Awesome breakfast. Very good prices. Its what I expected from a small town restraunt. I had an omlet which was cooked perfectly and was fairly good size. The american fries/hash browns were very good. Homemade toast was also very good. For sure its a good spot for breakfast.

Excellent simple and delicious turkey dinner. Also, service was excellent and extremely friendly. However, the Raspberry Cream Pie was the best slice of pie I have ever had. Get it a la mode. Will definitely be back here when I am back in town.

Wonderful staff and tasty food. I brought a group of teens from Ann Arbor and everyone was impressed with the quality of the dishes. The raspberry cream pie was fresh and tasted heavenly.

We stopped in on our way through on a very long road trip from NY to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We both got a simple 1/4lb cheeseburger. They were delicious!! Waitresses were pleasant and it was clean. I would go back for their famous turkey dinner!!

Great food for lunch and dinner, but my 5th star is for their breakfast. The skillets and omelets are amazing. If your a bacon lover (whose not!)...this may become your favorite restaurant. Every time my dad comes to town, the first words out of his mouth are "so when are we going to the gobbler". Service is always with a smile and the food comes out fast.

What a neat place that is packed full of history and hometown flavor. I had the pound of cod and it was really flavorful. I substituted the coleslaw with cottage cheese that was cottage cheese. The other folks in my party were quite happy with their meals and the atmosphere was quite nice as it's a small place and the crowd is friendly with a mix of local and almost local (tourist/ area folks).

Great little place in Gaylord. Great service and you can't be turkey for a good comfort food. S wish I had room for the homemade pie.

Perhaps one of two restaurants in Michigan that actually specialize in the old fashioned turkey dinner. Tony's in Birch Run being the other. Using mainly Michigan raised turkeys, Gobblers makes an effort to make Thanksgiving an everyday experience. Man, I dig this concept but Gobblers doesn't go the distance. My big complaint is that ALL of the vegetables are canned yet most everything else is made in-house. What a let down considering the homemade nature of the rest of the meal. Mashed potatoes are good and clearly made with lumpy love but the gravy could be better. Also, the dressing could be better. Mine was too crumbly, dry and bland. Disappointing as the dressing is actually my favorite part. More herbs and garlic please. Biscuits were decent though. Onion rings and hand dipped and a steal for $3.00. A normal person's portion will run you $8.00 but people with larger appetites might indulge in the AYCE for $15.00. The menu is far more extensive than turkey dinners because I just found out that some people actually don't like turkey. I blame certain defects in the gene pool for this. They have breakfast and a lengthy sandwich menu to include bison burgers. Most likely frozen. They have a 7 piece perch dinner for only $12.00. Never tried it but try to find that anywhere for under $15.00 anywhere else. How about 30 pieces of smelt or 42 pieces of shrimp for $13.00? Again, most likely frozen. A family of four is most likely to spend $40.00. It isn't cheap but it's not bad either. With perhaps a little more love, Gobblers would be due another star.

Everyone needs to try the turkey noodle soup, YUM....&&& i am sure i won't be leaving w/out trying the pie! Best Turkey dinner place I have ever dined at, besides my daughter's house!

The sides where just okay. The turkey was good (although a few dry spots). Good tourist/local joint with reasonable prices. It wasn't spectacular but it was a fun basic American turkey restaurant :) Service was fine.

(I reserve my 5 star ratings.) Crazy good turkey. You would drive right by Gobblers if you didn't know it was there. This place makes me feel like I'm at grandma's for holiday dinner. Super friendly staff. Great fast service. This place is the pinnacle of simple perfection. I stop here even when just driving thru the area. Other menu items but the turkey is just so good I've never tried anything else. Turkey noodle soup is also perfect. To the owners - Thank You. Your establishment gives me a warm feeling inside.

I have ate at the Gaylord location and have always had good food & service. This last visit, however, was a deal breaker for me. It's all in the people you hire. My boyfriend's burger came out incorrectly, which we decided was no major issue since we could get it remade without the toppings he is allergic to. Our waiter never returned after delivering our food and I had to wave him down. He brought the burger back and said "Sorry, don't know what happened." After that, he never came back to our table. He wasn't with other tables, either. He disappeared back into the kitchen. We sat for twenty minutes waiting for our bill, which included being charged full price for a dish that had to be sent back. I was not impressed and while I love the food, I don't think I should have to pay for such bad quality service.

