We were visiting Monroe and this restaurant was highly recommended on YELP. Food was fresh and delicious and the manager and wait staff made us feel welcome and served us well. We had the pulled pork and the public house breakfast.

Very nice local food. Very nice wait staff. Prices are very reasonable. Just perfect portion sizes. Would come here again. I wish the restaurant had been here when I lived in Monroe.

Fantastic find thanks to yelp. Passing through on the tail end of a very long road trip and this was a pleasant surprise. Ordered the Cuban sandwich and it was out of this world. Often when I see house made chips I just pass, but these were fantastic. My fiancé ordered the chicken and waffles which was amazing as well. Excellent service as well from Rashell. She was very knowledgable and helpful. Top notch experience.

My mom and I decided to try lunch here instead of going to our typical Ruby Tuesdays and I'm so glad we did! The inside is open and inviting and reminds me of Pinterest/Etsy shabby-chic: grey paint, teal accents, old fashion light bulbs, burlap curtains, chalk boards, and a big reclaimed wood farmhouse table; not something I expected to see in Monroe! The menu has some tasty apps, awesome salads (we split the large beet carrot salad for an app; great roasted flavor with quality balsamic vinegar, oil and cheese), a bunch of sandwiches I can't wait to try (French onion grilled cheese please!), a nice variety of entrees and most exciting to me: breakfast all day! (Chicken n waffles next time!) I picked the lobster mac n cheese, which was nice and smoky from the Gouda blend and served in the best little vessel for pasta! (No chasing noodles sliding around!) Mom got the lobster roll which was just addicting! Like a chicken salad style creamy dressing but with tender succulent lobster! Also a bonus was the good service and attention from the manager. We will definitely be back!

The very best in Monroe, this would be the best in any city. Their service is impecable and the food is amazing. Small menu, but more than worth it.

The prices are FANTASTIC and the food is positively delicious. My server, Hannah, was very pleasant and made my dining experience that much better. Give her a raise! I had the pulled pork hash and it far exceeded my expectations. I expected this to be just like everything else in Monroe - Poorly done. However, I was very surprised. The food can definitely keep up with any brunch spot in Detroit. This place is a must!

Travel to Monroe on business, THANK YOU George for opening a restaurant that provides fresh food, great beer, and wonderful service! This is one of the best menus in the region. Will definitely be back!!

Enjoyed breakfast here twice and was quite pleased with both visits! Service was warm and inviting and the food was delicious. Eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly, fruit cup was fresh and better than your average dish of underripe fruit cups often offered at restaurants. My daughter finished her waffle and asked for more! We will be back again and look forward to trying the rest of the menu!

We went for breakfast, after hearing mixed reviews from friends, we were curious. Very overpriced for breakfast in my opinion, but if the quality of the food had been better, the price wouldn't have mattered. My oatmeal was very dry, I had to add so much milk to it that it made it cold. My husbands and daughters over easy eggs were both on the crispy side. The waitress didn't really seem thrilled to be there either. All in all, I miss this being a Big Boys.

Came here for dinner on a Sunday evening. The food was excellent. According to the staff the ingredients are all fresh and sourced from local suppliers such as the Farmer's Market (which is right next door) and Calder's Dairy. I can believe that as everything was very fresh. We ordered two appetizers, two entrees, and two desserts. The only complaint was that my wife said that her roasted chicken was a little dry. That could have been because it was later in the day. Anyway, everything else was great and reasonably priced. It is great to have new restaurant in Monroe that has a menu with some true variety. We will definitely be back.

Great quality, fresh food and amazing homemade desserts that change regularly. A super friendly staff and nice atmosphere. A great addition to a town overpopulated by sports bars and pizza.

My husband and I try a new place for breakfast once a weekend, we visited Public House today.. The new decor was beautiful and the reasturant is clean and spacious, however we found there to be few breakfast selections that are truly overpriced to say the least. Breakfast included only one piece of toast for two eggs. Our daughter ordered a side of bacon, which cost $3.00 and all she was given was one piece of bacon cut in half.. Our breakfast bill for 3 people was as much as a lunch or dinner bill.. We will not be back!

