If you like left overs, this place is the place for you! Everything came up within 5 min fresh out of the microwave. I'm not so sure if they cook anything to order. The only plus this place has is beer and wine! Sorry, we really use to enjoy this place

This is my favorite. Breakfasts are really good---the perfect way to start the day! Today I tried the baked oatmeal and thoroughly enjoyed every bite. My girl had her usual pecan crusted french toast and ate every bite. I usually get the cherry French toast and love it too. It is known more for breakfast/lunch but now they have a bar and dinner menu. It is just as good. Try this place, you will love it. Enjoy!

Just off the main drag in Kalkaska this restaurant is a gem in a town dying for good restaurants. Excellent breakfast fare as well as a terrific dinner menu. The meatloaf and brisket are excellent. For breakfast the corn beef hash is home made and delicious, biscuits and sausage gravy killer! Prices are reasonable and the service is first class! Wish I would have found this place the first night we were in Kalkaska.

The service wasn't as fast as I would have liked but the waitress was friendly. I just had a bowl of the white chicken chili, it was okay but defiantly a lack of chicken. My fiancé had the fish and chips. He said the fish was really good but the fries not so much. Based on the other reviews maybe we just ordered the wrong thing. Probably will try it again because the place is just so cute!

Great food. Clam chowder, Reuben, up north field greens salad. We go out of our way to come here.

OMG the lobster macaroni was so delicious! My husband had the "hair of the dog" burger, with a fried egg on it, and said it was great! This place is definitely a hidden gem off of the main drag. Glad we "yelped" before picking a lunch spot! We will be back for sure! Great service, great prices, great food! And the atmosphere was fun too.

I enjoy going through small towns to have breakfast or lunch... They always seem to have the ability to create a positive dining experience. This place is awesome and will definitely keep in mind it in mind the next time I come thru Kalkaska!

Once again the trout exceeded itself. Now they have liquor......beer......wine. they have redone menu....not that they needed it. They have perch perfectly battered without an ounce of grease. Their coleslaw is better than anything I have had.ribs and brisket outstanding. I would pick this place over any expensive...trendy....pretentious wanna be great place. Tanya you are amazing. Never had bad food or service. When I get back downstate, this will be the once place I will miss. How can they just get better? Did I mention lobster and Mac? New logo same Great food........thanks for giving me a wonderful dining experience.

Found this great place through Yelp, and was pleasantly surprised by the great atmosphere, cleanliness, friendly staff and - oh yes... Great food! Tried the oatmeal bake which was delicious! I couldn't finish it all! My husband's eggs and hash browns were cooked to perfection! Will definitely come again when passing through Kalkaska!

Great spot. It feels like a cottage inside. Breakfast was fast and fresh. Had a omelette and pancakes. Also had the hot turkey sandwich. It was great. Sourdough bread, turkey breast, buttermilk red skin mashed potatoes and stuffing. Best I've ever had at a diner.

You don't think much from the parking lot, but this place is great. My husband and I have been here a handful of times for breakfast. Our 3-year old daughter calls it her favorite restaurant. The Sunday buffet us great. The breakfast sandwich is perfect, and my husband is very pleaser with the steak & eggs. The prices are reasonable. The wait staff are attentive and friendly. You'll walk away satisfied.

Cute "up north fishing cabin" decor, friendly servers, and great food! We stopped here for lunch twice, both on our way up and back from a road trip up north, and loved it both times.

I stopped here on my way back to Lansing from Traverse City because of the high rating on here. I had the BBQ Brisket and Bacon Melt, and it was excellent.. My coworker had the Cobb salad, and said it was very good and fresh. I'll be adding this to my list of places to return to.

Wow... I was surprised and impressed. We have been traveling through Kalkaska on the way up north for years and have never wondered off 131 to eat. This great restaurant is literally just off the main road and should not be missed! The food is excellent... so many choices I couldn't decide. We got a trout dip appetizer and it was so flavorful, served with warm pita bread, cheese, candied walnuts, and warm cherry compost.... yummy. I got the 'not just another reuben'... grilled sourdough bread, so tasty corned beef, swiss cheese, pickles, and horsey sauce. My husband got a toasted brisket sandwich with grilled onions. Then they have homemade dessert... my husband got a milkshake made with hard icecream. He gave me a couple of sips and it was really really good. We will most definitively return to the Trout Town Tavern & Eatery!!!!

We stopped in here on our way south from the ski resorts and we are looking forward to returning again! Wow - everything was delicious and the service was outstanding. Brianna was attentive without being overbearing, kept the drinks full and paid attention to what the kids needed as well. There was a solid kids menu - including breakfast options during lunch and dinner. My husband and I both had cups of the clam chowder - and it was delicious! Fresh potatoes, tasty broth and pieces of clam in every bite. I had the Chicken Tosca and it was very flavorful, fresh and not greasy-buttery at all. My husband had the brisket french dip and said it was great - the chips and fries were handmade (fries were a boardwalk style fry). Kids had the pancakes, kids burger (only one slider size burger but they only charged $1 to add on a second burger), and the Mac and cheese (which was so good I would get it myself). We were all too full for dessert but look forward to sampling it next time! Also, everyone one in there was just so nice - it was a delightful find.

Excellent, Food (I had the perch), excellent Service and a very professional management. My Wife and I took another couple there 7-4-15. As I said, excellent food, but, my wife got the Wet Burrito. In our local area this would come with a sauce (Fajita or Cheese). However, theirs does not. My Wife told our waiter about the problem and management gladly offered to remake it, replace it or remove it from our bill. Very Professional Management. Great Food though. We also got the Fish and Chips and Lobster Mac n Cheese. I also recommend the Pretzel appetizer.

Same location, different name. Trout Town Tavern and Eatery now serves alcohol too! Tried the homemade mac and cheese tonight, it is absolutely delicious! All desserts are homemade as well, like the banana cream pie, cheesecake, coconut cream pie, etc, and you can't forget about the giant brownies!! Cozy place, great food, and great staff... what more could ya ask for :)

Very, very good for what it wants to be - a small town homey restaurant. A easy-to-understand menu with more variety than a typical local place. The seasonal Oktoberfest menu looked amazing. Someone has really thought this through. The salad I ordered was made with fresh ingredients -- a very nice homemade dressing -- grilled chicken and delicious dried cherries. My guest ordered a wrap and onion rings. The onion rings were huge -- but soggy. The wrap was great. The services was friendly and attentive. We had a spill at the table and our waitress brought us fresh napkins when we asked -- but she didn't offer to help. We will add this to the regular rotation when we're in the area. Well done!
