I didn't have a great dining experience, probably because I didn't understand the seating structure and was given a "good" seat outside with no lighting. So instead of reading my Petoskey News-Review I instead had to focus on the extroverted boater types nearby. But for you, the reader, the more relevant question is the cuisine, and Chandler's succeeded in that department. I got the wild boar loin and in case something is lost in translation, here's their exact description: coriander & cumin dusted, butternut squash, hazelnuts, apple, spinach and cider gastrique. The meat was outstanding, the dusting was powerful and the extra sauce is bread-worthy. The menu is relatively brief, so I'd guess there are no bad choices.

One of the best prepared meals I've ever eaten. Ordered the calamari as an appetizer and was blown out of the water. Came very lightly breaded and are sautéed in a spicy chile sauce. Exceptional. Only complaint is that you received a pretty small amount. Ordered the lamb chops as my entree. They came highly recommended by our waitress and exceeded my high expectations. Exceptionally moist and flavorful; easily the best chops I've ever ordered. My girlfriend ordered the grouper, which she loved. Came on top of a bed of mushroom risotto, was as good as everything else we enjoyed that night. Our waitress was superb, waiting on us as if we were her only customers. It's costly (a bill for the two of us rang in at $118 with no drinks), but Chandler's delivered in every way possible.

We had an excellent late lunch here on a Thursday afternoon. We sat at the bar and were welcomed by a friendly bartender. I ordered the chili and my sister ordered the fish tacos both were awesome. We returned the following evening with a larger party for dinner. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. I was a little disappointed that they ran out of the halibut but they substituted salmon with the same preparation and it was excellent. I also had an amazing fresh seasonal caprese salad that was to die for! I would come back here in a heartbeat. Loved the intimate and cozy interior. Love how they use fresh seasonal ingredients. Look forward to dining here again some day!

Chandler's is one of the very few restaurants open on Christmas, and I'm immensely thankful for it. It's a much better alternative to the local Chinese buffet. Their menu is seasonal but every dish I've had here has been on point. Everything from duck breast to bone in ribeye steak, all have been cooked exactly as requested. Nothing is over or under done. They offer a wide variety of proteins as entrees but I find their vegetarian options a little lacking. You are basically stuck with the starter salads if their veggie dish of the day isn't appealing. I will say though while small, the salads pack a punch. On my most recent visit they had a bright, citrus salad which was very refreshing and balanced. Yes their menu is a little pricey, but Chandler's is a gem. Service and food is on par with a nice metropolitan restaurant. Also there few places in Petoskey on the same level. Plus it doesn't hurt that they have a great cocktail menu.

Very disappointed of our experience last night .. I ordered my steak medium well when the steak came to the table is raw.. I sent it back then it came back raw again..so I would have thought after this happened twice and I refused to eat and the manager wouldn't come over.. Nope I was told by the waitress that they would discuss at the end of the night what they could have done differently.

Very good food and service. The only reason I'm giving a 4 instead of a 5 is they are a little pricey. My girlfriend and I happened to stumble upon the restaurant after shopping. We weren't very hungry, but had a seat at the bar for a drink. We met some very friendly locals and the bartender whipped up some killer drinks. We split a charcuterie tray (fabulous) and decided we'd come back the next night for dinner. Booking a reservation through Open Table was a snap. Neither of us were very hungry so we decided to split a couple items. We started with the Vietnamese roll, then a white anchovies Caesar salad, and wrapped up with Halibut with mushroom risotto. All were fabulous. The white anchovies were a special treat that are hard to find. If you like anchovies you'll have to get this. We were especially impressed the chef split our halibut dish in two and plated each properly (see pic - amazing) without us even asking! The service was very good, however a last minute computer meltdown made getting the bill sort of awkward. Glad I had cash. All-in-all I'd bet this has to be the finest dinner you can find in Petoskey. Make sure to stop.

Great service, excellent wine, delicious filet AND THEY ALLOW DOGS ON THE PATIO!! Love them!!

