Quesadilla was very peppery. A little too peppery for my taste. No fun quiz time either... WILL EDIT TO 5 when quiz comes back.

The food was good, but not spectacular. They do have more than plain old bar food. I had a pretty good pasta dish. The food was very expensive, with kids meals averaging $6.99 with some a bit more. Adult meals ranged $10.00 to $20.00 something. Excellent selection of beers on draft, including local brews.

Hofbrau is my favorite bar to hit up any night of the week. The staff is excellent and always friendly. While my fiance and I normally choose to sit at the bar, the dining area is beautiful! I love the views and there are two fireplaces on either side of the restaurant to cozy up to on a cold winter/spring/summer/fall night (come on, we live in Michigan, there's bound to be at least one cold night every season). They also just installed 3 80" flat screens above the bar (another great reason to sit up there!). When it comes to the food, we normally end up getting a pizza. I'm really indecisive, but the sandwiches, Mexican fare, and appetizers are really spot on. The Hoffy Special pizza is awesome, and is definitely recommended. The real specTAPular thing about Hofbrau is their extensive tap list. I'm so impressed by all of the beers that they have available! I love trying new beers and expanding my palate. Not only do they have a stellar beer selection, the cocktails they make are AMAZING! Their martini game is on the mark. They always have specialty martinis that are perfect. The prices are a little steep, but I feel that it's worth the cost. If you go during Happy Hour, it's not so harsh on the pocketbook. Overall, this is a great place to go. I love their Happy Hour schedule - Monday-Saturday 4 p.m.-6 p.m., I also think there's a late night happy hour as well. It's tough to find a great HH on a Saturday!

Hofbrau has better than average pub food. Home made quality and good service. Plus 53 beers on tap. Great way to finish the day off

Absolutely great dining experience! Server was Jean, super friendly and attentive. They have a huge selection of draft beers, recommend the Michigan flight which is a steal. The nachos and Reuben were delicious. If you are in the area this place is a must!!! Overall it was the perfect date night. We will for sure be back!

Great place. We had a great experience. We camped at the state park, so this was right around the corner. We love trying new beers and finding good food. The ambviance waa great. Log cabin wood tables kind of feel. Not contemporary. But very very nice. First the beer. 52 taps! Amazing selection. Clean lines good carbonation. We sat at the bar and our bartender Ray was top notch. Knew the beers. Conversed with us. Very friendly. Just a nice laid back guy who is a pro at his job. Tip this guy well! He deserves it. We ordered flights and tried many varieties of Michigan beers. Food was good. No complaints really. I ordered the turkey bacon sandwich. Bun was beautifully carmolized, turkey was great, nice amount of bacon/cheese, and a good roll. Fries were perfect. Gf ordered the pasta at $18, which might seem pricey, but it was a gigantic portion. Easily 3-4 meals. She loved it. Check this place out!

I work at Interlochen Arts Camp, so this has location going for it. It's a little expensive for what you get, and for someone underaged, I can't really judge the bar (but my friends say it's good). The food has not amazed me, but I've had some decent nachos and a burger.

Straight forward grub and bar. Nothing special (food) but out here u shouldn't expect much. Friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, pretty good local beer selection. Beautiful floral landscaping around outside seating area. A tad expensive for what u get but it'll do.

This place has been around for a long time. We have been coming up this way to Long Lake since the 60s. At that time this was just a little bar in the little town of Interlochen. Atmosphere is nice, cozy. The service is good. Overall the food is kind of upscale bar food. Typically a little pricier than your standard bar fare. We did not try the pizza, but noticed a number of people getting the pizza. It looked very good. On this night I had the whitefish sandwich, which featured a homemade tarter sauce. I was lightly breaded and very good. The slaw that came with it was bland and nothing to write home about. My wife had a ruben sandwich which was heaped with corn beef, and kraut. It too was very good,in fact she could only finish half of it. I like this place. Good upscale bar food with a twist. We will come back.