We just moved to the area and have been looking for a breakfast place that isn't a chain, and is nicer than a diner. I enjoy a diner meal as much as anyone, but sometimes I crave something nicer. Public House doesn't look like much from the outside, but the decor inside is modern and welcoming. I had the southwest hash for breakfast, which is loaded with chunks of redskin potatoes, green pepper, and ground chorizo, topped with 2 fried eggs. I chose wheat toast, which was very tasty and came with whipped butter and strawberry jam. My only complaint was that my eggs were underdone. I asked for the white to be fully cooked, and they weren't. Runny whites really gross me out. My son had chicken and waffles. He enjoyed it. The waffles were cakelike and had great flavor. The chicken was very heavily breaded, but tasty and perfectly cooked. The syrup came warmed in a small pitcher, which is a touch I appreciate. I really like that they source local ingredients, even the milk is from a local dairy, and they make everything in house. We will be back for lunch or dinner soon!

Chicken and waffles very good. The chicken tenders were phenomenal. Sweet potatoes off sides menu good as well. Roasted chicken good for someone watching calories. Will be back when they get draft beer in a few weeks.

This place was a Big Boy in the past and now totally remodeled and it looks great. We did not really know what to expect when we visited recently and were very pleased. The service is great and the food and presentation was also very good. We will certainly visit again.

I recently ate here with some of the crew from Ghost Hunters on SyFy and the food was delicious! We all ordered something different from the menu late on a Sunday night. The service was polite and inviting. The atmosphere was chill and everyone was very happy with their food. If you are ever in this area I highly recommend dinner here.

From the outside this place looms lime a greasy spoon diner. From the inside it mostly looks the same minus one large reclaimed wood table with an interesting architectural light above it. But its not your standard diner. They do serve breakfast all day but it feels like that is more catering to the clientele. The menu is filled with standard but with a twist. They use aioli's and mashed cauliflower not to mention lots of other surprises. Also the wait staff is prompt, and knowledgeable of the menu and ingredients. I think the moto of this place should be under promise and over delivery. Or maybe looks are deceiving.

I have been to Public House twice in two days. Once for breakfast and once for dinner. The atmosphere of the restaurant is trendy and is definitely different from other restaurants in Monroe. Public House uses all local ingredients which is amazing and makes their food so fresh getting dairy and produce from local farms. Their menu is on the small side but more than sufficient. For breakfast I had the Public House omelet and coffee. The waitress Stephanie who is also a partner in the business was very friendly and attentive. She said that she makes all of the pastries and desserts from scratch which is great I think. The food was completely delicious and they even have homemade hot sauce and jellies. Overall breakfast was an amazing. When I returned for dinner the following evening I had the Michigan Cherry burger. It was served on a ciabatta bun with French fries. The fries were served with two dipping sauces. Make sure to get the garlic aioli! It's amazing. The burger was cooked to perfection and the cherry compote mixed like heaven with the blue cheese. Our waitress was Hannah and she was very kind and a great waitress. Much like breakfast, it was simply amazing. A nice touch I noticed was a family sitting and eating and I noticed one of the men got up and started going around to tables asking how their meal was. He was dining with his own family in his own restaurant. That's a nice touch and made the whole experience better. I feel like that's not seen much in restaurants. I will definitely be back to Public House and cannot wait to have their delicious food again!

Located in the middle of the main part of town, this great restaurant was so outstanding and welcoming that I ate there twice. Dinner was a light chicken Caesar salad, made perfect with grilled chicken. The highlight, though, was the conversation with George the owner. It was obvious that his passion for the community and pours into the menu. Went back for breakfast: the only thing more amazing than the thick cut bacon were the banana nut pancakes. Perfectly crisp on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside... Spectacular. My only wish is that I lived close enough to be a regular.

