What's happening, sir? I heard you're the best. My crew wants something spicy. Get out of here. A ghost pepper pizza? No, that's crazy stupid, We want spicy, not anal bleeding. Cool. Yeah. Whatever. I don't even know what naga sauce is, but if you think two white bread dudes from Bloomfield and a Polak from the Eastside can handle it, then we're on board. Yep. We'll be by in twenty, sir. Thank you. -- End of my pickup order. Anyhow. The naga pizza was a bit overpowering after the third slice, but we all enjoyed the hell out of it, as we continuously dabbed sweat from our brows and successfully made small talk about the few things we knew about Bangladesh with the gentleman who made our pizza behind the bullet proof glass. I equate our attempt at small talk to some annoying asshole from France trying to initiate a conversation with an American by repeatedly babbling on about President Obama, busty women in California and some of the local produce grown in parts of the U.S. we'd never actually frequented. Regardless, he humored us all the same, told us to come back and we certainly shall. Next time we're going to roll with the crispy thin crust. The deep dish was too doughy for my liking, but the flavors packed in the naga pizza were phenomenal.

Fortunately, the food outpaces the atmosphere/service here. I had attempted to stop by a few days ago but nobody was at the window to take my order. I rang the bell...and nothing. So I left. Today, I called in my order and went to pick it up. Again, nobody at the window even after ringing the bell twice. So I pulled my phone out and called them, and when they picked up I said "Hi, I'm here to pick up my order". The guy came out from the back, slid the pizza under the bulletproof glass, relieved me of my $15 and sent me on my way. Very weird process. More importantly, the food was pretty good. I opted for a large round Naga Pizza. I've got a pretty solid tolerance for spicy foods and handled this easily. There was definitely some build-up and while I was eating the third slice you could feel the heat nicely. All in all, the pizza was worth it. Next time I'm opting for the ghost pepper pizza. tl;dr - Good pizza, weird place. Call ahead.

Random and unassuming establishment that serves simple, tasty foods! We ordered the Tandoori Pizza which had a nice spicy kick to it, and a couple of the specialty Amar hotdogs which was also delicious!

Wouldn't call this pizza, but rather, a delightful tandoori cracker. Wings are a delight. Great ambience too!!

"Amar pizza is your pizza" - love the sentiment, but I do not feel as much love for the pizza. It is super cool to see my Bengali brethren branching out of their element with some creativity. The place is super spartan, but they do have done in and accept credit cards. The place had a steady stream of mostly desi patrons, even as we were approaching closing time. We went with the Detroit-style Tandoori pizza and split a Tandoori hot dog. Both were topped with the same creamy Tandoori sauce. Neither had its chicken actually cooked in the sauce, which was good not great. I would be willing to come back and try something less "saucy", though.

Pizza is pizza right? Some restaurants use more cheese than others, while some try to flare their pizza with fresh herbs and larger leaves of basil, etc. There are other places that just offer the ordinary pizza and you wouldn't be able to tell from one pepperoni pizza to the next. Not Amar Pizza. You can get all the traditional pizza you want, but what you won't find at other places is the adventurous and flavorful experience with a Bangladesh spin. This pizza place was one of the stops on our Bizarre Foods culinary tour of Detroit to follow in Andrew Zimmern's shoes. DO NOT LEAVE THIS PLACE WITHOUT TRYING THEIR DRIED FISH PIZZA! I wrote that in caps for a reason, seriously you have to try it. It was by far one of the best pizzas I have ever tried. Its unique, delicious, and packs a kick of heat. It is made with dried shrimp, roasted garlic, onions, cilantro, spicy fish paste containing ghost peppers. It does have a small fish flavor, but its minor. The fish is dried and then mashed together, then spread on the pizza. So when it cooks, it becomes dehydrated and becomes this wonderfully crunchy topping. When you combine the fish along with the garlic and shrimp paste, it makes a harmony of flavors. Be careful though, if you don't like spicy food, you may want to stay away from this one. A small amount of ghost pepper is used so it has a kick. It doesn't hit you at first but when the heat arrives slowly, oh you know it. We did ask the owner how they came up with this pizza and it was fascinating how they did, but I can't reveal their secret. You'll have to go to try it first and ask them yourself. Be advised, you do order through bullet proof glass, but we didn't see any problems near by or felt unsafe.

