Maybe I'm missing something but this place was nothing special. The best part of our meal was the chips and salsa and that's not saying much. I got the burrito Mexicano. Two smallish burritos with chicken or beef. They were generic and unimpressive. My wife got the chicken fajitas. The chicken had some good flavor but cheese was extra and the refried beans were paste-like and bland. Our server was unengaged and rarely seen. I never thought I'd go to La Senorita's again but after going here I'm considering it. If you want an unauthentic, tasteless meal in a colorful environment, you've found your place.

I was staying at the Holiday Inn next door and decided to try this place based on a recommendation. Since I was traveling by myself and typically don't like to go to full service restaurants by myself (I find myself staring awkwardly at other people and listening to their conversations unintentionally), I was hesitant, but went anyway. Now, it probably helped that I am a young woman, but I was greeted very warmly and received excellent service. A gentleman who appeared to be the manager recommended the Burrito Loco and I ordered it. It was delicious! It was far more than I could eat, but I tried, because it was basically a flavor explosion. Will definitely go back next time I am in town!

Friendly and very clean. Nice atmosphere. Food okay; nothing special. My quesadilla had spinach and cheese but nothing else. It was too salty too. Friendly and very clean. Nice atmosphere. Food okay; nothing special. My quesadilla had spinach and cheese but nothing else. It was too salty too.

Might have to say this is as good as it gets for Northern Michigan, Mexican food. This is a traditional Mexican restaurant with a wide variety of choices. It is located in a strip mall, which might throw you off a bit, but the food is great and made with fresh ingredients. I Love the casual, Mexican style, atmosphere and the owner and wait staff are always very friendly. This is not Tex-Mex food , but authentic, traditional fare.

It was fine. Clean. Corn chips not that good. Chile relleno had a very tasty pepper--so that was good. Rice and beans--pretty normal for this kind of place.

Decent food. Go for lunch, dinner prices aren't worth it. Wait staff is quuck and friendly. Nothing is very spicy, so if that's your thing maybe bypass this place.

Service was great...the staff (I think are the owners) was very attentive. Our food was served quickly, large portions and very authentic. Decor was pretty cool too.

Delicious! Stopped here for lunch while driving through Gaylord. The service is prompt and the food is authentic. Like most mexican restaurants, they have a decent variety of veggie options. Loved the guac, fajitas, enchiladas and chalupa. Definitely eat here if you are around.

Had lunch with the family. Chorizo was very good I had the vegetable fajitas it wasn't bad but I wish the veggies were fresh not frozen. Guacamole was disappointing had a lot of onions and other things in it not sure but it tasted like the avocado was frozen not good. This was the best we have had in MI. Would have given it a 4 star if it wasn't for the guacamole.

Back again. Anyone who doesn't like this place doesn't like authentic Mexican food. The chips and salsa and guacamole are fantastic! The Margaritas are awesome!!! Everything on the menu is great!!!

Delicious and fast. This location and their sister store in Petosley have it down-pat for fast service with hot food and delicious margaritas.

A very very friendly place! Most mexican restaurants have really friendly and jolly waiters but this one was really out of the place. We were seated by a friendly hostess and then a cheerful waiter who introduced himself as Sam came to serve us. There were frequent use of words -'amigo', 'si' while conversing with us that made us feel warm. The salsa was very good, tangy, and spicy. The chips were warm. Our order arrived fast too- we had fajitas, chimichangas with rice and beans (of course guacamole). The food was good and flavorful. All in all a good experience. Good service, good food, friendly waiters. I would visit this place if we ever visit Michigan again.

The food here is awesome. I usually order the Pollo Monterey when I go there. Its a large meal so I usually bring about half home with me to eat the next day. The fried ice cream is excellent. Some of the staff aren't fluent in English but they are still pretty friendly.

Great meal. Food seems authentic and is reasonably priced. Our waiter didn't hound us, but we didn't really mind as we were too busy eating. I know one reviewer found the beans to be bland, but I actually liked their flavor and consistency. I ordered a combo fajita plate of chicken, beef, and chorizo. A little light on beef for my taste, but it was flavorful overall and sizzling hot when it arrived. My other dining partners ordered different burritos and enjoyed them both. Simple, yet flavorful. Ample portions. This is no La Señorita or Chi-Chi's. I put this in the same league of the authentic restaurants I've enjoyed, including the ones in Mexicantown in Detroit. A nice surprise in Gaylord! We will be back.

It's quite possible this may be the best Mexican food in Gaylord. Really. There aren't a lot of options here. The food is decent, but nothing spectacular. My tamales seemed to have a lot of corn and very little pork. I'd go back, but would have to try something different.

Awesome authentic Mexican food. Service can be a little difficult as not all staff are fluent English speaking. But thats why its authentic! Fun atmosphere, clean, friendly. Expect to spend $10-12 per adult plus drinks. Highly recommend the fried ice cream. We will definitely be back!

Somehow a review for another place got posted here? Anyways, this place is alright. The best you'll find in town, but I'm used to great authentic places down in the Detroit area. Wish they'd find their way up here, then everyone would know what real Mexican is like! It's really good, not satisfied with the guacamole. They purée it. Beans and rice are really good though. Love the quesadillas.

The food was excellent. It didn't taste like restaurant Mexican food, but like it was prepared in someone's kitchen. Great food, good price, good service, high recommend.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