We went here for Sunday brunch after I saw it on yelp. We would definately re-visit. The prime rib with horseradish topping was awesome. They make omelettes and waffles right in front of you the way you want them. Did I say the prime rib was good? Enjoy!

Love this place. The food is typical up-north food. Fish and chips, prime rib, pizza, etc... The pizza is my favorite, but I've tried most their menu and its all very good. The atmosphere is pretty nice depending on what time you make it. The central interior room is very 'barish' and has several big screens up for trivia games (Yikes, i wish they'd scrap these). The side rooms are much better, but the northern room you can get seated next to the 'server alley' and it'll get kinda noisy. Never the less, everything else is perfect. Excellent selection of beers (Seasonal Bells beer FTW). Wait staff is a bit erratic but usually up to par with restaurants in the area. Very central location if your travel around the area.

Our visit on Tuesday was the worst experience we have ever had at the Hofbrau. We will never make the effort or waste of money at your business again! IT took over 2 1/2 hours for 11 of us to eat our dinner. ANd you werent even that busy. My husband complained to the manager on duty 3 times, never got an apology or offered to discount our meals. My husband Chicken was dry and the sauce on the chicken parmesan was aweful. The only reason he ate the chicken was because he was starving! My sons Fish was cold and greasy. He didnt finish his either and was sick the next day. Not sure why anyone would go back to eat there ever. Terrible service and food.

Hofbrau- German food, no, American good eats, yup, you betcha. I went with a co-worker, after a friend told us about their deep fried pickle. This deep fried pickle inspires legends apparently (it's a spear, not a whole pickle, lol). Anyways, it is wrapped in ham & swiss (they were very nice and made me a non-ham one, yay) and deep fried in a won ton wrapper. Healthy, what's that? I had a personal pizza, and my boss had one of the chicken sandwiches. The portion sizes here are huge, I took half of my pizza home with me. The prices are average to higher, what can you do Northern Michigan style pricing? Highlight for us was the adult beverage served in a mason jar with a ginormous toy plastic/rubber dolphin, see drinks menu for the toy drinks section. Apparently, the dolphin drink isn't even on the menu, it is mango something and costs like 8.99. So, overpriced if you are just ordering it for the toy (which you could probably get at the dollar store or a party store). For the novelty, and for a person who is obsessed with dolphins or knows someone who is obsessed by those awesome creatures, this is friggin amazing. Also, the patio seating looked nice, but it was windy out. Also, the outdoor seating is along a quasi-busy road, though this is Interlochen (so mainly busy on concert nights, folks). I saw something about half off the menu on Tuesdays, but this doesn't apply on concert nights. As some menu offerings cost a pretty penny, this would probably be worth checking out. Fun, up north and cabin-y vibe going on inside this place.

What a great find! I was up in northern Michigan on a ski trip last weekend and a friend I was with who is originally from the area suggested Hofbrau for an after-slope dinner. It completely hit the spot. The beer list is pretty good and the drink prices are uber reasonable, but that may just be me being used to $8 beers in Chicago. I got a 24oz mug of Labatt's for $5. The menu was pretty diverse but had the backwoods restaurant staples: ribs, steak, fish, deep fried pickles (more on this later). I had the bacon and turkey sandwich which was pretty good. Could have had more turkey on it, but it was sufficient. A friend had the breaded and fried perch. I tried a piece and it was one of the best pieces of fish I've ever had. It was INCREDIBLY fresh and flaky. So about these pickles. They are nothing short of a flavor explosion waiting to burst in your mouth (hehehe). The pickle is wrapped in ham and cheese, then breaded and fried. Absolutely unreal, like a Pickle Cordon Bleu. My only complaint was that the non-smoking section was not quite non-smoking enough. It may just be me though, I'm used to no smoking in restaurants and bars all around. We didn't get to go back for Sunday brunch but the menu looked killer.

