Wow, Hamtramck has nothing on this place! First off, we were blown away by the customer service. I called at 6:40 to see what time they closed (7:00pm). I got their voice mail stating their hours, hung up, and said to my husband, "Well I guess we're eating there tomorrow night instead." About 5 minutes later I received a call back from them. The man said he saw he had a missed call. I told him that I was calling for their hours, heard that they close in a few minutes, and will come in the next day for dinner. He said, "Oh you can come in now. We just had a large party put their order in for dinner so we'll be here for a while." My husband and I walked in a 7:05 and were greeted by this same friendly person. My husband and I each had the polish sampler--pierogies, kielbasa, and stuffed cabbage. Oh my goodness, it was delicious! It's the best Polish food I've ever had. We finished with crepes for dessert. Again, delicious! We got a raspberry one and a cream cheese one. A little bit of each together was heavenly. The decor doesn't scream "fine dining" but their food is awesome. I just wished we lived closer so I could bring some of their frozen pierogies home with us. I'm afraid they wouldn't make it.

Great customer service and great food! We had the dog so we sat outside. They brought out a water dish and we enjoyed the beautiful day with the lake in the distance. We all really liked the food. I had the Kielbasa on a Ciabatta bun. Definately get the super hot mustard! It's not that hot and it was delicious. See the photo I posted. Great perogies too. Food was so good I thought I was back home on Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago.

Loved the food and the service was great; Must try the pierogi sampler.

My family and I had the pierogies and a few of the soups. The potato and farmers cheese pierogies were great, they had flavor and weren't dry. While I didn't have the soups, from what I heard from my family, they were very good. Overall, the dishes stood out with flavor and depth, and I would definitely return to this small joint in Petosky.

Great chicken noodle soup. Great perogies. We'll be back again!

So I had the honor to dine at the location in Harbor Springs. I was excited to see they have another location. It's truly home cooking, Polish authentic to be exact. It was our best meal in Michigan and yeah I am biased being that I am a Polish Princess

This place is a gem! We were visiting from out of town and decided to go here. Our group consisted of 7 kids and 6 adults. There was something for everyone to enjoy. The prices were very reasonable (for the amount of food we got, I would even say the meals are cheap BUT high quality). All of the kids got the dumplings plate and loved it. Each of the adults ordered some variety of Pirogi, potato pancakes, Golumpki, and soup (the Zurek was delicious). We were brought some bread to much on while we waited. With a group this large and with so many young kids, I was concerned that it would take a while to get our food, however, that was not the case. We had enough time for some chit chat and all of our food arrived. One of the best Polish meals I've had. Well worth it!!

I'm not Polish, so I can't say "oh, yes, truly authentic and all that," but I can't say sour rye soup is exactly American. There's a range of traditional Polish fare, some non-Polish mixed in, and of course plenty of pierogies. I sampled several items, and loved it so much that I added dessert. There's apple cake (dense and generous portion) and Polish crepes, which are a little heavier than French crepes and filled with fresh fruit. So glad I picked this place out of the range in downtown Petoskey. The guy at the desk is also very friendly and I enjoyed chatting with him. All you other reviewers steered me right!

My husband and I are big fans of this place. Since we are both Polish, we both grew up eating pierogies and stuffed cabbage made by our Polish grandmothers The last two times we went up north, we have dined at the Legg's Inn. Each time we had to wait 2 hours. We were very pleasantly surprised when someone told us about the Polish Kitchen in Petoskey. There was no wait and the food was even better than Legg's Inn. The prices were so reasonable that we are making a special trip back to Petoskey to buy several dozen pierogies to have for our traditional Polish Christmas Eve dinner! Our grandmothers are no longer alive but our Polish mothers gave it their full approval!

I've past by this place many times and finally decided to try it. It did not disappoint!!! Food was hearty and delicious. Service was fast and friendly. Prices were very reasonable for portion sizes! The kielbasa and pierogis were our favorites. Especially the kielbasa... Very impressed by this little place, and will make it a part of our up north traditions!!

  • Apu B.

