Can't really say enough good things about this place. The food is great, the service is is quick and friendly and the atmosphere is exactly what you want in a small-town diner. The portions are far bigger than the prices warrant. I work out of town, so I usually eat breakfast here because I'm not around for lunch. Steak & Eggs is my favorite but there are many many many other wonderful selections on the menu, though most people just have one of the specials. A couple things to prepare for, and not in a negative way: 1. It's small. Half the diner is an old train car, the other half is a small addition. If it's busy you may have to wait, but not too long. If you have a large group 8+ and want to sit together, go somewhere else. :) 2. No public restroom. This has never been an issue for me. They're grandfathered in so they aren't required to have them. Just use the bathroom before you go- (you'll have more room for food that way) :)

I love the Coffee Cup! The Thai food is excellent and the American fare is wonderful as well. Plenty of daily specials to choose from as well as a very complete menu. You won't believe the quality of food and prompt service offered in the modest sized diner! Highly recommend a visit. BTW other reviews mention no credit card accepted but that info must be old, I am certain they are accepted.

My son and I ate here when I visited him at Hillsdale College. What a great find! Food was great; biscuits and gravy breakfast for the college kid were a wonderful treat. Surroundings are nothing fancy, but we liked the "mom and pop" atmosphere. Prices were extremely reasonable, so leave a nice big tip.

Good thai for a small town. Had both the red curry and the vegetable stir fry. Breakfast looks very good as well.

OK, full disclosure: my aunt owns this diner, so I may be biased. But if I didn't think it was good, I just wouldn't bother to review it! The truth is, this is an amazing little place, and if you don't believe me, just ask any of her dozens of regular customers who come in every week. Some of them come every day! Now that's loyalty. The reason they're so loyal is that my aunt greets everyone by name and knows what they like. Usually, she'd have their food cooking before the waitress even made it over to the table to take their order. She treats everyone like family. Also, the prices are ridiculously low and the food is amazing. Prapai Eshelman, known as "Pai," not only owns the Coffee Cup, but she runs it and does almost all of the cooking. She opens at 6 am Monday through Saturday and closes at 2 pm, so it's only open for breakfast and lunch. She makes a point of cooking from scratch using fresh ingredients whenever possible. For instance, every day they boil a giant batch of fresh whole potatoes, then peel and slice them for the fries and hash browns. My favorite breakfast item is "The Mess," a pile of homemade hash browns topped with grilled onions, peppers and ham, and then smothered in sausage gravy. I could only eat half an order, it's so huge. There are breakfast and lunch specials every day, and one of the lunch specials is always a Thai dish. My aunt, like my mom, is from Bangkok and decided to start offering Thai food a few years ago. Now she has customers who come in specifically for her homemade curries and pad thai. There are no Thai restaurants in Hillsdale, and you'd have to drive to Ann Arbor (2 hours away) to get any other Thai food. The diner is in a converted 1920's train car, so it's tiny but adorable. And it's always full, but there's never a wait for a table. I recently visited my aunt for a week and ate at the diner every day. I haven't eaten so well since...well, since I left home! The burgers are great. The waffles are amazing. The Thai food is delicious. And the service is personal and friendly. I wish I didn't live so far away--I would take all my friends to eat there too!

I think this place has it in the bag. The no credit card thing really pisses me off here too. However their service is fast AND food is good.

By far my favorite spot for breakfast. The food is always delicious and filling, and the service couldn't be friendlier. The perfect place for a great freshly made breakfast.

Unbelievable. I first went there with one of my Thai friends who was feeling homesick, and I took her there after I found out they serve some Thai dishes. Delicious!! The Thai dishes are amazing, and her omelets are THE BEST. The small pancake is cheap, delicious, and huge. Pai, the owner, is truly amazing-- she does most of the cooking herself, and it's always fresh and fast. The atmosphere is wonderful--it's almost always, when I'm in there, busy busy busy. And yet the staff makes you feel welcome, finds you a place, and feeds you fast. They don't accept credit card, but the prices are so low that you could make yourself full with pocket change, really. (:
