In a world filled with franchises and pre-prepared goods, Johan's was a delectable experience. My husband's cinnamon roll was almost as big as his head and moist. My raspberry Danish was so sweet I could not finish it (rare happening). Stop at Johan's now!

I am an amateur baker (breads, pizza, pastries) and was delighted when I saw this little bakery on 31 as we drove around Petoskey, it was closed at the time, so I called to find out when they opened. To my surprise a nice lady answered the phone (it was 6pm) and she informed me that they opened at 5:30AM, needless to say, that was going to be quite a bit earlier than I planned on arriving to retrieve some doughnuts, but it is the sign of a GOOD bakery. In my excitement I began to wonder what kinds of breads they might have on display, I decided even without seeing what goods they would have for sale that I would be some doughnuts, a baguette and a loaf of rye or pumpernickel bread (and potentially anything else that looked good). I was not disappointed when I walked in, they had a nice assortment of doughnuts, most notably my favorite, the plain cake doughnut. I got a couple of those, a powdered sugar, a cinnamon sugar and a raspberry jelly filled. The plain cake ones where fantastic, my wife enjoyed the cinnamon sugar and the raspberry jelly was HUGE (and tasty), I am saving the rest for later. I have not tried the baguette, but it smelled fantastic. And when I asked for the pumpernickel I was offered the choice of a round or long (oval) loaf, sliced or unsliced, again those options to me mean that this is a GOOD bakery. I paid about $11 all in all, which seems like a decent price to me. When I eventually move to Petoskey, I hope to be a regular here, who knows maybe I can work there part-time and sharpen my baking skills.

Everything bagels have some of the everything inside the dough as well as on the outside. Why aren't all everything bagels like that? So good! Long johns are awesome! I like he apple fritters too.

Is it not a health violation to have a live parrot in a bakery? Gross it smelled like rodents. The birthday cake i bought tasted fine but the decorating was sooo bad- worse than a grocery store- boring flowers or squiggles were the choices. Store is so run down i would not dream of lingering here. Clientele is all senior citizens clinging on but if a fresher cleaner more appealing competitor ever pops up this place is a goner.

Love Johan's! This is always one of our first stops when we visit the area for skiing or lake vacations. Their bagels are huge and tasty - as close to a NY bagel as I've seen in the Midwest. Donuts are great too - not too sweet and reasonably priced. Even better, if you are lucky, you can pick up half priced goods from the day before - great way to stop up on treats to last the rest of the week! (or to freeze bagels for later).

Still love them, just wish they sold cake by the slice ;) hint, hint

Best donuts I've ever had. The bagels are really great too. They're big, which is exactly the way donuts and bagels should be. So good and so fresh, all others are a disappointment after Johans.

We were visiting Petoskey and decided to splurge (calories not $$) and try Johan's Pastry shop. OMG! Everything we had over several days (we couldn't stop going back!) was just wonderful. The tastes were great and lots of choose from, so everyone in the family could get their favorite. Good value for the excellent quality. Wish we had one of these bakeries at home. I'd go back to Petoskey just for Johan's.

THE COFFEE CAKE. I CANNOT STOP EATING IT. My dad always picks one up from their Boyne City outpost when I come to visit, and it never disappoints. The pecan and the cherry custard are probably my favorite flavors. I feel like this is one of the few foods in the world that actually benefits from 30 seconds in the microwave; it is somehow transformed into rich, buttery, coffee cake magic after a quick zap. The donuts are also quite good (and big!) but that coffee cake is usually our go-to indulgent breakfast treat.

It doesn't get any better than this. (Conversely, Johan's is a dieter's worst nightmare.) I don't think you can go wrong with any of the pastries. For a real treat, stop in on Paczki Day. They do offer breads, but really, it's not their specialty. (You want good bread in Petoskey? Try Crooked Tree Breadworks.) Stick with the pastries, and you won't be disappointed. The parking situation is not great. There's a short, narrow lane out front where vehicles can line up to park, but no real parking lot, or you might be able to snag a spot in the street. The treats are so good, though, that it's worth it. Absolutely recommended.

We stopped her for lunch when we found our original destination closed...had really delicious turkey sandwiches. We didn't indulge in the pastries, but they looked yummy. The coffee was great. We're glad we discovered this little bakery cafe'.

Great donuts - best custard long johns I've had. Definitely a must visit when I'm in town.

If you must be up early for a work meeting or a school trip, bringing these donuts and pastries will make you a hero. They are what donuts should be - sweet and FRESH. I will admit, my sister is best friends with the owner's son, but it's freaking Petoskey - you would know everyone too if you lived there for 5+ years.

We loved this place. The donuts were very tasty and generously portioned. Muffins were good just eat them right away cause they dry out quickly. They were also really helpful leading us to a great picnic spot in the area. Johan's will definitely be in our list next trip!

This pastry shop IS as good as it gets. The glazed buttermilk donuts are my favorite. Sit and have a pastry with Johan's coffee...Yum! We took a almond tea ring to friends house and we were all amazed its goodness. If you are looking for something less sweet, try the bagels. You can't go wrong with Johan's.

Johan's has great donuts and good pie - a winning combination. I have never tried the breads, but everything else is top notch. Nice staff and locally owned.
