We went in yesterday for lunch and we were seated by a sullen hostess. We sat unacknowledged for almost 15 minutes. We didn't receive a smile, a hello or a "will be with you in a minute". There was plenty of wait staff available based on the number of customers. I told someone behind the bar why we were leaving and she did not care. What a shame. Too bad the service is not as good as the food.

We went to eat at the Blue Fish during the restaurant's opening days. We came in with a party of five and were seated right away. Our server was already very familiar with the menu. It took a while to get our entrees but it was well worth the wait. My entire family was very impressed (and they are very hard to impress!). I can't wait to go back! It's awesome that Manistee finally has a locally owned restaurant that uses local ingredients. I'm excited to see what else this restaurant will do in the future.

Bluefish is a huge step up from the normal fare in Manistee. I've been coming to the Manistee area during the summer for more than 30 years and this is by far the best food I've had here. The menu has great variety, but is small enough that the kitchen can really execute it well. Our starters and mains were excellent but the surprising star was the dessert - butterscotch apple crisp. This was one of the better desserts I've ever eaten. The wine and beer list were both fairly impressive for the area and the prices were reasonable. Overall the meal was somewhat expensive but I thought that the price was reflective of the quality of the ingredients and the preparation. Finally, my wife has a gluten allergy and they were very helpful with this. They told us that nearly everything on the menu could be prepared gluten-free. I'm withholding my fifth star for the service. Like everyone in this area, the waitstaff are friendly and do their best to be accommodating. Unfortunately, the level of service just doesn't stand up to the quality of the food. Our server didn't give us the specials for the day, which looked to be quite good once I saw them on the board outside. In addition, the presentation of the food was quite lacking - there was no explanation for any of the dishes. When you're making quality food, you should make sure your servers are highlighting it! I'm hopeful that the management can clean up the front of the house issues - I think this has the potential to be a real destination spot for Manistee.

I have eaten at the restaurant twice, the first and second day they were open. In both instances the food was excellent and the setting was incomparable. The service from Jessica and Natalie was imperfect but they were unfailingly helpful and congenial. Eating on the deck on the 4th of July with music coming from the Gazebo, the gentle breeze, the boats in the river and the flawless blue sky could not be duplicated. The inexperienced staff is probably experienced by now.

I wanted the food to be good because it's a lovely setting right on the river and my husband and I were celebrating our anniversary sitting outside watching the sunset. The wine was good, so was the butter, but that's where it ends. I won't comment on service, which was just untrained young kids not properly supervised. We started with mussels, which were overcooked and rubbery. This was followed by what sounded like an appetizing beet salad, but what arrived were cubed beets in a in a sweet, gooey sauce served in a martini glass (why?). I thought I ordered a chicken corn chowder, but received a dark brown broth with w/ root vegetables and no identifiable chicken. The pork loin w/cherry sauce, was decent, but the vegetable medley was overcooked summer squash, zucchini and green beans and the polenta triangle although tasty didn't add anything to the pork - a soft polenta would have been better. My husband's whitefish was fresh with a huge pat of butter melted in a pool on one side of the fish - anything with that much butter is good regardless. The risotto was more like a rice casserole and was stone cold - same overcooked fresh vegetables. There were so many things poorly executed that it would have reduced our waiter to tears to keep pointing them out. The evening was lovely, but we won't be back - ever. I see it headed down the road of its former occupant. Simple, fresh food cooked well would have been enough to satisfy, but this missed the mark .

I live in Manistee and I am thrilled to welcome The Blue Fish to our downtown. I have dined here five or six times already and I have enjoyed everything I've tried. I've read comments about the sometimes poor service and dress code, sorry their experiences were not positive. I have had excellent service for most of my visits. Two visits, servers were not as well attending as the others but, it's a new establishment and I expect some bumps in the road. The food is top notch, presentation is always lovely and it's worth the visit. Love the specials I've tried. Beer is always good, wines are nice....desserts cannot be forgotten! Love the place. Thanks for coming to Manistee, I will eat here as often as I can!

Excellent ambiance, and very classy. Price was higher than I expected based on yelp classifications. Came in for a lighter dinner, and was extremely disappointed that the waiter had no interest in providing good service.

Wow Manistee!!!! This is a big city restaurant in a sweet small town in Michigan with extremely fresh ingredients, on a great menu with a really nice staff and urban interior. This will be my regular stop when in the area. Great job!

The Blue Fish was wonderful! My boyfriend and I went on the off-season so it was super quiet. We were probably one of four people in the place at the time. Although we stayed until close employees didn't seem to mind. I had the fillet and it was phenomenal!!! It is definitely more high-end but totally worth it. If you want excellent food go here.