One of the nicest restaurants in the area. Terrific wine list. Warm, professional service. For intimacy or even for parties of 6 or 8, ask for a table in the wine cellar. So much fun.

Stopped I'm for lunch with the hubby and we loved it! Great outdoor space, great food (I had the whitefish salad, which was a little heavy on the soba noodles but more than plenty fish and veggies even so, and he had the 5 Dragon sandwhich, which is basically a reuben and is delicious) and good wine list. Great stop in downtown Petoskey!

Just moved to the area and this is the first and last time we try Chandler's. We were seated right away, with waters delivered soon after and this was the last good part of this restaurant. My wife and I ordered Beef Carpaccio as an app and was never brought to the table. The bread that was served was okay, when it was finally brought over. The waters were seldom filled along with the Coke I ordered. My wife ordered the Halibut with Risotto and I ordered the Beef Filet Medium. Her fish was good but my Steak was over cooked and meat quality was lower grade then an Outback or Apple bees. The server seamed over run with the few tables he had and was a little to "Hey Man" for the type of restaurant. We spent a little over $100 for the two of us with out drinking and for that kind of money I would expect a higher quality in food along with more professional servers. Would not recommend to anyone!

Consistently great food, my fiancé and I had the calamari appetizer and split the duck for dinner. The calamari was some of the best I have ever had and the duck was perfect! We have been here a few times in the past and love it so much we are having our wedding rehearsal dinner here.

We visited one night during the restaurant week. The duck was near perfect, the fish tasted wonderful! All in all a decent deal. The best part of the meal was the Awesome Coffee, took the wife and me a good time to finish up. The cold never really hit us after that. Only wish they had some draft beers and were a little less pricey. Otherwise great food and definitely great service for a romantic night in Petoskey. Highly recommend!

A bit pricey but worth it in my mind. When my wife and I want a wonderful night out without the kids we head here. Food is always prepared perfect and the ambiance is nice too. Not a real big location but in a unique spot.

Lovely Valentine's Day dinner with my husband. Had just come into town for the weekend, no reservation, but they accommodated us immediately anyway. Had the Caesar salad (in Parmesan basket), the king crab appetizer, and the beef filet (medium was nicely pink). All were cooked perfectly. Waiter Paul was prompt, efficient and there just enough. Cozy ambiance on a cold winter's night. Would go back!

Went to Chandler's again for lunch while up north for a long weekend. I love that it's tucked away, with an unassuming entrance, but busy each time I've been. Drinks are generously poured and food is unique and fab! Had a great blueberry mojito for an after lunch treat. Super romantic and a must visit when in petoskey!

Expensive drinks and food. Don't be surprised when you get your bill. However my halibut and her filet were very very good. Cooked as we liked and well flavored. I enjoyed my romaine wedge and risotto to accompany my fish. Tried some of her remaining filet and will certainly order next time. Was the filet worth the money? Hmm...if you are a rich Chicagoan with a lake house in harbor springs, probably. Anyone else...probably not. Drawbacks: booze a bit high priced. Prevented me from ordering more. Seating a bit cramped. The place is small. Mostly though, it can get quite loud in there. I guess if you are a foodie, you'll like it as the food stands on its own. But if I were to go on a first date or something I would go somewhere else. Just not intimate and quiet enough for me to have a conversation with my date.

  • John J.

THE LEAD WAITER/MANAGER WAS A JERK OK for expensive food and wine. My advice is if you order your filet medium rare and it comes out in which it is burnt and overcooked, draining it of flavor and making it tough and chewy. DO NOT TRY AND CORRECT the MISTAKE....Lots of eye rolling and arguing from the lead waiter who did NOTHING other than make up lame excuses and made us feel like novice foodies. I felt like I was at Dick's Last Resort (except Dicks has better service). After my date went into BEAST MODE and requested the owners contact information, it was only then we were finally treated with a bit of respect and dignity. After the JERK left..several guests said "did that just really happen? I can't believe he treated you guys that way." I won't be back...there are too many other great restaurants in the Petoskey area then to risk having to deal with this jerk again.