Average food...pretty much the same quality as all the restaurants up here but is very inexpensive. Stick with the kielbasa and mushroom topped veggie crepe...both very tasty. The cabbage roll just did not taste good to any of us and seemed to be topped with condenses tomato soup. Z

Great food & friendly service. Found it on Yelp an I would highly recommend Polish Kitchen. Perogie sampler and the potato pancakes were both excellent. We came in just before closing and never felt rushed to leave. In fact hey continued to seat customers right up to closing offering a customer service experience you don't find often.

We were going to Petosky and planning on eating at our usual spot; my daughter went on Yelp and found the Polish Kitchen, what a find!! We are Italian, so Polish food is a real treat and this was the real thing!! The owner, was sooooo nice and his wife does the cooking. I felt like I was at someone's house, not a restaurant. We ordered the sample platter along with 3 other entrees and of course had way too much food, but brought it home and had it for lunch the next day (just as good). We also had the crepes and apple cake which in itself would be worth the trip!! I actually got a Yelp account just so I could write a review for this restaurant. If you are going to Petosky or Harbor Springs, go hungry and eat at the Polish Kitchen; you won't be disappointed!! A++++++

I can't say enough good things about this gem. Service was great. The food - way above average. We'll be regulars from now on!

Yum yum yum! I ran out of room before I could taste everything I wanted to. Don't miss the crepes or the potato pancakes or the Reuben or the borst. Just go. Loads of parking, great for families, your grandma or just feeling sentimental.

  • Michael S.

I went here for the first time based on all the great Yelp reviews and this place did not disappoint. This is the best Polish food outside of grandma's and Hamtramck cooking. I ordered the King Sampler. Talk about a ton of food. For $15 I had enough for dinner and have plenty left for lunch tomorrow. Definitely could share a meal as a couple. They were also nice enough to swap a Pasty for a stuffed cabbage at no extra cost. Great service. I will definitely stop come back here when I'm in Petoskey.

My husband and I were walking the streets of downtown Petoskey on a Friday afternoon and looking for a quick place to just munch on something, but not eat a full dinner. As I am a Polish girl I noticed the Polish Kitchen and had to stop in and try it out. The place is quaint with a couple dining tables and 4 or so booths. The place was clean and welcoming. We walked in and we were not sure what to do or to sit down. However, right away the server greeted us and explained that we can sit down and to take a menu. He said when we know what we want to come back up to the register and order. I appreciated being waited on immediately and being told where to go; also it was in a polite welcoming way. We split the "Polish Platter" and I wish I got my own! I could've ate everything myself. The portion wasn't very large and I wish there was more, but the quality and taste was excellent. You get to try a little bit of everything such as one smoked kielbasa, sauerkraut, six pierogi topped with onions, bacon and sour cream on the side; one golabki with tomato sauce. We got 3 cheese pierogi and then 3 cheddar cheese/potato pierogi. The food came out fast and hot. They also knew we were splitting the dish so they gave us an extra plate which was thoughtful. There were signs by the fountain pop station to take your plates and clean after yourself - it said this helps keep cost down. However, when we went up to clean our plates one of the servers took them anyways, so that was nice.

I will echo everything positive that has been written about Polish Kitchen. Great food, good prices, clean and well maintained, too. Very pleasant staff. I cant vouch for authenticity but I know my Mothers cabbage rolls were Americanized and tasted nothing like these, which were great. Even the bread reminded me of some of the better European loaves I've tasted. It's a very good meal and great value in a nice setting. What more could you want?

The Polish Kitchen is awesome. I'm not one to often give 5 stars to a place, but for what it is, PK deserves it. The decor isn't fancy but the place is clean and cared for. Just come in, order your food from the very helpful cashier, have a seat and wait for it to be brought out to you. Straightforward, simple. My wife and I ate there with another couple for lunch. We split the large sampler platter so we could try a bit of everything. All the polish food was really good, from the soup to pierogies to cabbage roll to smoked sausage to desert crepes. We've had good, traditional polish food before and it rates up there as some of the best we've tried. The couple with us was also quite happy with their meals. For what we got I found the prices quite fair, especially during the tourist season. We'll be coming back for sure!

