Riverside used to be a wonderful place to eat with good service. The last two times we were disappointed. We thought we would try it one more time We were again disappointed and it will be our last trip. The food was just ok, but the service was horrible. The waitress delivered our food and our breakfast bill at the same time. We never saw our waitress again. We had to ask another waitress for a second cup of coffee, never did get a third. Had to ask another waitress three times for a to go box All waitresses were obviously not happy. Third strike.

Okay, so we picked up family from an early morning Sunday flight, and figured we would give them another chance. Well, a bad move. Cold French toast, sausage patties that had been seemingly re cooked several times and dried out (how can you dry out sausage???), burnt toast, eggs that weren't done. The taste and quality of all of our breakfasts were just down right bad. The prices have went up as well. The family we picked up were the ones that wanted to go to Riverside. Just go to Burger King or McDonalds. Or the gas station. I'm leaving it to 2 stars because I'm not sure on the quality of their dinners. But, there will not be another review from me!

This seems to be a breakfast favorite in the area, however it's one of few breakfast places in Freeland (outside of fast food). -It has a "mom and pop" feel. -The staff is fairly balanced between friendly and not-so friendly. -The wait is fairly short when you arrive as it's usually fairly busy for breakfast. -The person seating you is generally the host or similar, so don't expect to order drinks right away. Sometimes the time for your waiter to arrive can feel like you've been forgotten. -The portion sizes seem to slowly be reducing as the prices have slowly increased. Overall the food is good for breakfast. -I have mostly gotten breakfast from here, with one exception being a dinner item which was ok and I cannot remember the name of it.

Riverside Family Restaurant was the May stop for the Great Lakes/Bay Supper Club. We had a group of 8 that didn't all arrive together and those of us who got there first were seated for at least 20 minutes before anyone came to get our drink orders. There were even servers who came into the room where we were seated and no one asked if we'd been helped. Once the whole group got there and we were introduced to our servers it took about another 30 minutes before our food orders were taken. Luckily, the food was fantastic and once we got our orders in, didn't take long to arrive at all. Everything was obviously homemade. I had the Chicken Florentine which was fresh and filling and cooked and seasoned perfectly. Everyone in our group agreed that the food was worth the wait. Of course, we had to get pie. Mine was the Banana Cream which is topped with Meringue and delicious. Portions are generous, to say the least, and most entrees are served with 3 (THREE!) sides which is either a good thing or a bad thing, I can't decide. Overall, the food saved the service. I'd go back and hope for better service.

Visiting Midland and were referred to this place by friends. Homemade bread and pies are incredible! Our waitress was awesome. We sat at a booth and watched the squirrels at feeders. I had an olive burger and the meat is nicely seasoned. Make sure you get pie!!! Don't think I've ever had a better coconut cream pie.

Burgers are large and juicy. The burgers appear to be hand made. Coconut Shrimp was awesome. My plate had six good size shrimp though they were not jumbo's. Can't beat the price of $9.29 for shrimp, fries, slaw and roll. It did take awhile (25 min.) to receive food. It's worth the wait. We will be back.

Sadly, this place has gone downhill. Portion sizes have shrunk as prices have soared. Their very good Sunday pot roast must be 50 percent higher in price than 5 years ago. Service was iffy on a recent visit - not enough wait staff, and rather inattentive to basics like refilling iced tea and coffee. Hope they can get back to their old standards.

It's alright depending on what you're looking for. You will be able to count the people under 55 years old on two hands. The burgers are pretty good. $5.49 and they have the balls to charge another $1.99 for lettuce and tomato and another $2.99 for fries! The cod is good. The soups are just flat out weird, the side dishes are stuff they just nuke and serve. The rolls are good and the specials like turkey and pot roast are good. The breakfast is just so-so. They serve it all day but it's not cheap. The pies are all good. Not the greatest pies you'll have in your life but they're pretty damn good. Better than the crap that grocery stores try to pass off as pie. So make sure you get pie, or go just for the pie.

Great place for pies! It is great how they have a setup on their desk to have diners watch the squirrels through the windows. I just have to be careful to keep my distance from the squirrels since I'm nuts. :)

Flies all over and very bad service. Took over an hour to get our food. The food was excellent as always though but they need better help and more of it. Loved this place but now very disappointed...

I have been to this restaurant a lot growing up, I have fond memories! I had not been here for many years. We had a birthday gathering here last August. I ordered chicken tenders and fries. My side came out quickly; cottage cheese and coleslaw, my faves. The cottage cheese was warm and very old, couldn't even swallow it, it was spoiled, very gross. The coleslaw was old and tasted terrible. The chicken was dry and tough, I would rather go hungry and I did. No one else looked like they were enjoying their food either, except my mom that got a salad and soup. The only redeeming factor were the fries, they were great. The service was slow, we even had two waiters that kept screwing up ordered and drinks. All said, I would never go back here. It has become so run down, terrible food, and lacking service.

2 stars. Food is pretty blah. I guess good for a small town. Family style restaurant, lots of regulars. I'll add another star for their pies.

The best things here are the specials -- particularly the pot roast on Sundays -- and the pie. The pot roast is tender, succulent, perfectly seasoned and comes with small potatoes and carrots. Riverside usually has a large selection of delicious pies, with my favorite being the coconut cream. It's a nice family restaurant -- good value for the money.
