Horrible! I expect to pay a bit more for the experience but the prices here are ridiculous. Since the new owners took over its gone way down hill. 9.25 for 2 chicken tenders and some fries that were limp. 6.50 for 6 chicken nuggets and a milk! Please for the love of God don't go here.

The only reason I give it above one star is because they have excellent corn dogs and Chicago dogs. The manager on duty was a complete ass to us. The customer service is one aspect they fail miserably at here.

Go coney dog or go home! I love the coney dogs here. The only thing that could improve the coney dog is two coney dogs. I guess the root beer float would improve it is as well and they are tasty too.

It's difficult to mess up a root beer float, and the one here was good. Chicken tenders and fries were also pretty good. Service was a tad slow.

Saw the comments about the bad service and was a bit worried, but I have to say it really was fine. I mean, this is an old A&W-style (or Mel's from "American Graffiti") kind of Drive-In, so short of not delivering the food, you don't have a ton of interaction with staff anyway. Food was delivered quickly, service was friendly. The Chili though....OMG the chili. This is lip-smacking, smack-your-mama-it's-so-good chili on the coneys!

Not a ton to say about this place, other than its a great old fashioned type of drive in. Order through a speaker and the waitress brings your food. Great root beer!! You must order one. The food was good, fast food type of stuff. Nothing gourmet but if you come here expecting a quick family fast food type of place you'll be happy! P.S. There's a great view so sit at the picnic table and enjoy it while you eat!

Decent drive-in diner. Basically fried foods, but they do have good lake perch. Non-standard soda drink flavors and shake/malts are also available. Nice outdoor seating along the river (in good weather).

Friendly staff and a clean environment to have a family dinner. Similar to A&W, the food is absolutely delicious! I had the jumbo shrimp and fries with orange cream soda, it was to die for!!! I will definitely visit again if I am in Montague.

Great drive-in for a quick meal on the go! Hot dogs, fries and root beer were delicious! Excellent prices too!

The food was at best mediocre. We had the tenderloin, which is more like a big chicken patty (we were hoping for the thin, crispy Texas-style). The barbecue pork sandwich was ok. The fries were ok, but the onion rings were good. We had milkshakes, and they were very good. We felt the prices were a bit much for the amount of food you get. Overall, we were not impressed, but we may return for a milkshake.

We stopped to eat at this Dog and Suds at the end of July as the start to our family vacation. The following is a portion of a private facebook conversation with someone from the company who would never give their name. It was unbelievably bad service. Based on this, I won't go to another Dog and Suds as long as I live. "We just left the Montague, Michigan Dog and Suds. Let me begin by saying that my family and I just drove out of our way to go to your restaurant, and were treated horribly. We were scolded for having 5 people on our order, and received attitude when we did not order as quickly as the man on the speaker wanted us to. He ended up hanging up on us. When asked to speak to someone about this issue, to confirm whether our order had been placed or not, one of the waitresses told us that it was the manager that was on the phone and did not want to speak to us right away. We waited awhile, and ended up leaving with no food because no one would help. I have never in my life been treated with such disrespect at a restaurant. I worked in the fast food industry for a few years, and I would have been fired on the spot if I ever spoke to a customer like you did. I am extremely disappointed about this situation, and will not hesitate to contact corporate about your awful service." Dog and Suds response-What did he say just before he hung up? Was it that they were extremely busy and if you wern't quite ready to order, that he would have to have you push the button again when you were? That he must keep the flow of orders going, that is his job? That it was not a personal thing, it was a drive-in/business decsion? That we depend on customers to have looked at the menu and made their decisions BEFORE they press the button? That even demanding to speak to the manager would disrupt the other customers during times of extremely busy conditions? Did he also have time to mention that a restaurant like Dog n Suds is not fast food? That our food is all cooked to order and a reasonable amount of time is required to ensure you will be happy with your meal?? That a place like ours does not have the archectual features of modern resuaurants that keep people from cutting in line and treating others with respect and decency? That a place like ours depends on customers to be understaning and cooperative that it is our desire to stay as original as possible which requires they to treat our staff and our facility with care? That if we allow our customers to treat us like fast food (to use your words) that we will no longer be unique and an experience that many more understanding families want us to be? If he didn't have the time to say all these things, thanks for giving me the opportunity to clear things up for you. The Manager you speak of has been with this brand since the mid 1960's. He has contributed more to our brand than most others and has the history and experience that we all benefit from. His family is well respected within our company and I am quite sure that if there was an issue over service, there must be more to the story than you describe. I would be happy to contact him after labor day and discuss this in greater detail if you so desire. But I will not bother them with any such thing until after labor day. Thank You. My response, but not the end of the conversation It went on and on, with never an apology given....To clear things up, as you so describe, is that we were patiently waiting to order and had been waiting. When it was our turn, we were each ordering at the speaker and my son had a question about what was in the basket. The manager immediately became almost verbally abusive. I have truly never experienced anything like it. He hung up on us before my son was finished. I walked up to check to see if our order had even been placed, due to his hanging up. We were again waiting until he was done taking orders, which was fine, but when he was finished, he turned his back on us, knowing we were waiting, Completely ignoring us. I understand the uniqueness of your type of restaurant, which is why we went there. BUT, you ARE a service oriented business and this service was horrendous, no matter what excuses you make. If he has been involved as long as he had and had the complete disregard for customer service , then maybe he needs to retire.