Another 5-star rating yet I felt compelled to add my two cents. I haven't had good Polish food since my grandmother passed 25 years ago. This place is as authentic as it gets. The City Chicken (it's pork) was awesome. We sampled both styles of stuffed cabbage and each were delicious. The Kielbasa sandwich beats any other sandwich around. I live 70 miles away but I'll be coming back until I taste everything on the menu and then I'll return just for my favorites. Wow!

Wonderful- an ethnic adventure with real polish food. The place looks a little bit like a dive but it is clean, friendly, fast and oh so delicious- and that's what matters- try to polish plate- it has all their main dishes so you can try everything. Will come back again

This place is outstanding. It's a little place and nothing fancy but the polish food is yummy and the service was fab. Pierogis were delish. Love stuffed cabbage and that was yum too. Definitely worth a stop.

Wife and I stopped here while strolling through Petoskey. The outdoor eating area was dog friendly and we had the pups with us so we gave it a try. Rueben was excellent! Reasonable prices and fast preparation. Would stop again.

AMAZING food at a good price! Perfect place for lunch! I'd totally suggest getting a crêpe or two for dessert, they are to DIE for!

Great place that seems to get better with age. Few years ago we used to frequent them on Sunday nights, but as with most places downtown, they eventually started closing on Sundays so we couldn't go back anymore. After a couple years we were in the mood for some Polish food and it wasn't even a Sunday so we went. We had good timing it was a Saturday there were four of us and we were their first table, right before their dinner rush. Food came out great, same staff as before. Its a nice little place that'll give you good Polish food. You won't get wowed by the food or decor or anything, but if you're craving a good Goulash or Pierogi then this is the place to go. Our boys loved the potato dumplings, and we all enjoyed the different Pierogies and the Goulash. In the past I used to get their Sausage which was great.

Excellent homemade food. Great place to take the family. Fast and courteous service. Very affordable prices. Appreciate the change of pace from the chain restraints.

My family and I were very pleased to get a chance to visit this restaurant. We were visiting from out of town and heard from other family members that it is quite good; my wife has some Polish heritage and we have both always enjoyed Polish food so we made it a priority to drive from East Jordan and visit the Polish Kitchen. The place was not busy at all--I think there were 2-3 other tables, and some guys getting take-out. We had a group of 7 and the guy working behind the counter helped us push some tables together and make it work. We sat around for a while pondering our order and finally went up to place the orders. The guy was really nice, and answered questions about the menu items. The food was all fantastic! Among all of us there, we ordered several different types of pierogi and other offerings such as the sausage, potato pancakes, and cabbage roll. I didn't take a bite I didn't enjoy. I thought everything tasted fresh and authentic. One of my favorite aspects of Polish cuisine is that it's somewhat different everywhere you go. I chalk this up to different regions and different family recipes being handed down. The facility itself is pretty basic, but comfortable for eating and hanging out. You place your order at the counter, they bring it out, and you bus your own tables.

A great place, comfort food, a taste of home cooking! The prices are great for the quality and big portions!

Polish food as good as it gets. We were traveling throughout the area and found this and knew we had to stop since my wife and I both love Polish food. We both ordered the Polish sampler which had pirogues, Polish sausage, sauerkraut and cabbage roll. Absolutely delicious.

  • Timothy M.

Authentic recipes, freshly prepared. Dill soup as good or better than what I had in Warsaw in February! Another indicator: good choices of mustard. Family run, a real gem in Petoskey.

    (5)
  • Elias S.

The bread was stale the goulash was so so. Pirogues were bland and tasted like frozen ones pan seared. Was told the food would be fast as we were in a hurry but wasn't. Won't ever come back. Clean place though. I'll go to the Mexican place next door next time.

  • Lisa K.

The food is amazing. It's our kids' (ages 2 and 5) favorite restaurant! The owners are the KINDEST people you will ever meet. They are a sweet, Polish family doing what they love--sharing their food and culture. You will be glad you went.

  • Chris B.

Polish food is easy to screw up, so I was skeptical upon arrival. However, after sampling everything our group ordered, I was a fan! Damn fine Polish food. The dumplings and pierogi are legit. I've had better golabki, but these were better than average. The kielbasa is out of this world. Only negative was the chicken soup. Not close to homemade. In fact, it was just a cup of Mrs. Grass. Will definitely be back when we are in the area.