Swung in here off 75 as a last second alternative to Downtown Detroit. Excellent all the way around. Clean, modern look and food that exceeded expectations. Pulled pork nachos went over huge with the kids, and the sandwiches were excellent (grilled cheese & onion, pulled pork and public house burger were all devoured). Service was friendly and top-notch. The fries were great too. Can't say enough positive things about this place, wish it were closer to home.

Stopped in on a Saturday morning when I was off on a road trip. I had read such good reviews that I was excited to try it. I believe this restaurant used to be a Big Boy. The owners did a nice job of making it look more upscale/comfortable/modern. I came for breakfast. Breakfast is available all day. They have a few egg dishes, hash, waffles, pancakes and "crunchy" french toast. I opted for the french toast and a side of bacon. I believe the french toast is dipped in some type of cereal before it was fried. While it was pretty good, I believe it could have used a little bit more cinnamon and vanilla. The bacon was on the tough side, but you could tell it was good quality. It wasn't flimsy/thin bacon. The coffee was bad. Not very flavorful. It tasted like the coffee at a Big Boy. The thing that really disappointed me was the service. It was extremely slow. I think I heard someone say a waitress called in and they were short staffed. While I am sorry about that, it's not the customers fault. I felt I was treated like it was inconvenient for me to be there. Sorry. They did have a nice menu with an emphasis on bbq type dishes. Their desserts and baked goods (the muffin of the day was chocolate banana) sounded delicious, but due to the poor customer service, I won't be making another trip there.

I've been here a handful of times for early morning breakfast with my co-workers. The service is always friendly and coffee always flowing. Everyone here is always smiling. The crunchy French toast is pretty here, make sure to share with someone or you'll be hitting a sugar high 30 min later. I've also had the garden omelette. Other people in the party had the hash and they enjoyed it. Service is quick too, however, we likely come here during off peak hours. Solid breakfast food.

Went there for breakfast in a Sunday Morning. Ended up ordering the BBQ pulled pork sandwich with fries and Mac and cheese. After a few bites of the sandwich, I discovered some pieces of metal...in my mouth!! The waitress said it from the grill cleaning brush. Wow! I got the check and much to my dismay, the sandwich was still on the ticket. It's disappointing. Will never go back.

My husband and I stopped in on Sunday night en route to Detroit, based on rave reviews here and on Trip Advisor. The herb garden outside the front door showed attention to detail, as the herbs and flowers were thriving, colorful and healthy. The decor inside was pleasant and soothing. The menu whetted our appetites with promise of fresh and locally sourced foods, as many of the reviews had mentioned. They were not terribly busy, I counted 8 tables with customers, and there were two servers plus the friendly hostess seemed to be helping with delivering food to the larger tables with families of well-behaved and adorable children. Our server seemed a little disorganized. Perhaps we threw her off her game, as I was still perusing the menu and wine list while my husband was ready to order his meal. He ordered steak special which came with two sides. He ordered salad and Cole slaw for sides. I ordered a glass of the Michigan red wine blend, a bowl of onion soup, and a hamburger with feta cheese with field greens and ciabatta roll. She brought us two waters and promised the wine was coming. Next she delivered my soup. After I was halfway through the soup, (I decided not to let it cool while my husband awaited his salad) she brought my wine. Before I finished my soup, the rest of the food was delivered all at once. I continued to work on my soup, letting the hamburger cool off. My husband was not excited about the steak, which was a little tough and had excessive peppercorns. The special steak was not advertised as filet mignon, but could have been prepared in a way to tenderize it. His salad was delightful, with pickled beets and fresh field greens, and a Michigan cherry vinaigrette dressing. I wished I had upgraded my chips for a salad. My soup was delicious but the hamburger seemed a little dry. There was no mayonnaise, aioli or avocado butter offered, not even ketchup or mustard. So, altogether a mixed experience. This restaurant has a lot of potential and they do many things right. Unfortunately, the food and service were not at their best the night we visited.