$7.99 T-bone and prime rib night? $14.99 all-you-can-eat Sunday brunch with omelets, chicken, waffles, Bloody Mary bar, and aforementioned prime rib? Okay, price alone sold me. Of course, with prices like that, I was a bit nervous on delivery. No need to have given it a thought, as the meals were quite tasty! I'd also recommend the coconut shrimp. Huge! Ambiance is relaxed, though the smoking section is pretty much horning in on non. (When will MI jump on the smoking ban bandwagon already?) Glad we finally made it out here. Can't wait for summer brunch outside with the jazz band.

The Hofbrau used to be one of my favorite restaurants in the area. I went in May 2012 for the first time in a year and was dismayed by how bad the food has become. The first thing we noticed was that the prices on almost all entrees were $2-$3 higher than we remembered. Oh well, we thought. It's good food. WRONG. I ordered the whitefish, which I'm pretty sure used to be available broiled or sautéed or other options than deep fried. Deep frying good whitefish seems like a waste. But, since it's the only option available now, that's what I had. It was the most flavorless waste of $20 I've had in a long time. Bland, bland, bland. I'd like to at least say the side dishes were good, but the salad was a pile of iceberg lettuce with a couple onions thrown on and the baked potato was just a boring old baked potato. My parents both ordered prime rib. Again, there was almost no flavor to the meat or the au jus that was provided. I can somewhat forgive bland food if it costs $12 or less. But these 3 meals were all $18 or more. I KNOW the Hofbrau used to be better than this. Until they get back to their old standards, or at least their old prices, I won't be back.

huge portions and great beer. The whitefish sandwich was great and the northwoods pasta was amazing. A cute patio too.

Nice place! My boyfriend & I took a break from camping food and stopped in for dinner. Service, food, drinks & dessert were excellent! Tasty MI craft beers $4/pint. I had the whitefish and he had the prime rib; both were huge delicious portions. The hot fudge sundae was killer too!

First, a consumer alert: "Hofbrau" is false advertising. Nary a German dish on the menu. It's bar food all the way. That being said, it's good bar food, and not the kind of place where all the appetizers are pulled out of big white boxes in the freezer. Our choice was the brie with horseradish relish, which was slightly disappointing -- not much zip in the relish, and just a small round of brie; we were anticipating a larger, wrapped-in-filo cheese. Our table had several of the fried fish plates, for which choices include blue gill (nice touch). Kudos for an excellent tartar sauce-to-fish ratio; first time I can recall actually finishing with tartar sauce left over. Fish were prepared well, and the breading doesn't overwhelm the fish. In this case, the three-star rating is about as good as this kind of menu could earn. Nothing here blew us away, but I can see why it's very popular. Service was good.

Michigan is a little cold for my taste coming from CA. My daughter found Hofbrau and we all wandered in...LOVED the views, nice cozy atmosphere the food and drinks hit the spot. Found everyone so friendly, and had a really good time. The staff was very helpful, and I will definitely be back next time I am in town!

Anyone who has ever been to Interlochen knows about the Hofbrau. It's another one of those places that has existed for so long that it's been deemed an "institution." But unlike most institutions, the Hofbrau is clean, welcoming and charming. I haven't been to Interlochen for a long time, and I don't remember many specifics about the food, other than it was good and I liked the pizza. But I do remember specifically watching humming birds out the window and feeling extremely relaxed and always enjoying the atmosphere at the Hofbrau. They've got a great menu and everyone will find some the like! And the have a super wine and beer list including my favorite Belgian Kriek. There's an outdoor beer garden for warm days too. Hofbrau is hardcore awesomeness.