Phenomenal!! Wen there for lunch while in town for work and had the stuffed cabbage and the rueben periogi sandwich. Great price and the food was a fantastic.

  • Debbi B.

My first time at a Polish restaurant. Very good! My husband got the sampler so I could taste everything. Kielbasa and sauerkraut was really food! Potato pancakes yummy! Cabbage roll good, as was the stew. I has the goulash which was tasty, but a huge plate full and I couldn't finish. Would definitely return. You do order at the counter and clear your own table. The guy who took our order recommended the goulash for me as I was between 3 choices. Very good!

  • Jen L.

If you want delicious Polish food, look no further than this place! It's a small unassuming restaurant. You order at the counter, and they bring your food to you at your table. There's a handful of booths inside, and a few small tables out front. My family now finds excuses to head to Petoskey to eat here. The pierogis are cooked in onions and bacon upping the delicious factor. The golabki (stuffed cabbage) is also excellent. They have great lunch specials that are a nice amount of food at a good price. If you're hungry, go for the Pierogi Pizza Plate. It ups the delicious factor of pierogis smothering them in cheese, sauce, and meats. The food is so good, we no longer make the extra drive to Legs Inn.

    (5)
  • Caroline K.

Very delicious! I had the Italian pierogis with potatoes cheddar filling. They tasted fantastic and the potion size was large. My boyfriend had the ruben and did not like it. It lacked flavor and the meat was rubbery. For dessert we had a raspberry nutella crepe which was very delicious and a blueberry nutella crepe which was also very delicious and a chocolate cheesecake crepe which did not taste as good as the fruit filled ones.

  • Kelli B.

Walk in, order, take a seat. They bring the food out but you bus your own table. We came in cause I had seen they serve a reuben pierogi dish. It was good but I'd order the dressing on the side. The pierogies are fresh and full. If I lived in the area I'd go there again.

    (4)
  • Cheryl R.

Love, love, love this place! Dill pickle soup, and pierogis are my favorites. Staff is Polish, so they know what they're doing! I visit Polish Village Cafe in Hamtramck often, but I'm glad The Polish Kitchen is up here where I live!

  • B H.

My entire family LOVES the Polish Kitchen. We've been eating here regularly since they opened. The owner knows all of us by name and even knows what my son is going to order! Great food, friendly, warm people. Prices are very reasonable. Rafal keeps the prices down by staying low-budget on decorations, etc. You bus your own table and get your own drinks. Not fancy but such a friendly place. Be sure to save room for the Polish dessert crepes. Delicious!

  • David M.

We stopped here for lunch while traveling through the area. The good reviews are accurate. No frills, fast service, excellent food! If you enjoy authentic Polish food, you'll like this diner. We split a cabbage roll order (two large rolls) and a pierogi sampler plate. Rye bread came with the cabbage rolls. The shredded, pickled beet side order and iced tea completed the lunch. If we lived here, we'd be back often to try everything else on the menu!

