie BBQ on a Friday evening to check out another one of the few places in SE Michigan that actually smokes their barbecue...the way real barbecue is made. The fires were still smoldering in the smoker in the parking lot, which like the previous reviewer said...it's a good sign. I got their rib sampler which contained a little bit of everything. Three ribs, brisket, pulled pork, and a piece of chicken with one side and a nice chunk of cornbread. With a can of coke, this came to about $20. A nice cross section of barbecue, but a bit steep for a smaller, out of the way place. Everything was served in a styrofoam take out container with your choice of three sauces. I chose the hot Texas style sauce. Very tasty. The beef brisket was juicy, tender and smokey. Very 'fall apart', which I like just fine. The pulled pork was nicely porky with a bit less smoke taste, which is to be expected. The chicken was a very small piece but also tasty and tender. Sadly, the ribs seemed to have been waiting around too long for me to get there. They were very dried out, and in a couple areas, inedible. Ribs are hard to keep moist I know, but these were a bit over the edge. The Mac and cheese I ordered as my side was tasty and served in a large portion. I actually would have gone with a smaller portion of two sides if I could have, for some variety. I easily finished everything, which I suppose I didn't expect to be able to do when sampling almost everything. In the end, I give Boogie Woogie lots of points for actually earning the name BBQ, by slow smoking their meats, having a good rub and sauces, and giving you the choice as to how you want all of that served. I do recommend the place, but there's room for improvement. The system for the ribs just isn't working, and I can't recommend them. A pulled pork sandwich or brisket on their own for a lunch would probably be stellar. If you're in the area, or live nearby, Boogie Woogie is a great resource for a bit of the real deal. Tasty.

I really love this place. Having grown up in Texas, i often crave some great BBQ, and this place has it! I have been maybe 4 or 5 times and i usually get the same thing: The Rib tip special. Its usually around $5 and is a great deal (they always have good lunch specials written on their dry-erase board). I almost always pair it with their spicy Texas sauce. Also try their sandwiches they serves them on these amazing rolls. This place has amazing BBQ I probably eaten at 50+ BBQ places in my life and this ranks with the best. The only reason it didn't get a 5 is because of the drink options, there is no soda fountain, only cans and some not very good ice tea. So by a large drink at the gas station on the corner and go to Chef Chris' for amazing BBQ!!

The good: All of the sauces were outstanding. The sausage was good. The chicken was cooked perfectly juicy (I almost never order breast meat because most places can't get this right) and the ribs were very good as well. The potato salad was outstanding. The meh: The pulled pork was just okay. Not a huge fan of the red beans and rice side. The corbread tasted great but was a bit dry, in my opinion. The bad. The brisket was dry and overcooked. The ugly: The woman working the counter was incredibly surly and unhelpful. As a first-time goer I tried asking for advice/tips/guidance and she gave me none whatsoever. I drove 20 minutes from Whitmore Lake to get to this place. Probably won't do it again. It's another 5 minutes to get to Red Rock in Ypsi, where the food is just as good (if not better) and the service is light years ahead.

I thought $10 rather pricey for a lunch sandwich. The Mississippi Rueben (sic) turned out to be large, hot, and messy with plenty of filling. The pulled pork was moist and tender, not greasy. Hurrah! However, I could not detect any smokiness in the flavor although the shop smelled enticingly smoky. Boo! In fact, there wasn't much flavor at all until I added both salt (!) and sauce to the sandwich, because the crunchy cole slaw also provided more texture than taste. Since this was my first visit, I sampled all four sauces. I liked the Memphis sauce best on this sandwich. The funky down-home atmosphere of the restaurant goes with the menu. They do need to clean up some of the overlying grunge though. I will go back to try some of the other dishes.

Only the best restaurants can receive 5 stars, 4 stars is really good for this small carry out. Chef Chris makes everything on the menu down to the sauces. And, he is very good at what he does in the kitchen and smoker. Brisket melts in your mouth. Gumbo, Red Beans and Rice, and Jambalaya are spot on. If he was located in a big city the place would be iconic. I have taken many people here and never a single disappointed guest. The smoked chicken sandwich with cheddar and peppered bacon is awesome. His hot BBQ sauce is flat out out of this world. I work hard for my money and this place works hard to create great tasting food. A perfect match.

The sauce on the BBQ pulled pork is amazing! Next time I go, I will ask which one it is. Also had the Macaroni and Cheese and the Cornbread. The Mac and Cheese was deceptive. I took one bite and was like, 'meh', but then I took a few more bites and I was hooked. Very creamy and peppery. Yummy! The cornbread is really good, too. It is sweet and has real corn in it. Very moist as well. People were coming and going getting their take out, so that was a good sign. Will be back soon to try the ribs and more sides!

I love this place! It's fanfastic! Downhome good. I love BBQ w/ rub & sauce on the side. Everything I've tried soo far is deliciousness! They need to be featured on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. Comfort food. It makes me happy to eat there.

