I went here a few days ago as part of a very large group, and had a great time. The food was very tasty, and prepared well. The staff was attentive, especially since our group was large. Service was quick. A few observations, WHY OH WHY would someone bring a child to a place that is geared for adults? Want your kiddies to have a good time, take them to Chuck E Cheese's, or the Mcdonalds playland to play in the pee pee balls! I would say that Genitti's is a good for family's IF the family members are over the age of 17. Oh, and its probably best to leave the sense of entitlement at the door, being that you will be one of many here. The play is not Broadway caliber, but it is a fun 45 min show with some pretty good laughs. All in all, I would rank this as a unique and entertaining experience, and would not have a problem returning, although I would never bring young children to this place...its not fair to them OR the rest of the patrons!

My daughter had her Sweet 16 Party last night, amazing!!!!!!! Laura and her staff made everything perfect. The food was outstanding, everyone had a wonderful time. Can't say enough about how great Genittis' is!

Genitti's is definitely a one-of-a-kind. The moment you walk in, you're family. And not in a fake "darling, it's been aaages" kind of way, but in a "hey, toots, where the hell you been? Everyone's in there waiting for you" kind of way. Warm, exposed brick is covered with autographs and love notes. Every nook and cranny is crammed with family photos as well as photos of notable Detroiters. The theatre next door can be rented for private events or theatre groups. I'd definitely book this for any casual family event. Genitti's has a sweet wedding package. I recommend all offbeat brides or those planning a casual affair to check into the seven-course family-style dinner. This place is the most charming, welcoming restaurant I've ever been in. It's 100% family-run - the manager is the daughter, Laura, and she is the best.

The group parties at Genitti's are fabulous. I've been to a few work functions for different companies. In each case, they've served a wonderful family-style meal and followed it up with a quick walk to the next room for a funny stage play. The food and wine were definitely good, but the real laughs and entertainment came in during the show. They ask for names for a few 'victims' for their comedy beforehand, then call these people seemingly randomly to the stage. By having a couple from each group there, everyone is engaged and entertained. If a cozy, casual venue is perfect for the folks you work with or otherwise gather with, I'd highly recommend a night of food and entertainment at Genitti's.

I just returned from the Holiday Hilarity/7 course meal event. The food was excellent..family style and tasty. Our table enjoyed it so much. The show was so funny. It truly is interactive with the audience, and everyone in the audience was laughing throughout the event. I would highly recommend this for a group!

Great place. Dinner they're is corny as hell but lots of fun. The family style food is old school Italian and delicious. Great for small to medium groups.

We went for Christmas party it's supposed to be 7 courses more like 7 sides.Food quality terrible but the show was good.

Not a place I would recommend for eating in Northville. The one time I went there the food was less than mediocre. The lighting is way too dark and gives a weird atmosphere. I will definitely not be back here.

Great atmosphere and location! Some of the servers were great and really sweet. Others seemed a little annoyed. The food was good, a little bland, but well-prepared. The prices seem high per head for a party. I would like to see something other than iceberg lettuce used in the salad, and personally, I think they could get a little more creative in their courses. I get that they're trying to be family homestyle, but it was a little too typical... Chicken noodle soup, anti-pesto salad, pasta, roasted potatoes and zucchini, and roasted chicken. But, everyone left with a full tummy and happy memories.

Fun place... Great with a group... Good for date night..... You get all you can eat however, dinner was a bit rushed prior to the show. The pasta was outstanding, everythig else in my opinion was ok. My wife loved everything. The staff was very friendly and helpful yet they rushed dinner as they said "we dont want to rush you, but can we take this" one server passed the pasta out table to table without saying a word. They kept things moving like a "family" dinner would be. So overall nice place, good food and fun time.

Wonder place to take employee's for our holiday party. I also went there with my husband's company for his work party. Food was outstanding and the environment was so welcoming. Great for catering too. Must try the susage and peppers

Genitti's is one helluva place. My experience was unexpected so please bare with my sensationalization. By the looks of the other reviews, the hype is matched. I attended with a group from a conference. I knew there was dinner and entertainment but I didn't know there was DINNER and ENTERTAINMENT. The Meat and Potatoes: Drinks are served with simplicity, nothing fancy although one of my comrades mentioned the heavy stock of margarita mix, so I assume that is a house speciality. Our starter was an Italian (as were all dishes) soup. I wish I could tell you what type of pasta it was and the flavor but the only thing I remember is deliciousness. The base was so comforting and warm, there were onions and a few other things but not much. This could have been my complete meal and I'd have left happy. I wanted two bowls but I was then notified of the seven courses up ahead. I did have another serving since they brought out a wonderful basket of bread that married the soup. Not a bad idea. The next course was salad. My comrades had an antipasto salad which they all ate, loved and could not finish. I had a typical garden salad. The iceberg (which I typically detest) was crisp and cold but not icy. The cucumbers were plenty along with other odds and ends. The croutons were crisp and the Italian dressing was zesty and flavorful. I wanted to finish my salad but my stomach wanted to know what was next. THEN, PASTA, the first pasta dish was for the entire table, the white creamy sauce was reminiscent of an Alfredo but tasted nothing like anything my tongue could recall with the name Alfredo. Penne pasta with creamy sauce and another batch of bread. I was ready to unbutton and stretch out on the couch. The next course was a plate of roasted vegetables. OH MY zucchini, carrots, squash and others were seasoned and well roasted to give my mouth something to love. The potatoes, the POTATOES YES, HAVE them. My carnivorous comrades had Italian sausage with onions, green peppers and veggies. I wanted to have a bit(e) but I could not tease my palate with anything I couldn't stomach. WAIT there's more. My meaters (meat eaters) were served Italian steak (pork loin) that no one was too enthusiastic about. Meanwhile I was served another pasta dish with vegetables. Same penne pasta but completely different sauce. I was rather disappointed, I fell in love with the first sauce. This was nice but at this point my stomach's bloat offered too much flavor for me to enjoy. I sipped my Jack Daniels in hopes of burping more room into my system. I did so successfully. So I ate more. Desert was a cannoli. I'd heard of them but never had the pleasure of the taste. I was in for a treat that night. (All puns intended, they're puny to me.) (Yes I am this corny.) My comrades boasted that the cannolis tasted home made. I wouldn't know the difference they were just good. Which brings me to the entertainment. An interactive stage play executed well by all the actors and audience. I won't spoil the show for any of you but if you're annoyed by my subtle puns and my corny food euphemisms the show won't be on for you. I laughed most of my dinner calories off. The theater was pretty large, perfect for a party. It was cold but you can bring spirited drinks from the bar inside. Unfortunately I'm writing this review almost a week after my visit so I cannot remember all the nuances of my meal. I assure you I will return with friends.