10/8/12 Update to comment from Rafal B. Rafal you obviously didn't read my review correctly. Maybe you are lacking the understanding of the English language since you twisted my true experiences into untruths. Sorry but your Farmers cheese tasted old and did not taste authentic. I've never been to a polish restaurant that had to color code their pierogi to be able to separate them and know what filling was inside. Plus pastel pink and pastel mint green pierogi are unappetizing looking. Did you not learn the importance of presentation? My mother was 1st generation American. I have never eaten cheddar cheese pierogi why are you side tracking from my review? I know the difference from fresh soy bean oil and and old bitter tasting oil. Your potato pancakes were the worst I have ever had due to the old bitter tasting oil they were fried in. I know how to make fresh sauerkraut and yours did not taste fresh to my husband or me. Your sauerkraut had the taste like from a can not homemade. I know you are a small business in a small town but honestly NONE OF YOUR FOOD HAD THAT JUST MADE FRESH THAT DAY TASTE except the sausage was fresh tasting and quite good. When we visited you only had 2 other tables with customers at prime dinner time on a summer weekend. This was my honest experience just like all my other reviews. We really wish we had fresh tasting food but that was not our experience unfortunately. The reason for the 2 stars is not necessarily because of Polish regional differences it's because Number 1. YOUR FOOD DID NOT TASTE FRESH OVERALL! (Number 2. Cheap tasting ingredients lacking high quality taste). ---------------------------------------------------------- Wow really surprised at all the 5 stars. Totally disagree! First let me state that I was brought up in an ethnic area with about 6 different ethnicities. Polish was one of them. As a child and young teenager I ate authentic pierogi and polish food often. We would have ladies at the church I attended make them every week with authentic polish recipes in all flavors. We had Polish delis that sold them freshly made each day. I had to attend the Polish festivals our church had. My mom was part Polish (Swedish and German) and 1st generation American and knew how to cook authentic Polish food. The food we ate here was seriously just a-ok to meh. First off I ordered the Pierogi Sampler. The pierogi were very small. The cheese was not authentic tasting and there wasn't very much inside. The sauerkraut didn't taste fresh at all. Maybe it was canned? The pork was meh. Two of my pierogi were colored pink and green. Kinda strange. The potato pancakes were bitter and tasted like they were fried in old oil. Hubby ordered the Polish Platter and I shared it. The smoked kielbasa was very good. Actually the best thing we ate. The sauerkraut didn't taste homemade. More like from a can. The golabki (cabbage roll) was bland and flavorless. I could make them better as a teenager. The pierogi again had very little filling. Of the food we ate I would only recommend the smoked kielbasa. This is an order at the counter restaurant and get your own drinks. The owner was friendly. They have Wifi :).

This place does it right. Excellent food. Dill Pickle Soup is worth the stop. Perogies are some of the best that Ive had it quite a while. The Stuffed Cabbage were also fantastic.

This is one of our favorite stops for lunch or dinner on vacation in Michigan. We went there 3 times in one week we loved it so much. We ordered a range of food, as there were 7 people in our party. The best dish most of us agreed on was the Meat Goulash with Potato Dumplings, it was delicious. The meat was tender, the dumplings perfect, and the gravy combined to make a flavorful delight. We also got the Pierogi sampler, the colors were unique but made the different flavors easily identifiable. The cheddar and potato was the most popular flavor with our family. The staff, including the owner were very friendly and accommodating. We started one meal inside and asked to move out onto the porch when seating became available and they were happy to let us do so. The view from there is lovely, looking out over quaint Petoskey, and Lake Michigan. We highly recommend this place and thank the Polish Kitchen for their delicious food and great service. We will be back every time we're in Michigan.

Very flavorful polish meal. We had the Hunter drew and it was so big we ended up sharing. The potato pancakes were the best I've had outside of my mother in law's kitchen. Very reasonably price. A must come back to when up here.

My first time at the Polish Kitchen was recent and I wasn't sure what to order, so I went with the Polish platter to get a nice sampling of everything. The food was very tasty, from the grilled kielbasa (great flavor!), to the pierogi and cabbage roll. The service was very friendly and helpful, and the location is great as well. I'd definitely recommend it for authentic Polish fare.

Fantastic food and superior service. We had a group of 6 and they didn't blink an eye when we ordered food in waves. This little gem is a secret right now so there's no wait. We had pierogi, goulash, schnitzel, pastie, potato pancakes, and potato dumplings. I didn't love the schnitzel but i ate ALL the dumplings and goulash. Oh and the portions are generous. Sadly, no beer or wine.

A taste of Poland! The friendly owners are from Poland and it tasted just like the homeland! The food was flavorful and not greasy. The golabki was tender and delicious, the pierogis were some of the best I've ever had, and the sausage had a great flavor. The sauerkraut had a delicious unique flavor, not too sour and not too sweet. The Zurek soup was also pure comfort! Highly recommended and will definitely be back. They even offered to translate a letter from our cousins in Poland!

One of the most incredible ethnic food experiences we have ever had! Do not judge by the decor, which is a mix of simple four tops and a few metallic purple and silver vinyl booths, all surrounded by brown paneled walls. The Polish food is the best we've ever had. We ordered everything except for the potato dumplings and hunters stew, since there were only two of us, we had to draw the line somewhere. Pierogi, the best Polish sausage EVER, shredded beets, dill pickle soup and more! We loved every bite and can't wait to go back! Super friendly and helpful staff.