Turkey everything! If you love Thanksgiving dinner year-round then make this your first stop! Decent food, large portions, and good prices make this spot worth at least 1 visit.

Great little local restaurant, I wish it was a chain so I could eat there more often in my travels! Had the turkey of course. Just like mom used make, lumpy mashed potatoes and all.

  • Annette F.

The best turkey dinner. All accompaniments were perfect portions - not overdone. Pumpkin pie was fabulous! Awesome! Service was quick and friendly. Love love love it!

  • Sean E.

If you like roasted turkey this place has some of the best. The fresh made bread just tops off the open face turkey sandwich with gravy. The only downside is the sides. Stuffing is ok at best and the mashed potatoes taste like they've been reheated. But don't leave without a homemade pie. Everyone I've tried so far is wonderful.

Great turkey, friendly service. Once again, a great experience in a unique restaurant.

Ate here for breakfast on July 4th. Cheap and good food. Fast service too. The only complaint was we would of preferred traditional hash browns instead of their chunks of fried potatoes.

    (4)
  • Alan K.

Great food, prices, and portions. Had the smelt, perch, and walleye (all very good and fresh). Others enjoyed the jumbo wings, and good burger. You can tell they make most everything homemade. Make sure to stop by, pretty sure you will agree.

While in Gaylord for the weekend my friend took me here and this place is a slice of heaven the service was great and the food was even better i had the hot turkey sandwich with stuffing and mash it was a good size sandwich and so good my friend ordered there chicken strips which they make homemade and they were really good I ate here twice in two days and can't wait to go back

This is the textbook version of a friendly, small town, family restaurant. Our meals came out to about $10-12 each with beverages, and we were all pretty full by the time we made our exit. They do accept debit/credit cards, in case you're wondering. We stopped in on a Saturday in May around 6:00pm on our way from Detroit to the Upper Peninsula. About half the tables were occupied and the dining room had a calm hum of activity. There were a few initial glances from other patrons, probably locals who didn't recognize us out of towners, but after that first pause from eating, they went about their conversations and carried on as usual. The food came in big portions, the sodas were bottomless, and the high school aged wait staff was well trained, quick and courteous. I had, if I remember the name right, the Gobbler dog, a footlong plumper of a hot dog. It was as good as you can expect for a huge hot dog, but after seeing the good food that my table members got, I think I'd recommend getting one of their other dinner options. The sandwiches and the biscuits and gravy looked pretty good, if you have the appetite for it.

We stopped for dinner with our family today on the way to Mackinaw. I enjoyed my turkey dinner. The rest of my family thought their food was just ok. My husband ordered the wings special. He said that the "spicy" buffalo sauce was too runny and buttery, and not spicy at all, and the "mesquite" fries were just bland tasting fries. I noticed on Yelp that it says NO for wheelchair accessible, (my 9-yo daughter drives a powerchair) so I called the restaurant ahead of our arrival to ask. The lady on the phone told me it was accessible so we went ahead. My daughter was able to get into the restaurant without a problem, but we had trouble with the restroom which has very narrow doors and not enough of a turning radius. She had to park her chair outside of the restroom and I had to help her walk. All in all, I wouldn't consider this restaurant again.

For the area, this is probably the best value around. I ate here with a group of 10 men while on a snowmobiling trip in February 2013. It was the only place we ate that all 10 people were (a) completely full after eating, and (b) 100% satisfied with the meal. I had their turkey dinner, but I was equally tempted to try the open face prime rib sandwich as others in the group did. The turkey dinner was very good and topped off with a hot, freshly made biscuit with honey. The open faced prime rib sandwich that others ordered looked terrific, too. Prices are in the $7 to $15.00 range for a very filling dinner. The wait staff was exceptional, too. We had a young college student named Morgan who not only kept our glasses full, our plates cleared, and got our order (remember, a party of 10) perfect, but she also had a very cheerful personality and genuinely seemed to enjoy serving us. The other wait staff we saw (also mostly appearing to be young college girls) were equally pleasant. It's fairly close off the exit from I-75 and well worth the short detour for fairly priced, tasty traditional home style food.