I would probably give this a 3.5 star if it was an option. Most of the other reviewers are right- this is a really nice place that is going above and beyond your standard fare. I ordered carry out here 2x previously, and this was the first time I've been able to dine in. There were not many tables in the restaurant, and the manager sat us in a booth quickly and took our drink orders. Our server brought them to us, told us the specials, and said she'd be back to check get our order. Took a litlte bit longer than I'd like, but we were hungry and just excited to get our order in. I ordered the french onion soup, which they have daily. I'm not sure if it was because we were there right around noon so maybe it wasn't done yet, but it didn't have that "French Onion soup" taste. It was a bowl with a lot of onions, and it looked very light in color- like beef broth. There were 3 slices of french-style bread with melted cheese on top placed in the bowl. That was actually the best part. I wasn't too impressed with it, considering what most people expect when they order french onion. When our entrees came out, they were missing one of my sides along with my husband's. After a few minutes they were brought to our table. The server requested my husband cut his steak in front of her to check it's doneness. I understand why they would ask, but it's a little uncomfortable. They could have checked back after the first bite and got the same result. My chicken pot pie was a bowl of chicken soup with corn, peas, etc. with a crust on top. It was very watery soup, not chunky like most pot pies. The crust is just on top of the bowl, and I wasn't really wowed with my main entree choice. My sides of sweet potatoes and carrots were tasty. The manager came to our table to ask us how our meal was, but didn't notice the empty glass of water we had slid to the edge of the table (subtle hint that we need a refill). My husband had to ask him for a refill after asking us about our meal. My husband put a credit card on the end of the table, ready to be cashed out. The server ended up going back for the bill and bringing it to us before taking up the card. Seems like a waste of a trip- especially if she was feeling busy. These are small nit-picks, and it could just be a one-off seeing as other reviewers had better service- hopefully they can continue to grow and improve over time.

By far one of the best places around for REAL food! The service has somewhat of a team service feel which is always great, they serve with class & friendliness. Love their laid back farm-style outfits too! So far I have had their Pulled Pork main dish, my choice of sides were sweet potatoes and coleslaw. Everything pairs perfectly with each other, no need to grab for some extra salt, pepper or dipping sauces. The pulled pork was smokey & moist with amazing flavor, no sweetness or processed barbecue sauce that places usually pile on top to cover dry meat. I'm a coleslaw lover & it really caught my attention. I couldn't put my finger on the spices they used but was very impressed with it! No heavy mayonnaise or sugar just spicy and delicious! The sweet potatoes were chunks roasted with cranberries and brown sugar, you can never go wrong with that! I brought my fiancé their Cuban sandwich, he thought it was so delicious that I didn't even get a chance to try it! I'll be returning quite a few more times!

Just stopped by on a whim when traveling back from the Toledo Christmas lights. So glad we did! Before we even finished dinner, we were trying to think of an occasion for which we could return. We were greeted with a smile and a joke as soon as we walked in and were promptly seated. Nice open seating area, simply decorated. It wasn't very busy when we showed up, but our service was quick and friendly. We started with an order of fried pickles. Normally I won't order these if they're spears, as they tend to lose the breading at the first bite. But I decided to try anyway, and these were great! Nice fritter outside, breading stayed on really well, and they were served piping hot with a tasty aioli side. For main courses, I had the half chicken with the Mac and cheese and cornbread sides. Boyfriend went for the BBQ burger with fries. Everything was delicious, and the portions were good sized-- we both took home some leftovers. Wine and beer choices were limited, but the ones that were there were good. I really appreciated the ability to taste a wine before buying it, and the owner even offered small samples of some of their seasonal wines. All in all, the service was great and food was delicious. We'll be back!

Great space, kind people, local MI vibe with fresh squeezed OJ, local coffee, meats and veggies, total gem for the Monroe community. Great spot for breakfast. I had their pulled pork hash and it was delicious!

