The hotel I was at recommended this place. There aren't many options in the area so take that into account when reading. It is a quiet little place on a Thursday night. There was one other person in the restaurant at 8 pm. I ordered the philly beef and cheese. It came on a kaiser roll with fries. Was a little disappointed with the simplicity of it. It was 3 deli roast beef slices with a few green peppers and onions on top. The waitress brought the water, brought the foood and I never saw her again. Not that I wanter her checking on me every 5 min but it's not like they were busy.

Worst service ever. Our waitress Brandy took our order and then disappeared. We had to go to the bar the get refills. When she brought out my chicken wrap (I ordered the chicken salad) she took it back after I offered her to leave it. Ten minutes later, I got my food. Did I mention it was a salad. To make things worst, it was obvious the chicken from the wrap was taken out and put on my salad. Guess that takes ten minutes. Kids got the supreme burger. If you like a frozen burger over cooked then you might like the supreme burger. It also took her ten minutes to bring my wife's dressing for her wrap. She came back one more time to ask how our crappy food was. We order refills but had to once again go back to the bar to get them. Brandy was never seen again. Well we did see her when she took care of the only other customers in the restaurant when she told them their best selling item was gross. The bar tender had to bring our bill to us. As we walked out, Brandy was sitting in the kitchen talking to the cook. Don't go.

This was good the first few times we came a few years ago. We vacation in the area once a year, and it seems as thought the service and food just keep going downhill. The waitstaff act like we are a pain to seat and wait on each time we come. Every year we go there out of familiarity, thinking that our last experience was a fluke, but the most recent time we went we decided that was it, we will not be returning.

Gobbler, pint of beer, and a side of cheese curds will put a smile on your face! Why would you order anything else?

Terrible seating, cold, and nothing on the menu worth eating. Too bad, from the outside it looked promising.pretty much just a local place to drink.

Some of the worst service I've ever seen at its finest! The owner tony is by far the worst for service too. I've never seen an owner do so little for the customers, customers ask for service and the owner will go get there server somewhere in the back I guess, they all just disappear instead of just taking care of her customers herself. Must be to difficult to fetch a glass of water herself. Don't know why I give 1 star I guess cause once I had a good burger and I'm forced. Not much open on Sunday so I was forced to go back if your wondering why..

We were driving through town and stopped in for lunch on a summer Monday. Loved the french fries that come with the sandwiches! Our Philly cheese steak and Mediterean chicken sandwiches were fine. I felt that the booths could use a cleaning of their upholstery - rather dirty.

When we read a review that said "If you are anywhere within 50 miles of this restaurant, you must check it out."... well we had to check it out and am I glad we did!! Driving through the area and seeing some of our options, I was getting a little worried our culinary choices were going to be limited, but this place is ray of sunshine in the Northwoods. The prices are very reasonable. The food looks and tastes great. The ambiance is very personal and the staff is super friendly, it feels like they are genuinely happy to see you as soon as you walk in the door. The salad ingredients were all fresh and crisp, and the sprouts and sunflower seeds were a very nice touch. Every time we're in town on vacation we will be stopping here!

The first time that I went to Don and GG's, I was with a party of three and I was the only one to order the ribs. after tasting my plate, we ordered a rack to go to eat on the way home to Madison. A year later, one of my friends from that night and I were heading back to Ironwood for skiing and all we could talk about was the ribs. We fantasized about having them and how good they were. On saturday, we went to the restaurant. After all of this build-up, we took the first bite and we both agreed that we had forgotten how good the ribs were! I've been back a few times since with similar experiences. I would happily drive from Madison only for the ribs.

We found this place thanks to Yelp. The waitress and hostess were very friendly. The place is wood paneled and dark. We sat in the back room for our party of five. My husband had an "outstanding" Bloody Mary. The food was okay, nothing special. Our table ordered shrimp basket (good), baked nachos (too many olives), Mediterranean chicken sandwich (missing the olive tapenade), chicken quesadillas ("not the world's best," according to six year old), and blackened chicken wrap (hit the spot). We would eat there again if back in town.