This is the best pizza place in hamtramck... All their specialty pizzas are great... Little expensive compare to other place but trust me their food worth ur money.....

Pizza these days come with all kinds of toppings. Some don't even belong on a pizza. At Amar, their spin is new alright, but it is simultaneously also in the traditional spirit. I highly recommend the dry fish pizza and also the ghost chili pizza. I don't think an honest talk about pizza will henceforward be complete without mentioning Amar Pizza.

ok, after the munch down, I was disappointed. Readings the great reviews, makes me wonder. the taste buds people have. both pizza's was dry hardly any sauce, the meats was dry , overall cardboard pizza in a cardboard boxes.

Probably the best pizza I ever had. Their crust, toppings, the dressing oil and everything else is just perfect. This pizza has a distinct Deshi flavor that stands out. They probably use olive oil, and some good dairy product that taste pretty genuine. They are halal, but unlike many other halal ones, they do not depend only on meat. In fact, their veggie pizzas can be compared to other very high-class pizza stores, such as the Motor City. A gem in hamtrammk that you need to try today.

  • Mona L.

Try the hot dogs. I recommend tandoori or ghost. Also, you can't go wrong with spice pizza. Such a gem.

Awesome pizza, I love the fact that it's not as greasy as other pizza places, and they offer some other alternatives as well, if you're in the Hamtramck area, then this is an amazing place to try :)

  • Nikida N.

My husband and I love this place! Whenever we have out of town visitors we make sure they experience some of this amazing food! The new add on hot dogs are great! And a must try: the Philly cheese steak deep dish pizza! It will change your life! Lol!

I admit to being skeptical of a "Bangladeshi pizza parlor" but it's really good and slightly different. For sure worth a try if you're ever hungry in Hamtramck and don't want to wait a million years at Aladdin. And for the courageous/insane they offer a GHOST PEPPER pizza. Yeah. I dare you.

It's a good place to try one of a kind Bangladeshi pizza. Try the naga pizza but if your Bengali or southasian, try the ghost pizza because it's spicier.

This is the best pizza in all of metro Detroit! Amar Pizza is slowly getting recognized and it is much deserved. They have delicious pizza, laughably cheap prices, great customer service and creative food in a generally routine genre of cuisine: pizza. They offer regular American pizza which is excellent, but their Bengali fusion pizza is incredible. Bengali pizza might sound strange, but trust me it's DELICIOUS! I highly recommend the tandoori pizza with a side of naga sauce for dipping your crust. The tandoori pizza substitutes tomato sauce for a particularly good tandoori type sauce. It has chicken, onion and cheese on it. Like all the pizzas, the ingredients on the tandoori pizza taste very fresh. It's 5 bucks for small, 7 bucks for medium and 9 for large. Small cheese pizzas are only 3 dollars, and large deep dishes are 5. Their pizza is NEVER EVER greasy or sloppy. It always seems made with great care. I believe they also comply with muslim dietary constrictions, which doesn't affect me, but is still nice because you know they aren't using cheap, hormone injected meat. Two brothers own the place and they're good honest people who put a lot of TLC into their business. Very pleasant to chat with, and always provide service with a smile. Service is prompt, but everything is made fresh once ordered. Highly recommend the spice, naga and southwestern pizzas too. Have not tried the sandwiches or salads. Spinach pizza was good, but not great. Store motto is: "Amar pizza is your pizza," and apparently they'll make a pizza with almost anything you want on it. They have all the standard toppings and some exotic offerings such as eggplant & tilapia. No matter what kind of pizza you like you should TRY AMAR PIZZA. It is probably the best pizza I have ever had, and yes, I have been to Chicago and NYC and tasted that jazz. VERY GOOD PLACE!!!