This was the best restaurant I have eaten at in a long time. We had steaks that were cooked to perfection. The servers were amazing. We were treated with so much respect. Even the servers took pride in what we thought of the restaurant. Atmosphere was amazing. They have beautiful indoor seating with a lot of ambiance. The outdoor seating was comfortable and very quaint. It is right on the river so the views were fantastic. If you are ever in Manistee and do not stop at this restaurant you are missing out.

We came here shortly after they opened last year and enjoyed the mussels and drinks. This time however they have perfected their service, presentation and menu. I had the pan seared whitefish and my husband had pan fried dusted perch. Both were excellent but the risotto , the herbed oven potatoes, sautéed kale and finishing sauces really put over the top.

The Blue Fish was sooo delish! From the moment I walked into the door until we left I was thoroughly impressed with this restaurant. The service was excellent and decor was modern but still had a great sense of place. The food continued to follow suit. There were a lot of fish options on the menu - no surprises there - and my entree was fresh and very well prepared. I had the white fish with summer vegetables and a chipotle corn risotto. All three parts were good alone or eaten with each other. Bottom line: If you're anywhere near the blue fish you must make the trip, you won't regret it.

Swift and consistent service surpassed only by the imaginative menu. A very welcome addition to downtown Manistee. Not a bad seat in the house, and very accommodating of large multigenerational groups.

The place has nice finishes and looks expensive. The food was awesome and reasonable priced. I had the grilled sausage hogie. Fantastic flavor and has a unique slaw. My wife had a bbq sandwich with a cherry bbq sauces. Again fantastic!! Sit on the deck during th summer for a warm breeze. I want to come back!!

I admit to being initially biased against this place when I opened the menu and saw a $35 fish and ramen special. What a gouge! But the lemon perch with risotto changed my mind. Delicately flavored fish, coated in a light cornmeal crumb--delicious! This is one of the best dishes on the menu, and it's under $20 to boot. Clearly others love it too, as there are many of photos of it here on Yelp. It's nice to see downtown Manistee bustling with businesses like this, but it's definitely on the far upper end of the Manistee price point.

This was a good spot and a pleasant quality dining experience for what we were expecting in Manistee (please don't be offended, Manistee). Local flavors - good fish. We enjoyed the pork belly appetizer very much. I had the seared whitefish which was perfect. My daughter had the stuffed trout which was good too (she devoured the 'stuffin' of gnocchi and spinach, which is a surprise since she usually goes straight to the 'meat'). My wife had the scallops which were tasty. I think the chef was extra cautious about over cooking the scallops because the tops could've used a little more sear. Good sides, good drinks (a local 'grapefruit' brew, a wine, and a root beer). Excellent view! If it had been a few degrees warmer, we definitely would've sat outside on the deck. We LOVED the decor inside the restaurant and the flexibility the hostess showed in catering to our table request (we didn't have a reservation). Well done.

I like the Blue Fish more and more every time I go. The atmosphere is beautiful - definitely classy for Manistee. You get a view of the river, the bar is big enough, the bathrooms are nice and clean, and everything just looks right. The food and service when they first opened weren't AMAZING, but they have come a long way. I recently just had the tomato basil soup and a house smoked salmon salad and the flavors were spot on - I couldn't stop eating! They have a small, but quality wine selection for the right price. We usually go to Blue FIsh at least once while we're in Manistee. Nice spot to class it up.

Everything we ate here was delicious. The sausage and polenta appetizer was amazing. So what's the soup of the day, which was the corn chowder with sausage and a creamy base. For entrées, I had the lemon scented pan seared perch. It was fresh and very tasty, served with great sautéed vegetables and risotto. Hubby had the black and white fish served with the same size. His was also delicious. Service was friendly and fast, without any obtrusiveness. We sat on the back patio, which overlooks the river. A lovely setting. Highly recommend this place.