The outside looked really nice. Hey, we might have just found a winner out in the sticks of Interlochen. Pulled in the parking lot. PACKED. Good sign. But, we had to park in the lot next door. 15 minute wait? Alright. Went by quick. Sat down, greeted by some high school age server. Mostly unfriendly. Informed us of the specials too promptly, as we were sitting down, couldnt even settle in to focus on what he was saying. Handed us the menus. NOT A GERMAN ITEM ON THE STINKIN MENU?! WHAT HAS THIS PLACE COME TO!!? Instant dissapointment. The kid got us drinks. Margarita on the rocks with salt was strong. Mmm. Everybody's soda was made with the gross, up-north Michigan sulfur water. Trust me, hold on the soda. Unless you want to waste money on putridness. Get a great beer. We ordered Spinach-Crab dip to start. Was REALLY good. Gone in 5 minutes, licked the bowl clean. As we waited for our food, they have this cool trivia game you can play with other fellow diners in the restaurant. My little brother was delighted. But play silently, people were stealing our answers. Quite competitive. Our food finally arrived. I got the classic penne pasta. On the menu it was described as "Pasta of your choice in a olive oil and garlic sauce tossed with roasted red peppers and parmesan cheese." Sounds delicious, right? No. They left out a word. FLAKES. As in HOT roasted red pepper flakes. Big difference. By the end of the meal, my lips were burnt off my face. I hate hot stuff. Just no. My mom got the sun-dried tomato pesto pasta. Since when does pesto turn into a cream sauce?! She was highly dissapointed to see red-tinted alfredo sauce on her pasta. Haaaail no. That is NOT pesto. My sister got the Bacon Turkey Cheddar sandwich. Looked and tasted good. Added mustard made it all the more better. Brother got the perch. He said it was horrible. Incredibly fishy smelling and tasting, like it was rotting. And the color... was grey, almost black. That cannot be good. Overall, a "mehh" experience. Take that word as you wish.

Save your time and money !!!! way to slow and way to overpriced. Want a good burger, steak or pizza?? try Maddy's tavern just 1 mile away. Went to hoffbrau recently 3 of us for a couple of beers and a quick bite. Friday night in the dead of winter. They were not very busy at all. It took over 15 minutes to get our first round of drinks after they were ordered. Long story short,, A pizza was ordered, a salad, and an order of bean dip. It took almost a whole hour, and when it came the pizza was wrong, and the bean dip was cold. I've never sent food back in my life, but felt I had no choice, I was so mad from the wait, i totally lost my appetite. complained about the pizza as well being wrong. Our server gave us a piss poor apology at best, we were never offered a free drink, discount or anything. The saddest part about this whole fiasco.. This has happened to me almost every time I go there. But I will not have that problem again, because i will not be back. Shame on me for trying to give a 3rd 4th or 5th chance.. Poor service, very slow, I could almost overlook the higher than average prices if the food and service were good. I wish there was a zero star rating because that's what they would get from me.

We live right around the corner, so we have a lot of experience with The Hofbrau. Generally speaking, you can't go wrong. We bought our home in Interlochen due to the Hofbrau. My wife loved the fried pickle and said if the burger was good, we were buying the house. Well the moment she started on it, the house was ours. The Hoffie burger is one of the best in TC.

Good atmosphere with a nice local beer selection. We had burgers and couldn't complain. The rest of the menu looked good, but the beers hit the spot. Nice place to catch the game in the bar area. They also have a pool table off to one area.

The words painted on the door say it all: "This is the place". I.E., the place for Interlochen staffers who need to escape from campus for a night. The food is decent, but as a veg-o, I didn't sample much here beyond deep-fried mushrooms and the like. What sold me on the Hofbrau was the reasonably priced beer selection. I quaffed many a 32 oz. Guiness, Bells, or Wacko Summer Ale here over the past camp season.