If you live in the AA area like myself, and find yourself in need of BBQ, but don't want to drive an hour for the good stuff, go check out Boogie Woogie BBQ. First impressions mean alot, and especially when trying out a new place. First impression of Boogie Woogie, this is awesome. The smoker is proudly placed outside in the parking lot for all to see when you pull up. Its located nustled inside a small strip mall, but that doesn't take away from the ambiance of the place. When I first walked it, I could smell that delicious aroma of smoked meat. It was literally mouthwatering. I looked over to the my partner in crime and just said, "damn". The meal I have to say was sort of inconsistent. I chose to get the full plate of pulled pork and brisket, with a side of mac n' cheese. The mac n' cheese was by the far the star of the meal, boy was it tasty. The brisket was good, but I got a few pieces which were exceedingly chewy; it was kind of a turn off. The meat itself though was pretty smokey, which is a big plus. Some of the other pieces of brisket I had mixed in with my plate were succulent, smokey, and tender, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and saying I just got a bad couple pieces. The pork was texturally and visually awesome. It was tender and moist, the looked as though you could see that beautiful red smoke ring in some of the pieces of pork. Unfortunately, I didn't taste one bit of smoke in any of my pork. I was kind of shocked. I tried and tried and tried, but just couldn't really taste any. The red tint of the meat I thought was a sure sign of how smokey it would be, but I couldn't taste it :( Once again, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say I just got a bad piece. The cornbread was good; I don't claim to be a pronounced cornbread aficionado, so maybe my review of the cornbread is understated. BIG bonus points for making their own sauce, which was the co-star of the show. If I recall they had about half a dozen homemade sauces. To sum this place up, I will definitely be back. If I could get consistent and tender brisket, and smokier pulled pork, it would just about be on the same level as Beale St. Smokehouse. If you're in the area, make that even in the vicinity as Boogie Woogie, I would definitely stop by and check it out for yourself.

Eat their brisket. Smoked to perfection, buttery tender, deliciously sauced. Heavenly, I have done Carolina, Tennessee and St Louis BBQ--Chef Chris' pig is wonderful and stands up to any I've tasted. Divine. Great sides. Corn bread tastes of corn, not sugar. The mac and cheese is worth a a trip on its own, Good greens. Grand. I stop in whenever I am in the state of Michigan, and have even thought of going out just for a que-fix.

Without a doubt the best smoked meat ever. Top it with one of Chef's homemade sauces!! Not sure what the others expected..hard to believe they didn't enjoy this awesome "smokey" meat. Keep up the good work.

At first, I was hesitant to check out Chef Chris' Boogie Woogie BBQ in Pinckney, MI right off of M-36. The reason, is that the chicken place that was in that same location, prior to Chef Chris' arrival, was extremely unsatisfactory. I knew I needed to give the new guy a try but dragged my feet. I would drive by with curiosity, yet never went in. Then one afternoon, that all changed. I was at the local Kroger across the street and down the block a bit from Chris'. I was putting my groceries in the car and BOOM it hit me! The most amazing fragrance tickled my senses and captivated my nose. It was the incredible BBQ aroma coming from Chef Chris'. This guy Chris, the dedicated and just about always-there-owner, is really, really into BBQ and has a smoker (if that is the right name for it) outside in front of his restaurant. I have not spent much time in the south, but I do know good-down home-cooking! Chef Chris' BBQ smoker called and I answered. The incredible smokey smells delivered me right to his door, and in a hurry! I ordered a chicken breast, which happened to be the best and largest one of my life. The variety of homemade BBQ sauces are to die for! Besides the chicken being tasty and succulent, my potato salad (that I had on the side) was out of this world and those flavors coming together...AMAZING! I love going to Chef Chris' Boogie Woogie BBQ so much that I am bringing other people and trying to let everybody know how great it is. I've had a work party there. They set up a picnic table with a parasol outside for us. My husband flipped when he had their pulled pork sandwich and raves about their red beans and rice. We have Chef Chris' BBQ on speed dial on my cell phone. We even talk about Chef Chris' food when we are not there! We are addicts! You must give Chef Chris the chance to impress you with his culinary skills and believe me he will! This guy is dynamite and really knows what he is doing. Every time I am there, I feel like I am at an amazing down-home- BBQ. I give Chef Chris and his dedicated family and staff a big thumbs up! ...as if you couldn't tell... Whether you are riding your motorcycle down M-36 or catching the most seductive aroma at Kroger...give them a try and enjoy some of the best BBQ you will ever have. They have easy take-out and cozy atmosphere seating. Now they even have homemade pecan pie, I have not tried it yet, one more thing for me to dream about! Support your local Michigan businesses! We vote with our dollars.

Just catered our labor day party from here, without trying the food first. Crazy idea, but they had the best (non-commercial) food and price combination I could find. We drove from Grand Blanc (about an hour away) to get the food. I was all ready exactly on time, piping hot, packaged wonderfully. EVERYONE at the party kept commenting on the bbq, it was quite a treat for all. The sauces allowed everyone to spice it up as much as they wanted. My favorite was the Texas Hot. We got the brisket, bbq chicken pieces and breasts, ribs, mac n cheese, slaw, jambalaya, red bean and rice, and incredible buns!!!. You will not regret this place, our party was about 50-60 people.

I LOVE this place! Best BBQ around! I'm picky about my BBQ and this place really knows how to cook up some amazing pulled pork! I've had the pulled pork sandwich with the sweet and smokey sauce and the Mississippi Rueben, both were DE-LISH! It's a small, family owned place and a great spot in the area since there are no other BBQ places around. great to dine-in or take-out; It's always a treat!!
