Honestly, it's just completely perfect road food. One of my favorite travel destinations, period. I was just there this past Sunday when my job actually had me travel to Birch Run, and since that's only 30 minutes south, I *had* to go. I love it here. I think that what they do here basically epitomizes the phrase "Do one thing, and do it well." Granted. They are turkey heroes to me, and as long as they keep the quality and service as high as it always is, they'll always be welcome to my hard-earned cash. To those who just *cannot* get over the fact that the potatoes are instant, I'm sorry: I am staunchly in the "Real Potatoes Only" camp, but this place is the exception that proves the rule. Yes, they're instant, but they're very, very good instant potatoes. Had I not asked them, I never would have really known. I eat them all, anyway. They're that good. The only minor complaint I might have is that sometimes the items on the plate (specifically the dressing and potatoes) might get a bit too soggy from the water the veggies have been cooked in, but that's about it. Turkey Plate is just a winner with me. Never had to send anything back for any reason. I've heard about how wonderful the desserts are, but I've never had room for them. Whatever time of day you're passing by, if they're open, and you're hungry, do yourself a favor and stop on by. Quick, delicious, friendly, clean, inexpensive. Win.

Nothing better than a canned dinner, it was blannnnnnnnn. I ate here about 15 yrs ago and had a great meal. This time it was super low quality food, canned corn. I got the special turkey meal-The most common meal they serve. There is a reason it's covered in canned gravy to hide the super thin turkey slice. Its not worth evening stopping at, go down the road about a half mile and stop and a small diner. Cheap food and nothing fresh about meal.

The name is the place. Limited menu but you come for turkey and it doesn't disappoint. Large portions, tasty food, service was good.

We've been going since I was a little girl! (I'm 33 now) I took my kids for the first time today. It was so good, fast service and beats eating fast food. We stopped on our way home from our vacation. Turkey was excellent and the hot beef sandwich was great too! Everyone around us ordered strawberry shortcake, we just couldn't do it. We were full and had enough sweets on our vacation. lol Never disappoints! Great prices too! Enjoy!!

My first time here and it did not disappoint. Good reviews here are spot on. Family style restaurant with home made style turkey dinners. My husband had the perch dinner and he liked it as well. Melt in your mouth biscuits w/ honey. Service was super friendly and equally as fast. For those of us commuting N and S on 75, we tend to find places right by the expressway. This is about 4 miles to the east and so worth the stop! This will be a regular stop to break up the commute. Even though they are known for their strawberry shortcake ( which was good and huge) they had about 6 varieties of pie on the dessert menu. Trying all will be added to my bucket list ;)

Straight up thanksgiving dinner! Lots of turkey and stuffing. The pot pie was amazing! We shared a strawberry short cake and it was just like my mom use to make us as kids!

My favorite place to eat anywhere, anytime. I live in PA and always plan my ETA to coincide 5-6 times a year on my way to hunting camp in Oscoda. Sit down, order, go wash your hands, food is generally served before you return. Great value and great food!

Reliable Turkey Dinners for decades and decades. My family has been stopping here for years and years on the way to our annual fishing trip in northern mi. We stopped again this past summer and as always the Turkey Roost quickly served us oversized portions of the classic thanksgiving dinner. I even noticed they now carry biscuits with sausage gravy! We have a funny family story where, being a good southern boy, I had requested biscuits and gravy to a confused and befuddled MI waitress. When our meals came out I was handed a plate of biscuits smothered in turkey gravy. lol. Things have changed, and chain restaurants have helped homogenize things. I am happy to say you can now order biscuits and sausage gravy! However - I do not recommend it. Keep it simple and stick to what they do best - Order the turkey dinner!

Not too bad. This place has definitely been here for awhile. It looks a bit outdated but has a sort of charm. You can't miss this place. It is like feminine product pink. I'm not huge on turkey dinners unless it is homemade on Thanksgiving but it wasn't bad. Pretty decent tasting. I can't believe how quickly our food arrived. Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Remember the movie, Forest Gump? Remember how in one part Forest kept naming off shrimp dishes? It was shrimp this, shrimp that, shrimp, shrimp, shrimp...Well. Turkey Roost is just like that except with turkey.

This is a classic diner--with a twist. Most of the dishes are made with turkey. Turkey sandwiches, turkey pot pie, turkey soup.... I had the turkey soup. Delicious. Lots of big chunks of turkey. Flavorful turkey broth. Prices are very reasonable. Service quick and friendly. I could easily become a regular customer here.