  • Sharad P.

Go there and get the naga. It's worth it because it's truly different and closer to the mythical ideal of chicken tikka on the pizza. That and it's like $6 for a large. It's hurt by the fact that the crust is thin and functional (without character) and that the chicken they use is the stuff that comes in industrial sized pre-packaged bags. I know they need to keep costs down but I'd love it if they had a gourmet option...

Ghost Pepper Pizza is the BEST Pizza Ever!!!

Great pizza, great service and the BEST fried chicken in Hamtramck!!! That may sound odd, but not when you're talking about Hamtramck.

  • Jenifer B.

Great pizza in a very (very!) low key atmosphere. I had the tandoori chicken which was excellent. Sweet and spicy. My 10-year-old son and Mom had the pepperoni pizza. They both gave it a thumbs up. Bonus that it's cheap, fast and close to Mom's house.

Not much to look at on the inside but the tandoori pizza and ghost pepper pizza were great. Very unique.

Kept hearing about this place from friends and decided to try it. They've always provided good, super-fast service. The prices are so low, it's outrageous. I paid like $11 for a large round including delivery and tip and they got it here in good time. The price on their regular pizza is about the best thing you can say about it, but the Chicago-style deep dish is phenomenal, on par with Pizza Papalis. Have yet to give the thin crust a try.

There is no way in the world i would rate this spot any less than five stars. It's half impossible to get decent pizza in the north side of Detroit, let alone tandoori chicken pizza. I sometimes question my fellow yelpers opinions. and in this case this is one of them. First of all, when you arrive to pick up your order, the owner slides your pizzas up and opens the boxes for you to examine them and get your approval. Second, this might possibly be the dankest pizza around the city limits, (no dis suppinos.) The crust on the square is thick and crunchy to the bite, the various sauces are unusual and their flavors translate well to pizza. The spice pizza has spicy ground beef, green chili, cheese, onions and cilantro. WHAT cilantro? Hell yes. The round holds up to the weight of a pile of toppings. We got the spinach and feta round and were very pleased to see a golden brown crust with a sea of spinach and feta. Not only is it a super food value, but it's not your run of the mill hot and sweaty pizza. I do admit that they could use better quality meats and cheeses, and the thin crust isn't all that amazing. However, the spice, spinach, naga, and meat pile pizza round or square is the real deal. I also give them props for quick and hot delivery. That is truly a rarity in these parts and comes with a great deal gratitude. Thank you amar's, we'll be calling.

these are my homies they keep it real advice: order a pineapple jalapeno pizza with tandoori sauce. get all your pizzas round. get a side of naga sauce and believe in yourself. the american dream is still alive and it can be realized by eating amar pizza naga, spice, spinach and tandoori pizzas are the kings of the bengali bazaar (at least for pizza, aladdin's still has a special place in my heart) plus this place has a super swanky commercial. youtube.com/watch?v=cZ_k… AMAR PIZZA IS YOUR PIZZA

A nice hole in the wall pizza takeout place. Ambiance = 0, in fact it's a bullet proof restaurant that resembles most any Detroit gas station, probably out of necessity. Prices are fantastic. I've tried several different pizzas at this point, and found them all good. I'd like to see the crust a bit more crispy crunchy just on the outside, and still soft on the inside. I have tried the naga pizza and the ghost pepper pizza ("extreme heat - eat at own risk") and all I can say is, Zimmern, I love your show but you're a wimp LOL!! I found the latter fantastic and the flavor, presumably of the pepper itself, uniquely delish. Try it, you really can't go wrong. The four stars are purely for the food, making something interesting out of boring old pizza.

