I've eaten at Olfactory Hue many times. Always with great service . I really like how the menu changes with updates on the chefs choices. The freshness of the food is always a great thing compared to most restaurants around, especially those who favor opening a can or taking pre-made freezer products out of a box. The chef always favors local ingredients when available. I would recommend it to anyone, and I do.

This was back in 2012, but I remember it like it was yesterday. I have to say I was disappointed with the way one of the servers acted. I stopped in to discuss a catering job they were going to do for me (another bad experience, which is next). I ran into an old friend who was having lunch there. About 20 minutes before their 3 pm closing the girl actually shut off the lights and didn't say a word that it was near closing. We were sitting there in the dark still trying to comprehend what she was doing and was shocked. She just gave her the bill and wanted us out all the while getting her purse and jacket. Still didn't say anything, like sorry that I'm closing early or thank you for dining. She was right on us when we walked out with her, and quickly locked the door and left. That should've been my hint to cancel my catering with them. I'm thinking, I just gave you over $2,000 for a catering job and you shut the lights off with no warning. How rude. I specifically asked the owner's assistant if will have enough food for the party and I feared I should have more. She kept insisting I didn't need to. We ran short at the party. The rib-eye was thin sliced beef and very dry, though it was tasty from comments I got from the guests. The chicken breast was bland. The dessert went flat and was a soupy mess, as it was some chocolate chiffon/soufflé thing. I questioned whether it would hold up at a banquet type setting with the heat/humidity for that time of year (Aug.). I was assured it would be fine. I was so embarrassed and felt I wasted money. Also, it took nearly 3 weeks before the owner's assistant sent me an e-mail thanking me for hiring them. Not professional at all. For the money that I was charged, I really felt they would have more class. I never got to speak to the owner even when I asked to. I was only allowed to deal with the assistant. I wondered if she was hiding something from the owner? The assistant told me how they were just starting the catering and really wanted and needed my business, almost begging to have the chance because they could use the money to help supplement the restaurant's needs and other ventures. I wanted to help them out because I believe in helping out local businesses and new business owners get a chance. Never again.

NO NEVER EVER again. I was so looking forward to what was reviewed as a good food place. That excitement turned from "well, they are understaffed" to "meh" to "wothehell" to p.o.'d. There was only one server. She wasn't able to do anything even a busy server can do.She forgot my diet coke. After 5 minutes, I was able to catch her attention once again and remind her once again about the diet coke. When finally brought, it was flat, no carbonation. I left it on the other side of the table so it would be noticed as she passed by. NO she didn't. I waved, finally caught her sight (remember I have been waiting while she goes by our table to other tables) explained about the flat coke, asked for coffee as substitute. As to our meals: ..the croissant was solid-over toasted such that it crumbled with each bite. Chicken salad was acceptable- no special flavour and chips were made by a food service. Small bit of macaroni at side of plate tasted on the edge of turning &/or had too much mayo. Cajun club was again on a "meh?" bread, and not seasoned as stated, lacking in flavour but edible. AT this point we were thinking "well, maybe this is a bad day. We might give it a second chance". Flaggged down waitress after 5 minutes, REminded her of missing coffee. When it was brought to table, my black coffee was the same temperature as my coke...cold. not iced coffee, just leftover unheatedcoffee. Put coffee again to edge of table. I hoped that she would NOW notice. Nope. Now I am perturbed, I just wanted a quiet tasty lunch. Now becoming troubled by inept service and pissy poor coke and pissy coffee, not willing to trust even their water. Getting to point where we will not try this place again. (we always give at least three chances). We "finished" our meals. Cook/owner stopped by and asked if we liked our meal. I said it was o.k., but the coke was flat, the coffee cold. She smilingly said "well then what would you like instead?" I stated we were at end of meal so nothing! Waitress brought bill...and I was charged for the drinks. Go figure. They have been in business long enough to be able to smoothly deal with all of these plus. Not going back.