I stumbled upon this fabulous restaurant while driving through Manistee Michigan on vacation. Stopped at a stoplight on the highway, I looked to the left where a historic riverfront district on the Pere Marquette River beckoned. I'm so glad I visited because I found Blue Fish Kitchen and had an amazing meal. The restaurant is huge, situated in a restored riverfront building. It's almost two places in one. One the left is a charming period dining room with linen tables, upholstered chairs and the feel of a bygone ballroom era. One the right it's purely contemporary, industrial open ceilings, a modern open staircase and high ceilings. Open bar and tables. I was seated at a table overlooking the river and started with the appetizer, salmon crostini. Who makes house - smoked salmon? This place. It's absolutely unlike anything store-bought, tender, moist and delicately flavored. It was almost a meal in an of itself, but next I had the pan - seared tilapia, dusted with cornmeal and served with seasonal zucchini and a bed of risotto. Perfectly prepared, delicious and beautiful to behold. I was on vacation after all, so I treated myself to dessert - a slice of dense and fudgy flourless chocolate cake. I can still taste the fresh raspberry sauce served on the side as I write this. I had the meal a month ago! Meals this good are hard to come by. A meal like this while on vacation? Icing on the cake!

Wow! 10 plus experience! We rented top part of restaurant with 21 people with full bar and piano! Paige and Andrew were professional and fast servers! Food moved quickly when needed and paused for presentation! We live in Los Angeles and hosted grandmas 80th birthday! Could not have flowed any better! Food was terrific and NOBODY complained! (Rare in our family!) We'll be back same time next year!

Terrible customer service, awkwardly quiet outdoor seating. You'll get bread and butter 20+ minutes after being seated and good luck if you'd like a refill on water.

A tourist trap. Over priced for what you get. The risotto tastes like kraft instant out of a box. Very disappointed.

It's great to see fine dining in Manistee. I have been in the Blue Fish several times. It has a huge bar that is usually not too busy, but this past weekend it was full as was the deck out back on the Manistee river. Great selection of craft beers every time. The list varies with the season. As an appetizer I love the beet salad. It has red and gold beets, a balsamic glaze and some fresh basil. Very tasty! I did not let me down on this visit. For an entree, the champagne chicken is one of my favorite regular dishes that they serve with risotto and mixed vegetables, but this time I had the perch dinner which is also one of my favorites here. The perch are a bit small but nicely done with a very, very light coating along with risotto and mixed vegetables. The creme brûlée was also very good!

The food was excellent! We had steaks, fish, salad, and dessert! I had the filet with au poivre. The sauce was unbelievable! The ribeye was just as good or better than Ruth Chris!

I really love this place. I eat here regularly and the food is great - consistent and tasty and always something new on special. Today I ordered something and for the first time ever, sent it back. What makes the difference between good restaurants and great restaurants is how the kitchen and the servers handle a snafu. The bartender, a server and the chef all apologized profusely, brought me more food and were consummate professionals. I love this place and this is why I will always come back!!

On our yearly vacation we always go out to eat on Wednesday night. This year it was my turn to choose. We decided on Manistee and I looked through yelp for recommendations and chose Blue Fish Kitchen. With a group of ten none of us where disappointed with our meals. We started with the smoked fish, cheese plate and bruschetta appetizer. All were excellent they make their crackers for the cheese plate. I loved the warm smoked fish, we didn't leave one bite behind. Nice wine selection, we had the Grand Traverse Riesling and Root One Cabernet on the recommendation of the sever. They were excellent. A good restaurant pays attention to the sides and all of us agreed the sides were excellent. Perch tacos had tasty red beans and rice. Scallops were large and tasty with creamy risotto. Rainbow trout stuffed with gnocchi was superb. Someone had a huge ribeye with a potato casserole. We ordered the Creme brûlée, chocolate cake, chocolate mousse and key lime pie, none of us could decide which one was the best, all were equally tasty. Did I mention the butter, it was infused with garlic. We ate indoors in the very cool industrial building, to chilly for the deck. Attentive service, not rushed. They must provide good training. Check out the wonderful artwork. We will be back.

Came here on a gorgeous summer evening. Food and service both excellent. Best appetizer was the beet salad which was "phenomenal". For dinners, our group samples the perch, salmon, and whitefish. The whitefish was absolutely sublime and everything else was very tasty. A great restaurant in Manistee! I should have waited on my review because the key like pie was fantastic!! Maybe best ever.

Let down and promises broken. 30 minutes after arriving, we placed our order. 20 minutes after placing our order, the waitress returned to ask how I wanted the beef cooked. 30 minutes later, the food came. The meat and vegetables were room temperature. I brought it to the attention of our waitress and she took the plate away, returned in less than five minutes and the food was still the same temperature. Never touched the mushroom stroganoff. A few minutes later she returned to check on us and I told her the food was still cold. She offered to prepare something else, which would have arrived long after my wife finished her meal, so I said "no thanks." I spoke with the manager, who said he was sorry. In the end, we were not charged for my dish but still paid $65 for a couple drinks and I watched my wife eat her meal. I followed up via email and said I would return if they credited the cost of our spoiled experience. I received an email from the owner 26 days later, calling my factual TripAdvisor review "damaging" and closed with "It seems that we are possibly not the type of restaurant that you and your wife would enjoy dining at." I'm happy to provide constructive feedback because I like to see people and businesses succeed. Sometimes feedback helps you reach the conclusion that we should go our separate ways.