I had a truly great experience at chandlers. I had the steak and it was perfect. It was cooked wonderfully and was very tender. The service was good, fast and friendly. I would recommend eating here.

Food was awesome. Everything from our wine to the appetizer to the entree to the desert. 11/10 hands down. Our waiter was professional and attentive. But, not the overbearing kind of attentive. He apparently had a crystal ball and knew just when to stop by. Atmosphere was great too. A small 15 table dining area with a nice bar. Kitchen is in view and cool to see. Just a little loud during peak hours. Overall this was one of the best meals I've had in the Petoskey area. My wife and I will definitely be back! Blows all other "fancy" restaurants around town out of the water. Including places in Bay Harbor, Harbor Springs and Weathervane.

Loved the Perch Tacos, to die for!! Great Spirits and wine selection: Local Grand Traverse Late Harvest Riesling. Not too sweet, full body with a smooth crisp finish. Happy friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere .

We celebrated my son's birthday at the restaurant. I chose Chandler"s based on the Yelp reviews. The group consensus was the food was very good. The menu was rather limited and they were out of the halibut. The dining room was perhaps one of the most uncomfortable spaces I have ever eaten. It was extemely loud and extremely crowded. The wait staff stood behind us our entire meal and talked very loudly with a couple of regulars. They had musician performing but it only added to the clamor. We couldn't even carry on a conversation. Our table was next to the kitchen. The two sitting closest were uncomfortable due to heat lamps and the drain in the kitchen had a very noticeable odor. This restaurant needs to be in a larger area. I was a little disappointed in the atmosphere. It took away from the food. This may a good place in the Summer with their outside seating.

I always visit Chandlers when I am in Petoskey and the food is amazing every time. This local gem is by far the best restaurant in northern Michigan. I enjoyed the halibut greatly last night and the foie gras with a sweet corn blini was better than you will find anywhere else. Despite the fact they were packed as always our food came out very timely and the manager Tom was very nice to our party and made sure we were enjoying our time. It also doesn't hurt that they have an expansive wine selection and great cocktails!!

  • Kristine R.

Never had a bad meal here, last night was no exception!! Ate in the cellar, was a bit chilly so the waitress brought me a heater to my table!! Was very impressed with accommodation. As for the food... Superb as always!! Bread is fresh and served with great oil and balsamic. Caesar salad is to die for, served in a parmesan bowl.... Amazing. Had a special entree of the night, the seabass was cooked to perfection (as is every dish I've ever had here). Husband had halibut that was equally as phenomenal. Hummers are the best in town ... And actually have alcohol in them!! All cocktails are made perfectly!

Sat down for over 15 minutes no server or drinks offered. Greeter at door was curt only gave us one menu for party of two. Finally had to leave after twenty minutes of no service. Real bummer this place showed potential but the staff gave us the cold shoulder. Five servers walked past us, maybe it was because were not townies. Two other couples were sat after us and served with a smile and drink! Don't come here if you're from outta town! Ended up at papa Lou's after great service!!!!

We had a wonderful dinner here on Labor Day. Reserved a spot in the wine cellar thinking that the crowds would probably be gone .... It was wonderful. We were seated at a small table. Candles and white tablecloths made the mood perfect. I had butternut squash soup and mY lamb was as good as any I have ever had. My husband loved his fish. Pricey ... Yes but we feel it was worth it! Definitely would go again.

What a delicious surprise! I got the tostada, without cheese or sour cream (can't eat 'em...) Still had tons of flavor - so many restaurants rely on that cheese to cover up lackluster recipes, but not so here!! Hubby got the Turkey Sandwich, which was no plain jane. It came on marbled rye with lots of turkey, bacon and avocado, along with chips and pickle. The inside of the restaurant feels pretty cramped, but the shady outdoor seating was perfect for a breezy july afternoon! ps, check out the bathrooms - they're pretty rockin' :)

