Nice unassuming little establishment that serves fresh food made from scratch. We stopped in for breakfast and found exactly what we were looking for, a local place with homemade meals. Sparks more than filled that wish. Fresh bread and little cups of jam like cherry, blueberry, and raspberries. A welcome change from the little Smuckers jellies. My bacon and Swiss omelet was delicious with thick slices of bacon. The hash browns were ordinary but tasty. No pretenses here, just good food. WiFi available as of fifteen minutes before we arrived.
A bit of a long wait however food awesome! Loved the homemade strawberry rhubarb on homemade sourdough bread. Only real maple syrup here. Worth the wait!
A very nice place. Everything the other reviewers comment on is correct. My one big complaint is their hash browns. Mediocre at best, and that is a breakfast dealbreaker for me and the wife. We didn't try the Sparks Hash and maybe it's the way to go for breakfast. The bread is wonderful and I think that lunch may be their strong suite. I didn't try the pancakes and maybe another reviewer has and comment on them. I'd like to know.

Five craft beers on tap (Petoskey Horny Monk was one; don't remember the others). I had the Friday fried cod dinner. The cod was mushy, but the baked potato was good and the salad bar was a nice touch. Friends had the Reuben, burger, fried green beans, battered cheese curds, and one of the salads. They all seemed pleased with their food.
Truly a 3 star place... but nostalgia is a powerful thing, so it gets an extra sparkle. If you want a cheap drink and a small, "up north Michigan bar" feel, head on over to the Mushroom Bar and Grill in Mesick, Michigan. Mesick??!??! Yeah... Mesick. Map it, it's a city in Michigan - trust me. Though I wasn't feeling adventurous enough for their more unusual items such as duck, their bar food served up just fine- and what's more, they had wi-fi! This is not a small compliment in Mesick. It really is cheap eats with a lot of food. A couple dollars gets you nice and full. It's basically greasy foodie heaven. One plus is that they are located smack dab between Traverse City and Frankfort, so the location lends itself to up north vacation commuters. You'll get a smile, a $3 glass of wine/ draft beer, and a game of pool if you so desire. And the bonus is the people watching- listen to some local gossip while you watch sports or hang out at the bar. I spent every summer in Mesick and remember the good ole days of Fish Fry Fridays and fried chicken. It's been totally remodeled, but every time I walk in I still can smell the same fry grease, wood, and hint of smoke that you just can't remodel out of a place. It's a place that reminds me of my childhood and though I don't think its the best bar I have ever been to they will definitely see me every time I stop up.
Worst service ever. Do not go to this dump. Horrible service. Waited an hour and a half for food. Waitress couldn't have cared less. Finally left and paid for drinks only as food Still had not come
