Stopped here on the way from the airport. Best fast food ever! I have had pasties all over; these were the best. They come bagged right out of the warming oven. Great for a picnic. Excellent muffins, too!
Great veggie pasty. Lots of potatoes but good flavor and good crust. Potatoes sliced like scalloped potatoes instead if chunks.
Amy has the best Pasties and her sweet bread is to die for!

Racers has taken up residence where the old Cousins Sub shop used to be in the complex next to Pat's Foods in Hancock. Nothing much has changed as far as interior, same very small space with limited seating; however, it's super easy to grab food to go here. And the food? We will be hitting this place up often. We tried 2 of the staple double burgers, they were huge (I would get the single next time). Fresh baked bun, fresh grass fed beef (patties pressed right in front of you), and copious choices of cheeses and condiments. We also tried the Italian Fries. Garlic, garlic, garlic...I love garlic. These fries topped with garlic, parsley, basil, and Parmesan cheese are SO crispy and delicious! The portion serves at least 2 or 3 people. The cost was reasonable $20 plus tax. They were very crowded, but seemed to handle the pace fairly well. The staff was friendly. Despite being a cramped dining area with a lot of people going in and out, the area was kept clean by the staff. We will absolutely be back, the cheese melt sandwiches sound Devine and we would like to try the Build Your Own Burger.
Try the florentine salad! Burgers are great with lots of options. Loved the blueberry ketchup with sweet potato fries.
I just wanted to update to say that I dropped in again here and found the food, once again superb. Almost without realizing it, I ordered the exact same burger (with pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, fresh jalapeño, Gorgonzola cheese, and ancho chile crema sauce), and it was still just as awesome. I also tried the malt, a strawberry malt that was excellent. I continue to highly recommend this place. I need to branch out to another burger/cheese/sauce combo before I fall into a delicious rut...I'll have to remind myself next time.

When I lived in Houghton 06-08 it was definitely one of the better pizzas around!
Great pizza ! Love the Old Pic Theater turned Pizza Parlor in Hancock! Check it out!
Everybody seems to love this pizza but I don't think it's the best around. The prices are okay but the pizza just doesn't do anything for me. Now that they moved over to Hancock and it's not next to the KBC we'll see how it does.

Love this place. I've been going there since it opened over 25 years ago. I usually gat a large spaghetti and my wife loves the cannelloni. The service is always courteous and fast. No matter what you order you will like it.
Cute little place - food good - but as one review said, the flavor could use a little more "pop". Will try pizza next time in town ... And certainly beats out the other Italian restaurant in Hancock!! Which reminds me DO NOT on any occasion bother to go to Gino's - "the other place" that is truly Bad!!!!! Q
Chanced upon this place while visiting my daughter at Tech. Nice little place with a great atmosphere...nothing franchised about it. I got lasagna, wife and daughter shared a pizza. Food was really good, my only complaint was the place was pricey and the portions were somewhat stingy. For that reason I am subtracting a star. Otherwise, this was a nice little place to eat.

HUGE, lumberjack portion breakfast dishes at reasonable prices and fast service. I always sit at the bar and watch the plate orders hit the pick up shelf and ask myself, "who the hell is eating that giant meal, a linebacker?" Theirs always food left on plates when a table leaves cuz it's just too much. This place is usually insanely busy too. Their farmers omelette and biscuits and gravy are awesome with cinnamon toast. Their pancakes are fantastic too. Only one complaint. The gravy on the hot beef sandwich was ungodly salty. I had to scrape it off and just eat the beef, which was almost as salty. They need to monitor that. Additional salt should be added at the table, not in the kitchen.
Kaleva's food and service is hit or miss. I've usually had success with the Farmer's Omelet.
We went on a Sunday in October and it was busy but not super busy. After ordering it took about 45 minutes for our simple breakfast to be served. Booths need to be fixed and it's fairly dirty inside. I like that it's old school but next time will cross the bridge and go to the Suomi Cafe.

Gino’s Restaurant

Our group of people were hesitant to trying this place out again because of our previous experience with the former owners, but the new owners have definitely made this a place to not miss out on! Their pasta was absolutely delicious, especially with their garlic cream sauce. We have made it our mission to try out their amazing pizza that we have heard so much about!
New owners! The original Gino's grandson has revamped the menu and you will notice! Treated like royalty as soon as we walk in, even though we look like poor college students. We are the only ones in here tonight, can't believe it with the good prices, friendly atmosphere and tasty food. Sit down carefully, the seats and decor need updating. Now, the food: I've never had such a good margherita pizza in my life. And we have tried a lot of fancy Italian pizza. The tomatoes taste like they're grown in someone's backyard (they might be, the summer just ended) and the flavors just play on all your senses. The caprese and avocado had the same incredible tomatoes. My boyfriend ate the soup before I could set my beer down. Even the music is good. Not country, or popular music, not even classic rock. Just good easy to listen to tunes. Can't wait to return again and again!
Gino's has new owners and it shows. This iconic restaurant has been a staple of Hancock for longer than I remember, but it's reputation was only "meh" for the past 10 years or so. We had the vegetarian pizza and a side of spaghetti. The crust is super thin and crisp! We are already thinking about trying the margarita pizza next time. The spaghetti sauce was a thick meat sauce full of flavor. The pasta was a little soft (I prefer al dente). We had the baileys chocolate cake for dessert, YUM. They are in the process of updating the restaurant (new paint, etc), I hope they keep the old light fixtures, they are pretty and unique. The price was totally reasonable too - $38 (pizza, side spaghetti, dessert, 2 domestic beers and 2 glasses of wine). Overall we are happy to see this place rejuvenated and will certainly be back again soon.

Delicious. Friendly. Authentic. Fresh. Always changing. Great atmosphere. Yum.
They charge for more chips and salsa which is embarrassing for a tex-mex restaurant. The verde sauce for the burrito was pretty good but the burrito itself was disappointing. It had too much chicken (plentiful and giant pieces) and cilantro so you couldn't taste anything else. Service was OK but waiter did not return much. Drink order took a long time to fill even though we were close to the bar. Restaurant was deserted on a Saturday evening. Yikes.
The carne asada was a nicely cooked piece of meat with trivial maninate, and almost totally devoid of seasoning. The seafood enchiladas, however, were so salty as to be almost inedible - were they made with sea water? Table salsa was tasty, but $4 for another miniscule container? C'Mon! That's a freebee, just like chip are anywhere else. Oh, the chips were very good. Price was a bit high for this town . . . All in all, mediocre compared to Mexican done by actual Mexicans, but not bad for the UP of Michigan, where Mexican is almost impossible to come by. Just figure out seasoning, especially salt!
