We were pleasantly surprised to find this place in Houghton, as it's hard to find whole, unprocessed ingredients in local restaurants. We are big fans of Chipotle back home, and while not the same, The Rodeo also uses fresh ingredients that don't upset my stomach. They use fresh cilanto and lime, and their chicken is also noteworthy.

Great little burrito place in Houghton. A little bit off the main road but well worth it! Chips and guacamole were a great way to start and now I still have half a burrito to finish later. Overall it is a lovely spot to avoid fast food chains.

Hands down the best Mexican food in the area. Our first visit was a happy one. I ordered the veggie burrito and my son got the beef tacos (corn), both to go. Both of us enjoyed our meals. The ingredients were fresh. However, I think next time I would order the burrito bowl instead of the burritos. The tortillas were less than stellar, grocery store ones. You know the tough, chewy kind? Maybe try flipping it on a skillet? We ordered their hot salsa, which while tasty was yooper-hot and nowhere near the hot of real Mexican salsa. Glad to have found this place though.

I eat here every time I'm in the area, sometimes twice a day. Sure it's pricey, but if inexpensive food is all you want, go to Taco Bell. You get what you pay for. Fresh, clean tasting ingredients that you can discern in each bite. A salsa bar would be cool, but I usually eat on the go and grab chips and salsa from the grocery store, then I can grab a beer or a coke and some cas to round out my meal. Then I eat in my car, isolated and insulated from the rest of humanity, free to think my own thoughts, unencumbered by the somewhat lane strip mall feel of Rodeo. I always get the Pork. The chicken is decent, the beef is good, but the pork rules. Add sour cream and guacamole for 2 dollars!!! More and make it exemplary. Don't be a cheap ass. If all you care about is saving money, don't go out to eat. The yelp app sucks.

Best Mexican in the whole area. Fast, good, clean and simple the way food should be! The chicken burrito with sour cream, guacamole and veggies is my fave. We would go so many Wednesday night right before our meetings for dinner, so yum! Only down side, closed on Monday boo, but I still love it.

Rodeo is a quick, tasty, and healthier alternative to Taco Bell (closest price point comparison). The restaurant is very small, so be prepared to get there early during peak mealtimes or take food to go. We have enjoyed tacos, burritos, and burrito bowls. My partner is fond of the beef, I always get the pork. I've tried the chicken and I've found it to be too dry and lacking the deep flavor that the pork and beef have. Their homemade salsas are fantastic. I'm 100% addicted to the Tomatillo Salsa. We have had mixed experiences with the staff. Sometimes they are super friendly, other times not so much. Overall, their lack of enthusiasm doesn't deter us from coming back.

Average due to a combo of very high and very low points. Highs = modern, clean, simple, and tasty. Chunky white cheddar was awesome and both beef and pork were good. Salsas I tried were also good and not afraid to be a bit spicy. Lows = price was high. 3 tacos + chips and guac with some extra salsa was over $13. I like A LOT of salsa and having to buy tiny sides of salsa at $1 each just to try them is a bit frustrating. Suggestions to establishment = add a few chips with the tacos and either have a salsa bar or some way to try the flavors. I'll never come back just for the salsa verde, because I didn't get to try it. It could be phenomenal, but I didn't want to spend another $1 just to try it. Could be at least 4 stars with a salsa bar, 5 with slightly better value. Definite potential.

This is on my "must visit" list when I'm in Houghton (aka my new Ambassador). The menu is simple, but they have all their bases covered. I order a veggie burrito or bowl, and the veggies, salsa, and guacamole (all freshly prepared) make it incredible. As a vegan--a picky one, at that--I very much appreciate that they can tell me exactly what goes into their food, and that they are willing to accommodate my special requests. I'm happy to report that they now have a big jug of cold water and cups (to the dude who couldn't get a glass of water here); if you get the spicy salsa you will need it!

Very fresh, made from scratch tex-mex. One of the better places around Houghton.

Fresh ingredients. Simple, yet tasty, menu. A weekly stop for us as it is the best quick eats in the Houghton area.

My favorite restaurant in Houghton, and the best quality Mexican food I've had. Their ingredients are always fresh and quality, such as their white chunk cheddar cheese, brown rice, quality meats, avocados, etc. The owner was very knowledgable about specific dietary considerations, such gluten related sensitivities. The menu is very simple, but makes up for it with its supreme quality. My favorite dish is the grilled chicken burrito with added guacamole, extra veggies, Greek yogurt, and their hot salsa. It's hard to believe a chef like this would end up in a city like Houghton, MI! Great food, excellent service, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Very good! My husband and I are both from California and consider ourselves Mexican food connoisseurs. (IE: We are picky about our Mexican food). But this place is the best around. They make the tacos almost like real Mexico tacos, we were shocked! We went in the first week it was open, I sure hope they keep up with the original way they made the food. Not bend over to please the locals tastes. There IS a lot of people that like the real Mexican food.

Pluses: +Quality ingredients (i.e. meat, brown rice, black beans...); +Clean; +Excellent cake. Minuses: -$7.75 for a burrito is high. I wish they would go for a higher volume of customers with a lower price instead of this business plan. In SF's Mission District where commercial rent is high, I pay $6 for an excellent burrito; -burrito lacks ingredients, like onions and cilantro, that you'd expect. At least the amount of salsa you'd expect to give it the veggie content you'd expect from Mexican fare; -biggest negative, when I asked for a cup of water I was told 'no,' that I had to buy a bottle of water. This is the reason that I am unlikely to eat here again.

Overpriced, flavorless burrito. Will not be coming back.

Was expecting a supper-club type atmosphere but this was "fast-food". Very pricey for what we got.

The best Tex-Mex food in the area. I'm a die hard Tex-Mex and Chipotle fan, so I've been disappointed over and over again for what attempts to pass as Mexican up here in the U.P. (what do I expect?). But, Rodeo passes muster! Their food is big on flavor and their hot salsa packs an amazing kick. I've had their shredded beef burritos and bowls, salads, tacos and cake. Everything has been very tasty. My only complaint(s) are the prices, which are pretty darn high by comparison to similar eateries around here (though, I'll pay it, because the food hits the spot when I'm craving Mexican) and the fact that they are cash only right now. The "Square" app that you can use on your phone to pay is a p.i.t.a., so I avoid it. I just have to chuckle at the reviewer who was disappointed to find it was not a supper-club atmosphere. Was it the strip mall that gave it away??!! Seriously, you won't be disappointed here...unless you visit on a Monday, when they are closed.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