We visited Chandler's to celebrate a birthday while we were vacationing in nearby Walloon Lake. I must say that the ambiance is nice in the wine cellar room (where we ate) but the other part of the restaurant which is across the patio/courtyard seemed a little cramped. I really enjoyed the calamari appetizer, lightly breaded and fried, and not greasy or heavy at all. I also got the heirloom tomato salad which was very nice and light and a perfect way to start a meal. For my entree I got the filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly. The cut of meat was good, and it was nice and tender, as it should be. My friend got a NY strip and ordered it medium rare, and it came out pretty well done (no pink in the middle). He ate it anyway since he didn't want to send it back (you can't un-cook a steak) and since my boyfriend's parents were footing the bill I'm sure he didn't want to be rude. I thought the food was excellent, but it was definitely pricey ($38 for the filet). Most of the main dishes ran between $28-$40. The salads were around $9-10 and the appetizers were $10-15. Our server was fine. Not bad but not extraordinary either. She did offer to take a picture of our large group which was nice. This is probably one of the nicest restaurants in Petoskey but you have to be willing to shell out some dough for the experience.

Every August, my family is sure to have lunch at Chandler's. The ambiance is welcoming and the staff is friendly and attentive. The lunch fare is enjoyable; they serve some great sandwiches and the pricing is a good value. Chandler's is a restaurant we always enjoy and look forward to returning to year after year.

My husband and I had a wonderful evening here and I would love to come back next time we are in the area. The service was excellent- attentive without being overbearing. The food was very good but not 5 star worthy. I got the bellaire martini and it was excellent.

I've enjoyed this place with my family for years, but our last experience was absolutely painful. After an hour and a half our food came out raw & the manager had no interest in our concern. We left unsatisfied after four hours. We will not be back. The tall guy running shop is awful.

My husband and I ate at Chandler's a couple of weeks ago. We had gone up north for the weekend, wanted a place to have dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Chandler's fit the bill quite nicely. The atmosphere was cozy and warm, our waitperson (Paul) was knowledgable and attentive, the food and wine were delicious. We had the bibb lettuce and pear salads to start, followed by veal scallopini and the rabbit. all were excellent, as was the wine. we ended the meal with espresso and cannoli. The espresso was good but the cannoli was the only disappointment - the pastry seemed a bit stale. Overall, however, a very enjoyable meal.

We had a lovely time. Based in other reviews I was concerned that date night might not be best trusted to Chandler's. I'm glad we did! The server was new and inexperienced, but made up for it with a winning smile and great attitude. There is no sommelier so another waiter made two suggestions. The first, for a port to go with the foie gras, was dead on. It also went well with the farmers plate of sausage and cheeses. The second, a Zinfandel, was not accurately described. It was much more spicy than fruity (as zins usually are) and was probably just a guess. I has the lamb. Delicious, as was the accompanying quinoa, feta and cherries mix. My wife really liked the hangar steak as well. A cobbler for dessert was a fine finish. After eating we sat on a bench outside and listened to the piano man for an hour. He was wonderful, and a great opportunity to hold hands and finish our date. I reserve 5 stars for those places that are truly outstanding and different. Chandler's is not that, but they were VERY good, and I would never hesitate to return.

I see some pretty mixed reviews for this place, but my one experience here was quite good. I went recently on a date, for which it had the right cozy ambiance. Our waitress was sweet, attentive, and glad to answer questions. The wine and drink selection is pretty impressive, from which I had a nice cote du Rhone. My date and I shared a cheese board, which had some really nice offerings. We each got the filet from that day's menu (it changes up), which came with potatoes and asparagus. It was all cooked perfectly and tasted great. It did seem rather pricey, but the food was pretty quality. The only bad things I can really say is that some drunk older lady kinda half-wiped out and knocked all the dishes off her table (which isn't the restaurant's fault), and the cooks were playing with their phones. Other than that, I think that this place is a nice option for a night out.

Had another fabulous dinner here. When ever we are near Petoskey we always dine at Chandlers. Small, intimate and always lively and we love it. Rack of lamb was the best ever with a glass of 75 cab. My lovely spouse had a filet and she says it was prepared perfectly. Save room for a HUMMER ice cream drink, it's the best adult dessert drink in the north country.

I'll give you fair warning, take my advice with a grain of salt. I've only been here for drinks a few times, and I've never eaten a bite. Now that the crowd has thinned out a bit, I'll give you my brief take on things. It's crowded inside, simply by virtue of not being that spacious. It's really hot, too, and some of the cooking is done right in the dining area. Already, it's not my cup of tea. Still, I can't argue that place has a certain cozy charm to it. The soft glow of the lights, the bustle of the place, the food looking amazing as it goes past... it all has a context of it's own. What I really did enjoy was their super cute patio, that was virtually empty the few times I've been there. I was able to enjoy a few glasses of wine with my amazing g/f and her martini and just enjoy the evening. In fact, my hat goes off to all the places in Northern MI that have made our visits there so special and memorable. As far as negatives go, I agree with Brad C's comments. When you go in, it's a bit awkward... there is technically an entrance, but then again, there isn't. You essentially walk in between what looks like 2 separate businesses.. you really aren't sure.... to a patio of sorts, with no idea who to talk to or where to go. The situation doesn't improve once you enter the restaurant proper. It's cramped and there is zero waiting space, which is fine if you have someone to greet you immediately upon entering the restaurant you make you feel a little less awkward.. but in fact, you might believe it was the staff's intention to make you feel a little more awkward, as they hurriedly rush past you like an obstacle to service people more important than yourself. Hello? A sign? A dedicated hostess? Get with it Chandlers, for the prices I've seen on the food menu, you can do a little better than letting me know the deal after the bartender is finished making 10 drink orders. Sorry, but calling yourself a high-end restaurant without a hostess is a really a joke, you are absolutely dropping the ball here. Don't worry guys, I'll be back. We like the place. But if you want to make a semi regular out of me, there are some basic things about the environment you need to improve.

This is by far one of the best restaurants in Northern Michigan. We've been eating here for years, and our meals have always been excellent. The waitstaff is attentive and bartenders Rich and Christian rock. If you love walleye, and it's on the menu, order it. Hummers are fabulous.

My husband and I had passed this little restaurant lots of times and never stopped to eat there. Tonight, because our usual place was closed, we went in and were very pleasantly surprised. It was about 5:30 so they seated us immediately. Everyone was friendly and the place is cute, small and clean. It has an upscale but relaxed feeling to it. It, in fact, reminded me of places I'd had dinner in Paris (France, that is). We ordered house wines, both of which were surprisingly good. They brought us nice crusty bread with dipping oil and had our salads out very quickly. We split a Caesar and it was delicious and beautifully done .. very gourmet presentation on a little Parmesan cup which was also tasty. Because it was early and we weren't so hungry we ordered only appetizers. My husband had calamari with a dipping sauce. It was done well and also tasted good. It is easy to over cook that dish but it was perfect. My order was for Guyere cheese puffs. They were brought to me in a drinking glass! I found that interesting, sort of, but not so pleasing on the presentation! I felt they should have had something for me to dip them in or there should have been a garnish or something! Having said all that, they were quite tasty, if a tiny bit dry without sauce. I dipped them in my husband's calamari sauce and that worked. Now that I think of it, the olive oil might have been nice too. All in all it was a really nice experience. We were in the mood for a break from our diet and this filled the bill. The waiter was friendly and efficient, but not too friendly. Everyone said goodbye when we left like they do in a Japanese sushi shop. In fact they serve a bit of sushi and sashimi. The food was impeccable so I might be willing to try it next time though I mostly don't eat anything but 'american' food in small American cities. Don't order Mexican in Nebraska, or sushi in Arkansas...ya know! I would recommend it for a kind of nice modern restaurant. I thought the menu was a bit overpriced for the entrees. But i didn't eat any of that, so it might be stunningly good for all I know and worth every penny.

This is my favorite restaurant in the region. Always count on a great meal and if your dining at dinner, Paul is the best waiter. Warm and dozy atmosphere is perfect for a chilly fall or winter day and the outdoor patio is great for warmer weather dining. Wine and drink list is great as well.