The service is great and the food is outstanding. I live nearby, but I would drive in and eat it at one of their tables if I had to. Whenever I leave town for a few weeks, this is one of the places I miss and hit up as soon as I return. I usually have some of their pizza at every party I throw and they invariably impress my guests. I love their spice pizza and their veggie pizza. Their square crust is great! I had a thin crust once and found that pizza to be good rather than the amazing I have come to expect!

Came all the way here from NYC because of how amazing the naga pizza tastes according to some of my friends. I was not disappointed at all. Tastes better than I thought. Amazing spot. Will be back here a lot

  • Chelsea H.

Meh. It's okay. Points for unusual pizza topping options, but in the end it tastes just like pizza that you make at home. The crust is lacking that special crispiness that is hard to get without a commercial oven. Ghost pepper pizza was fine, but nothing I'd go out of my way to eat again. I heard their square pizza was great, but upon trying it, it was only a solid mediocre. Probably won't order from here again, but would eat a slice if it happened to appear in front of me by magic.

  • Jessica K.

Interesting flavors! We got half spicy fish and tandoori chicken. So I surprise here, the fish pie was über fishy and pretty spicy, but not bad! I wouldn't order it again, but I would eat it if it were around... But the tandoori was really good! Sweet and tangy! I definitely want to try other specials, like shwarma and gyro!

Heard the reviews decided to check it out wanted ghost pizza but didn't want to waste $$$ went for naga pizza instead (suggested by the lady working the register)less intense heat it was a great choice plus I tried the chicken biryani overall food was really good and tasted fresh I would definitely return again

Good pizza but absolutely terrible customer service! A little bit of politeness and humbleness can go a long freakin way. But knowing Bengali ppl, they have a hard time understanding that half of the times. Plus if they knew what fresh ingredients are, it would really help their business. Sorry to go hard on you guys but you just can't do that to your customers!

You have to give this place their due. I've ordered pizza from here twice and tried both the thin crust and regular hand-tossed crust. Both were done really well and met and/or exceeded my expectations. The Chicago ultra-deep dish is next. Guy behind the glass told me call it in as it takes 45 minutes or so to cook. Noted. Toppings range from the standards to exotic (to my taste buds at least) which would be the Bengali flavors. I still don't know what naga sauce is but I've had it twice and I like it. It's all halal here so expect zero pork based toppings. I couldn't tell the difference and am guessing they are beef based instead. I've also eaten the hot dogs several times. I've had the naga dog, the plain dog, and the tandoori dog. All were delicious and my Eastern European palate had idea what to make of it. Quality all around here. Still exploring the menu and flavors. Clearly one of the best pizza places in town and possibly the metro area. It's different but in a great way.

I saw this place on yelp, and although I dont live in Hamtramck the menu seemed interesting enough to leave my area. The menu is a mix of Indian foods on Pizza. Upon picking up the pizza the smell was just as interesting and appetizing as the menu, and I was excited to get home and try it. As a self proclaimed pizza aficionado, this pizza has become instantly one of my favorite joints around. I had no idea that so much flavor and spice could be put into a deep dish pizza. I will definitely be trying the rest of the menu. After eating this pizza I wanted to call the place and thank them, but I figured a 5 star rating should suffice.