I have been going to Turkey Roost Restaurant since I was born! Every trip we made to go up north, my great grandma would insist on stopping here to eat, since she went when Turkey Roost opened. Thanks to Turkey Roost I have lots of great memories of road trips with the family! They always have quick serving, impressive wait staff and big portions.

Outstanding as always We are in from Alpine California My wife is from Kawkawlin Her grandmother would take her for dinner at the Turkey Roost in the 50's The first time for me was in the early 70's on my first visited to Kawkawlin We celebrated our 43 wedding day yesterday at The Turkey Roost. All was fine after the second server stepped in and saved the day. The first server was spending her time with someone at the counter We could have gone in to Bay City for our anniversary dinner instead we thought this was more fun and it was. The strawberry shortcake is the best with ice cream Thank You

Good old Turkey Roost. Its pink presence is like a bear hug just waiting for you with open arms. I've been coming here since I can remember, and it always hits the spot. This is a plain Jane kind of place that serves up hearty plates (turkey, beef) of home cooking on the cheap. Hot biscuits are served with meals, and there's always jam and honey on the tables. We recently went for the Friday fish fry and got some fried cod / perch dinners that were served with big baked potato halves and coleslaw. The fish was perfectly cooked and arrived to the table hot enough to burn my mouth. Hope to see you again soon, Turkey Roost.

We went on Friday and had the perch and the shrimp dinners. Don't be deterred by a full parking lot. They know how to move customers in and get them fed. Friday is the only day they serve perch, shrimp and cod. Perfectly cooked with great fries and cole slaw. Service is perfect. Quick and pleasant. Every other day is turkey and beef. About 12 pies to choose or strawberry shortcake. Go!

Again, half-stars are definitely needed here at The Turkey Roost as it is a solid 3.5 Shame on you Turkey Roost for pairing up some great turkey with a fake...maybe instant mashed potato. I don't get it...you do all that work roasting turkeys, yet you give up when it comes to the second most important part of the meal. Go the extra mile and and you get another full star...up to 4.5. Why not 5 stars??? I didn't try the pies... That's for the next visit!!!

Great family restaurant, perfect place to take kids grandma and everyone for dinner at a reasonable price. Imagine a full turkey dinner for under $9 and it all tastes wonderful. it's fast you're in it out of there in an hour. it's perfect!

*It smells really good walking up to the place. *It has a diner atmosphere. *The menu is small with mostly variations on a plate of turkey. *Super fast and attentive service. *Good mashed potatoes and turkey. *Awesome cold slaw (wish we got more than a tiny condiment-cup worth). *Cranberry puree/mash was best on the fresh (divine) biscuits. *The cooked veggies were diced carrots that likely came out of a can and were blah, but were okay with some added butter and salt. *The dressing wasn't my style (too wet) and also needed salt. *The strawberry shortcake was enough for two and really good--almost too many strawberries and not enough biscuit. *Definitely worth a visit.

Just Like Thanksgiving..... This place is SPOTLESS... The service is first rate and FAST. We've been coming here for at least fifteen years, and will continue the treck up here from Algonac. If yoy like Turkey, you'll love the Turkey Roost...

I've been here twice in the last 30 days after not eating here for 20+ years. Just as good, if not better... Seriously...the turkey dinner is JUST LIKE your mom would make at Thanksgiving. Instead of making Easter or Thanksgiving dinner this year, I'm calling to see if we can get takeout from the Turkey Roost. First, this place has got to be the FASTEST service ever...even faster than "fast food." Both times, we sat ourselves, the waitress was there within 30 seconds for our drinks and was back 30 seconds later. Took our order, and our food was on the table in less than 3 minutes BOTH times. I've had the Turkey Dinner (dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cole slaw, cranberry cup, green beans and biscuit) both times and my wife and daughter have had the Turkey Salad Sandwich and Turkey Club Sandwich. All three meals were great. The meals were perfect, tasty and generous portions. Both times, I've had enough leftovers for TWO meals so it's a decent value. The restaurant is clean, but won't win any 5-star restaurant awards. The serve breakfast and turkey, and that's about it. And they do it right. Nice family style atmosphere, quick to get to, friendly staff, QUICK service, and great food. What more can you want?

Stopped in here last Tuesday with my daughter. Her first time and my first time in over 30 years. Still some of the best turkey dinners this side of Thanksgiving. I agree with some other reviewers that the dressing is too moist and the serving of mashed potatoes is too small, but that is a small price to pay for for a great turkey plate. I started going to the Roost in the early 60's when we would stop in on our return trip from Rogers City. Same pink building and outstanding meals. You can get a few variations of the turkey plate that come with buttermilk biscuits, dressing, vegetable, mashed potatoes and cranberries. You can choose between all white, all dark or both. About the biscuits, best I have had ever. Flaky, huge and tasty. The service in this visit was superb. All please and thank you. Cannot wait to take a day trip so we can eat here again. This is a definite go to in my book.