I stopped by today and was ready for another great meal. I had my mind set on the Salmon as it is the best. They didn't have salmon or their Whitefish. Disappointed I ordered the Mussel special with a wonderful broth. It is listed on their appetizers, but along with Caesars salad, it was more than most entrees. I've had this in Ireland and a restaurant near Pike street market in Seattle. This was as good or better then either one of them. Great bread too. I had a Sauvignon Blanc and it was very good at about $7. Just a real find in this place. If your looking for low prices and cheap food, this is not the place. But a real treat for always quality food. I love it and highly recommend it to those with high standards.

The champagne chicken and Chardonnay were amazing. The service was about a three out of five a little slow but maybe it's off season and better during peak. Atmosphere slightly above average. Food it was five out of five. A little pricey.

We are not from the area so we looked at yelp to help us with the choice. We wanted something with seating outdoors which it had. I suggest a bigger seating area outside or possibly in the front of the store just like in Europe if it is doable. We waited for 10 minutes for a table to open outside. Sat down ordered some wine and our dinner. The dinner was excellent. My wife ordered the perch and I ordered the champagne chicken. The risotto that came with my meal was good and my wife had asparagus as her side. The asparagus was cooked perfectly; not stringy like it sometimes can be. We even had dessert-creme brûlée. It was perfectly done not to heavy. Not sure how others only give it one star, but I am giving the place a A-.

Had a GREAT lunch here. Imaginative menu items, well executed. I had the Fish + Pig Sandwich, which is perch and crispy pork belly with lemon aioli. This was too weird to pass up and did not disappoint - great and unique. My Sister-in-Law's onion soup was shockingly good - it seems to be a lost art in the U.S., but theirs is perfection. Another classic recipe that they do well is the Ceasar salad - yes, they use anchovies as is called for in the original. My wife loved the Honey Goat + Tomato Basil flatbread. Great wine menu and a good selection of craft beer. We walked in here at lunchtime with flip-flops and t-shirts, but there is also a glassed in "fine dining" area with white table cloths and $25-30/plate entrees. Lunch was so good that we might try to come here for dinner and sit in the "aquarium" the next time we're in town.

It's a very attractive place. The menu is pretty varied, and the wait staff is really attentive and friendly. Sometimes I wasn't too sure whether the kitchen staff was on the ball. I am also not sure whether the banh mi would really count as banh mi -- I mean, it is spelled wrong on the menu -- but the meat on it is really top notch. An excellent sandwich.

Excellent service. The chicken salad croissant and tomato basil soup was awesome! My husband ordered the garlic pesto pasta dish and it was way to garlicky (if that's a word). I love garlic and it was even too garlicky for me :) the atmosphere is awesome though and we sat right outside in the deck next to the water! Loved that! Very classy restaurant. Never knew Manistee offered such a classy style restaurant. :) we will go again for sure :) we went at lunch time btw.

Nicest atmosphere and cuisine in Manistee. Pretty much the only place where the food is actually prepared for you. Everyone else specializes in deep fried mediocrity but not here!

The perch tacos are delicious. Just the right amount of heat, combined with a crunchy slaw. The decor is reminiscent of an old warehouse, but with modern touches.

Got the filet steak, probably the best steak I have ever had, the potatoes were also awesome. Got the chocolate cake as well which was also very good. Nice building, very clean place, great view of the river.

Came in on a long weekend to the casino. Found Blue Fish on Yelp and couldn't have been happier! We went for lunch, had the Salmon Greek Salad and Blueberry Salad (add chicken). They have craft beer on tap and cider! Only slight downside is it cost $46 for lunch, but I'll pay that all day for good food!

For Manistee, you can't beat the atmosphere. They were out of the prime rib, which hurt my soul, but Kylie was a great server, which made up for it along with a bottle of wine.

Even if you aren't staying right in Manistee, it's worth a drive! Atmosphere: white tablecloths, somewhat modern, but in an authentic older space. Great mix of city and small town. This restaurant could be successful in a big city, but still feels like you're in downtown Manistee. Good volume for conversation. Service: excellent, no complaints. Food: Soft, warm bread with herb butter to start (they grow their own herbs in front of the store!). A couple people in my group had draft beers and starter Caesar salads that were great. I had the perch for an entree. The perch was lightly breaded and served with an aioli, parmesan risotto, and warm summer veggies. It was excellent. I left full, but not stuffed, and quite content. Splurge, enjoy, support local business!

