A solid meal for not much money. Get the pie, it's to die for. This place has been around for over 100 years. I sat on the same stool that Ernest Hemmingway used to sit on. This place deserves 5 stars just for that.

I don't know what happened with some of the other reviewers, but I had the whitefish platter and cherry pie and thought I had died and gone to heaven! I don't live in the area (from California) and cannot stop thinking about that cherry berry pie. As others have said, the crust is AMAZING. I CAN'T EVEN EXPLAIN HOW GOOD THE PIE IS. We didn't have an issue with the service. Though they were young, they were all very nice and friendly. The only wait we had was after ordering our pie, only the guy who MAKES the pies can CUT the pie and he was busy so it took a while, but very much worth the wait. My only regret is that I didn't get a whole pie to go. I can't wait to go back to Petosky for Jespeson's and great shopping!!! What a cute, cute town! Love It!! (PS.. tried The Petosky Brewing Company for dinner and it was excellent too!)

Just stopped in for pie...BEST PIE CRUST EVER and I bake and generally do not eat pie crust...Indescribably flakey and tasty. Had coconut cream and mother banana cream...bother generous, delicious and so cheap. A total steal and MUCH better than any except perhaps Cormacks which has great fillings but not as good crust

Five stars for the banana cream pie, three stars for the food, two stars for service. I keep coming here for the pie so I rounded up. If you come for pie, order it first thing and have them bring it to your table right away. Otherwise you may not get the flavor you want. Also be aware that the pie is usually warm from the oven- my husband was expecting his coconut cream pie to be cold, and I hadn't thought to tell him. The wait staff tends to be young kids, and not so good. And it's a little on the dirty side. I generally come after the lunch rush and there is always lots of food on the ground, plus the tables & chairs are old and dirty.

A hometown favorite, with excellent soups and pies. You can even order a whole pie ahead of time -- try the cherry berry! Another treat is the whitefish platter, with cole slaw. Yum! The only problem with Jesperson's, aside from the fact that it is small and there is often a line at peak times, is that there is no air conditioning. This used to be the norm for many Petoskey businesses as it rarely got warm enough in the summer to warrant air conditioning, but most businesses have now installed A/C and, global warming or whatever, it DOES seem to get warmer here now than when I was a kid.

Nice, small, homie restaurant that's known for its pie. Their menu is limited and the portions seem rather small for the price you pay. I recommend it for lunch while in the downtown area.

We were there around 1 PM on a weekday. Busy with a short wait. We each got a wrap, one was good and the other was just average. We also ordered a hamburger cooked "medium well, just past pink." There was too much pink on the inside so we sent it back and they cooked it some more but it was still not satisfactory. We shared a slice of Dutch Apple pie which was excellent. Great flavor. The crust and the topping tasted good along with the apple filling of course.

Really this place has made it 112 years? Only because of so many uninformed tourists! I hope you all avoid this un-air-conditioned excuse of a restaurant. Beware of getting the runs soon after dining here. Owners sit in the back eating all day. GROSS!!! If there is one thing I pride myself on is giving people second chances, actually I give them several, but today was the last straw for this hole in the wall. Our server was not only lacking basic skills, but when you are as dim as she is, add in her bad attitude along with food that is below human grade and yes after 49 years of my family going here, we are through. -Order delivered incorrectly -Watered down cream of tomato soup. -Stale bread -No mayo on sandwich -Ordered fries but received soggy crumbles chips; see photo. -Pickles are sliced so thin you wonder if they are ginger. -Pricing is ridiculous to boot.

This place needs to desperately up its game. 2 stars for family owned and history. The pie is ok, the food is literally less than mediocre and not even a great value. Best of luck.

Well, not what we'd hoped the little ma & pa place would be. Cute old time diner atmosphere. Completely mobbed with 3 wait staff. Our waitress clearly disliked her job, possibly her life. Took almost 6 minutes to be acknowledged at all. Food took a VERY long time, then my sons salad was 'out.' So they made it fresh, but it took an extra 7 minutes. Had to ask for drink refills after they say empty for too long. The lack of food venues in this area might be all that keeps this place alive. Not impressed... I like to see my kids happy on vacation, not frustrated.

Great and friendly service and I was excited about the 110 years of history, but...The food was below mediocre. Chicken noodle soup had cloudy salty broth and noodles (no chicken!). The white chicken chili was a gray color and didn't look like they drained the canned beans. The sandwiches were very small and basic. The homemade French salad dressing was good though. As we ate, we watched the pie slices sit on the counter including the meringue pies sat unrefrigerated. As I also sat there I was curious where their restroom was, and heard a customer ask, and they directed her through the kitchen and downstairs. That can't be to code... The locals don't eat here because they know better. I wanted to support a local family owned restaurant, and it's sad that it didn't meet our expectations. I hope they improve their food quality.

Quaint family-owned business. Delicious food and pie! All the employees are very friendly, and are obviously little worker bees. Nothing fancy, but definitely wholesome. I highly recommend!

Avoid! Though there is great pie, this restaurant is the kind of place that ends up on Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares. The food was poorly "cooked" and the waitstaff, while nice, was incompetent. We waited while our food got cold in the the service window as our waitress disappeared. I ordered a grilled ham and cheese sandwich that was supposed to come with onion and tomato, came with neither, the ham was cold, the cheese was unmelted and it wasn't even grilled! Who messes up a grilled cheese sandwich? Couple that with soups that were canned but had items added to them, my chicken noodle was canned broth with noodles, my girlfriend's soup was campbells with extra chicken. She also ordered onion rings, which turned out to be Ore-Ida. It was a terrible experience. Even the fantastic pie couldn't improve upon it because when it was originally ordered, it sat on the counter as the waitress disappeared again. We watched her move it from one counter to the next and then fade into the background. When she came back, she asked us if we wanted pie again, and we said sure, that piece that you cut for us over there. In short, a terrible experience.

I haven't been here in years, but this was the first place I ever had or saw offerred on the menu a portabello mushroom sandwich. The waiting staff was attentive and made the awesome suggestion of the sandwich. Salads were delectable and had a nice variety of greens, veggies and other yummy tidbits. When I go back to Petoskey, I will definitely be looking up this place. I was surprised that a little port town in Michigan had something new and different that I had never seen before. Leave it to little Petoskey, Michigan to be a forerunner with the portabello sammi!! I'm giving Jesperson's only four starts as I don't know if their service and food is still the way I remember it. Let's hope so, I hate to be disappointed.