Over many years i've had the pleasure of having a good, and very quick meal there. I love the order placed till its on your table has always been under two minutes. The dressing is soggy but so what. And canned veggies (yep) get over it. I suggest just leave a good tip, and hurry back.

I love this place. We always stop while on our way from Ohio to our deer camp in Hillman. The turkey is top notch, the soups are always great, and the desserts are killer. If you are hungry this is the place to stop, I guarantee you won't leave hungry.

Stopped here and thought the food was pretty good, except the veggies (green beans) were out of a can and potatoes tasted fake. Biscuits were awesome and pies looked great. Service is super fast and prices are very reasonable.

I love this place because I think the food is DELICIOUS but also because it has so much sentimental value to me and my family. We use to come here at least a few times a year on our way up north from ever since I can remember to my teen years. We came here and enjoyed the food year after year with friends who are no longer with us. We don't really go up north much anymore but even though the turkey roost is 2-3 hours away from us, we still get there at least once a year. Yes, we drive the 2-3 JUST for the turkey roost. The food is still the same. Hasn't changed a bit and in this case, that's a great thing. Turkey plate and the strawberry shortcake are exceptional. I hope this place never closes.

A classsic for 50 + years. Just as it says: it's all about the turkey. They serve a great homemade turkey plate with potatoes, stuffing, veggie and little cranberry for under $8. Plus homemade rolls and pie (yum). Service is awesome: average wait for food under 10 mins, even when packed. Well worth the 10 min drive off xway for a awesome meal.

Good and FAST! Super breakfasts and love love love the turkey. Only gripe... mashed potatoes are NOT real. Serves beef also and has fish fry's during lent.

My aunt has begged me to try this place for years, the service was excellent, the turkey was average at best, yes it tasted like turkey and it wasn't dry, but there was no seasoning, me and my wife agree that the mashed potatoes were instant, the stuffing was pretty good, and the gravy did not taste home made it was to salty which is a pretty good indication that it came from a can or jar. The turkey rice soup I would have to give that 4.5 stars. My wife ordered the turkey pot pie, and as we all know pot pie of any kind is usually filled with all kinds of vegies, and she only found 1 partial carrot, my wife asked for french fries as a side item, and the waitress said sorry we only make fries on Friday's . My wife thought it was laughable that the bathrooms, emptied right out in the middle of the dining room, as guy I could care less lol. Over all I probably will just stop at Tony's at Birch Run. I will be happy to pass the Turkey Roost.

Good turkey, forgot to say no gravy, my fault, I don't like gravy. A great place to stop coming or going from up north.

Went there for the first time yesterday and was really excited it about and looking forward to eating a homecooked turkey dinner. However what I got INSTANT mashed potatoes & canned gravy. With such a limited menu and really thought the mashed potaoes would be fresh and made from scratch at the very least. Everything was very bland as well, I kept adding salt and pepper but it still didn't really help. A little onion powder or something to add some flavor and gone a long way in helping add some kind of flaver at least. Needless to say I won't be going back its not worth the trip.

Turkey dinner including dressing, potatoes, cranberry sauce and biscuit for $7.95 served in 2-3 minutes. It's a good home cooked meal served hot and quick for what you'd pay for fast food. Add this to your places to stop when going or coming back from a weekend up north.

  • Kelly B.

Seriously, great turkey and they've expanded since I was a kid, so not as much waiting for a table! The turkey dinner is served piping hot, in fact you may need to wait for it to cool down before you start, but that's okay because that gives you more time for the awesome, hot from the oven biscuits and honey on your table. My kids are not huge turkey fans (we're checking into the alien abduction theory) but there's plenty of other options inluding hot roast beef dinners, and the turkey noodle soup passed my older son's taste test - or heck they were stuffed on biscuits before our food came on one visit! It is not to be missed, and worth a drive when the mood hits!

  • Chris S.

The food is always good and the service is fast. We usually have full turkey dinners on our table within about 8 minutes after sitting down. The restrooms are clean. Make sure you try the strawberry shortcake for desert if you can save room. This is a great place to stop when your going up north down I75. The prices are hard to beat as well.

Just went back for the turkey plate with all the fixings. Topped it off with a blueberry crunch pie! Omg so delicious! I hope I don't go into turkey coma before I make it back to Detroit.