Every time we come to town to visit Dad...we want to come here for a fabulous lunch. Everything I've had is so good. And what a neat environment. I remember the old Thayer jewelry store. I'm so glad you kept the beautiful wood cases and shelves.

Visited this restaurant for the first time today. The menu offered a wonderful variety of fresh choices. I selected the Strawberry Fields salad with chicken, which was tasty but small. The chicken was shredded and there was not much of it. Also, there were only a few crumbles of the goat cheese. Unfortunately, I was still hungry after the $8+ salad. To be successful, I believe this restaurant must offer larger portions or reduce their prices. I want to support local business but I don't think I will be back.

Local chef Daysha Amster expanded her catering business and recently opened Olfactory Hue Bistro (named after a Phish song) in downtown Niles, MI. We had been talking about trying it for a while and finally made it for an early lunch one Friday. The place is cute although the decor didn't do much for me; however, the food more than makes up for it. The menu is relatively small, but there are typically daily specials. The chef believes in local, organic, sustainable food. My fiance ordered the open face steak sandwich with sauteed mushrooms and onions. He loved it although he didn't care too much for the slaw on the side (which I loved). I ordered the croque monsier which was perfectly done with ham, cheese and bechamel. Also served with the slaw, which was light with a very unique flavor. We look forward to making it back soon!

Love this little joint for lunch. Very good food, quiet, good service. A little slice of Heaven in Niles, Mi.

This place continues to amaze. The grilled cheese and tomato bisque I had for lunch was just perfect for a rainy day like today. You can tell that the food at Olfactory is made with lots of love. Healthy, nourishing and delicious! Will go back again and again. The next supper club looks awesome too. I've never been to one but I think I'll try it.

Went here because the YELP reviews were so good. It was great. Wife had Chilaquilas and I had the farmhouse hamburger. Both were really good. Had blueberry lemon cheesecake for desert. It was also very good. I put a copy of the menu on, the description of the meals are on the menu. Meals are very reasonably priced, the Resturant was clean and we had great service.

Wonderful food, service is attentive but not overly-so, and the decor and ambience is absolutely lovely. A jewel in Niles.

I really want to like this place (the owner is very sweet) but every time I get food there it is disappointing. I don't even know where to start. The waitresses who work there are not very attentive, and at my most recent visit our server actually brought me the wrong order. The fried potatoes were so over-cooked, they were like rocks. The scone would have been good but it was right out of the refrigerator and ice cold. I'm not saying every scone has to be fresh from the oven, but maybe pop them in a warmer? The eggs just weren't good, the cheese was a greasy, rubbery mass on top. I think perhaps the food was prepared ahead and then left overnight. Such a bummer, I want to like this place, but I can't. I also recommend avoiding the food stand at the Y. I ate there a few times, and the last time I had the chicken salad. It was tasty, but I was sick a few hours later. Thank you so much for using locally sourced food. I really hope things improve. Maybe the owner is trying to do too many things at once? Focus on doing one thing really well, and I think this place has the potential to be the best!

A very nice little café in downtown Niles. We had a late lunch, with great burgers and wraps. Owner operated and with locally sourced ingredients, this place was once a jewelry shop. A gem!

My husband and I finally visited this wonderful restaurant. I can honestly say I had one of the best burgers ever. .. the farmhouse is to die for! The beef is excellent, the cheese melty and not lost on the sandwich, and best of all the green chiliesmake this great burger even more amazing! My husband had a Finnish pot pie and practically licked his bowl clean. We ended with lemon blueberry cheesecake fresh ot of the oven. The owner/chef and all of her team could not have been nicer. We are looking forward to attending one of their specialty dinners and are only sad that it took us so long to visit this gem!

Stopped for a Thursday might dinner. My daughter had a Guinness pie which was great but without a pastry crust. Service was wonderful place darling. For long time locals, it was the old Thayer's jewelry store. Still had the great old display cases along the wall. Stop by. I'll be returning!

