I love Ferndale but do not love Anita's. I went with my brother one afternoon and it was not very busy. I was surprised at how slow the service was! The food was bad, not very flavorful, and the pita was dry and rubbery. I wanted to love this place but it was just plain bad. Nice decor though, but with so few people in it, it looked stark and cold. I do not know why the service was so slow with no one else there. Perhaps they were on the patio and the waitress was new? A lot of people love it so this must have been an off day. I'll try it again and get back to you.

Everything you order here will be amazing, fresh and well prepared. If this is your first time here, I suggest getting a combo platter and sampling everything. Their lamb and kaftas are tender and excellently done. They have a great vegetarian platter as well :)

I love the food. There's so many ME food places in Detroit and Anita's in Troy was some of the best. The Ferndale location continues the tradition. Very fresh, perfectly seasoned, healthy meals. I have one gripe. The pita in the plastic bag. Come on! Give us fresh bread and skip the stupid bags. Fantastic lentil soup, perfect chicken shwarma, fresh hummous..... everything perfect but the waiter could have been attentive. Better waiter and fresh bread.....five stars!

We recently went back to see if things have changed and it seems that they are back to their fresh Delicious selves again. Absolutely enjoyed our visit and the food is fresh and very very tasty glad they are back on track. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

I enjoy Middle Eastern food but for some reason am rarely in the mood for it. On one such occasion recently I decided we'd try Anita's, an upscale Lebanese restaurant on Woodward in Ferndale. The place is bright and airy, with a lovely-looking patio (it was full when we went). The food was fantastic. We started with the mujadra, and it was my favorite thing. Lentils, rice, caramelized onions, and yogurt. Earthy, rich from the caramelization, crispy in places, refreshing with yogurt. It was awesome; I could see myself eating that every day. We were being indecisive about main courses, so we decided to go with the mixed mezza and try a bit of everything. There were two of us and the menu says for 2-4 people. We were absolutely stuffed and took a lot home--I'd recommend it for parties closer to 4 people, but the leftovers were great too. We got the salads first--grape leaves, hummus, falafel, tabbouleh, fattoush, pickled veggies, and pita. We also opted for a side of garlic paste, a must-have. All of this was delicious, very fresh and vibrant. So good that my fiance, who isn't generally a fan of tabbouleh, had several helpings of that alone. Then came the meat (we were already full by this point). Shish kafta, shish tawook, chicken and beef schwarma, on a bed of pilaf. My favorite was the beef schwarma, but they were all delectable. The whole meal had us repeating over and over "delicious," "amazing," and "ohmygawd this is so good." Schwarma + fattoush + garlic paste + pita = heaven. Truly one of the best meals I've had in a long time, this is a new favorite.

Hmm. Where to Start. Let start with the good: * Outside seating * Staff Responsive and courteous * Larger portions for a restaurant, but on par with the other Lebanese restaurants I've been at. * Decent wine selection So today was my 2nd Anita's kitchen experience, and probably my last. I think it's appalling that this restaurant has 4 stars at this time; considering another restaurant I went to in Miami was 10 times better and has a lower rating. Last year we had the lamb chops. Lamb chops are supposed to be tender and moist. I remember the chops from here as dry, and not well seasoned. So in light of that fact, I wanted to keep it simple this year with just a shish tawook sandwich. Hey 6 bucks beats 20+ for lamb chops. Besides, I figured how could this get screwed up? Well I've had much better pita roll up sandwiches from a gas station! No, I'm not kidding. It's the Sunoco gas station at 12 and coolidge. Anyway, on the sandwich: * Kabobs were cut TOO large. This made eating the sandwich a difficult task with the kabobs sliding around. This eventually led to my sandwich crumbling apart. * No garlic sauce in the sandwich. It had a thin layer of hummus. * Not enough, if any, vegetables in the sandwich * No pickles in the sandwich!? * It came out kinda of greasy/oily * Not enough TLC...you could tell it was rushed out. * The sandwich was hot, but more luke warm really. The Lebanese Salad: (I really thought I was playing safe with this selection) * The salad wasn't cut right. It was frustrating to constantly have the lettuce splash my cheek. (This is even with fork and knife) * Where is the seasoning? There was hardly any in this salad. * Dressing? Not enough! Plus really watery. Other notes: * This is probably one of the more expensive lebanese restaurants I've been to. Real napkins would be nice. What made matters worse is the fact the paper napkins they provided were cheap. (Like big boys) * Turkish coffee? Seriously, I've had darker richer coffee at dunkin donuts. They are not preparing it right. It should be dark and rich. It should not come out in autumn colors...brown, dark orange. VERY very watery. * This is Ferndale, so parking automatically sucks. * Get the liquor license, I'd like a better selection of beer also. Why 1 star? Look, the environment here is nice. Wait staff nice. But it's probably the worst tasting and most expensive Lebanese restaurant I've been to in Michigan. I'm staggered at the ratings here. I'm sorry to add insult to injury, but I believe this to be a relativity issue. Meaning that there are no GOOD Lebanese restaurants nearby, and the people in the area are used to vegan diets or Taco bell.

an awesome place for gluten free lovers to unite- they have a great variety of fresh and super tasty options if you have celiac or follow a paleo diet. if you are only gluten free and are open to including grains, the tomato kibbeh is absolutely delicious with quinoa as a substitute for the cracked wheat. the eggplant salad is like crack to me- i'm hopelessly addicted!

What I like about this place is what a lot of other people don't like about it. It's a modern, trendy place. I think it's great because most Middle Eastern restaurants feel like fast food joints. Get in and get out. Anita's is a "going out to dinner" place where you have good ambiance and can linger. There are plenty of "authentic, hole in the wall" Middle Eastern places you can go, but how many classy, good-for-a-date-like places are there? It's nice to have options. I've had the lemon lentil soup, pretty good. Pretty, pretty, pretty good. Actually, I was just having a Larry David moment for a second there. The soup was okay. They aren't joking about the lemon. I've tried the gyro and the grape leaves pita. Well-seasoned lamb on both counts! The hummus is the star of Anita's, though. They spell it "hommus," so maybe I should spell it that way, too. The hommus is airy and light with the right lemon to garlic ratio. It's the kind of hommus that makes you vow never to eat store-bought again. If I lived in the area, Anita's would definitely be in my rotation.

I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about with this place. It's definitely good... but by no means is it the best middle eastern food in the area. I've never been blown away by anything- it's generally just okay. I'd rather go to Al Oumara in West Bloomfield, but that's just me.

Had an absolutely great dinner here to celebrate a friend's birthday last weekend. In an area heavy with Mid-Eastern restaurants, this one was wonderful. A few minute wait, not bad for a Saturday night in Ferndale, at a restaurant that does not take reservations. The kibbe niyeh was well prepared, seasoned right, not slimy (as it sometimes is at cheaper places) and fried up great the next morning with scrambled eggs. Our entrees -- spinach pie and chicken shrawma -- were excellent, well seasoned and big. Each was another meal of leftovers. The atmosphere was nice (just a wee bit dark), the service great, the server pleasant, efficient, and knowledgeable about the wine list, and the prices were reasonable -- $55 included three drinks and a 20% tip. A near perfect experience, and a worthwhile place to which to return.

Anita's is awesome! Don't even think about going to another Lebanese restaurant, because it doesn't get better than Anita's in terms of food and price. Every time we have someone visiting from out of town, we take them to Anita's. It's also one of the best places in town for take-out. My favorites include: the chicken schwarma, grape leaves, and falafel.

Whether you're looking for something fast and healthy to grab on a weeknight or a place to have a cozy but not-too-over-the-top date night, Anitas is IT. This place couldn't get anymore adorable. It oozes ambiance and has delightful outdoor seating with twinkling lights in the summer. The beer and wine list is more than adequate. I have tried many menu items and I have yet to be disappointed. The pita sandwiches are all delicious, not to mention cheap at around $5. All of the soups are great. The chicken feta fatoush is outta this world. My favorite special is the eggplant lasagna- in true Anita's fashion, the flavors are traditional, and yet it's like nothing I have ever tasted! I always leave this place with a feeling of satisfaction and a bag full of leftovers for lunch tomorrow. You say Anitas, I say YUM!

BEST Middle Eastern food EVER! Let me start with the Lamb kabob sandwich. From past experience with middle eastern places, I didn't expect them to cook it to the requested medium rare (or even medium for that matter)--but it was PERFECT! To be honest, I'm not even sure how they cooked it so well. On top of that, the hummus is incredible--I think it comes with a lot of the dinners, but order the hummus app too, you will not regret it. We also shared some falafel and a fattoush salad. Here's some advice: My girlfriend and I used to go to Middle Eastern places and walk out hunched over with stomach aches. Between the pita bread and hummus, a full dinner with rice and salad (and more hummus), it is a TON of food--food that is so good it's kinda hard to stop eating. If you come to Anita's, split a couple of apps and order the sandwiches--perfect amount of food and way cheaper. Plus, you get to sample a wider variety of food. We walked out satisfied for $28 (including an adult beverage each)!

Lemon. Lentil. Soup. Bowl. This is easily the best lentil soup I've had, EVER. We had the cucumber salad as an appetizer. It was meh. Nice and garlicky but nothing too creative. I had the Falafel Sandwich which was really yummy. I got my falafel fried, of course. But if you're a total weirdo they can bake it for you instead. One of my girlfriends asked for a side of garlic sauce to eat with the pitas. It was a garlic lovers dream. The service was good, they were suuuuper slammed on a Saturday evening, but they had the AC set to a comfy temperature, we got easy refills on our mint iced tea and waters. Looking forward to returning and splitting some huge vegetarian plates with my homies. BIKES::: There's a few parking posts to lock up to.

You can't come from the Pita Cafe or from the Falafel King and then eat at Anita's. They are worlds apart. How? Flavor. Anita's is a modernized version of Lebanese / Middle Eastern food. That's its niche. It helps that the inside matches this theme, it's a cozy and hip joint where the wait staff is happy. This place just oozes cool. I just wish the food was up to par with how this place looks. If I were a vegetarian, I would be insulted at the blandness of their vegetarian food. I can't judge their meat dishes, because everything I've had from here was oddly... vegetarian. The fatoush salad was "modernized" by having bell peppers in it (ick). The eggplant dishes are not smooth like how you would imagine some awesome garlic babaganoush to be -- no, it's sad limp saltless eggplant chunks. The eggplant salad had a biting strong garlic taste -- on top of which had tons of raw onions -- kiss me darling! Kiss me! The eggplant mint feta pita was tasty, but once again... where's the salt? The flavor? The WOW. There's just no "pop" to Anita's food, but hey, if you want to be seen or impress a date with your ethnic culinary prowess -- this is the place for you. Anita -- use some salt and paprika, I beg you.

Good selection of beer. Best middle eastern food I've had in metro Detroit. Awesome atmosphere both inside and outside. Lunch meal prices are a great deal. Chicken shawarma is delicious!

Anita's is a favorite with my group of friends when we just want to catch up over a good meal. The food is consistently great and the atmosphere is casual. We love sitting in the L shaped booth in the corner. The outdoor seating all year round is another plus. So the food.... Red pepper hummus....delicious. I've tried and I've tried to replicate this at home and just can't. The shish tawook is also a solid choice. What we usually do is order the vegetarian mezza and an order or two of the chicken kabobs and split between 6 girls. It's plenty of food, you get a little taste of a lot of different things and it's very, very reasonable. The beer selction is above average, I'm an IPA drinker and am constantly amazed at how many establishments don't carry a good, or any IPA. So when one does, it does not go unnoticed. Service is always friendly and knows when to come and go from the table. The perfect balance of leaving you alone while still remaining attentive.

Stellar. First time getting take out, the kefta was very tasty and the tabbouli is a winner. $5 for a half-order? I'll be back often and grab some extra tabbouli to for the fridge.

Delicious, fresh, authentic and reasonably priced-what more could you want? Large portions? An awesome setting with a great patio? They've got that, too! The menu is extensive and offers many traditional items, but also shakes things up with some less traditional options (like Mediterranean "pizzas"). The entrees are very reasonably priced (around $12-15) and include soup, tabbouli, rice pilaf and hummus. The lemon lentil soup is incredible & has so much fresh flavor (and my Grandma Lilly always used to say "lentils make you beautiful" so I eat lots)! The chicken schwarma, which is all white meat, is delicious and so is the falafel and beef schwarma. Make sure to ask for a side of the garlic sauce-it's especially creamy. Finish off the meal with a piece of honey-soaked (and very inexpensive) baklava and hang out on the patio when the weather is warm!

Super disappointing if you have been to other middle eastern restaurants in the Dearborn area. I was shocked they charge extra for pickled turnips (normally are free at other places!). The food was way over salty (and if you know me, this is nearly impossible!). The bread was not the hot from the oven, yummy pita bread I have come to love at other places. It was simply warm pita served in a plastic bag. Service was great. But I will not return just for great service, food and prices need to be up there too and sadly, Anita's was not.

Being that I'm vegetarian, this has to be one of my favorite places to eat. There are so many options, and this is one of the many reasons I love Middle Eastern cuisine to begin with. The lemon lentil soup is one of my favorite dishes. I love the outdoor seating area. The waitstaff has always been great. It's super affordable. There's really not much to complain about here. The only reason it's not 5 stars for me is because it's not as authentic as some other middle eastern restaurants that I also enjoy. It's a bit more Americanized.. which is fine. It's still delicious and I will keep coming back!

It is starting to get pretty cold outside which means we are approaching the perfect time to enjoy Anita's patio! It is the perfectly toasty, enclosed, nicely lit spot to enjoy a glass of wine and an appetizing dish while snow falls outside. Personally, for me this is a three star restaurant due to some less than desirable experiences here but my man plays a big role in the extra star because he love loves their food especially the Super Falafil pita sandwich. I haven't yet found the dish I can say the same for. I love salt but the beef shawarma and its accompaniments were too heavy on it for me. I don't consider myself picky but burnt onions on take-out mujadra are kind of disappointing to see when you get home. I understand serving isn't easy but do you really need to add a table onto mine and set it up while I am eating? Eh, enough with the bad and lets get into why you should check this place out despite my protests! Like I have already stated my fellow is a happy camper when it comes to dining here. There are a lot of vegetarian options as with most Lebanese spots but Anita's does an amazing job on their soups and a few other staples like the tabbouleh (heavy on the parsley as it should be!) Also the atmosphere is lively especially since it is normally full of patrons being assisted by a lovely staff. And! Their online ordering works! I know this may not seem like a big deal but a ton of places that use smaller online ordering providers will often run into a lot of problems which equates to your food not being made, or being over/under charged, or getting a quoted time that is way off base. Not here though! I can safely say that Anita's has a system that works and food that is ready when they say it will be. Overall Anita's is worth getting to know! EDIT I realize that mujadra is supposed to have caramelized onions borderline crispy (some probably burnt) but after a fellow Yelper reached out to me upon reading my review I recognized that I may need to elaborate on this. These onions were nearly ash, their flavor had a distinctive charred taste and little to no onion flavor remained. It really overpowered the entire dish and having been to many Middle Eastern restaurants I have never run into this. The rest of the dish was fine, very good, but not the same without those crispy caramelized onions!

I had a nice dinner w/ family at Anita's. for an appetizer we had babaganoush and t was very tasty and the small was fairly large. The large must be huge. Got Lamb chops and they were very good as was the pilaf, tabuli and especially the hummus and salad. Think like Anita's hommous better than any place else. Our lemonade's were great. Both my dining partners liked their meals as well. The server was very attentive and cheerful. Don't think it's the best Middle Eastern food n the area but or a general restaurant it's very good. Should mention the salad too, as It was outstanding love the dressing and fresh ingredients.

I had heard good things about Anita's and now having been I can say it is a definite win. I love their falafal and LOVE that you have a choice between fried and baked. The baked taste the same to me, so I always go with that option. They have good salads that always taste fresh and have their own unique spin on them. I have meat eater friends who enjoy their shawarma, lamb, and other meat options. When I do not feel like driving to Dearborn to my favorite Middle Eastern places, Anita's works out just fine. My only complaint is that they charge you for extra pita bread. I guess I could just eat my hummus with a spoon :-).

Food: Great! Their recipies are awesome and tasty!Everything is just fresh, comes out hot (or cold) and the portions are perfect. The menu has all the standards: shawarma, kafta, tabulleh, hummus, falafel. What I love are the specials, a middle eastern dish or 5 that you have heard of but can't get everyday or something you never heard of that's awesome! Their lunch specials are very reasonable, and you get ALOT of food for under $10. Atmosphere: Love it! The place is furnished with comfortable tables, wicker chairs, bar tables/stools, a fantastic counter and a WONDERFUL covered outdoor space. In the spring/summer- it's a must sit out! It's usually very busy, and the outdoor space can get a little loud. Be prepared for a wait on weekends and on nice summer/spring evenings. Service: Friendly, fast and the staff here makes sure you're happy. If you're not sure what to order, the waitstaff is usually well versed on the menu and specials and can always make a fantastic suggestion if you're torn or don't know what something is. Last time I went i asked the server for 5 different things a t5 different times during my meal, and she didn't complain or make me feel as if I was bugging her. Price: Not bad. The price for the quality, freshness and exotic-ness of the dishes is pretty good. Not too expensive, and with the salad and sandwich options, you can get out of there not spending too much money. Anita's Kitchen is a trendy, comfortable, easy-to-get-to place with above average + middle-eastern food. Go there for lunch to try it, go to dinner with friends or family, for a great evening. TIP: Get a fresh squeezed juice

OH SNAP! Anita's Kitchen in Ferndale is hands down one of the best places to eat for vegetarians and vegans. The menu offers up a variety of dishes for the meat lovers, but endless selection for those not interested in meaty dishes. As a vegetarian for 17 years and now a vegan it's nice to be able to eat somewhere multiple times and not get burnt out on the mere choices they offer. Not at Anita's though. Located on Woodward just off of 9 mile, this Middle Eastern eatery offers up fresh and delicious food in a comfy atmosphere. The Red Pepper hummus is a must. Smooth and creamy with the perfect balance of smokiness and acidity. And my number one addiction, the eggplant salad. Parsley, olive oil, eggplant, and tomatoes blended together to make something not too far away from perfection. the flavors are clean and aromatic. the falafel is tasty, but nothing out of the ordinary, get it fried and you'll be served up a yummy, crisp to perfection treat. The menu also boasts a fair selection of salads and soup. Try the black bean, a nice smokey flavor with a bit of a bite. The portions are hefty here and I find it impossible to see anyone going home hungry or without leftovers. The waitstaff is incredibly knowledgeable about their menu which is great and always willing to giving a sample of dressing or soups if you're leery. In addition, Anita's offers up a satisfying beer and wine list, including a selection of Michigan beers and organic wines.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in all of Metro-Detroit! Anita's serves Lebanese cuisine that is fresh, full of flavor and reasonably priced. Food at many Lebanese restaurants seem to taste like it has been reheated and that the vegetables are not fresh. Anita's has very friendly service. The atmosphere is very trendy, but very welcoming in the restaurant. Anita's offers both indoor and outdoor seating in the warmer months. I often order the Mixed Mezza as take out as it offers a nice variety of food and serves about 3-5 people. I am also a huge fan of the vegetarian grape leaves, the shwarma (beef or chicken) and lemon lentil soup. Last, but certainly not least, the hummus is out of this world!

I used to frequent the "old" Anita's in Troy and have been to the Anita's in Ferndale multiple times as well. There are a lot of reviews, so I just wanted to add two things: 1) One thing I really like about Anita's (that the old Anita's didn't have) are the Mixed Mezzas that are available. I grew up in a very small town that had basically no ethnic diversity (think corn fields and lots of Amish neighbors). Needless to say getting my parents to try new things when they come to visit can be challenging. It is easy to be intimidated by ethnic food when you only get one choice and have no idea what anything is, which is why the Mixed Mezza is such a good choice. It allowed my parents to try different options and it was a great success. They walked away with an idea of what they did and didn't like so ordering next time they will be more comfortable. If you are new to Mediterranean food this could be a great option for you. 2) The new Anita's is more chic than the old coney-style diner in Troy and definitely makes a better impression. Also, it does open it up to a wider clientele, for example it did make my parents more comfortable in the environment. However, I feel that its uber-trendiness makes it feel less authentic and a bit more cookie-cutter. I always like a restaurant that is true to its cultural food roots, so I personally see it as a detriment.

Very average. The' pita' is the chewy packaged crap you buy at any market. Sorry, I'm not wasting my calories. The hummus is way too lemony. Borderline sour. Not impressed. Lamb kebobs were so freaking tough, not one piece was edible. Straight into the trash. That was our carry-out experience. I called to convey my disappointment and they offered a credit to use next time. 1.5 stars Dine-in gets 2.5 stars overall. Atmosphere is nice but service can be very slow. I really enjoy their falafel, either baked or fried. Salads are good and smoothies are decent. Soups are so-so. Tee shirts are cute. People love it and it's a good fit for Ferndale, unfortunately after numerous visits, I won't be back.

Anita's is great eating in the restaurant or carrying out. This is a great place to go with friends, family, colleagues, whatever, the vibe is always lively and the staff is lovely. If you do plan to eat in be prepared to wait on the weekends, the line will be long and with good reason. The Kibbe is great, raw or fried, meat or vegetarian. Just saying you should try it. Avoid the Tomato Florentine soup, it tastes like spaghetti sauce, other then that I have no complaints.

Let me start by saying, I'm lebanese and my mom makes better grape leaves than yours. So therefore, it's hard to impress me. It's hard for me to fall in love with a lebanese restaurant, and when I found Anita's, I fell. When I lived in Royal Oak, Anita's Kitchen was a once a week carry out affair. Our order? Roasted Red Pepper hummus Garlic Labneh Appetizer Lemon Lentil Soup Lamb and beans/peas (It's a special, if they have it get it) Chicken Feta Fattoush (no green peppers, no pita) That's it. That is what my heart desires at LEAST once a week. It's a great meal, and there is always some left for tomorrow. A few tips? Put a little of that Garlic Labneh in the lemon lentil soup. Then try a little in that Lamb and Beans, and maybe just a little more in the chicken feta fattoush. Basically, the Garlic Labneh is fabulous and you will find me eating it with a spoon. If you have to wait at the bar for your take out, they have Founder's Pale Ale on tap. It's fabulous after a long day at work. And if you don't like the meal I listed above, try getting the Baked Kibbe or the Chicken Ghallaba (another special). And don't forget to mix the roasted red pepper hummus with the garlic labneh. And if your dining in, a cheap bottle of lebanese wine is definitely in order. I'm hungry. It's incredible.

We went there on a Friday night fairly early (6 pm) so we did not have any wait. Parking was not a major issue but I still had to go around the block to find a space. Four of us had different dishes we all liked. I got the lamb shanks: portion was generous, meat was tender but the potato that came with it needed more cooking. Sauce was not great and there was a load of it. We were seated outside and the the patio seats could have used a cushion. Prices were very competitive. Wine list was complete. Overall, Anita's kitchen is a good local place.

The best restaurant in Ferndale. Try the Rocket Fuel which is carrot, beet and apple juice. The sandwiches are amazing and the prices are perfect. Lovely staff. Georgeous space. You will love this place. The food is always spectacular.

I've been here a few times on dates and with friends, for lunch and for dinner and I always really enjoy myself. I like the atmosphere because it is trendy, but not so much so that I don't feel comfortable coming in to a casual lunch. Each time I have been in the waitstaff has been very friendly and attentive without hovering. They were also able to make recommendations, which I found helpful. The food is very good and probably my favorite thing to do is get one of the combination platters and share it with one or more people. I have also had some of their desserts which they make from scratch, delicious. Compared to some other restaurants with similar menus they are a bit pricey, but the difference isn't too bad.

I'm so glad to see a business thriving in this location. It had turned over occupants a few times in the years that I have lived in Ferndale. Before Anita's it always felt like an odd space, once Anita's moved it the it just feels right, the space suddenly made perfect sense. I love their patio dining. It makes me feel like I'm on a little mini vacation. The dining room inside always seems slightly cramped to me, which makes me a little uncomfortable, I definitely prefer the patio. Even if there is a little rain in the forecast or a slight chill in the air, don't worry, the patio is fully covered and they have some heaters out there. I have never been disappointed in their food. Here are a few of the items that I have sampled on one of my many visits and how I would rate them... -Chicken Shawarma Dinner 5 stars -Crushed Lentil Soup 5 stars -Lemon Lentil Soup 3 stars -Fried Falafil Appetizer 5 stars (would like to take home a gallon jug of the tahini that came with this!) -Shish Kafta Pita Sandwich 5 stars -Lamb Chop Dinner 4 stars -Hummus 4 stars -Tabbouleh 5 stars (mmmm so fresh and lemony) -Plain Pitas (served for dipping and scooping) 3 stars I'm also happy to see some Michigan craft beers on draft, including selections from Right Brian Brewery and Founders. Anita's is also one of my favorite carry out locations. Yes, I do have their phone number saved in my cell phone! You can also place your carry out order on-line.

Went here for mother's day with my mom and sister. I had never been to their new location. It looks so nice! Much fancier than the old location. I had a vegetarian plate, a turkish coffee, and tried some of the hummous with lamb. The hummous was fantastic! It is sometimes hard to find a good, tasty, and not too dry hummous but this was spot on. Great! The bread was a standard quartered pita, which always makes me sad. Good, but not wonderful. The baba was a little too garlicky, but it wasn't bad. Nothing to order as a stand alone for me. The hummous was though. You can get your falafel fried or baked, which is a welcome option. I had the baked. They were moist and crispy. Nice. The coffee . . . I was told I could get sweet, not sweet or in between. I got in between. It was incredibly sweet! It did cut the bitterness, but it was crazily sweetened. I don't know what sweet would be. The server was not wonderful. She didn't appear busy but wasn't exactly present. She appeared to deliver the food and then acted slightly awkward about the water. It could have been her first day . . . Anyway, the place was an improvement on their old location. Good hummous, ok everything else.

I had heard of Anita's Kitchen for years before finally going. I love Lebanese food, but I'm kind of picky about it and didn't know what to expect from a restaurant that didn't have the words shish, pita or kebob in the name. This place blew me away! I had the shish tawook entree, which for $12 also came with rice pilaf, hummus, tabouleh, and an amazing salad. Every bite was absolutely delicious. My only disappointment was that I was too full to finish. I have no doubt that this place will earn a 5-star rating from me after a couple more visits.

Wow! What a remarkable dining experience. I am a huge hummus fan, and Anita's won me over heart and soul. I would recommend this place to anyone!

After having passed this place every single day we decided to give it a try. It is right down the street from our house, and we haven't tried any of the Middle Eastern or Mediterranean food since moving out here. So why go into Royal Oak when we have a place right here? I was somewhat surprised by the wait.. it was a Tuesday night, but I suppose it is a small place. We managed to find a seat at the bar and started on drinks. There were only 2 tables ahead of us, and I was surprised how quickly they were able to turn the tables over. We only had to wait like 15 mins. They have absolutely no place for people to stand when there is a wait, so I'm glad we could squeeze in at the bar. I found a Riesling I loved, and my boyfriend was happy to find a good IPA in bottle. It looks as though they have a pretty good beer and wine list! We started with hummus, which was really good, although I prefer for it to be a little more garlicky. Ahh well. The pitas are cut and placed in baggies in a bread basket, and I kind of missed the kind that Palm Palace has (warm puffed up little pita pillows with sesame seeds) All entrees come with soup, hummus, tabbouleh and rice. The black bean soup is SO good.. almost like a vegetarian chili.. the spices were right on. My boyfriend had the chicken schwarma, and his chicken was really moist and seasoned nicely. I had the grape leaves, which I probably shouldn't have. I always forget how lemony they are, and I just didn't care for them. But they have a decent sized menu, so I'm sure I will have better luck next time. I finished off dinner with pistachio chocolate chip cake. It was really, really good! Little bit small (hey, I LOVE dessert..) but it was only like $2.50, so it's a steal. They had a few other options, and I believe most are either made in-house or brought in from Pinwheel Bakery. Service was friendly and fast. And I loved the decor/ambiance. Hip, but not too cool where you feel out of place.. just right. And they play a good XM Station.. I think it's called "Chill radio". All in all, I'm actually looking forward to going back. Good drinks, good food, good service. Glad we finally tried it!

Anita's is one of my favorite restaurants in Metro Detroit. I've never been disappointed. I always recommend Anita's to anyone who is new to the area and to the cuisine.

Anitas is one of our favorite restaurants. My vegetarian daughters (how DID that ever happen) love the place for the vegetarian grape leaves and the spinach pie, but meat lovers like me will love the kebabs (either beef or chicken) and the lamb chops - which are remarkable. However, the true piece de restance is the ghallaba. It's not on the menu officially, but it's a fairly frequent daily special. You can get chicken ghallaba, beef ghallaba, or vegetable ghallaba and any one if them is great. BUT, order it "spicy" and you'll think you've died and gone to heaven. This is truly one if the best middle- eastern restaurants in metro Detroit. Moderate prices, great food ... no wonder it's always mobbed ... Check it out!

I've never left Anita's Kitchen with anything but a smile on my face. Coming from California, I would have never guessed that there was such a diverse blend of middle-eastern cultures in Southeast Michigan. When I left LA, all I knew was kebab and Schwarma. I've had the past 2 years to explore the various ends of the spectrum and Anita's Kitchen does it all well. This is my "go to" for a casual dinner out. My fiance and I can enjoy an unassuming atmosphere, great service and delicious food at a reasonable price. The food is prepared to order with the freshest ingredients. Service is attentive but not intrusive, friendly but not fake, and always there to make a recommendation if you can't make up your mind. Sometimes we get entrées, but usually we start with Hummus to share and have pita sandwiches. I've tried most of the meat selections including chicken, lamb, and beef Schwarma, kafta, and kebabs. She swears by the grape leaf and lamb wrap, which i've tried as well. Last night I had the fried falafel sandwich, which is wrapped with lettuce, tomato, and tahini. The falafel was cooked perfectly. Sometimes falafel is so dry, it crumbles apart, but not at Anita's. It was crispy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. I will definitely have it again. If you are interested in alcoholic beverages, they serve Almaza beer from Lebanon. Very similar to a pilsner, with a crisp finish. Worth a taste for sure! One more note, the board said that they are serving locally roasted Chazzano Coffee now too. You go Anita's Kitchen!

Anita's Kitchen is one of the best things about Ferndale. I started going here a few years back and while I still love the food I'd say it's the friendly staff that keeps me coming back. I say that because the last handful of times I ordered from Anita's the food seemed overly salty. Whether it was chicken shawarma, a chopped salad or lamb kabobs I feel as though someone new in the kitchen is being very heavy handed with the salt. That's not to say the food isn't delicious. It is. Also as I said before the staff is extremely kind, helpful and courteous. The decor in Anita's is warm and cozy feeling. They have Oberon on tap in the summer. It's fantastic. I hope that someone from Anita's sees this review and addresses the saltiness. Maybe I'm too sensitive to salt or something, but it wasn't like this about 6 months ago.

I really do like Anita's! Around Ferndale or Royal Oak, the next best place to me is Pita Cafe. The restaurant is a little cramped for my taste, but the patio in the summer is awesome to sit out on. I would highly recommend the roasted red pepper hummus! Typically my meal is always one or two of the chicken shwarma sandwiches with extra pickles and garlic sauce, Outside of the restaurant being a tad small, the only other gripe I have is their prices are a little high in my opinion. There are other places around the area to get good shwarma that are close or equal in quality, but charge a lot less. Overall, a great place to try when you're hankerin' shwarma and hummus!

Excellent ambiance, good food. The service is fine but given that it gets very busy the servers get a bit flustered. My friend had the deboned chicken which is enormous and delicious. My other friend had the lamb shank and I had the shish kafta. The kafta portion was skimpy compared to the other two - just a single small skewer, whereas the deboned chicken was huge (a half chicken), as was lamb shank. All our food was heavily salted - I refer not only to the entrees but also to the tabouleh and hummus. So salty that I drank 2 glasses of water during this meal which is quite unusual for me. I have previously ordered baked falafel which is a mistake unless you're very calorie conscious and really can't eat the fried variety. Overall, I like the food but love the relatively more upscale/fun feel this place has compared to other middle eastern eateries in the area. The prices are fine, service is fine, food is good, ambiance is great and I keep coming back.

Anita's is one of my newest favorite spots in Ferndale. I love Mediterranean food, but this restaurant is far beyond your regular falafil-stand fare. My first time here was a few months ago, when I ordered a pretty standard falafil plate. When it arrived, both the tastiness and the portions (served with sides) far surpassed my expectations. I was with a large group, and everyone was so into their food that we were lulled that nice little satisfied silence at certain points. On the most recent occasion I visited, they were extremely busy, and I have a feeling that the person working the patio felt a little overwhelmed, but the food more than made up for the slight lag in figuring out who was going to be our server. Starting off, the hommus is smooth and creamy. I know folks love La Shish's hommus, but since La Shish is now no more (except for the Ann Arbor location), I will gladly welcome Anita's hommus as a perfect replacement. The salads are tremendous, both in size and in taste. You could share one with 1-2 other people before an entree, or just make the salad itself your meal. The Mediterranean salad has a wonderful mix of sweetness, with sun-dried tomatoes, red peppers, goat cheese and a tangy mustard dressing. They do have raw juices, which I haven't tried yet (next time?), and also offer the option of baked, rather than fried falafil, which I appreciate. Overall, this place had been wonderful so far. A few more good visits, and Anita's will have won my full 5-star endorsement!

Love, love Anita's. I'm vegetarian and lebanese has been a staple of my diet since birth. Great tabouli, lentil soup, and falafel. Some items are a bit greasy for my taste: fattoush, Lebanese salad and mujdara sandwich. They are also a bit pricier than other Lebanese restaurants in the area (pita cafe), but atmosphere is worth it.

Words can not really begin to describe how much I love Anita's! I order their carry out probably once a week. They always gave big portions, its super tasty and I always have left overs! I don't mind the prices because the food is quality! The dine in atmosphere is very nice! The staff was attentive and they had a nice beer list! No complaints!! Happy Camper!! Try the falafel salad with chicken schwarma!

Anita's Kitchen was jumping on a Thursday night (Thursday night! Really?!) when we met friends for dinner. After a short wait, we made our way to our outdoor table under the tent. The atmosphere is very cool, and though we showed up in jeans and beat-up t-shirts, most people looked much nicer. It's really a pressed shirt kind of place, I think. Our waiter was charming, very friendly, wearing a hip, restaurant-issued t-shirt, and greeted us immediately. Upon recommendation I tried the pomegranate/raspberry/blueberry drink, which was lovely. Ben had the Kibi (sp?), described as a lamb meat loaf; I had the grilled lamb sandwich (perfectly cooked, a nice smoky flavor); and our friends had a dish I can't recall the name of. It looked beautiful--grilled vegetables surrounded by a moat of red pepper hummus (or something the color of same). Everyone = pleased. This would be a good place to bring visitors, especially parents. I'm looking forward to trying more dinners here!

I finally had the opportunity to visit Anita's after an evening out with friends. 8pm on a Friday night, there was maybe a 10 minute wait, so not too bad. The waiting area is a little cramped though, with 8 people in the vestibule, but when our group of 5 was seated in a large booth, it was worth the wait. The hummus? Excellent. Lots of lemon and super creamy, just how I like it. I was torn between getting the gyro or chicken shwarma sandwich (my staple at middle eastern restaurants) so I came to a compromise and ordered the grape leaves appetizer with lamb and the chicken shwarma sandwich. The grape leaves? Eh, mediocre. Rather bland, and $6.95 for 4 of them (plus a side of tabouleh wich I don't like), I wouldn't order again. The chicken shwarma sandwich? For $4.95, it was an ample sandwich (I only ate half of it and took the rest home) but was disappointed in the lack of garlic sauce on it (and requested an additional side to take home). No complaints about the service, and although it was busy, it wasn't too noisy, which was nice.

For any vegetarian food lovers, this is a gold mine. The eggplant baba gonoush has been prepared as well as any meat entree ever could be. This place is trendy and unique, down to the black napkins and clover gum. An outstanding appetizer for me is the Joes' "not so buffalo' wings. They state they are prepared in a zip sauce. There is a very flavorful dark brownish-reddish glow to the wings, but you don't have to worry about eating a messy wing. The seasonings which seem to be reflective of the meditteranean influence are spicy, yet tasty and light enough to let the skin heavy yet meaty chicken wing taste come through. The feta cheese dip is terribly good. I contemplated doing something awful with the remainder of the dip,....... like drinking it!!! It is amazing to eat! The app also comes with a gorgeous amount of sliced carrots. I was saved from drinking the dip by simply enjoying the dip on my carrots. Also they have awesome desserts from the Pinwheel Bakery in Ferndale! The carmel apple tart definitely deserves a mention. I killed this tart...it was amazing. This is not just a mention for kicks. I really killed it :)

I knew there had to better middle eastern than my beloved Grape Leaves somewhat nearby. It was my first time at Anitas, and I loved it. I will tell you why. Service: A group of 10 girls at 715 on a Sunday night is usually recipe for a bitchy ass waitress, but ours was friendly, efficient and all of our orders were correct. Hummus and pita: we got enough for the group...best hummus I have ever had at a middle eastern restaurant I have been to. Hands down. Now, the bread...I prefer the fresh baked pita pockets, of course BUT while Anitas serves that generic flat bread I said to a friend, "there is something different about this bread thou" There is. I read on another review they get it from a local bakery as opposed to the pre-packaged manufactured crap you would get at Grape Leaves or Pita Cafe or even, dare I say-Phoenicia. Soup: LOVED the lemon lentil, a large bowl with fresh lentils and veggies-YUM. Best Lentil I have had. At this point, I wasn't starving so I ordered their traditional greek salad and it was one of the best greeks I have ever had. The small was DEF. enough for an entree portion and it was loaded with fresh, crisp lettuce and loaded with olives, beets, peppers, and feta. The homemade dressing is also fantastic. I had a bit of a falafel and they are my favorite anywhere as well. BOOZE: Booze at a middle eastern restaurant is ALWAYS a plus...beer and wine only, but a great selection. With this being a birthday party at the end of the meal 4 AMAZINGLY good keylime-lemonish tarts appeared at the table. Let me tell you, 4 tarts were NOT enough for as great as they were. No one wanted to pig out of them to have enough for the table, but clearly everyone wanted their own...I almost got one to go, but somehow managed restraint. I cannot WAIT to go back here, I would go here ALL the time if it were closer to home, but now I have a damn good reason to travel down Woodward......well done, Anita, well done.

If Middle Eastern food was hard to come by in the Detroit area, this restaurant might have more of a leg up. But with so many great options, you really have to nail it to justify a 4 or 5 star rating. On the plus side: attractive decor, a nice outdoor patio, and beer & wine on the menu. On the minus side: the menu is really spotty. I have had some stuff that was great, like the pizzas (a good value for the size), and other stuff that was so bad we threw it out (we ordered the lemon lentil soup in a carryout order and it tasted like they dumped a whole jar of bottled lemon juice in it). Service can also be pretty spotty when they're busy; it seems like they are understaffed during dinner rushes. I would probably return, but just stick to menu items I've already tried, and not go during a busy time of day. It does have the advantage of being the only sit-down Middle Eastern option in Ferndale, and the patio is a definite bonus in summer months.

I like Anita's, don't get me wrong. The service is excellent, the location and atmosphere are outstanding and it's definitely one of our staples for carry out. Their sandwiches are huge and quite a value for the price (typically about $5) and the standards (falafel, shawarma, hummus) are quite tasty. Here's why I can't give them 4 stars. If I had another choice for middleeastern food near my house, I would almost always go somewhere else. I pretty much only eat at Anita's because it's convenient. I don't love their bread (flat and chewy), although I do love that they get it from a local bakery. I hate their lemon lentil soup (and I rarely hate any food) and I was floored when we got the Laban Cucumber Salad tonight and realized we paid $5.50 for what should have cost about $3 (at most!) and it wasn't even that good. Definitely not bad, but so not worth the money. I've talked to one of the owners before and she's so lovely and sweet and I'm thrilled that they're doing well (it's always hoppin' when I've been in there, although I usually go in at peak hours) but I definitely think there is room for improvement. Great outdoor patio that is protected from the elements during the winter and seems like a great place for a romantic dinner. I like you Anita's, but I'm not in love.

I have visited Anita's three times now and it is one of my favorite local restaurants. All the food I've ordered here has been solid - grape leaves, shish kafta, lemon lentil soup, shawarma, and especially the falafel (I love a good, dark, crunchy outside on my falafel and Anita's delivers). The atmosphere here is always upbeat and fun. Anita's is also a little bit "fancy" and would be a good place to have a date or a celebration dinner. Finally, I haven't ever had anything but excellent service here. Anita's is great.

Great place to go and have a great evening out with friends. I'd recommend getting a platter, an app and a bottle of wine to split - it makes for a good time. I'm not particularly fond of their fatoush, but their fallafel is wonderful!

First trip to Anita's last night with my husband and a friend, who was drawn in by the extensive vegetarian menu. So many people have urged us to try it, but we never seem to quite be in the mood for Middle Eastern food, so it took an out-of-towner for us to discover one of the local favorites! We arrived at after 7:30pm on a Saturday and I was VERY surprised to immediately get a nice table outside. The uncovered patio area is a little further away from Woodward so you get the cool night air without too much road noise. All of the patio is nicely lit with twinkle lights and partially blocked from surrounding businesses by large plants, creating a very pleasant atmosphere. Maybe it was just the food that I happened to select, but everything was so lemony!! Lemon lentil soup, lemony tabbouleh, lemony grape leaves . . . I didn't try the hummus because I'm just not a fan of any hummus, but the rice pilaf was sweet and amazingly delicious. My husband got the chicken shwarma which I thought was a little tough, but he reported that the spices were just perfect and he really liked it. My grape leaves tasted very fresh and handmade, much different than the pre-wrapped kind you can get at deli counters. My friend got a falafil appetizer which she thought was delightful. I must say that the Oberon on tap washed it all down nicely! Service was terrific - helpful and attentive, never hovering but always somehow right there when you wanted something. I'd give the service and atmosphere 5 stars or more! Most of the food was very good; not necessarily something I'd eat every day but well executed nonetheless. Only one bathroom per gender means an almost guaranteed wait if you can't hold it.

Hands down one my favorite local restaurants. Great restaurant, great atmosphere, GREAT FOOD. A great week day dinner place on the fly or a great weekend dinner place out on the patio. The roasted vegetable wrap is to die for. Babba Ghannouge is great. And the schwarma is delicous as well. We've come before with parties and split the platters which always is more than we need. But they have great vegetarian and non vegetarian options to keep everyone happy. Everything is so fresh, light, and authentic. Definitely recommend!

One of my favorite places to eat in ferndale. I love middle eastern food and this place has it all. Decent prices, a great selection and an awesome atmosphere. I cannot say enough about Anita's! I've had a variety of dishes, but one they do exceedingly well in comparison to other local Middle Eastern places is the Lamb Grapeleaves & Hummus sandwich. It's served piping hot. The lamb is so flavorful, well spiced and extremely fresh in flavor. I don't just eat this sandwich, I devour it. Their hummus is done just the way I like it. It's fluffy and it has just enough of garlic kick to make it flavorful but not in an overly garlic intruding way, the garbanzo beans still have room to sing. They have a nice variety of different wines and beers to chose from. A recent discovery is the beer called "Alamaza" it's a lighter pilsner-esque beer that pairs very nicely with the kick of the garlic and the sour of the grapeleaves. Anita's has really roped me in. Every time I've gone, my experience is always pleasant right down to the service. Great place for a relaxing and tasty night out!

By far one of my favorite establishments in Ferndale. The food is consistently very good and the staff could not be nicer and more accommodating. Furthermore, the owner-operators are some of the kindest people I have ever had the opportunity to meet. Overall, it is an all-around great place that I will continue to support for years to come.

The food here is soo good! I am definitely a fan - everything was impressive - from the service to the food to the wine and the location. They offer a covered patio area, with heat lamps during the colder season. The hummous was delish -- and not too salty or dry. I was very impressed with all the staff (host, owners, waitress) and the consistency in their focus on making people feel welcome.

I've been really fond of Anita's since it's opened. The food is great. The service is great (as long as it's not a crowded weekend night). The owners are great (yes, you will actually see them working while you're eating). I've taken many friends and family to eat at Anita's, and it's always a pleasurable experience. The portions are large and the food is reasonably priced. Most of their entrees are under $15, and you get a main dish, rice, hummus, tabbouleh and soup (the crushed lentil and black bean are pretty tasty) or salad. I ALWAYS leave with leftovers. The inside is pretty small -- maybe a dozen or so tables -- but they have a covered outdoor dining area that's open during the summer. During the winter months, they enclose the entire space and bring out heaters. It's still pretty chilly, but not unbearable. I've also picked up carry-out from Anita's -- which can be an "iffy" situation at most places. But the take-our portions are just as large, and everything tastes just as good. Their online ordering is also pretty convenient, especially if you're wanting to get a quick dinner after work. They recently closed their Troy location, so if you want to check out the food at Anita's, you'll have to head to Ferndale.

Loved this place! The hummus is one of the best I've ever had. I had the grilled meat kabobs - beef, chicken and the most interesting piece - ground beef and lamb on a skewer that looked like a dark brown corn dog - now use your imagination a bit and my initial reaction to that sight was not good especially when dining. BUT it was delicious! The pita was just OK, kind of standard fare. The atmosphere was neat and there were TV's with sports - coming from New York City area, the Yankees and hockey Rangers were on so I was a happy camper. But back to the food - it was too much and fortunately my hotel has a refrigerator and microwave - it was almost as good heated up the next day. The challenge was finding parking. The staff was attentive and friendly. None of us had change so we weren't prepared for the parking meters. Gotta to go back!

Great meal. Lemon lentil soup was amazing. Shared the vegetarian combo platter and we enjoyed it very much. We had 4 in our group and we were all medium-hungry, so the platter and soup was filling. If you are famished the combo would probably satisfy only 2 or 3 people. Wish the pita was hot and fresh instead of the plastic bag of rubbery stuff we got, but otherwise the food was great!

Anita's Kitchen is one of my favorite restaurants in Ferndale. The food is AMAZING and the service is fabulous. The prices are very reasonable, and you get a ton of food with the entrees. I'm a bit of a creature of habit at Anita's because I always order the chicken shawarma dinner with fatoosh salad instead of tabouli and lemon lentil soup (which is to die for). The chicken shawarma is a heaping portion that is nearly impossible to finish in one sitting. I really love the ambiance at Anita's. It's small enough to feel quaint, but you also don't feel packed in like sardines. The patio is a great accent to the restaurant, and even cool nights are nice on the patio because of the heaters. I would recommend anyone who loves Middle Eastern food to Anita's in a heartbeat!

  • Emi R.

Oh my lord, I love this place. The staff is incredibly friendly and the food is straight-up delicious. My preferred meal is a wango tango smoothie with a lamb shish kebob pita, but there's no shortage of deliciousness here. (Try the falafel--it's totally yum.) If it's warmer, try to get outdoor seating. It's the epitome of summer. The food is not the sort of authentic Middle Eastern food you'd find at the dives in Dearborn, but it's very light and flavorful all the same. If you're craving something that tastes straight out of Beirut, there are plenty of great places, but if you want fresh, modern Middle Eastern food, go to Anita's!

I would give four stars but I was very disappointed with the service tonight. I'm not sure if they are understaffed for dinner rush like others have noted, or if our server was having a bad day, but the mistakes were just too much that we wondered if it was his first day working. Of the many mistakes, the glaring ones were: 1) He did not ask how I want my lamb chop cooked, 2) He forgot to ask what soup I want (which comes with the entree), and forgot it altogether until I mentioned it later, 3) He forgot to bring pita with our vegetarian appetizer platter, and when we asked for lettuce with the appetizer, he did not bring it until we were done, 4) He took my little left smoothie without asking, when I was going to finish it. But the food? Pretty good, and not that pricey. The Vegetarian Mezza is enough for four people. Ghallaba is not on the menu but you can ask for it, and it was my favorite of the night. The lamb chop is nothing special but good for the price. They have beer and a decent selection of wine, which is a plus for Mediterranean restaurant (since many places don't have liquor license). But if you're not in the mood for alcohol, they have varieties of smoothies. I had a custom smoothie with strawberries, pomegranate, and milk. I will likely return because the food was mostly tasty and my friends have had much better experiences prior to tonight, but I still can't give more than three stars for the time being.

I've heard so many good things about Anita's so I was excited to try it. The atmosphere is bistro-like, with an odd covered, heated porch that was in-use in January. People looked comfortable, but I was glad to be inside. Would be nice to try when the weather is warm. There was no wait for lunch on a Friday in January. I had the artichoke pie that came with fluffy rice and fresh, yummy tabouleh. I would like to go back and try the chicken dishes my lunch partner raved about. Took a while to get our food, but we were not rushed at all when we lingered after the meal. Parking is at metered spots on the street or behind the restaurant.

The family LOVES Anita's. I think it's pretty swell, too. Friendly waitstaff, tasty food and the perfect amount of seating (it's always full, but I've never had a wait). The prices are quite fair. The soups are all quite good. The hummus is perfect. Lots of menu choices.

This place has great food! I would recommend the chicken shawarma! It's very comfortable inside, and the staff is very pleasant. The only drawbacks are with parking, there is a handful of metered spots along the street (SB Woodward), and there is also a metered lot a short walk away at Rosie O'Grady's. I would discourage people from parking at the Post Office (which is right next door).

Ok, a couple of things: 1) I'm vegetarian, so I cannot speak for the quality of shwarma et. al. 2) This location is definitely a notch and a half over other Anita's that I've been to. First off, the falafel is the best I've ever had. It's amazing that I order anything else, but yet I do. And that's where, as a lover of Middle Eastern food, and especially a vegetarian, Anita's sings. The menu is DEEP. I'm still ordering things I've never tried and we go at least twice a month. Tonight it was the eggplant salad (intense flavor, but excellent) and the artichoke pie (very good). Smoothies are amazing, kid's menu is pretty solid and I've become a fan of Zaatar seasoning. What more could I ask for? Oh, maybe rotate in some more adventurous beers on tap? Of course, then I'd never leave.

what can I say about this place.... AMAZING!!!! When I come home to visit family, Anita's is the one of the first places I stop at. Danielle the manager or owner is a true doll and always stops by when she is there! Never have had a bad meal, experience, ever!! Please open one in Chicago!! We need a good M.E place!

I can not say enough good things about Anita's Kitchen! The food is wonderful, the atmosphere is great, and the people are super. This is a place where you feel good for going there when you leave.

As anyone from Detroit knows, nowhere else in the US does Middle Eastern food like Detroit does Middle Eastern food. I was in town this past weekend and was persuaded to trade in my usual favorite spot for a trip to Anita's. And as it turns out, Anita's has become my new favorite spot. The outdoor patio is spacious and comtemporary albeit a bit loud from the traffic on Woodward. We arrived at 6:30 on a Wednesday evening and had no trouble grabbing a table for 4 outdoors. We started out with the hummus which was amazing. (Insider tip for garlic lovers: Ask your waiter to bring you a big side of the garlic sauce and mix them together. It makes the flavor even more amazing.) Everyone at the table ordered the chicken feta fattoush and it did not disappoint flavor wise. The only complaint was that the salad was overdressed which left the toasted pita very soggy from the first bite. I could have been happy ordering almost anything on the menu and can't wait to sample more of their food on my next venture back to Michigan.

I am obsessed with this place right now! The food is just fantasitc. My favorite dish is the Chicken Breast lunch plate, but their pizzas and Chicken Swarmas are amazing as well. The atmosphere is great too! Favorite lunch spot!

I've eaten at Anita's Kitchen three times. All three were solid, tasty, Mediterranean meals. It can be tricky to find good vegetarian fare - and Anita's fits the bill.

I really love this place and really want it to do well... However, I have to say, it's food is a little inconsistent. Sometimes amazing...other times it leaves something to be desired. Fabulous decor and really friendly staff/owners. I would definitely say it's worth checking out!!

This place rules. It is located in Ferndale. I am not a HUGE middle eastern food guy, but this place is fantastic. The staff is great, very attentive, friendly and always tending to you. I usually get the Chicken Shawarma pita and Lebanese fries. This comes out to less than 7 bucks. TALK ABOUT A DEAL! Ive also had the hummus, and it is a bit too lemony for me. I am more of a garlicy hummus guy, as opposed to lemony. The inside decor is clean, cozy, and neat. There are 2 huge LCD TV's that are usually playing sports, which is a bonus. -1 for lack of parking. You usually have to park at a meter, and those fill up pretty quickly on a weekend night. Great place to meet friends for relaxed dining. Also, we take our 1.5 year old daughter there all the time, and she loves it too.

I love it here. Nice outdoor seating during the warmer months & a very inviting interior. Great beer, great food, and great service. And the owner (Anita's daughter), if you meet her, delivers wonderful conversation. However, moving from the Dearborn area to Ferndale and eating here for the first time last spring, I was very disappointed. This isn't the greasy-spoon lebanese food I had come to love. It's a lighter, more modern take on the cuisine, and it takes a little getting used to. Dishes I love: The mujadara entree -- I love everything about this dish, from the caramelized onions to the yogurt to the pickled peppers. Clean plate club! (don't assume the sandwich is as good -- it's not even close.) The goat cheese, spinach, and lentil mezza (appetizer) - rich and comforting The super falafel sandwich -- done just right. The hommus -- a bit salty and acidic, but that's better than being flavorless, like many recipes out there. The lemon lentil soup - aromatic and delicious. Very comforting. Dissappointments: The feta, olive, and tomato mezza - salty, but not much else. The fattoush salad - it just isn't done right. I guess it's supposed to be their unique take on the dish, but it needs a reboot. As another reviewer said, "Bell peppers? Yuck!"

Exceptional Lebanese food. The ingredients were very fresh. I had a beef kabob, which was very flavorful, but maybe a little tougher than I would like. The hummus and eggplant salad were exceptional. Their garlic sauce had a perfect blend of olive oil/lemon/garlic. Their food is the most refined Lebanese style I have had. The only thing that could be improved was the meat, which was still enjoyable. Highly Recommended.

Went back recently with a friend from New York. The food was up and down as was the service. The hostess was not very nice. She was not nice on the phone when I called beforehand and she was not nice in person. We had to wait for a table which is not uncommon but then when our table came up it was the worst in the place- right by the door. We tried to ask if we could wait for the next one but she would not let us. Our only other choice was to stay at the bar. So we ended up at a not so nice table. But then the waitress was wonderful. So nice and accomodating . As for the food, the falafel and hummous were delicious, as was the lentils and goat cheese. But we ordered the set of three pies thinking they would be made out of philo dough and equally nice. They were gross. The dough was a weird consistency and not very tasty. I will never order those again. I think maybe I want Anita's to be better than it is. Alas.

This is right around the corner from work, for which I am very grateful! The Chicken Feta Fattoush is one specialty that I adore, especially since it's all veggies, no lettuce messing up the formula! The de-boned chicken is amazing, and huge (seriously, make sure you split it with someone, or you'll end up hurting yourself). The staff are smart, well-trained, attentive, and just all-around pleasant. There's often a wait on the weekends, but it's worth it, and tables turn over fairly quickly, since the staff are so good at serving. Oh, and unlike so many places, they are just as attentive to take-out orders as to seated diners, which is nice.

5 stars for the outdoor seating... 3 stars for the food... Living in Detroit we have access to some of the best Middle Eastern restaurants and this is not one of them. The food is average at best. The Tabouli was dry and flavorless. The Fattoush salad had huge chunks of cucumbers and tomatoes with NO pita -- why do I get the fattoush salad, for the the pita! Hummus was bitter and almost inedible. The meat dishes were good but not memorable. I always get grilled veggies when I go to middle eastern restaurants. I was expecting fresh, grilled veggies lightly glazed in olive oil, instead, I received a soup bowl of olive oil with stringy onions and maybe a mushroom or two. Love the outdoor seating and service is attentive. Totally do not love the food. I will be back for a drink on the patio and maybe a serving of french fries.

My cousin and I decided to try Anita's Kitchen for the first time before heading to GoComedy (check them out!) down the block. Both the Shish Tawook and Falafel (fried) were excellent! Each meal came with rice pilaf, hummus and tabbouleh, and it was all delicious! For desert, my cousin loved her lemon tart. I had the baklava, which was good but nothing special. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice. Despite it being a Saturday evening, we did not have to wait for a table; however, the restaurant has very little standing room and the tables are very close together, which is why I am giving this restaurant four stars instead of five. Will definitely be back though, since the food was delicious and there are many more items on the menu we are looking forward to trying.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. I know it's going to be tough, but they really need to distance themselves from the Troy location. Not sure, but maybe a dear John letter would be the classy way to go. I ate at the Troy location this one time, and, well, now I don't. The Phoenician pizza rocks, as does the chicken feta fattoush salad. Maybe the spinach pie if you're feeling like a bit of a maverick. I eat at this place at least 3 times a month, you would think I would know more about the menu, but you would be wrong. The one thing I do know is that this Anita's Kitchen is waaaaaaay better than the one in Troy. Also, I usually order my carry-out through their website, which is the way to go, since it gets loud in there and tough for the person taking the order to hear.

Great food and great service. Needless to say there is no shortage of great Middle Eastern food here in the Detroit area but Anita's offers the great combination of great food and a great atmosphere! This place is quaint and has a huge covered patio which is awesome in the summer. The bar has a limited selection but what they do have in beer and wine is sufficient. You must try the lentil soup and the chicken shawarma and if they have it, the lamb with peas ( it was their daily special the day I tried it. Not sure if its on their regular menu.) I have dined in and done takeout and the food is just as good both ways. All in all a very nice spot for lunch with friends or a casual date night.

Anitas Kitchen is top notch in every aspect. The decor is warm and stylish but not pretentious, the service is always friendly and the food is very consistent and as good as lebanese gets. The owners (Anita, Jennifer and Joe) are the nicest people you'll ever meet, work most of the business hours and really make you feel at home. They proudly offer michigan beers and wines which is a huge bonus for me. The patio rocks! They have tower heaters they bring out when its a little chilly and plastic flaps that they let up or down to keep it comfy. If youve never been, just get the mixed mezza for you and a friend or two, grab some Oberon and chill the afternoon away. They have online ordering that has worked flawlessly when I've used it. Love this place.

(3.5 Stars) Ventured to Anita's last Thursday with Jenny Shore after her Aunt had been in her ear about the quality. We had a bit of a wait for a table but hey it was the Thursday before Good Friday. I did think it was kinda weird for the staff to dry glasses right @ the bar while my date was sipping on Riesling but whatever. Our server was awesome, prompt courteous & helped us from over ordering. We enjoyed fried kibbie (yes, trynna ease her into things) and the shish kebob combo. Maybe the choices do not sound too exciting but everything was properly seasoned & well executed. Their fattoush had that perfect balance of olive oil to lemon juice (yes there is such a thing as too much olive oil Hamido - Dearborn Heights). Anita's can definitely hold their own against my current fav's in Dearborn, but it's a bit pricer. At the same time the atmosphere is nicer a lil bit more refined so I think they can justify their cost. I'll be happy to make a return visit!

First of all, what's not to love about Anita's kitchen? The food is fabulous, it has a covered outdoor patio for dining al fresco, and wine ranges from $4 to $8 a glass? (note: the inexpensive price for wine DID NOT influence my review). I just went there for the first time two nights ago, and I am petty sure this may be one of my new favorite eateries/hangouts. The inside has dark woven wood chairs. I don't think I woud be unhappy with any table in the restuarant because each had its own intimate feel. I highly recommend the Phoenician Pizza (roasted eggplant, tomatoes, red onion, mint, and feta) and Anita's chopped salad (a blend of iceberg and romaine lettuce, chopped grilled chicken breast, tomatoes, feta, hard boiled egg, bacon with Anita's creamy feta dressing). The chicken on the chopped salad was seasoned to perfection and holy mackarel the salad was large enough for 2 to split! I am already planning on when I can take-out from here later this week. Our waitresses (I believe one was training) were really on-spot- never had an empty wine glass and they made sure we always had enough pita. If you keep me eating and drinking... you win a spot in my heart.

I hadn't been to Anita's in forever (on Orchard Lake), but since it is now basically in my backyard, I walked over a few days ago. The place to be is definitely on the patio. At lunchtime on a nice summer's day it is really perfect out there. I really enjoyed my Zaatar pizza and fatoush salad. Service was a little quirky, but all in all I had a great time. The food is by no means as good as Pita cafe, but for local Lebanese food, it does the trick. For a drink I had lemonade with mint leaves (which I drank all the time in the middle east). You have to order it special, but it's pretty tasty.

The food here is very good. All of it is very fresh, flavorful and made to order. The portions are great as well. I'd recommend any of the freshly squeezed juices. They're delicious and healthy! The establishment itself is very clean and kept. That is huge for me. My service here has always been top notch. All of the servers I've ever had have been friendly, efficient and great at recommendations. I'm still new to the cuisine so the their suggestions are definitely appreciated! I've seen the managers/owners in action and they are very nice and accommodating. I think the other reviews that state otherwise about the service and management is either a run of bad luck or they're just the type of people that want everyone around them to wipe their asses. I'd like to address one of the reviews that boldly states the name of the server, Eddie. I'd just like to say that Eddie has been a server of mine several times and he has ALWAYS been professional and does his job very well. Understand that I am not slamming any other reviewer in any way, shape or form. I just think it is in poor taste to attempt to jeopardize someone else's means. If one has a bad experience, have the decency to simply state your piece and move forward. The rest is unnecessary and just plain rude. With that being said, I've NEVER had a bad experience here and would definitely recommend Anita's Kitchen!

Dea A. says something similar to what I would say. If you go to a really solid Mediterranean food spot this place falls really short. I'm actually giving it a 3 because It has a decent beer and wine selection and the bartender was cool last time I went to have one. The first and last time I ate there I got chicken-something or other. All I can remember is feeling shorted on the food for paying the price I am used to paying at other less schmancy places - where you get more for the money. Oh yea, and their rice. I thought it was Rice-A-Roni rice pilaf which is OK at home but I don't want to feel like I'm eating rice from a box when I go out to eat, especially at this price. The food was average. My favorite place to eat Med-Food right now is Sahara in Oak Park and I'm sorry but Anita's Kitchen does not even come close. Once you eat at a real Mediterranean food place you will simple not be interested in eating at Anita's Kitchen ever again. Not unless you Have to Have alcohol with your meal, of course.

Amazing, delicious, fresh and plentiful. The decor in Anita's Kitchen is modern and cozy. My husband and I went for a late lunch and both ordered off the Lunch Specials menu. We both had the lentil soup to start and I had a lamb shish kabob (cooked medium rare) with hummus, tabbouleh, and rice pilaf. Sean had chicken schwarma with the same sides. The soup featured whole lentils (I am more fond of crushed) but was lemony and delicious. The shish kabobs were cooked to perfection, the tabbouleh was fresh and not too watery or gritty and the rice was amazing. I had a bite of Sean's chicken and the spices used to season it were unique and perfect. Our waiter, Jared, was the perfect balance of being attentive without being intrusive. All in all, it was a delicious lunch and I will definitely be going back. Hopefully soon!

My new favorite Middle Eastern restaurant in town. Food is fresh, I wouldn't call it most authentic but I like the choices. For example, they have baked Farafil instead of fried; lots of salads and vegetarian choices; and the price is really reasonable for everything. Staff is very friendly - not in a 'fake' way like some other places :-) I had Lebanese wine for the first time here (they have other wine and beer too). Not many Middle Eastern restaurants have wine, so this is nice. They have parking spaces on Troy Street.

Anita's Kitchen is one of my favorite restaurants in Ferndale. We usually order takeout since it is always so crowded inside. The online ordering is very easy and very specific. It makes it very easy to order EXACTLY what you want. My food has always come out fresh and on time and the employees are always very friendly. I give 4 stars instead of 5 because it is VERY hard to find a parking spot. Luckly I live a couple blocks away now so I can walk.

Went in for my weekly fix and walked out cradling my to go bag like it was a child, for this bag had lebnah in it. I felt like I was walking out with something that I just didn't want any other person to see, like I was Golum and this was my precious. So good. Anita's always keeps me sated and smiling, what more can a gal ask for.

I don't even know where to start...it is a crime to live in the area and not eat here. Whenever I'm not entirely sure where/what to eat, Anita's always sounds good. It has a very modern yet comfortable atmosphere, everyone working there has been amazing on my many frequent visits, and they give you huge portions of incredibly delicious food for very little cash money. Their soups are always delicious and I have never had a better Spinach Pie anywhere. Ever. Their hummus is perfect and the tabbouleh is bright and fresh. You also must get their baklava. Probably the cheapest dessert in town and the best baklava I've ever put in my mouth. I can't say enough good things about this place.

Loved this place. Of course it is Mediterranean food and this is my favorite! The waiter was wonderful, very attentive. Went twice within a week's time, so you know that I really liked it. Went with two different group of friends and had something different both times. The one thing I thought was a little unusual is that when ordering fattoush you have to ask them to put lettuce in the salad and there was little to no toasted pita bread! Oh well, each to their own, but everywhere else I've had fattoush it had lettuce and pita bread in it. I think maybe Anita's Kitchen wants to be set apart from other Arabic restaurants??? I don't know, but I definitely will be back. Loved the atmosphere and everyone was so nice and the food I ate was delicious!

Love this place!!! The ambience and patio is amazing and so is the food. The pricing is just right too. Gluten free menu too. We always bring out of towners here for dinner and get the mixed mezza. Tons of food and perfect for people that are not familiar with middle eastern food and want to sample it all!

For some random reason or other, we have never dined at the Troy location of Anita's Kitchen. I saw the new Ferndale outpost recently and figured it was time to give this restaurant a shot. We wandered in around 7:30 on a Saturday night, with two parties already waiting ahead of us. There's not much space in the front for that many people, but the maitresse d' was personable and we were seated pretty quickly. The space is pretty cozy...a little front area with some bar-top tables and a few booths, a bar with a few chairs, and a lot of four-tops in the rest of the "dining room" with breezy divider curtains to create some intimacy. The patio looks like a great spot and I can't wait for it to open - it's heated and supposedly will accommodate 50 diners. Clean, contemporary stylings...polished cement floors, comfortable faux wicker seats, cozy but not cramped table layout. We were starving when we got there so as soon as our server came by, we ordered a small plate of hummus. The pita (the thin kind that's cut into wedges and stuffed into a plastic sandwich bag) is really fresh and soft here, unlike other restaurants that serve day(s)-old bagged pita. The hummus is some of the best I've had in the area - really smooth, lemony, light; the small is very generously sized. Other items on the appetizer list include baba ghanouj, falafel - all the standards. The sandwiches are really cheap, but we came for dinner and so focused just on the entrees. We tried the chicken shawarma and the chicken tawook kabob. The shawarma is amazing - I love the marinade, rich with sumac, and the grilling method is one of the only ways that I enjoy chicken breast/white meat. The shish tawook was very good as well, not dried out in the least. We didn't realize that the entrees came with hummus already and will likely skip the appetizer next time, as the portion that came with our meals was more than adequate. In addition, all entrees come with a choice of soup (we tried the lemon lentil, which I liked but hubby didn't), rice pilaf (which would be absolutely divine if a few almond slices were sprinkled over it), and tabbouleh. LOTS of food, and very decently priced, too! The beer list is pretty thin - there is a Lebanese brew, Almaza beer, on the menu, but they were sold out. The wine list is also edited with many affordable but middling varietals. Bottom line...with restaurants like Anita's in town, I don't think that we'll miss La Shish in the least.

Holy cow! I mean chicken. Just had the deboned chicken at Anita's kitchen and it is fan... Wait for it.. tastic!!! It's not on their lunch menu but they made it since I asked for it. It was well worth it as you can tell by my excitement. It is a big plate so either be really hungry (like I was) or just have a big appetite. The staff is friendly and the service was great. The fact place is really clean with a very mellow environment. For the alcohol enthusiasts, they have a good wine and beer selection too. If you are still thinking about it then don't be stupid. Put the address in your GPS and drive. GO GO GO!!!!

Anita's Kitchen turned my butt hole into the gates of hell. Thank you so much for the offering a gluten free menu and putting pita chips in my salad twice. How did you know I love damaging my intestines and crapping my brains out? The gluten free menu is a blatant lie, and I'm not sure it's legal to offer a GF menu when it's not actually GF. That's a FDA classification, not a suggestion. The reason I've been coming here for years is the gluten free menu and the great food. After ordering gluten free, getting a salad with pita chips, reordering my salad and then verbally confirming that my salad was indeed remade and indeed gluten free, I was surprised to find some hidden gems in my salad. I enjoyed the poor service too, it was a great bonus! As someone with celiac disease I really enjoyed finding hidden pieces of soggy pita bread five bites into my salad. I would like to thank you for the explosive diarrhea! It was truly wonderful, the sensation of your asshole after it has been turned into a silo, angrily launching satan's hate rocket full speed into a toilet, is nothing short of wonderful. Words cannot describe the pride one feels hunched over a toilet, straining in pain and clasping at toilet paper as paint curdling fumes waft out from under your ass. Next time I want to look look into my toilet and see a pureed Taco Bell burrito, I will save myself the time and eat a box of laxative or something from Taco Bell. Thanks! I have had many great experiences at Anitas, I've taken many people here, and my parents have even had them cater parties before. Anita's lost four loyal customers today. Since my parents treated us (my husband and I) to this dinner, they felt awful that it was such a bad experience and partially responsible. The manager comped the meal after I called once and my husband called to follow up. For how sick I got, I don't feel like this is enough. This truly horrendous experience cancels out the good experiences. Poor service, and food that made me violently ill after five bites.

It's a beautiful summer day in Ferndale and lunch with family at Anita's on the patio. I ordered the Baked Falafel Platter served with traditional hummus, rice and tabouli salad - a light meal, just the right portion size and so yummy! Turkish coffee for dessert Love the energy! Waiter very attentive. Food served quickly. Lots of parking available. A mix of young and older crowd. Will definitely make this one of my go-to place for dining every time I visit Michigan specially if you are Vegan or Vegetarian.

Anita's Kitchen, oh how I wish I could bring you home with me! If there's one thing from Anita's that I will include in my list of things to eat before I die, it's their Kibbeh Nyeh. Its lamb tartare (aka raw, uncooked meat) served with onions, pita bread, and olive oil on the side. But man, the flavors of this dish were amazing and I still have dreams of eating this. Another stand out dish was their lamb chops. These were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The tabbouIeh salad was an amazing side to this dish. I almost wanted to steal the lamb and tabbouleh from my bf but that would have been mean. The mixed grill is a good option for those who want to try a little bit of everything. It comes with a shish, kafta and tawook kebabs. My favorites were the shish and kafta kebabs. I thought the tawook (which was chicken) was a little dry and alright but definitely go with either beef or lamb. I'm looking foward to coming back to Anita's Kitchen during my next visit to get my Kibbeh Nyeh fix!

I came here last night with a couple friends and wasn't sure what to expect after reading the divided reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. We were seated promptly and the waiter was not only engaging, but was also very attentive and had a sense of humor. We ordered the roasted red pepper hummus and lentil, spinach, and goat cheese dish for starters. The red pepper hummus was tasty and had good texture. The lentil dish was simple but flavorful and the lentils were cooked perfectly. For entrees we got the spinach pie, lamb grape leaves, and a fattoush salad. The spinach pie was rich, but not overwhelmingly so, and it came with rice, tabbouli, and a cup of lentil soup. All of those were good as well. The lamb grape leaves were flavorful and came with hummus, tabbouli, rice, and a salad. My only complaint was the dressing for the fattoush salad didn't taste right. It was overly salty and lacked the typical fattoush dressing taste I'm accustomed to. My only complaint is that the prices on the entrees are a little high, but I'll be back. :)

Great food! I tried the hummus, beef kebob and spinach pie. All were great. The tabbouleh is wonderfully refreshing and the rocket fuel juice is yummy as well!

Another Ferndale eatery fails at service. What is it about Ferndale that the service sucks at all their restaurants? Was with a work group for lunch and sat outside for 15 minutes. The ONLY reason our waiter came and took our orders - was because we hunted him down. After the group placed our orders - we waited another 10-15 minutes for our beverages. Fast forward 25 minutes (that's 25 minutes AFTER drinks) and we FINALLY get our food. If you're keeping tack, we have now been there an hour and are JUST getting food. Of course not all the plates were ready, and some members of our group waiting another 10 minutes before receiving their dishes. The food was okay. I don't think it was anything special for Middle Eastern food - there are far better places to go. Again - missing the mark. Our team will not be returning.

The Jalapeno Hummus is to die for... I work up the street, order lunch from Anita's often. Awesome food, good pricing. Highly recommend, for lunch in the Ferndale Area

Delicious!! Went for lunch and had the spinach pie lunch deal and hummus as an app. The hummus was very good we ate it all! It was my first time ordering spinach pie at a Mediterranean restaurant and I think I found my new favorite dish- so good! My friend had the Mediterranean pizza which was their special for the day and it had lots of flavor! Also, you have to make sure to get a fresh squeezed lemonade. Will definitely be back to try more.

I came here kicking and screaming. It took forever to convince me to try this spot out. It's not so much that I'm against this type of food, but I'm a bit of a creature of habit. When there is a solid rotation of five restaurants in my wheelhouse, it's takes a bit a coaxing to get me to try a new place. Anita's was such a place, yet I'm sorry it took me so long to eat here now. Now that I've finally broken the seal and had dinner there a few times now, I would like to submit my findings: A good dinner spot, I decided I'd start out with the negatives and end on the positives so you leave this review with a favorable view of them (which they totally deserve) The Bad: -The Drink selection here is mediocre at best (in my own opinion, my boyfriend disagrees). -The space is a little crammed, the tables are really close together and I always feel cramped. The Good: -The food is very good. I highly recommend their grape leaves. Their standard soups are always great to start with and I can't begin to tell you how many people simply shout "Shawarma" when I mention Anita's Kitchen. -The menu is idiot proof. I've written about this before when it comes to ethnic food, whenever a place can supply a description of what each selection contains, it's always a plus in my book. Sure, i could just become more cultured (which I desperately wish I was) but it's nice they accommodate simpletons like myself. -The raw juices are even better than their food. -Even at the most peak hours of the day, I've never had to wait for a table. This is a very efficiently run restaurant.

Former kids of the Detroit suburbs (a longish time ago) with our transplanted son (from our Chicago home, now in GP), my partner and I rely upon his good taste to suggest places to go. Thus, we arrived at Anita's--and enjoyed it! So we had the hummus to start--upper end quality of this great appetizer. The chicken wings didn't do it for me, but I generally am not a fan anyways (the gourmet scout had them and gave them a thumbs up). I had the Shish Tawook (chicken shish kabob)--for those who have had this before, you get exactly what you would hope for, nicely seasoned properly cooked cubes of chicken. And bravo for having a gluten-free menu! Not for me, but for my partner--brought a smile to her face and she was complimentary in all regards. Her choice was the lamb kabobs. The setting is comfortable and stylish. The server was a delight. I'm thinking going for their flatbread pizza next time. The traditional fare is hard to beat, but I'm thinking they do everything well here.

Consistently disappointed with this place. Every now again I wi order carry out or pop in, with desperate hopes that they have improved or will be able to follow a simple order as is off their menu... Though with out fail I continue to be disappointed. Poor food quality, poor service, and over priced for the vegetarian options. Last straw when I ordered a chicken sandwich to go, specifically asking it to be pressed on the grill- and was told all sandwiches are. Of course it was not.

Do I really need to add to the already over 300 reviews about Anita's? There's a reason why Anita's has been in Ferndale for over 8 years while other restaurants come and go (Was John D even there or am I imagining things?) Anita's is the most healthy and fresh option outside of picking the crops in a garden and having your grandma make it for you. Your grandma doesn't have that sweet outdoor covered patio though or the astute wine and beer list. Nor does your grandma know how to make the spicy lamb ghallaba that I die for. Sorry grandma. In closing Anita's also support other businesses in Ferndale (pinwheel bakery items for dessert**) and treats their staff awesome. Ever notice when Anita's closes up on holidays when other places force their employees to work? .

Anita's is one of my favorites, I go very often! The grape leaves and falafel are out of this world. However, their bread is THE ONLY complaint I have from there. The garlic paste is delicious but the bread taste store bought and old. Especially in the carryouts. The bread alone would increase the frequency of my visits. With such a successful restaurant the bread should be soft and warm.

Walked up at 6:00pm on a Saturday night and was seated immediately on patio on a beautiful summer night. Chicken schwarma was recommended and it was delicious, as was the hummus, salad and other accompaniments. Everything was fresh. Service quick but we weren't rushed. I'm going back and taking friends.

Anita's Kitchen serves Very nice Mediterranean food. We decided to eat here for a very late lunch on a Saturday. We liked it so much we went back again two weeks later. We were seated at once both times, and they were kind enough to bring out a cup of hot water immediately, so that I could warm up my son's bottle of milk. My husband and I ordered a couple of sandwiches (both times)... I had the chicken shawarma and he had a shish kafta and we shared a lamb shish kabob. All three sandwiches were absolutely excellent, but I liked the Shish kafta the best. My mom-in-law had the grape leaves, which we thoroughly enjoyed. I had a bite, but am not a big fan of grape leaves... And I thought they were ok. We also ordered some garlic as a starter and it came with warm pita bread. The garlic -one of my favorite dishes- was perfect. Strong without being overpowering. For dessert, I had a baklava the first time we were there, which was a bit of a disappointment. It wasn't as sweet and sticky as I like it to be. The second time round, I had the lemon tart, and that was Devine. My mom-in-law also really liked her Turkish Coffee.

  • Kevin L.

Just fabulous! This small place doesn't take reservations and it does get busy. However, it is worth the wait. Prices are reasonable. Service was decent enough. Wine choices were average. Skip the Turkish coffee. It seems to have an aftertaste that reminded me of lemon Pledge. Do get the Joe's Not So Buffalo Chicken Wings. Just a note, you will need to allow 20 minutes for them. Pita Pizzas are surprisingly delicious. They do not have tomato sauce on them like a traditional pizza. They do have lots of cheese and fresh ingredients. The Spinach & Cheese pizza, which has a nice amount of garlic, will remind you of the coveted white pizza that is so hard to find around here. Their version of the gyro is just so refreshing and light. You won't beleive that it only costs $4.95! The salads are bountiful. They allow you to substitute organic quinoa for the cracked wheat in some of their dishes for $1.00. That is a nice touch for those looking for something different or who want to have a gluten free option. Overall, everything I have selected so far has been wonderful. They have so many great sounding choices that all look delicious. I cannot wait to return to try all of them.

Amazing. I loved everything that I ordered. The fresh mint brewed tea was a great addition. I was there for lunch and had the lunch plate of falafil (I spelled that way wrong) it was amazing. The garlic spread is great and a must order. I also added the lentil soup on to lunch which was outstanding. The service was friendly and fast. Only downfall is that they do not have any wine from Lebanon.

Excellent food! The hummus is excellent, the grapeleaves were almost perfect, not too dry, not sopping wet, lot of flavor. They were a bit too heavy on the cinnamon for my liking, but this is very high quality Arabic food. Looking forward to trying the kibee.

I love this place. I always sit at the same table, have the same waiter, and the same perfectly prepared chicken shwarma sandwich (add humus). Although, this time I added the babaganoush with eggplant and the lemon lentil soup. All were awesome. Oh, and you cannot beat the price.

What an adorable quaint little place. I have been going to Anita's for years. It used to be for the Chicken Shwarma, but I have since moved on to other menu items. I can't get enough of the Chicken Feta Fattoush Salad. Its so good and refreshing, the crunchy pita chips in the salad just top it off. Be sure to ask for them on the side if you get it to go, wouldn't want them to get soggy. The lamb chops are pretty great too. And the fresh smoothies they'll make you with whatever you ask them to put you in it. Anita's is awesome.

A Ferndale staple, you likely will not be disappointed by Anita's Kitchen. The staff is friendly and eager to please and the food is good. When the weather is nice, the semi-private outdoor seating is the way to go. On this last visit, we ordered the following: Jalapeno hummus: wow, this was sooo good! Nice and spicy, but not overpowering. Raw kibbee: not bad, but not my favorite (Bridgette's on Garfield is the best). I do like that they offer a small and large size. The small is enough for two. Chicken kebab: always a solid choice. The lunch portion comes with hummus and tabboule and rice. My friend and I each had two glasses of wine and never felt rushed. In fact, I recommend the malbec with the raw kibbee. I have to give a shout out to Dewane who hooked us up with a bag of ice to keep our leftovers cool while we got a pedicure down the street. Above and beyond.

I was egregiously disappointed by Anita's. Honestly, I had a nagging feeling I would be, but with all the rave reviews and the location (in my nabe) I had to give them a try. So I got some take-out. The portions were extremely skimpy. No almonds in the rice. The side salad was 3 forkfuls. The food tasted ok-meh, except for their za'atar pita pizza. That's likely the only thing I'd order from here again. I should think 'burbanites would know better, since SE MI has some of the BEST Middle Eastern grub in the country (and you'll likely get three times the portion at 2/3 Anita's price). I think Anita's banks on the lazy. Buuuut if ever I'm feeling lazy again, I'm just going to get in my car and go down 8 mile to the Southfield and...yeah.

I wasn't sure what to expect of Anita's Kitchen in Ferndale as I'm fond of the middle eastern restaurants in Dearborn. However the food was fantastic and the waiter was knowledgable about gluten free items, and was able to substitute gluten free tabbouleh made with quinoa for us as well. I ordered the lamb shish kebob lunch special which is served with rice, hummus, and tabbouleh. I added a cup of the lemon lentil soup which was not puréed as usual but rather the lentils were left whole. The lemon taste was strong but not too sour. I would definitely go back to explore further. Also, great service!

Everything is really fresh. I've had mixed vegetable - fruit juices in many health food & middle eastern restaurants. The three of us ordered 3 different juices/smoothies and all agreed they were the best we've ever had. Waitperson Tom was hilarious - like telling my daughter they were out of the smoothie she wanted, then "just kidding." I asked for more napkins - "No." It's great to see someone enjoying their work.

I probably crave Mediterranean food about once per year; I like it, I'm just not crazy about it. Now that I've been to Anita's, I'll be craving their chicken fatoosh salad, regularly. A generous portion of steaming, fresh and juicy, seasoned grilled chicken, served atop a mountain of cold freshly cut romaine and other crispy vegetables, lightly dressed, I enjoyed every bite. That salad was sweet talking me. Very friendly and efficient service.

My wife and I tried this place on a Friday after seeing Spy with Melissa McCarthy. The movie was hilarious and we came here for dinner. I had the Fresh Maker smoothie, which was incredibly fresh and delicious. It had tart and sweet from the strawberries and kiwis and Earthy and refreshing from the mint and cucumber. She ordered the Chicken Feta Fattoush Salad and I had the Gallabha with chicken. We also ordered some Baba Ghannouge, which was warm, hearty, and delicious. Our waiter, Tom, was great, he took our orders promptly and checked on us often to make sure we had enough pita bread and beverages. Our food came out quickly and mine was outstanding. My wife's salad was a little soggy from the dressing, but it had good flavor. There were a few things keeping this place from getting 4 stars. First, one of the staff members ran into my wife when she was coming to the table and he did not say excuse me and he did not apologize, so he needs training on proper etiquette. Second, we watched one of the staff members stand on the bar close to the smoothy station to change the specials on the chalkboard. To make matters worse, we watched him use a hand towel to clean the area where his shoes were. So, anyone that used that hand towel to dry their hands or clean an area was going to get the crap from that dude's shoes all over the place. I'm not an expert on cleanliness, but that seemed like a health code violation. Third, the place is extremely crammed-tables on top of tables-not a whole lot of space to move, which makes it dangerous to walk around. When I came back from the restroom, which is a one-at-a-time with a locked door restroom, I found that I had to be extra careful walking back to my table because the kitchen door is perpendicular to the bathroom and the waiter pick-up station is around a corner with a blindspot. It would not surprise me if they have spilled a lot of food and broke a lot of dishes due to the lack of functionality and safety of this area.

Where we all can embrace Syria and The Dynamite Cuisine of the region. I have has 70 meals here and will have as many more due to the SERVICE. Mid East food can be had in many neighborhoods, but not with Anita's quality and passion.

My friend and I spent the afternoon in Ferndale toady and decided to have a late lunch at Anita's. Have driven past it many times but never stopped to eat there. Our server was very friendly and all smiles. He was also very attentive. We both ordered from the lunch menu and our food was served promptly. It was exactly as described and very delicious, not too filling but just right for lunch. The tabbouleh was excellent. The mint iced tea was very tasteful and we appreciated the refills. We ate out side and the atmosphere was great. I thought the prices were reasonable and I would recommend Anita's and I will eat there again.

Eastern Michigan's got one leg up on LA for middle eastern food. Was craving some middle eastern food and found Anita's Kitchen. Upon arrival the decor was more suggestive of an american cafe type, with outdoor enclosed patio area. We ordered the falafel appetizer, chicken schwarma pita wrap, and beef schwarma plate. Portions were generous and prices really good. Food was a little on the salty side, but overall good find.

This restaurant has some of the best Middle Eastern food in SE Michigan. Here are my thoughts: Food: Appetizer - Stuffed grape leaves - best I've had. The stuffing was flavorful. Entrees - lamb shank, mixed grill, and chicken shawarma - All were deliciously seasoned standard sized portions; however, with the accompanying sides, it was more than we could eat. Sides - hummus, tabbouleh, rice pilah, and soup or salad. I eat Middle Eastern food all the time, but this restaurant really stood out with its hummus and tabbouleh, which is where a lot of restaurants slide. It was really tasty all by themselves. The rice pilaf was good, but standard (and lacked sliced almonds). The Lebanese salads that came with the entrees was not that good, and was a little small. I've actually had better Lebanese salad elsewhere. My son had the lemon lentil soup with his meal; it was very good. Drinks - We had the Berries over Beirut smoothies and wine. The smoothies were good and reasonably priced. I liked that when I was unsure about a wine, my server brought me a sample before I ordered a glass. My dad enjoyed two glasses of the house wine. Prices: The prices were reasonable for the atmosphere and entree portions. Atmosphere: Nice, casual, upbeat, but cozy. Prompt seating. Great service. Overall - I loved that it was a relaxed, yet upbeat vibe in the evening. The food was excellent (except for the salad that comes with the entree). Wonderful service.

I ordered a small Greek Salad w/ Chicken and paid $12.00. When I got home and opened up the carry out container I was in shock I have never in my life seen such a small salad for $12.00. 1 cup of lettuce, 1 tbsp of feta, 2 pieces of cucumber, 4 small tomatoes pieces and Beets took up half of my container! This is a disgrace for a restaurant to put out such a horrible product to its consumer. I will never order from Anitas Kitchen again, totally overrated & over priced. I will go to Pita Café any day!!

Hubby and I wanted something healthy-ish after leaving the Palmer Park Art Fair a few weeks ago. I had been hearing a lot about Anita's but we hadn't made it because we usually go to Dearborn for our Lebanese fix..! But being so close by we decided to give it a ago..and we're glad we did! While the experience may not be as "authentic" as what you get in Dearborn (I suppose by authentic I mean Arabs serving Arabs..the servers and the clientele at Anita's didn't look the least bit Arab) I do have to say the the quality of the food, the service, and the ambiance was much better than what we get in Dearborn at Al Ameer for example. We had the fried kibbe for a starter and it was the lost delicious kibbe I've had since I used to live in Lebanon..We then both had the falafel salad - with two falafel fried and two baked. I appreciate that they offer the baked falafel option but I don't think id go for it again. It was rather grainy and pasty. Fried falafel it is! To round out the whole experience was the beautiful patio. Now that the weather has (kind of) broken..it felt good to be seated in a semi-outdoor space and we enjoyed it much more than the dumpy restaurants in Dearborn.. We will definitely be back! Can't wait to try more things on the menu. I won't forsake Dearborn entirely but probably reserve going there for when I'm craving manoushe from Zaatar W Zeit and sweets from Shatila.

Anita's kitchen, is awesome! You can dine in or outside, order online, everyone is always friendly. The only place in Ferndale for authentic arabic food, otherwise you're better off going to East Dearborn. Nothing like this anywhere else.

I really like the atmosphere for casual dining. They seem very busy. The prices are high for what you receive. The garlic sauce is the weirdest looking and tasting I have had...really strange. I won't be back. Very odd.

I enjoy this place. It is a prettier version of the La________ restaurants that ubiquitous in this area. The food seems a bit Americanized, but still tasty. My only issue with this restaurant is that unlike the aforementioned La___________ restaurants in the area the bread is terrible. It seems like a nit picky thing, but when it come to middle eastern restaurants in MI, it is ALL ABOUT THE BREAD! That being said, this a nice place, great for a date and worth a trip. However, when it comes to the food, I have had better.

Has been on my YELP radar for a very long time, and since I was at Essential Massage, now was that time. I called ahead & pre ordered the Schwarma /crushed lentil soup combo for $7.75 & was encouraged by a friend to try one of there blended fruit drinks . I was told 15 minutes. I arrived in 17 ...they said it would be a moment or two. . .another 12 minutes went by & I inquired where might that order be? She asked my name & looked through the multiple carry outs & BAM there is was..sitting under the lights all that time. She apologized. The food...I guess Im spoiled by the quality of MR Kabob, as they make there Pita Wraps SUPERB this was okay...but lacked flavor & was rather dry. the crushed lentil soup , appeared water down as it was runny & thin & fell off of the spoon. I was hoping for so much more..& the 30-40 people dining inside & on the patio, seemed to be having a fabulous experience at 1pm on a Wednesday.

Very very good. 3 of us split the combination mezza and left with food on the plate. We orderd a side of the kibbeh (raw lamb) that should really be half the size that was delivered.

I like this place, I don't love it, but a lack of better middle eastern options in the area bump it from 3.5 stars to 4. The food is good, but not great. The size of the meat on their kabobs is somewhat small, making them dry at times, but I love that they give you all of the basics for a good Middle Eastern meal at this place. At least their entrees come with humus and tabouli (take note Pita Cafe!), and their service is good (Great job Janelle!). I still prefer Ikes in Sterling Heights over Anitas. Their food is better, and their portions are bigger. However, if you need a good Middle Eastern fix and you're local to this place, you'll get good food and have a good experience here. Note to the managers: If you guys read these, you really need umbrellas on the tables outside of the covered patio area, and get rid of the damn birds nest on the North West side of the covered patio area.

I have been going to Anita's for the last 8 or so years. I have both dined in and ordered carryout, however my last handful of visits have all been disappointing. Portions have gotten much smaller, however prices have either increased or remained the same. The last two times I ate here I ordered the lamb kabob which I asked to be cooked to medium both times, but was served either well done or extremely rare. The last time I dined in with my boyfriend, he ordered the falafel and he said it was extremely dry and didn't taste right to the point where he couldn't finish it. I had been reluctant to come back for a while, but today I placed a carryout order and got the middle eastern michigan salad, assuming that it would be difficult to mess up a salad. For $12, I received a light portion of overdressed spring mix, a sprinkle of toppings, with chicken on top. I almost forgot the salad came with dried cherries until then end why I finally found a couple. It was the same as far as the cheese. There were about 3 crumbles on top, and I kept hoping there would be more mixed in, but there wasn't. I also wish they put the dressing on the side especially since it was a carryout order. There was way too much dressing, and the spring mix was starting to get soggy by the time I got home. I used to love Anita's, however lately it seems like the quality of the food has gone down. I will continue to avoid them in the future and if I am craving middle eastern food, I will drive the extra distance to go to either Pita Cafe or Mr. Kabob.

I met a date here a couple years back for lunch. The parking isn't the greatest though sometimes you get lucky and can pull in right in front of the restaurant. But my date and I definitely enjoyed our meal. We shared the stuffed grape leaves which were the bomb. I loved especially that they were warm and not cold which would've totally turned me off. I ordered the mixed grill kebobs which were enjoyable especially with the bread and hummus. I came back here last year with my sister and brother-in-law and converted them into enjoying the place. My sis wasn't crazy about the grape leaves before but I convinced her to give them a try and she really enjoyed them. Will definitely come back.

For Ferndale, I give this place 4 stars. I actually went to Dearborn for some middle eastern food last weekend so coming here is a bit of a let down. This place is very nice and decently spacious. The indoor seating is a bit crowded. There is a outdoor seating area with heated lamps. Obvious barely anyone was out there yesterday. Everyone who works here are so friendly and nice. My friend and I both ordered some variation of food with falafils. They offer both fried and baked versions which I LOVE! I wasn't sure so the waitress offered to get my half of both. Actually, I felt the baked tasted just like the fried so if you are health conscious get the baked version! They also have gluten-free items! They offer complimentary pita but you have to pay $0.75 for garlic sauce! WTF! I LOVE garlic sauce and at all the Middle Eastern restaurant I have ever been to they just give it to me complimentary. Le sigh. Anyway, we had an overall good experience here. I would come back and get items I can't get at a middle eastern restaurant. Two unisex bathrooms labeled women and men. The "women" bathroom was occupied so I used the "men" Spacious and clean.

Get the Deboned Chicken dinner ($17.95). It is literally HALF A CHICKEN. Husband and I ordered one, and we had enough chicken leftovers for 3 meals! Not only is it great quantity, the spices used to marinate it are out of this world delicious! I'm still trying to figure out all the mouthwatering deliciousness after our most recent visit! The tabbouleh and hummus that accompanied it were fresh and perfectly crisp. Make sure you save room for their desserts, namely the lemon tart, sourced from Pinwheel Bakery. It is SO GOOD. Crust is crunchy and nicely buttered, and the filling is creamy and not too dense. Great tart flavor, and the light sugar icing brightens the sour undertones. Priced at $4, it is good to split if you've had a filling meal. If you're feeling super hungry, I suppose you could order one just for yourself. :) But one thing is for sure, Anita's is still serving up great fresh Middle Eastern food. We came on a Sunday evening, and it was still packed! Good times!

I called Anita's for their help arranging a platter to be delivered to my friends who recently had a death in the family. They were so wonderful. They worked within my price range and suggested a platter of schwarma, mujadra, spinach pie, hummus and pita bread...and scheduled the delivery for just a few hours after my call. I can't think of better comfort food and am very grateful for their kind service!

Anita's great every time I go. Never have more than a half hour wait. Great hummus, good schwarma, and even their smoothies are pretty good. Prices are reasonable. Vegetarians beware, my girlfriend chicken in her vegetarian dish.

Continues to impress me very tasty good service Bread pizza soup fries and of course the baklava are all excellent I am not a fan of Mediterranean food but this place is one of the few ones I will go for

Anita's is my go-to spot for Lebanese. Great patio, great service, and great food. I love their jalapeno hummus, although their pita bread is bland. Last week I had a kale quinoa salad that was a daily special, and it was fantastic. Other salads that I enjoy include their lentils, spinach & goat cheese salad, and Anita's chopped salad. Tip: order Anita's chopped salad with chicken shawarma in place of usual grilled chicken - it makes it so much better! So why not five stars? I usually end up there for lunch, and last few times it's been $13. That's for my salad and my 1/4 share of hummus. Yikes! I'd also bump Anita's up to 5 stars if they served piping hot pita bread (please!!).

  • Shantaé E.

Everytime I come to Anita's Kitchen they never disappoint. I always get the Lebanese salad and their house dressing is amazing. I've tried three dishes so far, the deboned chicken, grilled salmon and my all time favorite chicken shawarma. It's a pretty good portion considering all entrees come with rice pilaf, soup or salad, tabouli and hummus. Always enough food left over to take home and enjoy later and the prices are reasonable.

Amazing food! This is a great place, great for carry out. The owner and his wife are so nice. They have the real deal raw juices. I'm a huge fan, don't pass this place up!

What a night. There was some sort of festival going on last night in Ferndale and the neighborhood was lively as was my food! I had the Alfredo Pinot Noir, Baklava and Deboned Chicken Dinner plate (Good for two). While the price point is a little high $$ it is INCREDIBLY worth the money. I highly suggest sitting next to the window so that you can people watch in the large windows! The only reason I give them 4 Stars is because there were many many hats flying around in the restaurant and it was rather distracting. Other than that stellar service and tasty food. Thumbs up.

I liked the atmosphere, although it is a smaller restaurant. The employees were happy and positive. It is obvious when the staff is miserable, which these people were not. The food was pretty good, no complaints, and the portion size was somewhat generous. I would come back again based on my experience.

  • Andrea L.

Cute and quant little place. The atmosphere is friendly and laid back. I am only giving it three stars because this was my first visit. I ordered one item for lunch, a fattoush salad. The salad was ok. I was surprised that it did not come with lettuce. Every fattoush that I have ordered at other Mediterranean restaurants contains lettuce. I would mind trying other dishes here.

Never disappoints! This is a great place to bring people when they visit in Ferndale. Half the place is outside under a covered patio (heat lamps too). I've gotten salads, hummus, chicken, and other items, and it's all good. Servers are friendly and knowledgeable too.

When I am sick of scanning through meat-filled menu, after menu, Anita's is my safe haven. You can count on almost all of their dishes to have vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options and everything is DELICIOUS and well-prepared. They also have a full bar. The service has always been great and when things have gone wrong, they've always made up for it more than efficiently. This is a good spot for a date, dinner with the fam, or a casual night with friends.

I eat at Anita's every once in a while and it's always pretty good. The atmosphere is nice, and the hostess and servers are always very friendly. Yesterday I got the berries in Beirut smoothie, which was wonderful, and my favorite part of the meal. We started off with the hummus, which was okay. I prefer hummus with a strong roasted garlic and lemon taste. This hummus lacked both. It actually tasted very similar to something you'd buy at the grocery store. Again, not bad, but lacking flavor. I ordered the soup and sandwich combo. I got the lemon lentil soup, that came out piping hot. I like that. That's how soup is supposed to be. The texture of the lentils was perfect, and it had a nice lemony flavor. Very good soup. I also got the chicken shawarma. It was good, but again lacking key ingredients. Again, it was a mild flavor. When I eat a shawarma, I want lemony, garlicky, and a nice curry flavor. It was a bit bland. I've had it before here, and I don't remember it being so boring. It was also missing pickled turnips. I don't know how you don't put pickled turnips on a shawarma, but they don't. Anita's has decent food, and it's a pretty inexpensive meal. It won't be a staple of mine, by any means, but it'll stay in my "once in a while" rotation.

Anita's food is excellently prepared using the best ingredients to produce top quality dishes. The lentils with spinach and goat cheese is my favorite dish- possibly the best thing I've ever eaten. I daydreamed about it for a week and then I had to back and eat it again. Service is always prompt, efficient, and friendly. Anita's is consistent and wonderful, and this is my favorite Lebanese restaurant out of all of the restaurants in Michigan, Washington DC, and Manhattan.

  • Eddie F.

A Ferndale staple. Casual and friendly. Always leave with a full stomach and a smile on my face. One of my favorite Lebanese restaurants. No menu recommendations needed. Close your eyes and point at the menu. Whatever you chose, you'll enjoy.

  • Levent T.

Flavors, service and authenticity of Medi Cuisine flavors *really* lacking. Also, poor value for the price point. Dolma was extremely dry too. Tolerable but I would not go back. Judging by the reviews I know I'm in the minority but this place let me down.

The food is always good. My favorites are the hummus, fries and chicken shawarma. And they do carry-out ++

The chicken shawarma is the best!!! I just wish they made their own bread. All In all, the prices are great and the food is outstanding!

This place is unique and delicious! A great spot for a well-priced lunch in Ferndale. I usually just get a salad and a pita pizza (spinach and cheese is my favorite) and my boyfriend gets the gyro platter. Their chicken schwarmas are great too! I also really enjoy their fresh squeezed lemonade, fresh brewed mint iced tea, and their smoothies. Service is never bad but it's never been that great either. Worth a try if you're in the mood for some middle eastern food!

  • Chris A.

The black bean soup is amazingly good. In fact, I've never had a single bad experience at Anita's. My girlfriend and I live on the east side but still occasionally go to the Brew and View at the Magic Bag on the other side of Woodward, always preceded by a visit to Anita's. I would not hesitate to call this the best middle eastern restaurant in the Detroit metro area.

    (5)
  • Brando L.

When we walked in we should have trusted our instincts to turn around and walk back out, but we figured we would give it a try since the reviews were mostly positive and the ambiance was nice even if it felt wanna be chic Americana with a touch of Mediterranean flair. We had the staple Lebanese dishes - hummus, baba ghanoush, falafel, fattoush, grape leaves, and tabbouleh. All but the falafel tasted like they were purchased pre-made from who knows where or perhaps simply prepared in house with sub-par ingredients by sub-par chefs. We also took note that there was not a single customer of Middle Eastern descent dining at the restaurant - a simple litmus test that often works for ethnic cuisine.

  • Alexandra M.

Every time I've come to Anita's I've left satisfied. The staff is attentive, friendly and accommodating. The tomato florentine soup and the falafel salad are spectacular! You can tell the ingredients are fresh and the meals are prepared with care. Did I mention how affordable this place is too? This is Mediterranean on a whole other level.

  • Michael C.

The atmosphere in Anitas is very nice. Service is pleasant and the food is great. The hummus and grape leaves are my two favorite things to get here. Tastes great and nicely sized portions. Thr chicken schwarmas good use a little more garlic in my opinion.

Love going to Anita's with my family and enjoying smoothies while we wait for our food. The Shawarma is excellent every time. I recently tried the Arabian pizza which was surprising good. The lamb chops from here are fair market value, but are prepared very well.

Okay this is a very Americanized version of lebanese food. Don't get mad at me for that. I grew up with middle eastern food so i know the difference. Don't get me wrong, it is good but nothing i crave. Would much rather go to cedarland in dearborn for a fraction of the price. I have had almost everything on their menu and its all decent. They use good quality ingredients and the service is awesome. This is the closest arabic food in the area sooo try it out for yourself!

  • Alexandra K.

I've only done take out from Anita's so would like to do another review after dining in. The Mixed Mezza is the best for getting take out for a night in with a group - comes with a skewer each of Shish Kafta and Shish Tawook, Chicken Shawarma, Beef Shawarma, two each of Grape Leaves and Falafil, served with Hommus, Tabbouleh, Fattoush and Kabeese. The menu says it serves 2-4. Tons of food, good combinations and delicious. There is also a vegetarian mezza. Anita's Kitchen has something for everyone. I'm getting it tonight so thought I'd review it.

  • Emily M.

This is probably my favorite place to eat in the Ferndale/Royal Oak area. Probably the best place to get Lebanese food outside of the Dearborn area! I've been here a couple of times, and continue to have cravings to go back! I recommend one of the shwarma dishes because it includes everything! Tabouli, hummus, salad, and pita bread! Very affordable! Its a bit busy on a Saturday and Friday, but you can easily walk in any other day of the week!

  • Vail B.

This restaurant is delicious. I highly recommend the kibbe (meat). I took my parents and grandmother there, all of whom had never had this kind of food, and they all loved the kibbe. The Anita's salad is also very good. They provide a good amount of food for the money, and I will definitely be back. The one star missing is for the wait. There is a relative paucity of seating during peak times, and there will likely be a wait. Conversely, if you go on an off time, this is a 5 star establishment. Enjoy.

Delicious! Not a budget place but not far from it....I think most if not all meals under $15. Fresh, flavorful and delicious! Decor is hip and inviting, even the patio (which is climate controlled for the colder months. Bar, wine & beer available. I had the Chicken Shawarma (excellent), Hummus (excellent) and the Kabobs(very good). Service is good, food arrives quickly. Good take out or dine in! In=f your in town, this is worth the visit!

  • Nathasja T.

Dreamy, creamy hummus. Garlicky yet not overly so, toum. BAKED falafel and an outdoor patio. How much more perfect can a sunny afternoon lunch get? I will keep this review short due to the many already positive reviews for this establishment, they all pretty much speak for themselves and the quality of food and experience this place serves up. I love places with patios and Anita's is no exception, they provide superior people watching opportunities and there is just something nice about not always being confined between four walls. I have not been here when it is cold out, but I have noticed space warmers which probably means you can dine 'outside' year round. The windows are sealed and removable, which means that during warmer months you can really capitalize off of some nice sunny rays. I really cannot stress enough how happy I am to have found the option for baked falafel. My husband said it was a little mushy, whereas I thought it was a nice change of the usual deepfried crispy balls. The portions here are humongous - I am snacking on some left over hummus as we speak. A small order left the two of us with plenty of leftovers so I'd venture to guess it'll serve 3-4 people if you are in a group and sharing. There is plenty of vegetarian options here, which is a happy occurrence. Parking is on the street and metered, so come prepared with either coins or cash (they were nice enough to trade me a dollar for 4 quarters). All in all a great spot to kill some time and grub out in Ferndale.

I really, really want to like this place because it's so close to home but every time I eat here some thing happens to irk me. There are two really good things on the menu that we get for carry out pretty often, the deboned chicken and the Mediterranean salad. The good thing about, it's the only Lebanese joint around with booze, but here are some of the things that bug me about AK: The portions are tiny! I had the Shish Tawook dinner and it came with my tiny skewer of chicken, bland rice, tabouli and hummus (and no garlic sauce). They don't bake their own bread. I understand space may be tight but fresh pita bread is a must. Aside from the dishes I mentioned and the lemon lentil soup most of their food is really bland for Mid Eastern food. I go to Anita's out of sheer laziness but it does not scratch my Middle Eastern fix like Sahara, Grape Leaves or even Pita Cafe.

This place is awesome need I say more. The staff is friendly and know the answers to all your questions. The menu selection is grand. The food is the best. Man I wish there more locations.

    (5)
  • Tom N.

Shish Tawook (chicken kebob) dinner entire is $13 for 4 cubes of chicken, and the pita bread was stale. I eat Lebanese food at least once a week, and this place is substandard. Anyone giving this over 3 stars must think Lebanese food is exotic, but with dozens of great Lebanese restaurants in metro-Detroit this place is really an embarrassment to Ferndale. I live around the block and used to get carry out often, but got sick of pulling out bad pieces of lettuce from my salad, so I took a couple year break, but this last experience of getting 1/3 the food as anywhere else for the same price with half the quality will be my last visit. Almost anywhere else is better.

My first time here was with a giant group to celebrate a birthday Saturday night, and I was quite impressed with the ease of getting through our dinner, when it feels like groups can be a hassle for both the diners and the staff. We all got the meal that we ordered, and our bills were split up without much fret, although our waitress did warn us there might be the possibility of that not happening if she was busy. I guess, thankfully, she wasn't. I gorged on the Arabian pita pizza: garlic, roasted red pepper hummus, ground lamb, artichoke and roasted red peppers. They didn't skimp out on any of the ingredients -- except the lamb! The lamb was the best part too as it was extremely flavorful, but I could've definitely used way more considering it was that good. Other dinner pals had lemon lentil, which I hear is amazing, and the raw juice and smoothie looked good. Small bummer is that they don't take reservations, but at least there's a full bar to keep us occupied as we wait. We were seated in the outdoor patio, which had twinkling lights and a covering, which I always appreciate.

Awesome lamb and chicken kabobs. Love this place one of my favorite places to go eat.

  • Khanh C.

Anita's Kitchen was ok, but to be honest it was nothing spectacular. Overall I liked the lamb shank, but the garlic spread that comes with the pita was subpar. Not only have I found better elsewhere where it was commentary, but Anita's Kitchen charged me $3 for the spread! My friends had the swarma pita and liked it, but they agreed the garlic spread was meh too. Service was fine, it might be worth revisiting if they stop charging for the garlic spread. I'd rather eat at my favorite Mediterranean spot instead.

Hi everyone :) I met a friend of mine at Anita's Kitchen yesterday for lunch. It was great. It was warm and inviting great service and the food was awesome! It's a really nice place to meet for a meeting or to just hang out and have fun. Everyone was friendly and it was a great way to spend lunch with a friend on a cold snowy day. Stop in and relax have a glass of sweet wine and good conversation. There easy to fine right on Woodward in Ferndale. The manager working that day I think his name was Chris but he was awesome! it was around 2pm 2/16/ 2014. Try it! 22651 Woodward Avenue Ferndale, Mi 48220

This place is mildly ok. This isn't even a review, it's a star rating. Don't plan on returning since I'm not a total hipster whore that needs to be at these places just to feel included.

Been to Anita's once and had a great experience. The food was well prepared and at a fair price. My lamb shank was really good and I will definitely go back to try other dishes.

Out cruisin' Woodward and landed a front row parking spot in front of Anita's Kitchen. Got a front row table on the patio to watch the cars. Noshed on a variety of things off the menu and everything was perfect. Soup was so tasty. Grape leaves were delicious. Lamb shank was very flavorful and tender. Even the rice pudding was unique and hit the spot. My wife and I agree. We will be back!

I probably should disclose that I am bias. Anita's Kitchen is in walking distance from my house and I have taken advantage of that numerous times. The staff is attentive, very nice and knowledgeable. I have never had a bad experience. The same for the food. Anita's Kitchen has a nice selection and everything is well prepared. Anything with chicken is high on my list. I am not sure how 'authentic' it actually is, but food is just very good. And reasonably priced! And the menu is matched by a nice selection of beers.... and wines I've been told :) Go and enjoy a nice and relaxed time on their patio. As long as the weather allows.

  • Dominique K.

I love the food at Anita's Kitchen and the ability to sit in the "patio" dining area year-round! Heavy-duty heaters in the enclosed porch area keep it plenty warm, and I actually prefer it to the regular dining room. I'm not a chick pea fan at all, but I found that I could eat Anita's hummus...very rare for me. Lunch versions of Anita's entrees are plentiful enough to serve as dinner, and sometimes with enough left over to take home! My favorite meal? The shish tawook with one of Anita's custom-blended smoothies. The servers usually have a favorite smoothie, and I've always had a good one when I've followed their suggestions when ordering one.

How have I not yet reviewed Anitas? The food is so fresh and the atmosphere uplifting, with a great wine menu (including organic options!). Takeout is easy (though not always 100% accurate - check your order before you leave, but everything on the menu is so good, whatever you end up with will be a tasty surprise). Springs and summers welcome the lovely patio, which with the help of the greenery, helps create a little oasis right on Woodward.

Thought we would give this place another go since so many claim to just lloovvee it. Well, two strikes and your out in my book. First off, the wait is intolerable and I still do not know why some will spend so much time doing it. The spanikopita was dry, dry, dry. When I mentioned it to the server, she seemed shocked and actually took her bony finger and touched it while on my plate. "hmm, seems soft to me'. And then she stood there, almost like, well, almost like she expected me to agree and take a nice big yummy bite from the very item she just touched. That just ruined the meal and to be frank, no matter what I would have eaten after that would have been appealing to me. Sorry Anitas Kitchen, I will stick to my own kitchen before going back to yours.

  • Jimmy D.

I go to Anita's 2-3 times a week for carry outs. I have never got a bad meal from here, everything I have tried has been delicious! I have tried probably about half of the menu. The staff here at the front of the house has always been very friendly and conscientious about doing their jobs. I would have given it five stars except for one little thing... Sometimes, the kitchen is a little slow about getting orders out, making me wait past the 15 to 20 minutes stated time on carry outs, up to about a half hour, even when it is very slow inside the restaurant. This happens approximately a third of the time that I go there. The food is always consistent in quality, but sometimes the portions are a bit skimpy. Aside from these minor details, I think that this is a great place!

A true gem offering the best of middle eastern cuisine. A blend between fashionable Ferndale and community resturant. Ive never been let down with each visit. For those in neighboring communities this gem offers a taste of Lebanon. Served through culture the diversity of the menu brings you everything from fresh hommus to the warm pita bread paired with chicken shawarma. The atmosphere is pleasant, quaint, and casual. Great venue for a date or family events. The use of the canopy adds an additional seating environment winter or summer day. Dimmed lighting tones a scene of casual exchange and good conversation. A family own venue with heritage and middle eastern roots. You will not be disappointed with your experience. I enjoy your next event or dining experience at Anitas, you will not be disappointed.

Best shish kafta and schwarma sandwichs!!! Food is consistently good with generous portions. Conveniently located right off Woodward for quick pick up or dine in service. Con: garlic spread is watery and they don't serve the warm pillow puff bread. The manager (young brunette male) is rude, dismissive and NEVER greets customers before cashing out their orders (pick up).

Just visited again on Sunday night and it was outstanding! I made sure to get the Zaatar pizza (my fave) as a starter and got the Shish Tawook for my meal. I absolutely love this place. The staff is so friendly and helpful with foods I am unfamiliar with and the ambiance is the best. I brought a friend and she loved it too! Can't wait to go back! Keep making this amazing food Anita's Kitchen!! :)

I eat at Anita's a few times a year for their excellent food, portion size, and reasonable prices. However, I was there last night with friends to celebrate a birthday and was very disappointed to find out that they down sized the portions. We typically get a few Mixed meat meza platters which claims to serve 4 people. In the past, they would provide a large plate of hommous, fattoush, and tabouli, along with enough lamb and chicken to take home. Now, hommous and salads are on one plate and the portions were cut into 1/4 of what it was. Same with meat platter. Also, the lamb was over cooked and we all were disappointed in the meal.

Love love love Anita's Kitchen!!! I always have a great meal and great service whenever I'm there. Their garlic sauce is amazing and I absolutely love their house salad dressing...I wish they bottled it! The only thing that would make this place better is if they made their own pita bread.

  • Phyllis D.

The food was well-executed Lebanese fare with a wide range in appetizers, sandwiches, and entrees. The hummus had a nice lemon tartness, but the baba lacked smokiness. The service was also friendly and attentive. However, the decor and music was confused and took away from the overall ambiance. Overall, a nice experience.

  • Kelly K.

Not the biggest fan of Anita's.... The hummus is really good - super fresh and delicious, but they serve it was plain old cold pita! Not the warm, fluffy pillows that some middle eastern restaurants have made fresh on the spot. Then there's the kabobs - I ordered lamb kabobs medium and they came out WELL DONE. I'm not one to complain (especially when my waiter disappears only to return 45 minutes later with the check) so I tried to eat some of it, but it was just terrible. The rice was standard rice with almonds, nothing special. The wait staff here are just terrible. I've been twice and both times the hostess seems to have an attitude when they seat guests. Then the waiters that I've had are not attentive at all. I sat for 50% of my last meal with an empty glass of water...I finally had to ask a random busser for a refill. Being a waiter is your JOB. You're not doing me a favor by being there. If you don't like you're job, get a different one - don't punish me because you have a bad attitude! Meidocre food + crappy staff = no more Anita's for me!

I give this restaurant 3 stars simply because I am Arab and I am used to home made Arabic food. I am not a fan of Arabic restaurants. However, this place was a lot better than other Arabic restaurants that I've been to. If you like Arabic restaurants you'll probably love this place.

The only place I trust to get kibbeh nayyeh. Definitely a place to go to if you love Middle Eastern food (or really food in general).

  • Mara D.

One of the best lebanese restaurants in the Detroit area. Hands down. Everything on the menu is absolutely delicious. I don't know where to begin. Although the restaurant is small, it is definitely worth the wait. All of the wait staff is pleasant and the hostess' can work with you. Although they don't take reservations, I was still able to get a party of 18 in there on a beautiful spring day, you just have to be patient! Grab a glass of wine or a nice brew at the bar whilst waiting. When you're seated start off with an appetizer of Mujadra or hummus. The mujadra has a wonderful blend of spices on top of mix of lentils and rice and perfectly caramelized onions on top. Their lemon lentil soup is delicious. Normally, I eat their Fattoush salad with chicken breast on top, but their chicken kabob and beef kafta are also very tasty. This is also a great option if you are a vegetarian - there are plenty of options such as falafel (which can be baked, not fried!), fattoush salads, tabbouli and more! Finally, if you're looking for quick carry out, they are very accommodating! You can order the food over the phone or online and they are on top of it!

Loved the #16 smoothie. Light and perfectly balanced. Slow service but that was due to it being Mother's Day. They didn't charge me for the smoothie and apologized for the slow service, even though I didn't complain.

The atmosphere was comfortably classy. I have been to several Mediterranean Restaurants and this one had the freshest and most flavorful food I have ever had! Joel was our server. He became very busy by the end of our stay but somehow kept our waters full.

Probably my favorite place to eat in Ferndale! I've been going to Anita's since the first week they opened. I've enjoyed everything on the menu! From delicious raw juices to mouth watering lamb chops. I have never had a bad experience (I did drink too much and fall asleep in the bathroom once, my own fault). The staff is always friendly and efficient. The only thing I would change is the pita bread, after several years I've just learned not to eat it unless covered in garlic spread or kibee nye. I love this place!

I decided to try this restaurant based upon the Yelp reviews and am so glad I did. I love Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food and Anita's is definitely one of the best places I have tried. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere- clean and stylish without looking too "lounge-y" or pretentious. And I love the patio section, it's fully covered and the landscaping makes you forget you are sitting off the strip in Ferndale, MI. It seems almost like a restaurant in Europe. It had turned over occupants a few times in the years that I have lived in Ferndale. My boyfriend and I split the platter so we could try a bit of everything and there was nothing that disappointed. There were generous portions and the flavors were well balanced. The standout that I have tried are: - Tabbouleh- very citrusy/tangy taste. Fresh! -Falafels- Not overly fried and great flavor - Chicken Shawarma- perfectly seasoned. - Hummus... delicious. My only complaint was being charged extra for it. But I felt it was money well spent. The service was good as well. I will definitely be returning.

I will say up front the food was pretty good. Not the best, but certainly palatable. Let me also say, that I'm not a high maintenance customer. Take drink order, deliver drinks, take order, deliver food, check in, give check. Those are the only things I'm really looking for in service. Onto my experience at Anita's. It took the hostess over a half hour to realize the party in front of us had vacated the premises, leaving the group I was with oggling over the empty table which we would later be sat in. Right off the bat I was annoyed about this. The waiter then immediately came over, apologizing for the mixup (which wasn't his fault) and took the drink order. Then he went MIA for another 20 minutes. This isn't a big restaurant!! They weren't very busy!! So my rating of only two stars is more geared towards the service. The food I would probably give a 3 star rating to, but I don't think I'll be back to Anita's, not with the other great Mediterranean restaurants in close proximity.

I love Anita's Kitchen in Ferndale! The food is always delicious - especially the hummus. Everything I have tried has been great. I love that the meals come with hummus & tabbouli, so that I can get a taste without having to order 2 appetizer portions. The waitstaff are friendly. I love the outdoor patio, too. I was never a big fan of the Anita's in Troy (now closed) ... the Ferndale location is far superior in atmosphere and food quality.

Delicious! One of the best Middle eastern restaurants in Michigan. Their chicken sahwarmas are addicting and they go great with one of their smoothies which leave you feeling energized and refreshed. Prices are very reasonable and they have great lunch specials. I eat here about once a week, it's that good!

Yum! Anita' s is the best restaurant in Ferndale and my go-to middle eastern restaurant in Oakland county. No..they are not like the traditional restaurants in Dearborn, but that's ok cause they're still delicious! I typically get their chicken shawarma meal (lunch portion is huge!) Or the chicken feta fattoush..both are great. Their hummus is tangy and full of flavor..exactly the way it should be! I'm addicted to the lemon lentil soup and will usually add it to anything I'm ordering:) my husband sticks to the lamb kabobs and friends love the boneless chicken dinner and black bean soup. You should give it a try and ignore the lack of fresh baked bread and garlic sauce cause they're good enough without it!

Wow o wow o wow. By far, this is the best middle eastern food in the area. Everything from their smoothies to the food is ridiculously delicious. My favorite dishes there by far are the spinach pizza and chicken feta fattoush. Add wango tango smoothies and it hits the spot. The portions are also perfect. My boyfriend and I split the salad, pizza, and have two smoothies, and we still have leftovers. One of the gems of metro Detroit!

This place is so good, the best middle eastern food I have found! The mujadra's onions are crispy and flavorful - we were fighting over the last bites! I also had the roasted vegetables sandwich (whatever it is called) - the eggplant was perfectly roasted and juicy. I loved it!

After not eating at Anita's kitchen for about three years (because I thought their food was mediocre and over priced) I was talked into eating there for dinner. I was right, food is mediocre and over priced. Gyro sandwich was clearly just frozen gyro meat- and it was expensive for a sandwich from a middle eastern restaurant. Shish tawook entree was the most expensive 4 bites of over cooked chicken I've ever seen. When we inquired as to if this was the typical portion for the dinner we were told that "they actually give you more meat than any other middle eastern restaurant." It was laughable to say the least. When we told them the bread was stale they told us it was baked today and left it at that. the tomato florentine soup of the day was undercooked with raw veggies in it. By the way.... I think soup of the day means a different soup every day. This has literally been the soup every time I've eaten here or been told someone else ate there since moving to ferndale 4 years ago. My opinion is that not only is the food bad but the service is beyond terrible. Just drive to ANY of the middle Easter restaurants in a 5 mile radius for a better dining experience all around.

For almost 9 years, I lived within 10 minutes of Dearborn - so I was skeptical about a Lebanese restaurant that A. was in Ferndale, and B. named Anita's Kitchen. The name is a bit deceving - Anita's, simply put, is the BEST middle eastern restaurant I've been to, hands down. I've eaten there a ton of times, and I've never had a bad meal. Ever. Their schwarma is perfection. Their hummus, delicious. Their garlic sauce - out of this world. My absolute favorite thing on the menu is the spicy tomato kibbe appetizer - I could eat that as my meal, and be satisfied - but then I'd have no room for the glorious baba gannoush, kafta, chicken kabobs...everything there is good. The staff is really friendly and fun, and go out of their way to make sure everyone has a great meal. Simply put, Anita's is amazing.

This place is AMAZING! I'm gluten free and vegan and I eat here with no issues. I do hope that they start to offer more michigan wines (grand traverse) but other than that this place is a gem. Great service, great food (never greasy!) always clean.

The more I eat at Anita's, the less impressed I am. Their salads are quite good, but their wraps, pita bread, and chicken - leave me wanting. We are spoiled in metro Detroit with fabulous, authentic middle eastern food. Everything here seems dry to me, and lacking the flavor and "juice" that make other places stand out.

My group of four ordered the red pepper hummus, buffalo wings, pita pizza, sish tawook, sish kebob, grape leaves, and chicken shawarma. I can honestly say everything was DELICIOUS. the meat was succulent and the hummus was fresh and light. I highly recommend and can't wait to be back.

The food is pretty good and I like the atmosphere. However, they do not serve freshly baked pita like some middle eastern places in the area. If you go, try the artichoke pie, which is a delicious variation of spinach pie.

Amazing food. Amazing staff with the exception of the blonde hostess. She is so rude and a very cold person and I've experienced this my last two times here. They are the first person to greet you and they should be very energetic people. Other than that it's like my grandmothers cooking and a great atmosphere.

I really wanted to dismiss this place as an overpriced attempt at ethnic food in the suburbs, but boy was I wrong! I came in for Ferndale's first ever restaurant week and I was very pleasantly surprised. For $30, two people could eat. I went for the tomato kibbeh and baklava for $10. The kibbeh (with quinoa) was generously portioned with ample bread to sop up the good stuff. Unfortunately, the bread is the standard wimpy bread in sandwich bags that too many places offer. Also, I had to go for the baklava instead of the rice pudding that they were out of. Everything was phenomenally delicious. Considering the price and how late it was, this was awesome.

Loved it. Great service great food. I loved the raw meat dish. I can't spell it but I can spell delicious. The eggplant salad is to die for. We even got to meet Anita, she was a delightful woman.

Very good dinner. Server was good. Should have told us lamb was extra with the special. The garlic spread was awesome. Wish they had the puffy pita bread. Would have also like to see more humus flavor selections. Was a very good meal. Parking was an awful experience!! But wouldn't object if friends wanted to have dinner there again.

Anita's Kitchen is just flat out good. Plain and simple, one of the best in the area. The wait staff is always friendly, every single time I go there. I love the way they make the Fattoush with no lettuce too, that's my preferred way to eat it. Everything is fresh they are great with making suggestions if you are ever undecided.

  • J A.

Very generally, I've never been here and had a meal that wasn't stellar. They have a decent-sized patio that thanks to a high hedge feels somewhat secluded, which is key considering that it's right on woodward. Baked kibbeh is delicious but if you want a refreshing summer meal, their fattoush with shawarma is my favorite. They make their fattoush without lettuce, so it's a huge bowl of tomatoes and cucumbers in sumac dressing. Also some of the best baba gannoush I've had at any restaurant, Dearborn or otherwise. Just go!

Pretty flipping delicious. Long wait -- I mean, really long. Like an hour. So naturally, I just HAD to see what all of the fuss was about. I split the lentil, goat cheese, and spinach mezze with my friend, and then had the tomato kibbe and lentil soup for my main dish. I was thrilled with the lentil and goat cheese dish, and the lentil soup was really delicious and lemony. That said, I had been warned about Anita's and its tendency to over-season, and this was the case with the kibbe. Had they served it with labne, and some non-salt seasonings, like spices, it may have been a home run. I ended up taking the rest of it home, mixing it with the remaining lentil and goat cheese bits, and adding some Westborn Market garlic sauce. It made for a very nice left-over breakfast. I'd definitely return to Anita's, but maybe not for dinner on such a busy night. The bill was so inexpensive, I feel like I have room to experiment across the menu.

We always love the food here. The service is great and the atmosphere is nice, relaxed and effortless without going overboard. The servers are always so friendly and helpful, and our food never disappoints. I had one of the specials the other night, the Tuscan Quinoa and Kale which was spectacular. I hope it becomes a regular menu item! We'll be back soon for sure.

Decent food, had the spinach pie and the shawarma. The food was good, but the portions were small for the price and the food was not authentic enough for my taste. They have pretty decent smoothies but with so many good places to go in Ferndale I probably won't be back. The waiter was awesome though, very friendly and talkative

From the moment Pepper and I walked in we were impressed by the happy to be of service attitude. Service: 5 Stars Loved the comfortable but not roomy: cafeyish, wood, back patio feel. Environment: 4 Stars The Chicken Feta Fatoush was excellent and fresh. My wifes Grape Leaves were very good. Hommous, very good: 4.25 Stars Other: A nice variety of beer and wine. Total: 4.5 Stars (this is a hairs breadth away from a 5)

Lunch at Anita's today. Fabulous as always. Had a new dish - salmon with quinoa, roasted carrots and onions. First time I stepped out of the box. Excellent and healthy. Loved the raw juice bar today as well. Service was excellent - she was friendly and gave me great suggestions. Keep it up.

Usually the pita sandwiches are filled with meat, but tonight my beef shawarma pita was quite skimpy. However, my partner's chicken breast pita looked as if it were about to burst. I guess it was just an isolated incident, but I was very disappointed.

To successfully try a variety of their offerings and really get a flavor of each dish, I highly recommend the Mixed Mezza either meat or vegetarian. Take a one or two friends and split it. With two people, we were stuffed and both took some home. The kabobs were probably the best of the dish. They were seasoned well and had a nice chard edges for the extra flavoring. The shwarmas, chicken and beef, were both marinated well and not dried out, which is so important. So many places dry out their shwarma and it gets chewy. Anita's does a great job of have excellent cuts of meats, all seasoned and cooked well on the same platter. With so many middle eastern restaurants, there has to be something that sets them aside from other places. Their Baba Ghannouge is one of those dishes that usually tastes the same every where you go. However, there was only one place that truly made the best I've ever had outside the middle east, which was Yossi's in West Bloomfield. Since they closed, I have not been able to find anything like it. Anita's is the closest so far. It is creamy and smooth, but most importantly without that sharp tartness that most babas have.

Never could figure out what the big deal was in the old location. Can't figure out what the deal is here. Then it hit me the other night. This is Middle Eastern food for White People. The largest Arab population outside of the Middle East live in this region and you never see a Middle Eastern person here. Eating. Serving. Nothing. Why? Bland Food. They are eating the authentic stuff in Dearborn or at the gas station in Berkley, Had a fatoosh the other night. Apparently Anita's must be some regional version with 1/4 a teaspoon of dressing and HUGE chunks of green pepper in it. Green pepper?? In 30 years of eating fatoosh I had never noticed green pepper in it? Unless you like your exotic food bland, Or without any Middle Eastern people, Skip this place and head over to Dearborn. Or Berkley..

Worst meal to date from here. Not sure what's going on here, new chef, new management new something because this is the 2nd meal in a row we got that was just awful. The lamb k-bob was so over whelmed with nutmeg I just could not finish it. The tabouli was pretty bad as well. The parsley and onions just barely chopped and I like bulgur but wow! I don't think we will be returning here.

After hitting up Detroit Comics in Ferndale, my brother in law took me to Anita's Kitchen for my maiden voyage. I started with a fried kibbeh, which was a little too well done for my taste. But since this was my first time trying the dish, it might be that I just don't love the dish in general and don't want to attribute it to Anita. After that I moved on to my main dish of the chicken shawarma with rice, tabbouleh, and hummus. All I need to say about my lunch was that it was great and at $7.95 very affordable. I don't live in Michigan, so I don't know the next time I'll be able to try Anita's, but I would definitely be interested in visiting again sometime.

First of all i would like to thank you for being consistently great with your food. Every time i have come it has always tasted the same which is great. Once i find the taste and the flavor of something l like i would like to have it every single time. Service is always great and i recently ordered a carry out for a Sunday night with some friends and the food tasted just as great as it did inside the restaurant. Here are some of my favorites that you must try: Anita's Salad which is like a Cobb Salad with Grilled Chicken and Heavenly Creamy Feta Dressing. That's a to die for lunch portion is huge. Tomato Kibiee made to order all i have to say it's amazing ! Deboned Chicken is juicy and tender. Combo appetizer platter 5 stars. When i have some guests in town visiting which i often take there we order a huge combo platter they have where you get a little bit of everything for only 34.99 and you can feed a small army with that. So if you are in Ferndale and want arabic food this place is a must !

I just had the most pathetic excuse for a salad. Not only did my carryout take 25 minutes, but there was practically no lettuce in the salad. This is the second time I have gotten carryout with a very disappointing experience. I typically like Anita's food, but just because it's carry out doesn't mean you need to skimp on the food. I am paying full price just as if I were dining in, so please step up your carry out service.

This place defines comfort food. Delicious, delicious comfort food, served by a totally warm, attentive staff. My partner (who grew up in the area) and I discovered it a few months ago; we eat here once or twice every time we are back to visit his family, and everyone and everything at Anita's never fails to satisfy. On our first visit, we brought my 91 year old mother in law on a totally slammed night, and we will never forget Chris's care in making sure we were comfortable. Since then, we've been working our way through the menu, and everything has been top-notch. Our favorite local back home is a family-run Lebanese place, so we eat a lot of this stuff, and Anita's serves consistently tasty versions of all the classics, and some great signature dishes, like that amazing deboned chicken. And add to the sweet service and the tasty food ridiculously good prices: well, I think this place is hard to beat. It is exactly what it should be, and you will leave happy and well-fed.

This is very good Middle Eastern food and drink! I've had everything on the menu at least once and there is nothing bad here. The service is good but the wait for table can be a bit long at peak times. Parking can be an issue for this whole area of Ferndale. In a pinch try the big lot one block north of 9 Mile, 1 block west of Woodward.

We saw that your establishment had great reviews and wanted to give it a try. We are avid and well-seasoned travelers and love to try new places. After visiting your establishment in Ferndale on 7/19/13 (approximately 7:00pm) we can honestly say that we will NEVER come back and spread the word to our contractors/partners we do business with, employees, church community and friends about how bad management is there. While waiting for a seat for dinner, we decided to sit at the bar and have a few drinks to pass the time. We ordered an ALE on draft and a bottle of beer (to start). I don't like wheaty beers and very lightly tested the ALE that was brought to me. I immediately tasted it and knew that I would not like the beer. I ordered another beer that the bartender (very nice lady who did a great job - she worked the left-corner of the bar as you walked in) recommended, which turned out to be a much better choice (Kudos to the bartender!). After about 20 minutes, our bartender brought us the bill to close out before we were called for our table. I noticed that the bill showed three beers instead of the two that was consumed. We thought it was a mistake since the original beer that was sent back immediately. We told our bartender about it and she said she would have to talk to the manager about it. When the manager came over he said "It's company policy to keep all drinks (even a drink that a customer doesn't like) on a customer's bill, so unfortunately he couldn't remove it." We accepted what he said and told him that "We will gladly pay for all three beers, however, we will not be staying for dinner...we will also share our experience on social media." The manager immediately said that he would then "remove" the additional beer. Upon hearing that we let him know that we did not want the credit and will pay the bill (all 3 beers) as originally brought out to us. We told him "If this is company policy, then we will adhere to it, however, we will not support your business by staying for dinner or ever coming back." After paying, the bartender came back over and said the manager credited the beer and that she had a revised bill. We declined to pay the lesser bill and proceeded to leave. Ironically, the hostess came over shortly to let us know our table for dinner was ready, however we told her to remove us from the list since we no longer wanted to stay there. We paid our bill, tipped our bartender (since she did a great job) and left. To the owner of Anita's Kitchen: You should train your manager (especially when inexperienced as he was) that customer service is key. When we go out, we always spend a minimum of $75 and tip well (since we're used of Seattle prices). That $0.97 beer (your hard cost) cost your company at least $75 for that night and future spendings from us and the people we are affiliated with. The silver lining in this is that we found a great Thai place (May's Bangkok Express) that we thoroughly enjoyed after being disappointed by your establishment. May's Bangkok Express is 1.5 blocks north, left on Nine Mile, 1.5 more blocks and is on the right-hand-side!

I wish we had an Anita's Kitchen in my sleepy little town. Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice town, but I guess a guy can't have everything. Anita's Kitchen has a nice clean modern look to it. We sat outside on the outdoor patio during one lazy summer afternoon. The hummus, served with little pita wedges, was terrific as an appetizer. I highly recommend it. My main meal was a Greek salad and that was terrific as well. I had no complaints. Zip. Nada. None.

Courteous, delicious, and way heather than most options out there. After working in Dearborn a couple years, I'm experienced with Middle Eastern/Mediterranean cuisine. If you've never had it, then Anita's Kitchen is a great place to try it the first time because it's the best it gets. Atmosphere: Easy, breezy, casual. Cute lights on the patio reminiscent of Olive Garden. The is seating when waiting for your table, long benches in the enclosed patio. At first it seems torturous to watch others eat while you are starving, but it's better people watching than just being huddled at the entrance like most restaurants. The staff is super-friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to please. The salad that comes with the entree is already pre-made or something like that, so though I requested no tomatoes, she said she'd try her best to pick them out with the tongs. Upon delivery of the salad, I noticed a few tomatoes, no big deal. She came back a few minutes later, VERY apologetic that she forgot my no tomatoes request, and brought me a brand new salad, tomato-free. BEST SERVICE of any restaurant in Ferndale! The food is deliciously fresh. Ordered the chicken shawarma, which came with rice, taboulli, and hummus. The chicken is incredibly flavorful and moist. Everything on the platter works so well together. You also get a basket of pita, which has a yummy hint of garlic to it. My friend had the chicken feta fattoush and had enough to take home. For dessert they have many options to please everyone. We decided on the lemon tart, which was the perfect compliment to our meal. You can taste the butter in the crust, which makes it taste homemade (not sure if it is or not). If you want to be full, healthier, and be attended to awesomely, Anita's Kitchen can't be beat.

Great food and atmosphere. We love the food here, and for the most part service is always very good as well. The lunch special, is quite unbeatable, highly recommend everything - but specifically the chicken Schworm, the lentil soup, or the for fatuch salad.

My family and I were frequent diners at Anita's Kitchen at Maple and Rochester Rd. We are delighted that Anita's good food is now available in Ferndale. My husband and I had the baked kibbee lunch yesterday. Warm flat bread accompanied tender lamb patties with sides of hummus and tabbouleh. Comfort food for those craving Lebanese fare. We will be back. The staff is friendly and helpful. There is a wine and beer selection. Our fellow diners had large sandwiches wrapped in flat bread. I can't wait to taste the other menu items.

I have been here twice for lunch--takeout--and I like this place. It looks nice, and the people working were very nice. I got smiles and conversation. I ordered around 11:45, and my food was ready by 12 pm. The food is good. I like going there because I'm a vegetarian and they have plenty of dishes for me to choose from...but for some reason, the Taurus in me doesn't like change, and I always get the falafel pita and a piece of spinach pie. Pretty darn good. I have nothing to compare it to, but it is very enjoyable. Since I don't eat fast food like McDonald's or Wendy's since I'm a vegetarian, I used to go to various Coney Islands for veggie omelets, pitas, and pancakes, but I now go to Anita's when I decide to order out. If you go, you'll probably like it.

Great food and great ambiance. Seems like a nice place to get food with a bunch of friends or go on a date and hang out at the bar. I tried the Lamb Chops, and those were pretty yummy. Really enjoyed the salad and pita bread they served with it. I also especially liked their smoothie options where you can mix any kinds of exotic fruits. Definitely will be back.

I love Anita's Kitchen, the owners are a cute friendly couple who always has time to chat and express appreciation for you visit. As for the food, great portions, seasoned perfectly and best of all, the price is affordable. The staff is really a stem from the owners, as soon as you walk in you are greeted with a smile. The lemonade is the best but drink slow... only one refill! Overall the place gets an A! My girlfriends and I always grab a booth and chat it up for a while there! The atmosphere is really nice.

This place is quite a gem. I always wondered what type of food they served and then looked them up and to my surprise it was exactly what I had been hoping it was! I love the fact that they offer online ordering so I can place my order ahead of time and pick it up once it's ready. I decided to try the falafel salad and greek salad for my first go around and holy crap the food was GREAT!!! I got the falafel fried and it was really good. I've been to places where the falafel almost tasted burned, but not here... they know what they are doing. The second time I went there I got this vegetarian combo which had babba, hommous and falafel. I decided to try it baked and it was even better than the fried! Everyone I have encountered there is super friendly as well. I'm hoping to have a sit down meal there some time soon but if not I know that take-out is super convenient.

Anita's is very different from any other Mediterranean restaurant I have ever been to. The decor and atmosphere is very trendy and hip, I guess. It clearly caters to the community that is Fashionable Ferndale. I liked it. I don't really care how trendy it is, but I liked that it wasn't like every other family restaurant I've been to. Our waitress was decent. She definitely wouldn't win Personality of the Year award, but she was attentive and efficient. We got a kick out of all of the sayings on their t-shirts. I think our favorite was "Who's your Baba?" and "taWOOK there it is!" We ordered the Hummous Hashweh, which was different from our typical plain hummous order. It was delicious! I loved the flavor of the ground lamb along with their hummous. It would be great if the pita wasn't the same that I can buy in the grocery store, but that seems more common than the fresh pita. It was okay. I ordered the Chicken Feta Fattoush. So....I was thinking there would be some lettuce. Nope. It was all cucumbers, chicken, tomato, a little crumbled feta and parsley, along with the dressing. The reason why I listed cucumbers before anything else is because it was mostly cucumbers. I like them, but not that much. The chicken was tasty though. The husband ordered his usual, Shish Tawook. Even though it was good, it was very plain. It tasted like grilled chicken on a skewer. (I tried it.) The rice was decent as well, and came with hummous, which is always a bonus for him. Anita's is definitely a cool spot for Ferndale, and clearly people love it. We got there at 9pm, and the place was busy. I'm sure we'll be back.

This place is a little bit over priced as far as the entrees go, and and the food is only okay. It's not bad, but Pita Cafe in Birmingham is better, and I've heard great things about Sahara in Oak Park. The food is not horrible by any means, it's just not the best place to eat Middle Eastern. And I don't know if it's a Lebanese Fattoush - but it's not like any Fattoush I've ever had - it's more like a cucumber salad. The lemon lentil soup is VERY lemony. The falafel sandwhich is okay, which is all I ever get usually. The wine is good AND cheap!

Anita's Kitchen holds a very special place in my heart as the site of the first date between my beau and I, so a certain sentimentality is going to colour this review no matter what. Bias established, let's roll on. Teetering on the edge of Woodward near Nine Mile in Ferndale, this spacious, airy oasis thwarts the traffic and noise sometimes found on the busy corner behind walls of plants and a gorgeous patio wreathed in faerie lights for an intimate experience. Though pleasant at any hour, try to come after dark but mind the early closing hours (9 PM? For shame, I would knock a star off for that except it really does earn 4). Slick and attractive, the interior forgoes kitsch like palm prints or faded photographs of Middle Eastern landscapes in favour of something much more modern and updated. The menu is carefully edited Lebanese cuisine with a fixation upon fresh, and just as much in blending the traditional with a diner's personal preferences. Substitute different meats and arrange the spiciness to your liking without fear here. Our server kindly pointed out different options as this was my first trip to the restaurant, and described the various levels of heat or flavouring when I was uncertain about something. I was not disappointed in the least in the menu, given an abundance of lentil and rice dishes, shawarma (a definite favourite), and platters giving the best of both worlds when an indecisive diner such as myself wanted a little of everything. Now if only Christmas dinner was this easy. I received a hearty sampling with one of the mixed mezza platers; in fact, it was more than I could eat. The yogurt was creamy and fresh, just the right spark to compliment the earthy lentils and the fluffy, decadent bread that was just about devoured in a heartbeat. The hummus and tabbouleh were fragrant and flavourful, just the way I hoped for. Middle Eastern cuisine, especially Lebanese, outright excels in heightening flavours without smothering them when done properly. Anita's definitely has a fine hand for that. The grape leaves were completely gone the instant I saw them, and that was hardly the first portion of the meal. In the end, I couldn't possibly finish the mezza even with my beau's assistance. We were both completely full, and sighing with contentment at the delicious morsels that passed our lips. We went for dinner and I have not tried the lunch yet, but we were utterly enchanted with the place. Sit on the patio if you can possibly, make a reservation, and let the server know in advance if you have any special occasion (date, birthday, anniversary). They really do go out of their way to provide great service in general, and I give them applause for providing an authentic, generous atmosphere with vibrant, superb food. Fellow Ferndalers, and friends in surrounding areas, you simply have to come to this gem.

I had dined here in the past and things were fine, but not the last time. I had a friend from out of town visiting and had taken him to Anita's for dinner. I'll keep this short... There were little bits of rock or dirt in the tabbouleh salad. I felt the crunch myself, but my friend chipped his tooth. Obviously we stopped eating the food right then and there. The server went back to talk to the manager a couple times and then offered us a free desert. We declined stating we were paranoid about eating the food already in front of us. We thought it rather strange and even rude that the manager didn't even bother to come out. I suggest you go anywhere but there if you want to keep your teeth.

Anita's is one of the best spots in Ferndale. I'm a big fan of Lebanese food in general, and Anita's certainly does it right. My favorite thing about this place is they make their fattoush salads in the traditional way - no lettuce, but just big chunks of chopped up cucumber, pepper, and tomato tossed with a light, flavorful dressing and the perfect amount of crisp pita chips. It's even more heavenly when you add schwarma chicken and feta cheese on top. I could eat this every day. The prices are right. The service is usually pretty good (I won't elaborate on why I say "usually" - I think the questionable server I had was just new and nervous, but he meant well). The menu is fresh, (generally) healthy, and definitely veggie/vegan friendly if you're into that. If I lived in Ferndale, Anita's would be a regular stop for sure.

Just yuck.... I don't know if the chef was having a bad day or if I ordered the wrong thing but lunch was so disappointing and EXPENSIVE! I was craving Middle Eastern and went with my standard: mujadra sandwich and fatoush, how bad can it be? Answer: extremely. The mujadra was mushy and tasted like it had been reheated in a microwave. The fatoush salad was NOT a fatoush. It was a mixture of cucumbers and green bell peppers with the occasional tomato popping up and a very watery dressing. To top it all of there was one sad dried piece of pita on top. The atmosphere was lovely, we sat outside and enjoyed a summer storm. However I feel that it is not conducive to the wait staff who either 1. ignored us or 2. gave us an attitude. Furthermore, to serve food from inside the restaurant to outside, the food runners and waitstaff needed to kick open a door which was extremely disruptive to the diners. So sad and so disappointing.

I usually go veg here, so I was true to form today. Hummus to start, with the mujadara wrap as the main course. The food is full of flavor, the service is good, and the setting is trendier than most Middle Eastern restaurants in the area.

