Days Gone by Bed & Breakfast

My husband surprised me with a weekend trip to the Leelanau Peninsula and chose Days Gone By Bed and Breakfast in Northport, MI for our stay. We were originally going to spend most of our time in Traverse City, so we were disappointed to be 30 minutes out from the city. However, we had such an amazing time exploring Northport, Sutton's Bay, Old Fishtown, and other small cities off of the M-22 loop that we never even ventured to Traverse City! Jane and Jack are the owners of the B&B and are so nice. They did an amazing job making us feel welcomed, but still giving us our space to enjoy one another. The house is a historic building in Northport and the décor is consistent with that. Even though it is an older home, it is well taken care of and updated to accommodate guests. There is a very cool old fireplace out back and they allow guests to sit at the fire in the evening. Jane always had a serving tray filled with ingredients for smores waiting for us. She even had bug spray for us. They also have a mini fridge filled with water and pop for guest to enjoy. Jane is a phenomenal cook and we enjoyed the breakfast she prepared both mornings. She presents it beautifully and gives you plenty. Overall, we were just so pleased with our stay and loved meeting Jane and Jack. I would highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast!

The Garage Bar & Grill

108 Waukazoo St
Northport, 49670
Reviews:
It's a bar built into an old garage, though they don't really play it up at all. I didn't even notice the garage door until I was on the way out. I'm not sure if that says more about the place or about me, but there you have it. Food was pretty good, it seems to be a nice little local joint for folks to hang out and shoot the breeze. I'd go back, without protest.
Amazing BBQ! The Pit-Master was baptized at the famous "Salt Lick," in Austin, TX. Having lived in Austin awhile back, and having been lucky enough to eat at one of the "Salt Lick" locations, my husband and I can both report that the BBQ Beef Brisket is pretty darn close and worth the trip! It is hands down the BEST BBQ we have had anywhere in Michigan! They also have amazingly good Pulled Pork and BBQ Ribs. The Tandoori Chicken salad is also quite excellent if you can pass up the BBQ options!!! However, while the Brisket is on the permanent menu, it isn't always available for dinner, so call ahead if that is what you have a real hankering for. There is nothing worse than driving an hour or more for something you are craving and can't get anywhere else and then finding out you can't have it. The place is northern Michigan country hip, if there is such a style. Though on the small side, they have an additional outdoor seating area, which is revealed in the warm season when they raise the actual "garage" door up, very cool. A small bar takes up about a third of the interior space, but Northport is a very small town, so probably perfect for all the locals year round. A bit on the noisy side, so if you want a quiet meal, save this place for another time.
Really great food and a good selection of craft beers. Prices are reasonable. Atmosphere is hip casual. Definitely a Northport favorite.

The North End Eatery

Reviews:
Average breakfast place. Positives include having chorizo as an ingredient choice for omelettes and seating for a largish group. But service was a bit surly, pancake not special despite the description, and hot chocolate watery.
I hope this review wakes up the kltchen at the North End Eatery. Breakfast was way overpriced for the smallest portion of food I have ever received for a breakfast order. Airplanes offer larger portions for breakfast. We got barely one scrambled egg on a minuscule amount of black beans between two small corn tortillas with boiled potatoes. This breakfast for two, with no toast, one drink each, a side order of two very small pieces of bacon was $35. We left hungry and went across the street to the bakery. I know this is a tourist town, but really....never again.
Went for breakfast and was shocked when the bill came. Way too expensive, 2 adults and 2 kids and the bill was over $50. Everything was extra. Waitress brought the kids more juice and charged for each glass. Did not tell us they did not get refills. The food was good but nothing to write home about, except the pancakes. They were great! I cannot afford to have breakfast here again.

Lelu Cafe

109 W Nagonaba St

Reviews:
On my way up to the lighthouse, I decided to stop and give Lelu a try based on the modern looking sign in front. I was kind of sick of regular hamburger type establishments in Northern Michigan, so this was a welcome choice in restaurants. The interior was very well decorated, very modern but still warm and it had a large piece of cloth running along the ceiling that was reminiscent of a ships mast. What I'm trying to say is that the decor fit the area, but more chic. The prices were a bit high, so I just ordered a turkey sandwich with a pickle. The ingredients were from local farms. It was kind of spicy and the bread was good. It was a solid meal. They have local wines and other beverages too, but I didn't order any because I wanted to save room for dessert. I had a cherry pie, which Lelu orders from another locally owned bakery. And it was delicious. I would definitely recommend this place if you want a nicer meal, and are sick of eating some of the less than fresh or bland meals at other restaurants in Northern Michigan. The only thing I would change about this place is that when I walked in I wasn't greeted and I had no idea where to sit. A sign or something would've helped.
Great food, great prices and music too - can't be beat!
An amazing addition to an amazing town. I'd have to agree with all the positive reviews on here. I was a little skeptical after the one star review but trust me, don't let one bad review stop you from attending this gem. Bryon is an amazing chef and I second the BEST sausage gravy ever. I love that they support local farms, businesses, musicians, breweries etc. Lelu cares about sourcing locally and it shows in their execution, menu creation and business model as a whole. Lelu is a must try if near the peninsula.

Won't go back. Older woman behind counter was rude!!! Hope she wasn't owner, if so, shame on her. If not she should be fired. Young girl working beside her looked scared to death to be working with her so maybe she was. Bakery wasn't that special to get another visit and I go to Northport every year.
First thing's first, if you are in Northport you MUST make a stop at Barb's. You should get a couple cinnamon twists and a couple cherry (or other fruit) danishes and try and pick which is your favorite because they are both amazing!! But definitely make sure to get there early!! Those two run out particularly fast. Delicious!!!
Yummy, yum, yum! We had one of the best old fashion donuts ever! And the cinnamon twisty thing was out of this world. Coffee... eh... I'd skip it next time! But 2 baked goods and a cup of coffee for $3.XX? It's a steal!

This place has such promise. You can really tell they put money into it. Really nice decoration and fixtures. The concept is great: restaurant, bar, arcade, gorgeous bowling alley. We went for trivia. The problem I see is the lack of customers. We went at 5:30pm on a Wednesday in early March. Not "season" but was surprised that were literally their only customers for at least 30 minutes. Staff tried but seemed like this was their first service job. I hope they increase their business to fill the massive space. BTW: it's important to know that THEY HAVE A NEW CHEF. I was extremely hesitant to eat there b/c of the review on yelp, but things have changed. Creative, good fare.
Don't bother. Over breaded perch (said light dusting on menu), soggy lukewarm fries (we returned them and got fresh batch), average chicken wings. Turkey club sandwich also lousy. Noisy and full of kids. Next time I'll follow my instincts and not listen to friends and go to Garage Bar & Grill.
We came out for dinner to participate in trivia. We had read the Yelp reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised. The place was clean, service friendly, and food good. The owner came around to our table to make sure everything was ok. Contrary to previous Yelp reviews, they did have free refills and traditional, delicious tomato based pizza sauce.