I've been to The Public House 4 times now. Every time has been excellent! What a great addition to Monroe! We have been in desperate need of a restaurant like this for years. I've had the Roast Chicken, Pulled Pork sandwich and the Chicken Pot Pie and they were all great. The sides are all delicious as well. The service has always been great too. The staff is very nice and helpful. I highly recommend this restaurant and plan to return very soon!

WOW! came here on the recommendation of a local and was not disappointed. Had the Mac & Cheese with pulled pork, fries with dipping sauces, and the beans... All of them were awesome! On top of that, they have a great beverage list and the prices are right on (I.e. Less than I expected!). Furthermore the service is great, owner is super cool, and all this, on a holiday where I'm away from home. Two

Our experience started out great with a friendly hostess. The space and art on the walls are beautiful. But my husband's chicken sandwich was under done and he was too shy to send it back. My salad was ok, just not much too brag about. This place seems to have a enormous potential, maybe we just came on an off night.

This is now the only restaurant I will eat at in Monroe. The menu is small, but that is a GOOD thing because it keeps the food at a higher quality! Most restaurants in this town rely on the large portion = quality philosophy. Public House doesn't fall into this trap. If you want more than the typical bland, beige garbage that Monroe restaurants usually offer, go to Public House!

Stopped in on our drive home from the Toledo Zoo because this was the highest rated spot on Yelp in the passing area. So glad we did! The atmosphere was very cozy and home-ey. The staff was personable and friendly. The menu wasn't huge but that appealed to us because everything they did have we knew was made fresh and from scratch. The food was excellent!! Notably - the chicken and waffles, they put kosher salt on the chicken and it really makes a difference! It was delicious! We also tried the salmon - super good! It was in a dill sauce - very light, fresh and tasty. Overall, very pleased with our experience and would definitely return in the future.

I recently moved to the area and decided to try a local food place that I hadn't been to before. Public House is absolutely amazing. The food is delicious. Their menu is very different from others. So far I've had their Pulled pork dinner, and their Mac and Cheese (with pulled pork on top) dinner. Both are impressive and taste great. My husband has had their chicken pot pie and Chicken and waffles. He also loved both. Their sides are great too. I really enjoy their steak fries with the Garlic aioli. The service is great, also. Their servers are attentive, without being overbearing, and you get out of their in a timely manner. They also keep up on drink refills, which sometimes is a problem with a lot of other restaurants. This is one my new favorites and I've been telling everyone about it.

Somewhere good to eat in Monroe that doesn't just consists of burgers or tacos? I'm a big city girl living in Monroe MI and I have to say I was impressed. It was a quick bite on a Monday afternoon, the resto was a little quiet but that did not deter from the great service and fresh tasty food. I had the roasted chicken with a side of sweet potato & Mac cheese, my husband the chicken and waffles. We were not disappointed. Everything was flavorful and tasty, all aspects of the diner hit all the right marks, from the perfectly roasted chicken, to the just right sweet, sweet potatoe side. My husbands chicken sounded so crispy I just had to steal a bite, mmm that was good, how did you guys get that so crispy? Service was great, our waitress was polite and attentive. I'll be back and would definitely recommend

I've made one trip so far to Public House, and while I don't think it will become a regular destination for me, I'll probably return sometime in the future. The atmosphere was different than most places in Monroe. Felt like it was trying to be a bit classier, but I'm not sure it truly accomplished that feat. There weren't many guests when I was there, but it still seemed loud because everything seems to echo through the whole place. Had a coupon for a free appetizer, so I tried the nachos. They weren't bad, and you do get quite a bit of nachos and toppings, but I'm not sure they would be worth the $7 regular price. The half chicken wasn't as "meaty" as similar offerings at other restaurants. I had to pick through a slimy skin to find little bits of good meat. The sweet potatoes weren't bad and it was a nice change to have them diced from they typical split down the middle. They also have cranberries on top. The corn bread was huge compared to what you typically get at a restaurant, so that was a nice surprise. The beer selection was weak. If you prefer good craft beers, keep on moving. Everything was bottled, even though on Facebook they hinted that they had draft beer. Maybe that's coming later. For what you get, I find the pricing a little bit high. Not much, but maybe 10% higher than I'd expect. But don't expect anything to be "cheap" on the menu here, as a fried PB&J with chips is $6.

