One of my favorite things about this place is that they are open all winter. Wait a minute, that's not at all my favorite thing. It's the pizza! Pizza is one of those things that everyone is an "expert" on. They know what is the BEST pizza. Well one thing is sure, I've been getting pizza here for almost 20 years and feeding crowds of guests at the cottage from all over and I can only think of ONE person who didn't like the pizza. She also didn't care for Crystal Lake or Moomer's ice cream either, so we're pretty sure she was just crazy. The sauce is a more on the salty/garlicky side as opposed to sweet. I prefer savory to sweet on pizza. The crust is baked in a pan but isn't greasy so I suspect they don't add oil to their pans like pizza hut. It's a nice, chewy crust. And you can season it too! My personal favorite is garlic and sesame. You'd be crazy to order original crust here unless it's for the kids. To this day I find it remarkable they are able to make their sauce and dough in house. I say this because outside of metropolitan areas, this practice isn't common. This location lacks viable dine in, the atmosphere is starting to look a little old and needs some freshening up, but the pizza is just great. I, and my friends, honestly wish they'd open a location in Chicago. And that's saying something! In fact I'm writing this review from Chicago now and what I'd do to have one of their Buddha pizzas delivered!!! I hope people in Frankfort appreciate having such great pizza in a small town!
Everything Crust? I think so. $12.50 for a large pepperoni pizza with a fluffy crispy crust that has the spices and toppings of an everything bagel on the outside. Papanos pizza would probably be 4 stars were it not for this delicious novelty but you really can't beat this combination of tastiness, affordability and convenience. Big winner.
Whatever you do, get the "everything" crust. You won't be disappointed! The subs as I recall are pretty tasty, too... but it's all about the pizza love. Once your order is ready, you can sit outside on a bench and watch life go by as you eat. It's the best of summer!

never again ....
Had one of the worst meals in my life here. Terrible service. Terrible food. And to top it off, someone stole my credit card when we paid and went on a shopping spree in Frankfort.
I live in NW Michigan and this is one of favorite places. Friendly, local and excellent food. Not great wine or beer selection, but they seem to have decent ones at decent prices. Pulled pork, BBQ ribs, fish and burgers are great. Onion appetizer is terrific and serves 4 or so. Year in and year out, this place has good food at better prices than most. Always busy and reason is evident. Those that rate it one or two must really be picky eaters and not satisfied with anything. Fun atmosphere and good place to take visitors.

Been eating here years. Consistently a notch above a typical Asian eatery. I say Asian because the menu is all over the place: Thai, Chinese, Japanese. Fried rice was off and the Mongolian beef was heavy on the oyster sauce but the curry was fine. Service and atmosphere are fantastic with views of the bay and all the veggies were fresh. Kinda place that uses canned sauce but garnishes the meal with fresh ingredients. As always, tastes better after a swim or a surf out by the pier.
Nice décor, good service. Sadly the food here is pretty ick. I tried the sampler of 3 sweet chicken dishes. Sweet and sour, honey, and sesame. All came in very bland, goopy sauces. I could deal with the texture if the flavor was good but overall those were terrible, as was the awful fried rice. The yellow rice was dry, stuck together, and tasted like nothing. I have never had bad fried rice, or sweet and sour chicken for that matter so the standards are not high. There is no way anyone tasted that rice and thought it was good. No excuse to put out such poor quality food. There is no pride in the food, just based on that rice alone. It came out 2 minutes after our appetizer, very soon after we ordered. My grandma normally likes the spring rolls here but did not this time. She did not love her stir fry also and thought maybe there is a new cook. The hot and sour soup was ok I guess. This is definitely not the kind of fresh flavor we expected based on how they market themselves. That was the worst Chinese entrée I have ever had anywhere, so that is pretty bad. Never again.
Best sushi in Northern Michigan plus a view. A pleasant surprise and a hidden gem. Very good service, but plan on wait at peak times.

I ate at Cru last night for the third time and continue to be impressed. Everything my family and I have tried has been outstanding. The menu is small but eclectic. The short rib is probably the best thing I've tried. The meat is fork tender with excellent flavor. Last night I had the walleye, which was served as a sort of stew with clams, chorizo sausage, beans, spinach, and a tomato sauce. Fantastic. There is a nice list of meats and cheeses to choose from to do a charcuterie board as an appetizer. There are a lot of options for wines by the glass, and they've added some Leelanau County wines this year as an option. They have several options for wine flights, which are a pretty good deal. There are also several Michigan beers available, as well as a diverse cocktail menu. The decor is very clean and modern -- lots of gray and white. They added sound dampening panels to the ceiling at some point, which helps tremendously. Our first dinner last year was like eating in an echo chamber. Despite the good food and slightly upscale atmosphere, the dress code is definitely casual. There are plenty of people eating in their shorts and t-shirts, although one could also dress up a bit and not be out of place. This is definitely a spot in Frankfort worth checking out.
We were on vacation and decided to get some drinks and apps at Cru. It is a darling place with a lot of wine to choose from. The front bar is fun and open, but with no windows in the back it can feel a bit closed in. We ordered a local Michigan Pinot noir, and at $52 a bottle was good, but a little pricy for a Michigan wine. We ordered two flatbreads, one of which never came out, and it did seem to take a while for the apps to arrive. But the apps we did get were quite tasty. I would have liked to have dinner there. The menu looked very good. I liked all the wines they had out front, all of which were sold at much better prices than those on the menu. We took home the same Michigan Pinot noir we drank at the table for $52 for a mere $23. I would like to try this place again for dinner.
Cru Cellars has a nice wine selection for sale right when you walk in, and discounts 10% if you eat a meal there. However, we were not impressed with the dinner we had. We were sat at a table with a very low hanging light which kept hitting my date's head during dinner. Very strange setup. The fig and prosciutto flatbread was delicious, so we had high hopes for our entrées. My date got the 36-hour brined chicken and I got the salmon with corn and jalapeño. The chicken and polenta was very, very bland. Very unremarkable. The salmon was cooked nicely, but the corn was clearly canned corn, and I could not find a trace of jalapeño anywhere on the plate. The corn "discs" were dry and underseasoned. We would come back but would probably sit at the bar where we could sip on a bottle from the rack with some appetizers.