5 stars all the way. The food was amazing and service was excellent. My girlfriend used to live in Petoskey and has talked extremely high of Chandlers. While being in town for the Memorial day weekend I had to see what all the fuss was about. Everything we ordered was prepared exceptionally well. We specifically came to have there seabass and the host (i believe his name was Tom) made sure two pieces were saved for us. I will definitely be going back.

Chandler's greatness is as much in part from it's atmosphere as it is from it's great food. We were seated in the quieter wine cellar - which lent itself to a very Parisian "cave" kind of vibe. The wait staff was wonderful, as was their wine selection and cocktails. I had the sea bass with black rice and sweet radishes, served in a teryaki glaze - a daily seafood special. I thought it was absolutely delicious, and everyone I was with loved theirs too. Overall great food, great atmosphere. Not the best fine dining experience ever, but still really good.

This place was very good. It is tiny though--make a reservation! Great appetizers, salads, and entrees. Would go again in a heartbeat. I had the quinoa which was a little small for a whole dinner. I would recommend getting an entree.

We have been visiting this restaurant 1 -2 a year when we are in the area and have been very happy with food and service here but this past weekend our group visited Chandler's and was very disappointed with the food and the service. The set up was lovely. My appetizer, the Smoke Scallop roll was just ok. The rice was uncooked. I have Sea bass for dinner which is good. My husband had Steak and it was just lukewarm. Our waiter was horrible. His name is Michael. Stay away from him if you are visiting the restaurant. I think the guy is just rude! We spent $1,500 for for food and wine for 11 people and we offered 20% tips and the guy was obnoxious. One of our friends asked for a change of his $20 bill. He handed to the waiter. The waiter ripped in half and then handed back. Not sure why he did that. He must of thought that he did not get enough tip. He told us "I'm not your average waiter" like he was trying to hint us to give more tip. We think 20% is generous given that half of the bill is wine. The guy just had a horrible manner.

This place is a little odd. There is no clear entrance, and then when you walk in, there is no real place to be greeted. It is off-putting and you feel like you are in everyone's way. Once seated, the server was terrific. The menu was nice (although encrusted with prior meal's crumbs) and the atmosphere was nice. The food falls short, especially for the price. I couldn't even tell you what we had, and it was less than a month ago. Not memorable. Try harder, please.

Really expensive for 3 star food. The service was also REALLY slow... it took us more than an hour to get our food. The atmosphere was really nice though and also, eating there for lunch was better. It was less expensive, WAY better service and better food.

February 2008 Visit: The menu at Chandler's, both regular and the daily specials, are interesting, including some fusion menus. However, do NOT eat sushi here, or what they call sushi. Serving sushi at upscale bars seem to be perceived as chic, but rarely are they prepared properly. I avoid them in general, but my friend tried the California roll which was bland. The rice was undercooked, which is just unacceptable. This is the only reason I cannot give five stars. However, it is not to say that Chandler's doesn't have good "Asian," or rather Asian fusion food. The daily special "Thai" soup was delicious, served spicy with shrimp tempura in a little pot. The other appetizer, the heirloom tomato risotto with fresh mozzarella and basil oil was also a nice dish. All of our mains were good, hard to pick out a favorite. This hanger steak came with fries and curried ketchup. The steak was excellent and the spice of the ketchup was different but not too strong. The bone-in veal chop came with parmesan-peppercorn risotto and foie-gras beurre compose. Good veal prepared right, does it get anny better? I also had one of the best lamb shanks I've ever had. Perhaps the moroccan spice in the white bean puree was a little overpowering, but the tomato-fennel reduction was amazing and the spicy chili pepper relish was really spicy, adding a kick. We finished up with Creme Caramel topped with apple cider caramel, which was pretty good. The service was attentive and not overly friendly, and I cannot comment on the wine since I was underage at the time (not anymore!), but my friend was happy with his selection. Next time I visit anywhere near Petoskey, I will make sure to visit Chandler's again.