Over the years we've brought in thousands of dollars to this restaurant by our patronage and the friends we've brought or sent there. It's nearby and the food is good and the atmosphere is pleasing enough. We liked it so much we bought a bunch of gift certificates for the place to give to our friends at Christmas. We kept 1 of those $20 certificates to use ourselves, but because we were in Haiti for most of the year helping with relief efforts, we weren't able to use it right away. We realized after returning to the USA that the certificate had expired earlier that week. We decided to see if they would honor it. We didn't assume they would, but we asked our server (whom we knew) to find out from the manager if they would let us use it or at least give us some small discount. Our happy pleasant server was sure it wouldn't be a problem, but double-checked. She came back and told us the manager wasn't going to let us use it, nor would he even give us a free dessert or $5 discount or anything to indicate our business was desired. The irony of this is that if we would have chosen to interrupt our dinner by playing Euchre, we would have received an even larger discount, but we had wanted to quietly talk and 'debrief' after our time in Haiti. Because we knew our server we didn't want to put her in an awkward position, so we ordered our food anyway and decided we would write a letter to the manager explaining what had happened. My husband took time out of his busy schedule to write a thoughtful letter that detailed what we liked about the place, the business we brought in, and how we weren't looking for a free ride, but would have appreciated knowing our business meant enough to them that they could have at least matched the discount they were offering patrons who played Euchre that night or at least had the manager personally come out to tell us he was sorry but unable to give us a discount. We had our return address and phone numbers in that letter and never heard back. It's been more than 6 months since that incident and now we take our friends to Buds or Boones or somewhere else. It's a shame that this restaurant that is suppose to 'neighborhood friendly' fails so miserably in genuine customer care.

Absolutely love this place! The only place in Grand Traverse county that you can play trivia boards. The menu is extensive, definitely something for everyone. The nightly specials are ridiculous; cheap A$$ steak night on Mondays for $7.99, prime rib Tuesdays offering a 24 oz. cut for $14.99, smaller cuts for far less. Staff is superb. Sunday brunch is the best in Northern Michigan. Pair all that with a down-home feel and a nice drive out of town and you have one of the best eateries in Traverse City.

oh my....hofbrau and I go WAAAAYYYY BACK. But seriously, I cant come up north without hitting this place....The beer, the food, and the service have always been great. The brunch rivals that of some of my favorites in Chicago and NYC.

went there last friday after arriving at the sunnywoods campground to have a hefty dinner. first we started with the fried pickle and fried mushrooms. it was divine, the wonton was crispy and the swiss and ham made a nice touch to the pickle. The mushrooms were okay because im not a major fan of this particular vegetable but the other people at the table were enjoying it. For the main course i had the perch, it was deep fried to perfection because it was not overly covered in oil and there homemade sauce was superb. On the other hand, i tried my sister fish and chips and taste as if i was drinking plain oil, which is not a good thing. Also, my brother in law had pasta alfredo but it was missing something really. Personally, the service was not that good, and i think is due to the location of our seating area. But this should not be an issue. The good thing is the portions and the variety of beer and drinks.

Love their nightly specials! This truly is a wonderful restaurant with a great, lodge-y, up north atmosphere. Only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is because the past couple of times at the Hoffie we have had some poor servers, but that would not deter us from coming back. This is one of my favorite places, very warm and inviting. Their wings and fried pickles are to DIE for, never a bad experience with the food, ALWAYS excellent.

52 beers on tap. 6 or 7 IPA's a few craft lagers a few imports and typical industrial beer. Sunday brunch until 2pm is a good deal. Prime rib waffles homemade biscuits and the usual breakfast suspects. Service was welcoming

There are few places that I visit EVERY time I'm in the Interlochen/Traverse City area. However, The Hofbrau has become a favorite and a necessary tradition when I am in the area. I am from the Ohio area and was so impressed by what I found at the Hofbrau three years ago that I've made it back at least once a year since then. The quality of food, friendliness of the staff, and overall pride that The Hofbrau has around their establishment is such a rarity to see. In the last year I have gotten "up North" three times and have tried to taste a variety of things on the menu. The deep fried pickle is AMAZING! I wish I could find a place in Ohio that has such a creation. Instead I am forced to drive the eight hours to satisfy my craving! Their "Hoffy Special" pizza is great for large groups. It's full of flavor and will satisfy any pizza craving. Last but not least I MUST list my favorite selection (thus far) the stuffed chicken. It takes a bit to cook, but it's worth the wait. Overall, I'm so pleased that I found this establishment and can't wait to come back in January when we're up for ski season!