I am a fan of Dog n Suds, but I don't go there often since I feel that they charge a premium for ambience. It is a cute place and the intercom ordering is very charming, as well as the carhop service and trays. I do, however, wish that there was a simple walk up window because sometimes I would love to just get an order of their fries (hot, crispy, thin and well seasoned...yum) but with tip and waiting time, it just isn't worth it for me most the time. The food is good quality and always served piping hot, so for visitors to the area, it is a great place to enjoy a quality "fast food" type meal in a fun setting. As for me, my parents live there and say that the locals do not frequent the place very often, so I only go on occasion.

Dog-N-Suds is a true classic. They just don't make them like this any more. Here's the deal: you drive there in your car, park, and order food from the side of the room. Food will be delivered to you in your car in a prompt fashion. You will salivate over your burgers and fries and attempt not to drip it into your car. It is fabulous. Sure, the food is fast food, but it's also greasy goodness. My family used to come here every summer when we vacationed in the area, and it was always truly fabulous. A&W may be gone, but Dog-N-Suds remains... and it sure beats Sonic's!

Always a great throw-back when you can get a carhop to come out and wait on you under the canopy! love the dogs, and love the suds. Gotta suck down a rootbeer float whenever I am in the area.

This old school Dog-N-Suds is absolutely PERFECT for a true hot dog or root bear float enthusiast! We come here every year on vacation with much excitement. First of all the location is right on White Lake (My family has actually taken our boat and used there dock to tie up) Menu highlights as follows: Coney Cheese Dog Onion Rings Rootbeer Float (This is hands down the best float I have ever had)

Fun and decent throwback place but customer does not come first here. When asked for a replacement hot dog with no onions, I was refused and told it was my fault. While this may have been accurate, what happened to putting the customer first. The manager was argumentative and difficult. I still like the place but service is a disappointment.

I've visited both Muskegon County locations and they offer identical food experiences but are different in other ways. I have never been impressed with their fries but their onion rings are quite munch-worthy. Their coney and chicago dogs are tasty and probably my top recommendation. As a burger fan, I haven't been wowed by theirs, but that's made me meander around the menu and try some good stuff, like their pork BBQ or tenderloin sandwiches (yum!). With lots of picnic tables near the river and White Lake, eating outside at the Montague location is superior to the Grand Haven Road location. As for value, I always walk away feeling I've paid a buck or two more than expected, but you do pay a bit for the experience. Long story short, most of their menu is good with a few exceptions, being outdoors in your car/at a picnic table in Montague is your best (and only!) bet. Plus, bring a few extra dollars if you're hungry!

Great place to visit in the summer. Bring the family. Bring lots of $. Not the cheapest place but worth the novelty.

Restaurant refuses polite, respectful service to patrons with food allergies In the past month, this restaurant owner (yes, the owner himself - the rest of his staff was quite polite, although embarrassed by his behavior) has refused to serve my family when we asked for simple substitutions (no bun, wipe the grill before cooking), in order to make the meal safe for our milk allergic child. The entire encounter included the restaurant owner coming out of the cooking area & into the parking lot where he berated me for ordering food from his restaurant. We have, since, met another family who was treated rudely by the restaurant owner twice - once in the past few weeks, once a year ago, when asking for buns without sesame seeds in order to make the food safe for their children who are allergic to sesame. Ironically, the restaurants website & facebook page say that they take great pride in serving food that is 'cooked to order'. Seems a bit of an empty promise, after our encounters. And, because this is a tourist area, with many people just travelling through, and because this happened to both of us, unknown to each other until we met afterwards on the internet, I wouldn't be surprised if this restaurant *never* treated food-allergic customers with respect & dignity. If you have had a similar experience with them yourself, I'd love to hear about it. You can contact me at eatingwithallergies@yaho… Less