I am an event designer from Seattle, WA. We chose Genitti's to do our parents 65th wedding anniversary. Whenever you plan an event from out of state it's always a little scary for both parties involved. I didn't know them and they didn't know me... I must say...that did not last but 2 minutes...because I now feel like I am part of their family! From the minute I walked through the door it was nothing but over the top service. Laura and her staff are so accommodating, professional and lots of FUN!!! I was impressed so much by the personal service I received from everyone. Our guests LOVED everything about the experience...the great service, the fabulous food, the theatre...I only wish I could work with this crew on a regular basis! I'm not one to write reviews...but I wanted to make sure I took the time to do this one!

We love going here! The food is great and there is so much of it! The dinner theater is always a hoot (even if I did have to get up on stage and sing!). Don't worry, you can be a fuddy-duddy and refuse to participate (my husband did).

Took my sister here today as a Christmas treat! They had an 11:30 performance of their Christmas play, a take on the holiday party at a local IT firm. Food was great, service even better (we got a table for us two and we didn't have to share!), and the play was as funny as an elf sliding down a candy cane into a bowl of spiked punch! Go, go, go! It's a great way to kick off the season! Oh, and they even have cocoa with whipped cream!!!!

Wife and I went here yesterday for the first time for a wedding. The food was pretty good. We loved the salad, chicken pastina, and chicken alfredo. We wouldn't recommend the breaded steak and potatoes but the service definitely made up for it. The staff was very kind and was always checking tables to see if anyone needed drinks from the bar.

Prepare to be stuffed. You think the meal is ending... but no - it just keeps getting better! We have the pleasure of going to Genitti's every year for my husband's holiday party. The food is CONSISTENTLY wonderful - from the chicken noodle soup (my personal fave) to the creamy canoli's served for dessert, pack your fat pants before you head to dinner here - you'll want to unbutton and make room for more. Dinner theater is always so funny and has left me in tears on a number of occasions. Makes for a great night out for friends or coworkers for something a little bit different. Can't wait to go back !

We have used Genitti's two times for different company events. The staff is so friendly and accommodating you will seriously think you are family. Great atmosphere and unique. The food is served family style and keeps coming. The play was super funny and entertaining. A member of our party showed up late and missed dinner. The staff went above and beyond by putting together a quick meal without hesitation Totally can do! Great value and great time. Get a group together and go. We took 75 people but there was also a group of 10 there.

I love Genitti's! I have been here for a few dinner theaters. The food is wonderful, as if grandma herself is back in the kitchen cookin up a storm! And the shows are always hilarious. My husband and I need to go again! Always a good time! They also rent out a room for parties, I haven't had an opportunity to have them cater yet, but I am always on the look out when I can.. Have to make up some excuse to celebrate!

Great venue for company or lager family gatherings. Went with my company this past week. We enjoyed a great meal and even greater time afterwords with the floor show. Dinner is served family style, nothing was too over the top quality wise but the courses were prepared very well. My favourite was a toss up between the breaded pork cutlets & the sausage & peppers. Now onto the floor show... It was campy (which made it fun) but definitely geared towards adults. The interaction with the crowd was playful & light hearted, our group walked away with a ton of great memories of the evening. (If you have to plan an event, call them!!!)

  • Kelly M.

We thoroughly enjoyed the ENTIRE evening at Genitti's. When they say "family style" I think it's because you FEEL like family. The staff was amazing....never missed a beat keeping up with food, drinks and all the little "extras". We never went without, that's for sure. I don't know how they prepare all that food and pull it off as though you were in grandma's kitchen....delicious!!! The theatrical show was the icing on the cake (or cannoli in this instance) EVERYTHING was superb!

  • Eamon K.

My wife and I ate here with a company party. The 7-course dinner was very good, especially the Alfredo sauce! Everyone enjoyed the interactive comedy show. This was an excellent place for a company outing, much better than a lame banquet hall.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