On a trip up north, my family and I stopped in Manistee and went here for my birthday dinner. I was excited to see such a nice restaurant in a small town. There was no wait and it was only a little busy, the decor was beautiful; however, the service was TERRIBLE. Just a bunch of untrained kids scrambling around or doing nothing and talking in the corner. We got seated and our drink order was taken and we asked if there'd be bread to the table, the drinks came 15 minutes later, we could see them sitting at the bar getting warm. The waitress didn't tell us about the nights specials until we asked. Then we ordered the bruschetta and that came in another 15 minutes and was flavorless and the "garlic bread" was not toasted or garlicky. I thought it was hard to mess up tomato basil and bread but they kind of did. To almost everything we said to her, the waitress replied, "wait...what?" And our waters sat empty and the appetizers were not cleared. Where are the bus boys? Then the bread came out WITH our entrees and it was all cold. My salmon was super dry and over cooked. My moms beet salad was small and flavorless. And my dad's perch plate was underportioned. By this time I was laughing at how bad the service and sub par meal were, especially for the steep city price. The hostess came over and asked if we needed anything, so we ordered more drinks, and she said "oh I cant go near the bar you have to get a server to do that for you" UH NOPE, you have to get us a server. So my mom had to get up and go get her cocktail from the bar. My dad ordered a beer from our waitress and she forgot to bring it entirely. Really a bummer that this place can't get their act together, great location and menu but horribly done!

I was really excited to hear that Manistee was finally getting an upscale/fine dining restaurant. As someone who's been in food-service for 8 years, 3 of which have been spent in a fine dining atmosphere, I had high expectations. Service: We were seated quickly, and our waitress was very nice. However, I had to prompt her to tell us about the specials, and she mispronounced one of the sauces on the dish. My water went unfilled for at least 15 minutes and I had to request that from her as well. She seemed unfamiliar with the entire menu (didn't know what beers were on tap, what certain things tasted like, et cetera). Food: Pork Belly Appetizer: Fantastic! If I ever go back it will be for this dish alone. The gnocchi with it had just a touch too much potato flour and had reached a gluey consistency. However, the meat was awesome. It was braised to perfection with a delicate sugar crust and beautifully plated. Beet Salad: Beautiful presentation. However, the flavors were not quite there. I had one bite with a touch of fresh basil in it, but other than that the beets did not have enough "pickled" flavor, and the balsamic dressing was very weak. They'd be better off roasting the ruby beets and getting a stronger dressing to pull the dish together. Champagne Chicken: The chicken was the best dish of the night. It was tender, juicy, cooked to perfection, and the sauce was delicious. The risotto it was served with was not hot enough. It had taken on the glazed look food gets when left under a warmer for too long. Salmon Entree: My salmon was overdone. I asked for it medium rare and it came out VERY well done. The spice profile on it was great, but the meat was too overdone for it to be a great meal. Again, the risotto was cold/lukewarm and had the glazed look. The vegetable medley that the dish came with was my favorite part. The chunks of squash and zucchini were still slightly crunchy, and they had a great flavor. The sauce with it tasted like a dill-ranch. I'm assuming it was supposed to be an aioli, but it was unlike any aioli I've ever had. Creme Brulee: Delicious. It was a traditional creme brulee that was light with a delicate vanilla flavor. Perfect. Drinks: Great prices on the draft beers! Thyme Vodka Cocktail: The taste of the thyme was there. However, the vodka should have been left to infuse longer, and the garnish should have been a fresh thyme sprig instead of a lemon wedge. Nothing in particular stood out about this drink. Cilantro Margarita: First of all, this was an on the rocks margarita. Therefore, it should have been served in a rocks glass. Not an over-sized collins or highball glass. Next, the drink was not shaken correctly. There was what looked to be a viscous bottom of lime juice at the bottom that we ended up mixing in with a fork at the table. The garnish leaves were not cilantro. They were spearmint or mint. In a Mojito this would have been acceptable, but not in a cilantro margarita. Once mixed properly, the taste was decent. Overall Remarks: I visit Manistee two times a year on average to see my family. Will I be back to eat at the Blue Fish? Probably - but only to see if it manages to improve a bit. I'm thrilled to see a new restaurant in Manistee and wish the owners the best of luck.