This restaurant is one of the best in Monroe. My boyfriend and I got the chicken and waffles... THEY WERE AMAZING! The fried pickle spears are also extremely delicious. Our waitress (Jenny I believe her name was) went above and beyond and made our experience even better. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone. The food is high quality, made from scratch, and all around amazing. I definitely see myself becoming a regular.

Fantastic place! Stopped here for dinner while passing thru and all of the other reviews were correct. Excellent food, friendly service and good prices. The Public House burger with Pulled Pork and Bacon was amazing. The Mac and Cheese was delicious and the house made Chips were light and crispy. We don't know if we'll ever be back in Monroe, but if we are we know where to eat!

Great food and super friendly staff. This is a welcome change to Monroe as the restaurant scene was getting little stale. We've eaten there a few times and gotten something different each time only to be delighted each time. Definitely worth checking out.

Just left this "eatery" and I have to say this was one the worst meals I've ever had. My boyfriend and I both ordered the vegetarian hash. The sweet potatoes were cold and soggy and we both asked for our eggs over medium which I don't think the cook knew what that meant, seeing as they super runny. The was sausage was so greasy I left with a film coating my mouth. Plus to top it off our server spent 80% of her time on her phone. Believe me we showed our unhappiness in our tip. I am a server as well as a culinary student so I know how difficult working in the food industry can be but when you have two tables quality service and fresh non pre-made food should not be a difficult task to achieve.

A breath of fresh air for Monroe. Great food, great atmosphere and decorating. Everything was top notch. Dearborn meats, chorizo, fresh fruits and veggies. Bellini's and mimosas. A good breakfast place even for ann arbor standards. I'm sure lunch and dinner are just as good. A true gem for Monroe. A feather in its cap.

Not the type of restaurant you would expect to find in Monroe but it is truly a gem! You need only look at the menu to see it is an establishment that truly takes pride in itself. A quaint menu with unique recipes made with quality ingredients (lots of Michigan products including beer and wine!) No GFS or Sysco junk here. Portions sizes are spot on, certainly enough to leave you feeling satisfied and many times bring something home. My husband and I are so happy we discovered the Public House on Yelp and hope it stays around for many, many, many years to come. Thank you Public House for reminding us what restaurants should really be like!

My family tried the Public House for the first time last night and we were all very impressed. This place is great!! We had the chicken schnitzel and the half chicken, a beer, and a fantastic slice of pumpkin pie with homemade whipped cream, for a modest price for such a delicious night out. Everything is homemade, they buy from Michigan farms, and the decor is clean and comfortable. Go check them out!

I enjoyed eating dinner here the other day. The service was very good! The fried pickles were great. The French onion soup was a lot of bread and not a lot of soup. The mac and cheese was pretty good. The regular burger was a little dry and average. The pumpkin spice cake was delicious. The atmosphere is a nice change for Monroe (besides not changing the original floor). It's a little on the pricey side for the type of food they are serving, but everything is homemade and bought local. I would definitely try this place again.

The food was excellent and plentiful. The Brunswick Stew is a meal itself and really tasty! Very reasonable prices, attentive, but not intrusive service, lovely decor. A wonderful addition to Monroe. Would like to see a steak or perch on the menu.

My new favorite restaurant in Monroe! Went with family and friends and we all enjoyed everything. The food was really delicious, creatively and promptly served. Staff was friendly and welcoming. The decor is upbeat and attractive. I felt like I was in an trendy upscale big city hot spot, but with no rush, no pressure, no hassle. We will definitely be going back often. Oh yes, and breakfast is served any time of day (I like that!).