Still can't tell you how good the bagels are. Today we are here for lunch. The new space is bigger then the last. Great local photography. Friendly staff. The owner remembers my family each year we come in, can't bel eat that.
The kids make the sandwiches with their bare hands, so that's a little unnerving when you stop to think about it. The sanwiches are decent, not bad, not great, but decent. The prices are very reasonable. But GOD DAMN is it hot in there during the summer. There's no AC and the fans are too slow to be effective. It's unbearable to eat in. Overall, I'd say only go as a last resort, AKA if The Crescent Bakery has a line out the door.
(Disclaimer - this review is from a visit back on 7/31/13) Stopped in for a bagel and some coffee on my way out of town and was very happy--chewy bagels and veggie cream cheese with actual veggies! I'll have to try a sandwich the next time I'm in town--the menu looked great!

Extremely slow service. There were six of us for breakfast and the place was very busy. We sat down at around 10:30am and didn't get our food until close to noon. It seems like the kitchen can't keep up on busy days. We watched another table of 6 or 7 leave and cancel their order because they were going to be late for their tee time.
This restaurant looked promising for brunch on our way back south from a week long vacation up north. We arrived around 11am and it was packed which wasn't surprising on a nice Sunday morning. We talked to the host who said it would be around a 20 minute wait for a table and nicely warned us that it would be around 45 minute wait for for food when we ordered. We weren't in a rush so we put our names down. It was more like a 30 minute wait for a table but completely understandable for a busy Sunday. No worries. The place is small, cutely decorated with a screened in patio too. A large wedding party had take over the patio so we were seated inside. Our server Matt was friendly, enthusiastic, and on top of it even though they were slammed. They have a full bar along with specialty coffees, lattes, espressos and more so it was hard to choose. We went with Bloody Mary's - which Matt mixed up himself since they were so busy - and they were great. We put our order in for the Eggs Benedict, veggie omelet, Cuban sandwich, and pulled pork sandwich right away so we could get the show on the road. We ended up waiting about an hour for our food to arrive even though the place was starting to clear out at that point. I'm pretty sure that our order was stuck behind the huge wedding party's order and their tiny kitchen wasn't able to keep up. Matt kept our waters filled and checked in with us a few times offering his apologies for it taking so long. All of us have worked in restaurants so we knew that's how it went sometimes and wasn't his fault. We saw other servers doing the same to their tables. The food finally came and it was delicious - really, really good! We left shortly after 1pm. If it hadn't taken an hour, I would give this place 5 stars. Just don't visit when they are slammed and I'm sure you'll have an excellent experience. We'd try it again!
We came in on a busy Saturday with 20 people (sent friends ahead to reserve). Unlike other places, the staff here didn't roll their eyes at our group, but greeted us with smiles and was very accommodating about putting tables together. Matt was our server and did a great job. The beignets, turkey club (with really good smoked turkey breast and bacon), Bloody Marys and mimosas were all excellent!

We stopped in for lunch and a drink around 1:00 P.M. We tried to take advantage of the outdoor dining area but the plastic roof and inoperative ceiling fans made it feel like a greenhouse. We ended up inside which accommodated our group of 10 nicely. Beer selection is limited. We had a couple of Oberon's and 2 pitchers of Bud Light. They didn't have beer glasses for the pitchers. We got highball glasses instead. For lunch we had quesadillas and pizza. The quesadillas weren't memorable; small and lacked ingredients. And they don't come with guacamole. The pizza on the other hand was outstanding and is the only reason this place gets three stars. It makes this place worth the stop.
This place was terrible they had bad food really bad I got this thing it was like I prime rib on a roll it was really bad it was disgusting I can't believe I could even take more than a few bites of it De Soto was wasn't all mixed in the seltzer in the syrup and we're not in the proper ratio did it overall taste very salty the service was actually fairly speedy but I think that's because many of the items were frozen to the french fries which were terrible and I that's all I have to say thanks for listening.
Two stars because of the back patio and the chicken fingers. The negative three stars for the idiotic waitstaff who neither knew anything about the menu nor took any sort of pride in the task at hand and should all be fired. To add insult to injury, after trying to track her down so we could pay she gave us our credit card receipt without a pen. Now I realize that seems miniscule, however it was the perfect cap to the space cadet style approach to her job. Ditch the focus on shitty tattoos and throwback sneakers and take some pride in your job or find something more suitable like starring at the beach.