This is my favorite restaurant In Gaylord. It's a must stop every time I'm in town. Best turkey noodle soup ever! Not to mention the owner is aways on site making sure everything is perfect! Great place.

Great food at very reasonable prices. I had the breakfast burrito for $3.99. It was the best version of this I have ever had, at an extremely reasonable price. The outside tortilla was crisply browned. The filling was a mixture of scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese and crisp vegetables. Friendly waitstaff with constant coffee fill ups and no pressure to leave.

What a home style restaurant should be. All freshly prepared daily including the dessert pastries. Staff is actually pleased to serve you. Stacy is terrific. When ever i visit gaylord (which is usually for a trip to jays) I always stop at gobblers. The turkey dinners are excellent, the fish is good, and its neat to look at everything on the walls and ceiling are awesome. I would also recommend the perch dinners too. Overall just a great place to eat.

We were on our way back from Mackinac Island to Chicago. We were looking for a spot for lunch so I pulled up Google maps - found the next town - then went to Yelp. When I saw a place called Gobbler's with pretty great reviews, how could we resist?? And we were not disappointed. The servers were so polite and so sweet. I had the Gobbler Baby and my roommate by marriage had the Pulled Turkey BBQ special. Our waitress, who I loved, recommended (and by recommended I mean pretty much told us to have) the strawberry shortcake for dessert - YUM!!!! So delicious - homemade buttermilk biscuit with ice cream, whipped cream, and fresh strawberries! The root beer they carry is also quite good. What a hidden gem!

Fantastic turkey dishes--we love the hot turkey sandwich with thick bread, gravy and mashed potatoes. Dinner for under $10 and huge helpings. You won't be disappointed.

  • Bruce T.

Good food, not great. Good service, not great. Portions are nice and the foods okay but I was expecting a little cheaper price for their turkey based menu items. Comfort food for sure in a cafe style restaurant. My wife and I were the youngest ones there and we're no spring chickens, or turkeys as the case may be.

Love it!! Our new favorite stop on I-75! Super fast service (5 minute wait for a full HOT plate of fresh and tasty food)! Nothing is too salty, either. Love the homemade desserts, too.

Hands down the best sandwich I have ever had came from this restaurant. I wish this type of establishment existed closer to me, I'd eat there all the time! Great atmosphere, great customer service and most importantly, AMAZING food. Everyone I dined with was blown away by how great their sandwiches were.

  • Rick M.

Ate at the restaurant on 6-24-13. Food was good but the portions of food advertised are deceiving. My wife had the gobbler turkey dinner with 4oz. I had the hen turkey dinner with 8oz. Other than the plates being different sizes, the portions of food were the same and I paid $2.80 more for my dinner. Did not appreciate being ripped off. I mentioned it to the waitress who checked me out, she said she will mention it to them to watch their portions better. That didn't do me any good. I will not return.

Gobblers is a little smoke free restaurant specializing in homemade turkey dinners. I wasn't sure what to expect from this place when we stopped here for lunch one Sunday afternoon. I was pleasantly surprised with the kitschy decorations and a menu with something to satisfy young and old taste buds alike. If you visit Gobblers during the summer try to sit in the adorable screened in porch area, or take a ride on the hanging porch swing while waiting your turn to eat. It will make this meal more of an experience. As for a recommendation, give the Applejack Turkey a test drive. Applebutter sauteed onions & peppers, melted cheese, bacon, honey mustard and turkey breast on grilled sourdough bread. The fries and onion rings are also made from scratch. If you are still hungry after your meal, or you just want to stop by to share some dessert, try the Giant Shortcake. Just make sure you have plenty of people in your party to share in this gooey cream, strawberries and shortcake delight.