I recommend the calamari this is one of my favorites from here. The service is great, and the fish is fresh. Lamb chops are tender and juicy and a wonderful view. Kinda hard to find if you have never been here but once you find it you will definitely come back.

This place is always good! Great martinis, food is presented well and always fresh and delicious. We look forward to it every time we are vacationing in the area. Also recommend Pierson's at Boyne Mountain. Great expresso martini!

As someone who lived in Petoskey for 5+ years, I disagree with the other two reviewers, except in the atmosphere aspect. It has great atmosphere, at least with the outdoor dining (inside is freaking small to the point of making some claustrophobic). Service is decent at best. Portions and the quality of the food (or lack of it) do NOT match up with the prices. Much too overpriced for what they offer. You can easily get a better sandwich at Roast and Toast or Whitecaps for better prices. I haven't had the wine at Chandler's, but I know that Whitecaps offers a similar selection. There is no point in going to this tourist trap.

Although I have eaten here many times, this is my first time to review it. I have come to believe that Chandler's is about the wine list, dining outside to music in the summers and in the wine Cellar in the winter. Lunches are better than dinner and the main dining room is too noisy (hint: drop the TVs at the bar, at least in the summer). I find dinner usually OK at best. On the last trip I ordered the lamb chops medium rare, the waitress must have thought I said raw, maybe because of the din. I have always said the if a restaurant can do a few things well, they can succeed. Chandler's got the few things part, they never seem to change the menu and no specials, but they don't get the well part.

Chandler's is a cozy wood-paneled restaurant that has tasty cocktails, a variety of wines, and an up-dated high-end food menu. My last meal there (with a friend) included: starters of steak tartar (phenomenal) and Ahi Tuna with mint, peaches and marscapone cheese (a taste sensation); main courses of veal with a mushroom risotto and grilled lamb chops with summer squash; dessert was a cheese tray. We sat at the bar and our service was excellent. The bartender paired the wine with our food choices. This was quiet honestly one of the best meals I've had in a really long time.

What a rip. The ambiance and service was mediocre at best in comparison to rip off prices. I am happy to pay top dollar for an exquisite dining experience, but the service was like a fast food place and the cheap decor showed poor value. There were no middle-priced items. A basic chicken dish was $26! For what!? We strolled down to a nearby establishment and had a much nicer experience. I must say that their wine choices were unparalleled, albeit overpriced. So many better choices in the area.

Very respectable wine list that had a Chateau Montelena Cab that paired perfectly with the delightful duck and luscious lamb we had. Having sushi for appetizers was neat, but it was not their strong point. Avoid it unless you really have a craving for it.

Chandler's... Have you been to Chandler's? You should go to Chandler's... Chandler's is cool... We wandered in here on a cold and snowy january night after trying to get a table at The City Park Grille (see my other review)... We couldn't be seated immediately, so we wandered across the street (over a block) to Chandler's. My first impression was that we had slipped into some kind of transporter device because it felt exactly like a restaurant in Telluride Colorado that we'd been to before. It was my wifes birthday, so I feigned obstinance regarding the price. It is expensive. But at least I figured it'd be worth it. This place is all about atmosphere. It feels cool and cozy. There is alligator wallpaper in the mens room and I felt like hanging out in there for a lot longer than I normally do in a restaurant bathroom. I ordered a steak, which I usually avoid because I like to cook and rarely have had a great steak at a restaurant. This was no exception. I think it would have been fine if it were about $10 cheaper, but if you're gonna shell out $38 or whatever it was, I expect to have an orgasm after my first bite... My wife had the sea bass, which was good, but my mom makes it better. The best thing about this place aside from the bathrooms, are the cocktail selections and overall feel of the room. I could easily go back and eat apps and drink and urinate and be much more satisfied than dropping $150 for food that I quite frankly could make in my own kitchen.