Sooo... I had really high expectations for this place based on reviews, and word of mouth. I did not have a good experience. This place is pretty quaint and warming when you walk in and the bar and quiet seating is nice as well. Me and my ski bumming bud were here enjoying the great ski mountains for a couple days. Everyone we asked where some great places to eat was, mentioned this place. The bartender, who actually lives upstairs, said he was called down because they were busy granted there was a larger family party a 4 person table and then me and my buddy. With one waitress and the bartender. The bartender was dressed casually and apologized for not being better dressed because he got called down when he was off??? Reminder: he lives above the restaurant. The waitress was nice and pretty attentive and took our drink orders right away after we sat ourselves. The bartender brought our drinks because we ordered a couple of beers. Here is where it starts going down hill. It took a little longer than usual for the waitress to return to take our orders for food which is fine because we had no where to be. We ordered and she trotted off to tend to the other patrons. I ordered a ham sandwich with fries while my friend just order chicken fajitas or something along those lines. Essentially cooked chicken with side of ingredients. From the time we walked in to the time our order was taken ill say 30 minutes had passed. An additional 45 minutes to an hour passed before we actually got our meal. Now I will say that my friend enjoyed his meal but then again the only thing that essentially needed to be cooked was the chicken. Mine was ham with a honey mustard sauce on rye bread. The bartender once again dropped our items off as the waitress came right up behind him and asked "how is everything?" We had just received our food but we didn't make a fuss though we were not happy about the long wait. (everyone else had already been served by the way even after we walked in) We started eating and half way through the second half of my sandwich when I started picking at the fries. Which were fine until I found a stray hair. This ended it for me. I didn't finish my meal and just placed my napkin on top of the food and pushed the plate to the end of the table to signify I was done. No one came to collect the plates once my friend had finished as well. We had finished our drinks and were just waiting on the checks. No one came. I finally stood up and went to the bar to retrieve the checks. The bartender said he would be right over to drop off the checks. I guess the waitress wanted to do it herself because for some reason the bartender asked if she wanted him to drop them off when she said "no i'll do it." She finally dropped off the checks. Before she left the table we just handed her our cards. We signed and left. There's no point to make a really big fuss about a little mom and pop place like this even though I personally wasn't really that satisfied. I will say I sympathized with her because even though there weren't that many people in the establishment she seemed to be working hard and they were both very nice. Because of all the positive things I have heard about this place I am willing to give it another chance whenever I get back up there but... I hope no stray hairs this time.

I enjoy Don & GG's. The family running it is quite personable, and the bartender (I think the eldest son?) works hard. The food overall is pretty good, although I don't think I'll order a steak there again. My husband and I got steaks there once when they were on their board, and they weren't very good cuts of meat. A bit on the thin side too. But everything else we've had there is tasty.

Great ambiance, delicious food and friendly staff. I ate here on my way home from visiting the Porcupine Mountains. All weekend I had been waiting for that classic "UP friendly hospitality" that I've come to expect and love. Unfortunately, I had a couple of run-ins with grumpy, burnt-out staff at other places north of here. Thank you, Don & GG's for restoring my faith in the service industry.

Wonderful little place! They had the best cheese curds I'd ever eaten, a good gyro, and marvelous cheesecake. You must visit if you're in the area!

This is a gem of an eatery in the great Northwoods. We vacation in Michigan's UP every summer and we make it a point to get to this restaurant every time. They have a full bar and inside and outside patio seating. My husband highly recommends the sandwich wraps, especially the Chicken Caesar wrap. They have a full lunch and dinner menu. It is apparent that the owners and chefs have spent a lot of time creating a diverse and delicious menu. This is great food at a very reasonable price. I also recommend the Chicken Portobella mushroom sandwich with the garlic mayo. Yummy! If you are anywhere within 50 miles of this restaurant, you must check it out. You will not be disappointed.