I live here, and this is probably my favorite restaurant in town. They're very much into cooking their own food. It's basic standard American stuff, nothing highbrow (thank goodness!) and pretty much cooked from scratch on site. As you'd expect from the name, their specialty is the turkey dinner. They offer this in three sizes. The Baby Plate makes a reasonable lunch. The full dinner... well, they'll box the leftovers up so you can take them with you. What's a turkey dinner without leftovers? The pies are good. The cookies are good too; pick one up for fifty cents at the cash register on your way out, if you're so inclined. My favorite menu item has to be the turkey noodle soup, a large bowl for four dollars. They roast whole turkeys for their dinners, and the leftover turkey has to go somewhere, right? Well, a lot of it goes into the turkey noodle soup. It's soup that heaps and it's a heck of a good deal.

Don't be put off by the outside of the restaurant, or the handmade sign, this is a wonderful family restaurant. You can probably tell by the name that turkey dinner with all the trimmings is their specialty. Every day they cook whole turkeys and carve them up to serve with cranberry sauce, buttermilk biscuits and delicious fresh mashed potatoes and gravy. They also have a full serve bar. Once you eat at Gobbler's you'll be thinking about when you can go back!

  • Gerrit L.

They have a great menu. Turkey is king in this small box of a restuarant. I have heard that all of the fish as well as the hamburgers are great. I overheard the table next to me going on about how good and big their burritos. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Accomidating to small children. The menu is reasonably priced and has no flaws. Also, a large selection of deserts.

If you're driving through town or south on highway 75, make sure you stop at Gobbler's!!! The restaurant is considerably clean when you take into account its hometown charming nature. Usually at these kinds of places, a layer of historical film covers the tables and chairs, but Gobbler's is an exception. All past reviews raved about the turkey dinners. 2/5 of my a party ordered this and agreed that it's delicious. No food was left on their plate, not even the gravy. Depending on what size you get, it comes with a freshly baked roll, green beans, mashed potatoes, and stuffing. I was lucky enough to get a bite of a dinner roll. I can still smell it an hour away. One of my brothers ordered the Gobbler Burger. This meal isn't for the faint hearted. When the waitress brought it out, all of our eyes grew three times in size, one for each of the patties on the burger. In all it totals a pound of beef with three different types of cheese and bacon. All of this is held together on a homemade bun as big as my face (and it's not like I have a small face). My 15 year old brother put away 2/3 of this burger along with a cup of the baked potato and ham soup. When we got back in the car to continue our road trip, he promptly took a nap. No complaints from that one. Meanwhile (as a home vegan/vacationing vegetarian), I was expecting to have to put together some sort of weird meal with a few sides, but instead, I was pleased to discover a vegetarian sandwich on the menu! It was so good, I'll be attempting to recreate the meal at home. My sandwich included tomato, lettuce, homemade pickles, caramelized mushroom and onion, and two different types of cheese. Again, all of these was on a homemade bun. Delicious!!! I ordered the side salad to help round out of meal; it was what you would expect from a type of restaurant that doesn't specialize in nutrient dense vegetable. Romaine lettuce, tomatoes, and raspberry vinaigrette is still good any day though. If you order nothing else, make sure to try a slice of the raspberry cream pie! The five of us split one piece, and it was probably gone in 30 seconds. Wow!!! They also offer a long list of other cakes and homemade brownies prepared to take home, but we were so stuffed we couldn't manage it. You can tell this place is a local staple. They were busy the entire time we were there. Every staff member was friendly and accommodating. Do not overlook this place! And as always... tip your server!!!

Not impressed. Our server was a cantankerous old lady with an attitude problem. The food was pretty nasty, too. My Prime Rib sandwich was about 40% fat and tough as leather. And it was served on toast. Toast... Really?!? The "Au Jus" seemed to be a mix of vegetable oil and bullion powder. GROSS. The onion rings had enough oil in them to lube a battleship. The chicken tenders were SO close to being awesome though. The breading was an excellent texture and had a great flavor from the herbs but, again, we're so frickin' greasy that they were inedible. They either need to raise their oil temp or get a bigger fryer to prevent overloading. The Frisco Burger and Turkey Noodle soup looked good and the brownies were fine. My Iced Tea tasted like it had coffee mixed in, which was really weird, but actually tasted good. Someone else at my table got iced tea and it was normal. I asked the waitress if they had two different types or what and she said, "No... (With a tone and facial expression like I was some kind of idiot for asking). They must have accidentally mixed in some coffee.. " and she walked away. No "oops" or "I'm sorry". So basically, stick to the Turkey items and hope you don't get the haggard old bird of a waitress.