This is a restaurant I wish were located where I live...it is really one of the best restaurants anywhere and I've been coming here for ten years. It takes a tight space and creates a charming upscale dining experience. It is quirky, welcoming and a wonderful place to enjoy. I like its look, service and the open kitchen. It's Aspen in Petoskey and all kinds of people come here to sit at the small bar, eat and listen to the quiet live music. It's a bit of a challenge in the winter, but that's what Merrills are for. When things get crowded, there are tables set across the entry/alley in the wine celler. A very special place.

This is the hands down the top 3 pricey restaraunts in town! If I'm going to P-Town with the idea of having a great meal but also paying for it I pick Chandlers. The atmosphere is very big city, wether inside in the intimate new york bistro atmosphere or outside on the european like sun porch! I'd much rather pay five dollars more a plate and enjoy the gourmet ingredients of Chandlers then say visit -City Park-Staffords - etc. The service is great and the flavors are really good - drinks and food. This place gets even extra credit for PIERSONS, their sister restaraunt at Boyne Mountain. A little more pub style, this place rocks. They serve great food, mountain side and offer the same gourmet products as Chandlers. Visit both places. I really reccomend the Goat Cheese Veggie wrap, Scallops and Risotta, and of course their seasonal Beers and Mojitos!

After a long 8+ hour drive, and finding almost nothing open the day after Easter, my coworker and I found Chandler's. The atmosphere and service are great ( it wasn't busy, but I can see how it would be noisy and a little oppressive inside if it were). The most remarkable thing though, is the price. Verrry expensive. Between the two of us- no drinks (even soda, or tea or something) or dessert-it was just over $50 for two appetizers and a sushi roll. The food is vary good. I especially liked the calamari, which was cooked more perfectly than I've ever had it before. We also had an ahi tuna appetizer, with pasta, olives, and tiny skinned vinegar-soaked tomatoes. The sushi was $16, for a spicy big eye tuna roll, which wasn't that large or remarkable. Though I admit we didn't have entrees, we weren't full afterward and a while later went to the Flap Jack Cafe for cheap food. If you have a lot of money to drop, or a medium amount of money for some apps, this might be a good stop.

Chandler's is definately the most ambitious restaurant in Petoskey. The menu is pretty creative and has an asian fusion feel in places. My main problem with this place is that everything is really overpriced - I realize that Petoskey is a tourist town and therefore fine dining prices will be high, but come on - if Chandler's was cheaper I'd give them 4 stars. The service can be hit or miss - I've had both great service and terrible service here. I do enjoy their brunch and the outdoor patio is nice.

Chandler's is the best place in town. Great food, drinks and atmosphere. We spent our Fourth of July in Petoskey, and our dinner at Chandler's was really impressive. Arguably one of the best outdoor-ambiances I've had the pleasure of dining in. You have to check this place out if you're in Petoskey, especially during the summer months..

We've eaten at Chandler's a half-dozen times, and it's been Very Good to Excellent every time. Unlike many places, Chandler's at least TRIES to be something unusual - a gourmet restaurant in a tourist area. I had the best Hanger Steak and homemade french fries of my life here. The wine selection is large and varied, (understandable since Chandler's sister store Symon's sells a lotta wine), and the atmosphere is either intimate or claustrophobic, depending on your point of view. When there's live music, it can get a bit loud in the main dining room, so just ask to sit in the wine room or outside instead. If you're looking for an un-pretentious nice meal, Chandler's is teh shiznit.

I'm a little conflicted on this review. I thought the food was quite good and the service very good. We sat outside and so I'm not sure I would rate the ambiance as good. Kitchen workers kept walking by with different pieces of food, one time a knife and I saw a waiter and two other guys standing right at the entrance smoking and talking. This is not the type of behavior you want to see at a fine restaurant. I think the real issue is cost. If you would like to pay between $25-35.00 for an entree ala carte--then this the place fore you. It is all fresh and locally grown but the prices are really high for the amount of food that you get. Having said that, I really enjoyed my food and bread was terrific. I do think you can get find food in Petoskey for less money.

Great wine list; good food. Pretty pricey though, and the staff can sometimes be a bit snarky.