What a great find! Nine of us from a bus trip enjoyed lunch here today, and as far as I know, everyone was very pleased. Our group enjoyed the green eggs and ham, fritatta lorraine, spinach quesadilla, and I loved the tomato bisque and chicken salad on a croissant. The home-made potato chips with that were outstanding, and my friend raved about the home-made salsa with the quesadilla. Fresh ingredients, home-made food. What else can I say? We also all got a complementary house salad with a very nice poppy seed dressing. The owner was super-nice, in a bind because a waiter didn't show up, but she handled it VERY well, and kudoos to her! You can not leave without tasting the lemon-blueberry cheesecake.....yes, die for. We will be back!

We had brunch today and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I had the Chilaquiles which was very good and my wife had the burger on a pretzel bun. She also liked it. We had the blueberry lemon cheesecake which was excellent and a very generous portion.

Had the chilaquilas which were top notch. The croque Madame was serviceable, i expected a higher quality ham than what was served. This place is better than most but I feel the chef could do so much more to step up her game and make the dishes really stand out. OHB, as a culinary leader in a small town, has an obligation to stretch the boundaries and be more inventive. I will return to see if there is progress.

This review is about the food. I'm not going to talk about how ridiculous and pretentious the name of this place is, or about how annoying their cloying little wagon logo and the "sustainable" looking font on their t-shirts are. Or what a shame it is that they've so grossly mis-decorated the incredible space in which they're located. Or how tired I am of faintly condescending restaurant slogans telling me to do something... That's all very secondary, and people can do whatever the hell they want to decorate and promote their business. All the oppressive new-agey-ness immediately transforms into a tolerable, unintentional farce as soon as you taste one morsel of Daysha's outstanding cuisine. It's simply the best and most creative around here. Maybe a little stingy on the portion size, but a glutton like me will never be satisfied. --The Watermelon Gazpacho soup was incredible. It has a very nice fermentation going on, but is still exceptionally fresh. --Nana's Cucumber Salad was very simple and nice... the cucumbers were obviously high quality and the dill sauce was perfect. --Chilaquiles were just so damn good. Perfect combination of flavors, perfect texture, perfect presentation. I just wish there'd been twice as much on the plate, but I'm a pig so whatever. --The French Toast was also very tasty, despite the fact that the mango and macadamia nut content was negligable. In conclusion, this place rules and you must make a trip to beautiful downtown Niles to try it for yourself.

Had lunch there with friends at 12:30 on 11 Jan 2013. It deserves all of the accolades mentioned by others. The beef barley soup and pork schnitzel were absolutely special. I've recommended the owner/chef to the faculty at Ivy Tech Community College. Others need to learn from her. They do accept reservations. I made one, and so did the Red Hat ladies nearby.

Hands down the best meal I've had in michiana in the last three weeks. Unusual hours, but go check it out. You'll not be disappointed, tell you friends this place will become a destination place for excellent food in Niles. there is an area for kids to express themselves. great flavors and resonable prices and I don't think there was one fried item on the menu.

I had read about this place and was anxious to try it. It's in an old jewelry store on Main Street in Niles. You have open shelved display cases on the walls with old wooden drawers under them. There's art on the walls, but pretty spartan decoration-wise. Nice new black tables and chairs and what looked like an area for kids to make pictures. I came in liking having a restaurant in Niles that used organic local ingredients with some new ideas on the menu. Our server was friendly, and I ordered coffee at 7:30 PM which was nonetheless very good. It's the restaurant's own blend I gather. I ordered the Waterzooi with chicken. It was excellent. My wife ordered Creamy Chicken Cavatappi. Also excellent. My only criticism would be that a) the portions were small for the price, and b) a couple slices of bread would have gone a long way toward rounding out the meal, and probably made the portion size less of an issue. I'll definitely keep coming back, because I'd hate to lose this place. It was pretty empty when we came in but it started filling up right before they closed at 8PM, which was good to see.