The atmosphere here is very eclectic, but fun. The service this time was very unorganized. People seated later would get menu first. The visits of our waitress were far and few between. After finally ordering our meal took much longer to arrive than others. I needed a drink refill and that was a long wait. Waiting to pay took way too long. We ordered 2 Hen meals (medium) and I ordered a Gobbler (large). The meal consists of turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing, cranberry, & biscuit. Just the amount of turkey varies. I got all white meat & extra mashed instead of green beans, both upgrade charges. After my complaints about the service the simple fact remains, who Cares! The food is amazing. You can have a great Thanksgiving Dinner whenever you want. Sold! Even with the negatives this remains a 5 star meal to me. Good thing it's not closer to me because I'd be here way too often.

This place is definitely down home. They are known for the turkey and dressing dish which we had. Guaranteed you won't leave hungry. For dessert we had ice cream (very firm soft serve... As good as the Dairy Grill in Charlevoix... Wonderful) and the most fabulous cherry pie. We went back the next day for more of that pie. Unfortunately they were sold out. We had to wait two more days before they had any. Update...I had originally given this restaurant 4 stars. Sadly, I must now give it two stars. We wanted to have just their cherry pie with ice cream. Yes, they were busy but there were many booths empty. When we said we were interested in dessert only, a very loud mouth man was rude to the point that we left never to return. We didn't mind being asked to wait to be seated so a group who wanted to order dinner could go in front of us. It was how the very loud man asked us as well as s few choice words he said before asking us to step aside. He may have thought he was very cute and clever but it came across as very rude and demeaning.

The first time I was here...five stars all the way. This time, however, it was different. We waited a long time to be seated, even though everyone not only saw us, but walked past a few times and didn't acknowledge us. We were seated, and ordered food for all 6 of us. I ordered the same thing I ordered last time- the 4oz turkey plate. This time, the turkey wasn't as flavorful, all of our mashed potatoes were cold, and it took a long time to get our bill. They weren't very busy either. I'm not sure what as going on in the back, but they would go back there and not reappear for a long time. That's why we were seated right away, nor given a bill right away. I did notice the highly energetic manager we saw last time wasn't there this time. Maybe that had something to do with it, I don't know.... Anyway, I'm a little Leary about the inconsistency from only a month ago. I think we will try it again and see if this time was just a fluke...

Great place to stop for a home cooked meal!! Everyone was so nice here. Who doesn't love a "thanksgiving dinner"!! I loved it and it wasn't far off the highway. I had the baby 4 oz meal and it had plenty of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans and cranberry sauce. This is an Americana restaurant! Have fun!

  • S G.

Consistently good food. The turkey dinners are really good, and the breakfast skillets are surprisingly good for somewhere known for its dinners (seems like most places can nail one or the other, less often they nail both). I reserve 5 stars for places that wow me, or have a dish I find myself craving often. So, 4 stars is still pretty great, and we'll definitely be back. Good food, nice waitstaff, decent hours. Will return.

It does have atmosphere, but I think it is a little pricey for what it is. The turkey is fairly good. I had the13.99 meal for the 12 ounce turkey, 1.49 extra for all white meat and 2.29 for a Coke with tax came to $18.84 for myself.... it's good, but pricey.... for a few dollars more, you could go with the "all you can eat" turkey meal and just starve yourself before you came here. The turkey was good, gravy excellent, mashed potatoes and stuffing good, but skimpy portions for those.... the bun was crappy that they served. Soft drink of good size and great service too. Yahoo, I shot of cranberry sauce for something I guess... not sure what... maybe the bun that came from a tube that was smacked on the corner of a table. Seating sucks if you choose a front booth.... your sitting sideways next to others. My food came before the woman's who was sitting next to me.... i could see her having a food orgasm watching me eat before her food came. I have good manners, no open mouth food eating, proper silverware handling like Edward Scissor hands, but the lady was eying me down like the kid who was raised by wolves in France...... get a table.... trust me.