Continuing my firm belief of "try everything at least once" motto, we tried halal & Bangladeshi pizza for the first time. I've had this bookmarked for awhile but being Ramadan and having had amazing Bangladeshi food at Aladdin Sweets & Cafe 3 days ago, I was inspired for more ethnic eats. With so many 4 star reviews and a visit by Andrew Zimmern, how can you not? {{I will preface this by saying DF was very, very hesitant....He's always open to new experiences but eating is a personal experience and he didn't want his taste buds to be violated with a concept so foreign. Go with something new like their own specialty pizza's and something you know like a veggie & even pepperoni pizza.}} 1 word : UNIQUE is how I would describe this overall 4 star pizza joint. For our typical #pizzafriday we got 2 square deep dish but instead of getting our usual pizza & cheesy bread, we skipped the cheesy bread for aforementioned 2nd pizza. My logic was 2 small squares with half & half on each so we could try as much of their popular choices as possible. $26 later, we're fans! 1) Dry Fish pizza: Dried shrimp, roasted garlic, onions, cilantro and spicy fish paste sauce. The highly (but stinky) pizza everyone recommended was calling my name. Fish paste and dried shrimp isn't a new concept to me. Its in a lot of Vietnamese and Filipino cuisine but I was interested in how this would taste on a pizza. The idea is that the paste and shrimp get crunchy during the baking process and it sure does. It's like the texture of fried shallots (often found on Banh cuon for Vietnamese food). If you can get over the smell, its worth trying! Oh, and ask for a side of Naga sauce which is like a marinara sauce with some ghost peppers for a little kick. We dipped our pizza in that and it was so good! 2) Tandoori pizza: Tandoori chicken breast, red onions and cheese in their special tandoori sauce. This was spicier than the dry fish pizza even though the pizza says "Spicy fish paste sauce." Its also sweeter which I don't remember tandoori being so sweet. I honestly didn't like it as much as I hoped I would being that I love tandoori chicken. Ask for a side of tandoori sauce to dip the pizza in and it's so much spicier and good! 3) Vegetarian Pizza: your typical veggie pizza with mushrooms, olives, green peppers, tomatoes but BONUS: Broccoli & breaded eggplant! Wow that eggplant took it to a whole new level. I like that it was breaded b/c regular eggplant needs to be "sweated" lest it seep a watery mess all over your pizza. Breading & frying it like eggplant parmesan (and who doesn't love fried eggplant parmesan slathered in cheese?) and adding slices all over the pizza was creative. I've had broccoli on pizza before and this was good but could've been cut into smaller florets so that it would give it more of a roasted flavor during the baking process. Def a fan! 4) Mediterranean Pizza: Homemade garlic sauce, marinated chicken breast, tomatoes, black olives and red onions and cilantro. This was good but I feel Amar missed the boat on this one. It was lacking that Mediterranean flavor. I think there should've been some feta on this pizza and some oregano spices. Next time I wanna try the Spice Pizza & Gyro Pizza. Maybe not the Naga Pizza only b/c I got a side of the sauce so I think I have an idea of what that would taste like. You can tell their customers like trying out new flavors b/c the girl picking up next to me got Philly Cheese Steak Pizza and she said she's tried the Spinach & Gyro and thought it was tasty. Pro Tip: Ask for side naga & tandoori sauce ($0.25 ea) and they even have ranch if you're that type of pizza eater.

I just reheated 2 slices of pizza my husband brought home from Amar. I had slice of the Mediterranean and a slice of the ghost chili one. Absolutely excellent! I just looked up this place and see all the rave reviews. I agree. I will have to go get the dried fish one next!

Hands down best pizza I've had in michigan (or anywhere, cuz Chicago is good, but not as unique, and New York pizza blows). I got the ghost pepper pizza. I was pleasantly surprised that the spice didn't overwhelm the flavor. There was heat but tons of flavor. Even in the ghost pepper, you could taste it's natural smoky flavor. My girlfriend got the chicken tandoori pizza, which was surprisingly better. Very authentic Indian taste, but on a pizza. It was insane. Whether you're a fan of pizza or not, you'll love their pies. I can't say enough good things about this place. It's cheap too!

Awesome pizza, I love the fact that it's not as greasy as other pizza places, and they offer some other alternatives as well, if you're in the Hamtramck area, then this is an amazing place to try :)

Yeah. I dare you.

Try the hot dogs. I recommend tandoori or ghost. Also, you can't go wrong with spice pizza. Such a gem.

Great pizza, great service and the BEST fried chicken in Hamtramck!!! That may sound odd, but not when you're talking about Hamtramck.