Stopped for lunch on our way north. DH had the 8 oz turkey plate and I had the special open face turkey sandwich with a cup oh turkey noodle soup. The soup was good (not fabulous). The noodles were good, but the soup could have used some seasoning. The turkey was delicious, moist and flavorful. The mashed potatoes were a bit dry. The service was great in and out in about 45 minutes. Good but not nearly as good as the turkey roost outside of bay city.

Cute place with LOTS of windows. We both ordered the small open face hot turkey sandwich. I was super happy with the meal. I had pointed out to our server that I wanted the daily special-$6.99 for a open face hot turkey sandwich. Ate it. Even got the raspberry cream pie-which was really good. However when I got my bill I was charged for the 9.99 meal... Which wasn't what I ordered. Even after asking for clarification (because I pointed to the damn special) she said what we are was the sandwich, which was 9.99. Not what I had pointed too... So I walked out paying for a $30 meal that wasn't worth $30. Very disappointed.

My meal came with 1/2 of the ingredients listed, and the fries were raw. I absolutely never complain at restaurants even if it's not good as it's simply not my personality type to do so. But I came in starving and was looking at the serious possibility of leaving very hungry. So I mentioned it to the waitress and she said they were too busy to re make it for me and I'd have to get in line behind all the other orders. I left hungry and uncomfortable, and extremely disappointed. Enough said.

  • Lorrie G.

The service here is slow at best, even take out. Called in my order, stood waiting for over 15 minutes without being waited on-actually pointedly ignored-only to find out my order hadn't been placed. Two dinners for $27 would've turned into $40 order as I would have taken a pie too if they weren't so oblivious to customer service. At the time they had about 10 tables and three waitresses, no reason for such shoddy service.

Our favorite restaurant in Gaylord is Gobblers! Whatever dish they make with their turkey is awesome. When we come down from the UP, we always stop there. Today we had their wonderful turkey soup and their homemade peanut butter cookies! If you're a dessert lover, this is the restaurant for you!! Pam G. From Traverse City

Turkey dinner was great. Didn't understand the portion of cranberry sauce (a shot glass size maybe). Stopped here based on reviews and was a little less than thrilled. There were five of us - so we would say stick with their specialties.

Found this by accident, best place for a good turkey dinner. Took my bus load of seniors there. Everyone raves about it! Call ahead for groups though. They will take great care of you! I will definitely be adding this in for my stops every time I come through town!!

***I visited the Waters location, but wanted to share here too!! Great turkey- loved it! The pictures don't do it justice- very moist and very tasty. The mashed potatoes were excellent too, nice and lumpy. :) It was a little surprising that the highway signs said turkey dinners $6.99 (didn't say starting at) and when you go in, a man sized portion is $12 bucks. Can't sustain a 240 lb man on a tiny portion! :) Either way, it was really good, will stop again for sure. I do have so give the Turkey Roost in Kawkawlin the nod for speed and tradition, but y'all can get there. The concept is much better than Bros Bistro was I think. It was obvious when I was there Monday for lunch and the lot was full. You're doing something right when you can get that many people off I-75 on the waters exit! @ Neil Y- C'mon my brother in food... Tony's is decent, but not sure how you can put out a list of Michigan turkey dinner places without including the Turkey Roost, and Cornwell's Turkeyville in Marshall!! We should tour turkey joints! Ha ha! Not to worry, Gobbler's, it'll work- keep up with the great food and good service too! Oh- and the Raspberry Cream Pie. Holy cow that was awesome!!!

Home-cooked food including fresh made bread and desserts at its finest. This place is a real gem of northern Michigan!! Stacy, the waitress in the morning, was extremely personable and professional! Can't wait to go back!

Good food with good service. The atmosphere was not bad. There are old posters, license plates, and farm house hanging lights all over the place (even on the ceiling ). We arrived around 3pm so we missed the lunch special but enjoyed the dinner specials. There were 4 in our party and everyone had a different meal. The two best meals were the Hot turkey sandwich and the prime rib sandwich. No complaints on those two. The other two meals were not bad but just nothing to write home about. I guess when I ordered the wet burrito at a turkey restaurant I should not have expected much. Like I said before it was not bad just not a meal to brag about. Over all the experience was a good one. Before leaving I went into the restroom to wash my hands and found the room very pleasant. I believe it was recently remodeled.