Oh, deliciousness. Anita's kitchen is one of my favorite places for lunch or dinner. They have tons of vegetarian entrees, which I always consider a bonus. Plus, I almost always feel like I've had a healthy meal, even if the amount of food that I've just consumed might indicate otherwise. I regularly consume more cucumber, green peppers, and tomatoes during one visit here than I do during the rest of the month. Pre-gaming with veggies is legitimate, right? They have an outdoor seating area that they heat during the winter, which somehow makes it feel like great place for a romantic-ish date night. During the summer, the outdoor area stays cool, even when it's boiling hot outside...they must have some sort of magic to make both their climate control and their food fantastic.

Anita's is delicious. Hands down! It's nestled in the heart of downtown Ferndale and it's an awesome place to go if you enjoy middle eastern food. Actually, if you're not too fond of it, you should go here anyway, I'm sure you'll change your mind. If there's ever a wait, and usually it's not too bad, there's a bar with awesome beer and great wine selection. If you're out of luck at the bar, there's even an outdoor waiting area (next to the outdoor dining room), with heaters and benches to pass the time. The hummus is delicious, salads are fresh and tasty, and the schwarma is to die for. The food comes quickly and the portions are generous so you definitely fill up quickly if you don't pace yourself. You'll read a lot of yelpers talk about the garlic sauce because it's devine, too. A great place to go for a date (bring a mint) or to eat/drink with friends. Comfortable atmosphere with all kinds of people. Parking is easy and enjoying it is effortless.

I wanted to see what all the fuss was about this place was always packed, I tried the chicken sharwarma sandwich and it was actually pretty good, the chicken was seasoned really well. Friendly service, clean and bright atmosphere!

I always order a beef kabob sandwich and it's insanely good. The meat is always big, tender and juicy. They're speedy with the carry out and everyone in there is pleasant. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice and relaxing too.

I've been to Anita's multiple times since it opened, most recently for a girls night out. Anita's atmosphere makes it a perfect date night or girls night- and the wait for a table even on a rainy night made it evident that many people feel the same way. I love middle eastern food, but many of the local establishments might serve up some delicious eats but in a ho-hum setting. Anita's scores high in both categories for me. I also really enjoy being able to have a glass of wine or a beer with my meal - gold star for Anita's Kitchen. :) I've had a number of their different starters. The Combo Platter is hommus, tabbouleh, baba ghannouge and fattoush served with cut pita. They do each of these well, and the bread is functional even though it's not phenomenal. In retrospect, I feel silly for ordering the combo platter when many of the entrees come with some of these on the side anyhow! I've also had the falafil, the fatayer and the lentils, spinach and goat cheese. They are all pretty good... with the fatayer probably being my favorite (it's a trio of cheese, spinach and meat pies). All entrees come with soup - the lemon lentil and black bean both rate high in my book. Simple flavors, perfectly seasoned. I'm sometimes scared to eat out of my comfort zone- so I've stuck mainly to chicken dishes at Anita's. The chicken schawarma and the shish tawook are both good - the schawarma is a huge pile of moist seasoned chicken, while the shish tawook is one kabob with large chunks of moist white meat chicken. I've also had the falafil platter - which I tried baked - It was good, but after a giant appetizer and soup, I barely had half of my dinner. The sandwiches are a bargain at less than $5 and would be a great way to try to expand my horizons if I ever get so daring. I've never had anything but a good experience with the service at Anita's... and when I want to go out and have a sit-down middle eastern meal, this is my go-to place.

Anita's Kitchen is a good restaurant with a good atmosphere and friendly staff. They wear quirky black t-shirts with funny quotes. They have a great outdoor seating area that more than doubles the size of their establishment, and with the electric heaters and plastic windows, it can stay warm even on colder days. The lighting is very nice. Thee place seems to be busy quite a lot, probably because it ranks right up there with some of the best joints in Ferndale. It's a lively rather than intimate atmosphere. The food is decent Middle Eastern fare, with prices comparable to most of the Middle Eastern restaurants in the area. I recommend either the shwarma or shish kafta. Many of the meals come with a choice of soup or salad and hummus. Their lemon lentil soup is just fantastic. They have veggie plates, and sandwich wraps too if you want something a little bit cheaper (try under $5). It may not always have that "authentic" feel that you might find in many Dearborn restaurants, but it has that hipster quirkiness that makes it that much more fun. It is a warm and inviting place, and the wait staff treat everyone with great care. It's enough to make me a regular, and not just because it's so close to home. Definitely worth checking out!

Anita's Kitchen is right around the corner from us, and was the first restaurant we went to when we moved here. We usually get the Veggie Mezza that has baba ganuj, hummus, tabbouleh, labneh, tahini, grape leaves, pickled veggies, fattoush, and falafal - sometimes a zaatar pizza or some lentil soup. The portions are great - the veggie mezza feeds 2-4 people - but we can put it all away, just the two of us. The hummus is really(!) good, I wish we could get more of that and on occasion we order a appetizer of it. It can get kind of pricy - we usually pay around $40 for our meal, not including drinks. Tonight we had zaatar pizza, veggie mezza and side of falafal for $40 and change. The atmosphere there is also good to eat in, and can be romantic. It can get kind of busy on a Friday or Saturday, so you may have to wait. Their menu is online, and you can order from their web page and pickup. In the winter, they have their outdoor seating heated, and it is quite cozy. We have eaten there in a snow and wind storm. The service is spotty - sometimes great, sometimes abysmal. That is the only reason it doesn't get 5 stars. But the food is worth it!

  • Mary B.

Got carry out that was so good I went back the next night to eat in with the mezza. Amazing. A great place to take baby, we don't eat dairy. The pickles are out of this world, and unique to other mid east restaurants. Had veggie mezza another visit and also great. Fattoush is lacking in my opinion. Just bland and when tomatoes not in season, I'd avoid it. Tabbouleh a better choice.

I hadn't eaten at Anita's in years - the one in Troy - and moved out of Ferndale right before this place opened. I finally got to try out the "new" Anita's with my parents with my birthday. It was a Saturday and we sat outside and it was awesome. We ordered the starter combo which got eaten in a flash - plus I always ask for the Toumeh (garlic sauce) too! And for once I actually got a BIG container of it and not just those tiny ones! It's true that the bread isn't as good as what used to be La Shish and is now Palm Palace (or at least several of them), but the stuff you dip it in is divine! My parents both enjoyed their shawarma platters - one had chicken and one had beef. I had the gyros platter and loved it.

First off, the wait was too long - we waited almost 10 minutes before the host even came over to take our names. Then, it was another half an hour after that before we got our table, and the host really couldn't give us an idea of how long it would be. Can't complain about the meal. I enjoyed the wine that I ordered, although my boyfriend ordered one thing, but got something entirely different. The salmon that I got was cooked very well, but I wasn't too crazy about the tzatziki sauce that was on top. I should have ordered it on the side, but the huge "no substitutes" on the top of each page of the menu kind of made me nervous about making any special requests. The lentil soup is really delicious though. Overall, a good place to go for food Mediterranean good. Nothing too special, though.

A cute little place with super friendly staff and great food. I've been coming to Anita's for a few years now and have never been disappointed. The hummus and the chicken schawarma are both delicious, as are the grape leaves. The baklava is also great (but a small portion, for the price). One of the things that sets Anita's apart, however, is the friendly, charismatic and knowledgeable staff - it's a busy restaurant, so sometimes there is a bit of a wait. But the staff always makes sure that you know you haven't been forgotten, and they are on point with their knowledge of the menu. This is a good place to bring a casual date, to meet with friends, or to take a client for lunch.

I had no idea this place existed until a coworker arranged for a luncheon and Anita's catered. I found myself blabbing about our project and pausing... 'What the hell is in my mouth?!" (Easy pervs...) Since that day I have made Anita's a payday lunch ritual... anddd sometimes in between. Don't judge me. I've only stuck to my guns and gotten the chicken breast plate. It includes: a HUGE chicken breast, rice pilaf, tabbouleh, hummus, and a STACK of pita bread... all for the low price of $7.95!!! That is a deal!! I want to try everything on this menu, but as I'm trying to watch my weight I stick with the delicious chicken breast lunch plate. Anita's is a definite must try if you'd like a quick, healthy, fresh, cheap, and fucking delicious meal. Apparently they haven't been around long, but if they keep doing what they're doing they are going to be highly successful. Well done Anita's. **If you get takeout, DO NOT reach for the gum in the bowl, you will be sorry you popped that sucker in your mouth. UNLESS you have a thing for gnawing on pine trees, then you might find this gum quite delectable.

Awful service. Impossible to go for the lunch hour, you practically have to direct the staff to get anywhere. Food has gone downhill. I can get much better Mediterranean elsewhere with actually good service.

In case you are a (raw) vegan, you may find this review helpful. My family and I went out to eat on a day we were particularly hungry. For someone who grew up eating arabic food (and is Arab), the food was quite good. The smoothies are always a healthy, good tasting option. That is hard to go wrong with. The food, though. Among a great number of items we ordered, the Tabbouli was uniquely fantastic. Perhaps Anita's does not have the arabic powerhouse skills at making Tabbouli like Grape Leaves, but this salad was ACTUALLY juicy (better than Pita Cafe!). As with any arab, there must be a lot of lemon. We ordered Fattoush, and it was a little odd at first. For example, there was no lettuce. In my family, we grew up with Romaine in our Fattoush, so maybe we are just weird. But the spices and oils quickly made up for any temporary deficit. This salad was delicious. The hommous, as always, needs a bit of olive oil and lemon. That did not irritate me in the least though. The service is GREAT and QUICK. The staff is very friendly, fairly knowledgable, and warm. My subsequent experiences at this restaurant closely mimicked the first, so no need to go on. Bottom line, Anita's is great and caters to any number of dietary restrictions for those concerned.

I've been here quite a few times because of proximity hoping that it's going to get better but it just never does. I got one of the pizzas (can't remember the exact name of it) but it has a yogurt sauce on it and zataar. I couldn't even eat it. The thing was drenched in yogurt sauce! It was terrible. The fattoush isn't what you'd find at other lebanese restaurants. There are chunks of tomato, onion and cuc tossed in the dressing (no lettuce) so you can really only eat one piece at a time which in my opinion kind of defeats the purpose of a salad. I decided another time to try a different pita pizza - spinach and cheese. It was also terrible. It was covered in chopped frozen spinach and about a brick of mozzarella. Thought there was supposed to be feta on it but I didn't see any. Some things are fine, flalafel and tabouli but not stand out and not worth the price. One of my pet peeves is when food isn't made the way the person making it would want to eat it and that about sums up the experience at Anita's. Going from eating at places like LaShish and Pita Cafe I guess Anita's never stood a chance.

Anita's is always a solid choice when you're in the mood for Mediterranean. I've never gotten a meal I didn't like, the wait staff has always been kind and accommodating, and the atmosphere is very nice. The soups are delicious, the sandwiches don't disappoint (may I recommend the baked felafel), and the entrees are always satisfying (and huge! more than enough to split between two people). The only downside is it can get very crowded, so expect a wait at peak times of the week. But really, that just means they're doing something right and their customers keep coming back for more. I know I will.

Oh the soup!! how I love every last bite of all the soups they have at Anita's. The black bean is my fav by far!! SOOOOOOOO good! The eggplant lasagna was one of the specials when we went so of course I had to try it!! HOLY YUMMY EGGPLANT GOODNESS!! It came with rice and tabouli!! All so fresh and just to die for. Not to mention the fresh Cantaloupe and Mint smoothie I got! Ive tried so many thigns at Anita's and never ever been let down. I mainly will head there for lunch. Oh and in the summer they have a super fab patio. Love the location it's in a great spot for walking downtown Ferndale and all the food you just scarfed down of course!! This will remain a check point on my map for sure! The service is friendly and quick as well. Looking forward to my next meal at Anita's!

Probably the healthiest place to eat in Ferndale. Has a nice decor and open-air patio. The servers are always friendly and prompt. My favorite entree to split is the Deboned Chicken. It is a lot of food for the price and is more moist than the chicken shawarma. Not be fooled, this is no East Dearborn Arabic food. However, it does provide a good product and atmosphere. There are always decent wines to be drank and soup to be slurped. Highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the Ferndale/Royal Oak area.

Anita's was pretty good, I was not blown away, but I will be back. The ambience and decor is nice, and it was pretty good Lebanese Food. We were here for lunch, I had a shish kabob and my husband had the gyro, prices for lunch are cheaper, it was $8.95 each, so this place might be too pricey for me for dinner. But for a nice lunch with a patio on a nice day, why not. They have raw juices for $3.95, I tried one and it was pretty good, like everything else here. The hummus did not Wow me, but it was very good upscale, cool vibe of a place.

We usually order carry- out, so we never have to wait. They have easy online ordering. Love the vegetarian grape leaves and Anita's roasted wrap. You can also get vegan brownies made by pinwheel bakery for dessert.

I grew up in Ferndale and have been spoiled with great humus and shwarma. I moved to Arizona and have shwarma withdraw. I tried a 12 step chicken program that never worked. So when I come home to visit I ALWAYS go to Anitas. Chicken shwarma plate with humus AND a chicken shwarma sandwhich to go. Then before my flight I get one for the plane ride. You can imagine my disappointment the time I forgot my sandwhich in my carry on bag for 2 days. LOL Thanks Anitas!! Oh I will be in a bit later today save me a spot.

So good so fresh one of the best mid eastern food on the east side. Nice room and wonderful outdoor seating as well. You won't get a bad meal and good service is standard. My personal favorite is the lamb and green beans. The salad are big and fresh. Go get some great food.

"Restaurant Purgatory" is how I'd describe Anita's. Beef shawarma was neither heaven nor hell, occupying that realm of culinary uncertainty between two crass extremes.

As the 78th reviewer of this place, I'm apparently late to the party. But the food was so good that I still wanted to review! Unlike a lot of people that reviewed, I actually like the bread they give with hummus. Of course I like the fluffy pita bread that some places give you too, but the bread at Anita's is good as well. And I'm pretty sure it has like 80% less calories than some of those pita breads. Anyway, I thought the hummus was really good, and now that I've tried it, I'm kind of scared to have it so close to my house as I can see myself stopping on my way home from work just to get a carry out every couple of days. We also got a huge bowl of the garlic sauce, which I could not stop eating. Pretty sure I smelled like garlic for 2 days, but it was worth it for sure. I decided to try the shish tawook for my meal, and I can't complain at all. The chicken was tender and seasoned well. Even better that it was still great when I warmed up the leftovers the next morning. Would give it 5 stars, but they wouldn't take a reservation for 8 of us. Then when we got there, they made us wait for 5 people in the party to get there before they sat us. They told us to sit at the bar while we waited, but there were only 2 seats open, so we were in the way of every server that was working. It's not like there was no where for them to sit us, all but two of the tables in the indoor restaurant were open. I don't understand why they make you wait when the entire restaurant is open. Also didn't have the greatest service, but it wasn't completely awful.

How Anita's doesn't have five stars boggles the mind. I stumbled upon the restaurant while looking at a house in the area and since then it's been love - for both the restaurant and the house. What's to love: 1.) The food. The food. The food. Best chicken schwarma EVER - I grab the sandwich for lunch or full dinner for, well, dinner. 2.) Super friendly staff. I'll hang out for half the afternoon working (free wi-fi!) and they're completely amenable. 3.) The molasses cookie & lemon tart are to-die for. 4.) I listed moderately priced but it's really more cheap, esp. for lunch. 5.) The schrawma reheats really well - simply divine after the flavors soak together even more. 6.) Best patio in Ferndale, if you ask me. Other note: The red peper humus is better than the regular, imo. (Which, what are any of my yelp opinions if not, 'imo.' :-)

I didn't know what to expect at Anita's. I'm not a person who needs to eat at "trendy" places, but i do love middle eastern food. We ate on Friday night about 9. No wait. In a nutshell, my dinner was absolutely delicious. We ordered a small baba for an appetizer and it was plenty for the 3 of us. My chicken Shawarma was perfectly cooked. loved the salad dressing. Loved having hummus and tabouli included on my plate. My rice was simple, but good. There was easily enough food to have some home, but we had other plans for the evening, so I nibbled and nibbled on my plate until I finally had to have the waiter take it away. Our waiter was great. Friendly. Nice. Knew the menu and answered glutten free questions. We ordered drinks, and he didn't rush us on a Friday night.

First, I have to say this is one of my favorite area restaurants. My boyfriend and I eat here somewhat regularly and always enjoy good service and yummy, fresh food. But this time, I have a criticism. One of those things that can really turn you off of a place. I ordered the beef kabob entree which comes with hummus, rice and tabbouleh. Looking to cut down on the carbs, I asked to skip the hummus, rice and tabbouleh and substitute a side of grilled veggies and garlic sauce. I was quite surprised when the bill came. I was charged $3.50 for the veggies and another $.75 for a small side of garlic sauce. In other words, if I had not added the veggies and sauce, Anita's apparently would have been perfectly comfortable charging me $13 for a bare plate with one, sad, lonely kabob on it. You'd think the veggies would have been an even swap for their typically generous servings of hummus, rice and tabbouleh. It's that kind of thing that can make you feel ripped off. Next time, I will think twice about asking to substitute anything and will clarify the cost first. Not something I expected to have to do at Anita's.

I think I would give Anita's more than 5 stars if I could! I could eat here a few times a week and never get sick of it. Their food is consistently good every time. I pretty much get the same things most of the time, because they are too good to pass up. The chicken feta fattoush is by far my favorite item at Anita's. It has cucumber, green pepper, tomato, feta, and chicken shwarma on top, no lettuce. The fattoush dressing is what makes it though, tart and tangy and packed with sumac! YUM!! I could probably drink it...It is really nice how generous they are with the chicken on the salads. It seems like they put a whole entree portion on top of the salad which makes it last for 2 or 3 meals for me. Definitely worth the money. I also like their pitas a lot. They are nice and cheap at $4 or $5 per pita and they are big. The mint iced tea is unbelievable! The best iced tea around for sure. For a good appetizer, try the hummous with hashweh. It has ground lamb with spices and almonds on top, realllly good! All of the servers at Anita's are wonderful as well, super friendly and knowledgeable. I just love everything about Anita's really...just got there, now! I don't know a single person who doesn't love it!

I don't normally seek out Middle Eastern food, although, having lived in Metro Detroit for the first 30 years of my life I've eaten it quite a bit. That being said, I don't dislike Middle Eastern food, but for me, the only experiences that stick out are the bad. There's nothing at all bad about Anita's Kitchen. The food was fine. The service and atmosphere at Anita's Kitchen are very nice, and the outdoor seating on the patio is excellent. As Anita's Kitchen is directly on Woodward, it's nice that the patio is on the side of the building where the street noise isn't too bad. Parking is often an issue in Ferndale. Since Anita's Kitchen is located next to the post office, there is plenty of parking in the lot behind the post office. For fans of Middle Eastern food, I would recommend Anita's Kitchen.

I love this place. Fatoosh salad is great...you know I have spent so much money at this place I just wish they would be more consistent on their carry out orders. Sometimes I get enough bread sometimes I dont. Somtimes I order some lubnee sp? and it comes in the different size containers same with the hummus... prefer the owner to pack my carry out order shes the best...gosh i sound like such a picky Bit*h

Love love love that they have Founder's and New Holland Beer on tap here ! I am still loyal to Anita's Kitchen on Coolidge in Troy, but this expanded location and ambiance is just what they needed ! I will be coming here whenever I am in Ferndale, same good quality food and service as their other locations, but much more upscale, serving alcohol and full juice bar and lots of nice seating indoor and OUTDOOR !

Excellent Lebanese style middle eastern food. Love the Kibbe Naye - they vary the spiciness based upon your taste. Fattoush and Hummus are very good as well. Laura (my wife) loved her tabbouleh salad and lentil soup dishes. Only drawback is that the beer list is pretty limited (only 3 on draft).

I love this place--particularly the roasted vegetable wrap. This wrap is desert island food. My five star rating is based solely the wrap. I've also had the lentil soup which is lemony and delicious. This is a great place to get dinner and a glass of wine for around $10 (wrap + $4 glass of wine!). The atmosphere is interesting. The crowd during a busy evening is reminiscent of the dinner party scene in the movie Adaptation. Remember that? Kind of a lot of douchey looking men.

Amazing. Simply amazing!! I went here tonight for dinner, and was blown away by how awesome everything was, from the cucumber yogurt salad my husband and I shared, to the lamb shish kabobs I ordered, which came with hummus, rice pilaf, tabbouleh, fresh pita bread & choice of soup. Service was prompt and friendly. Everything we ordered was reasonably priced, especially the baklava, which was a steal for $1.25! This place is especially great in the summertime, as it has a large outdoor seating area.

This place is the bomb dot com. I got the beef shawarma and was in mediterranean heaven. The tabbouleh was delish, hummus to die for. Eat here if you're anywhere near Ferndale. Then go see a show at Go Comedy down 9 mile. Best Saturday night ever. The ONLY downside is that since they don't do reservations, they won't seat a large group until the entire party is present.

this place can get busy, but for good reason. Anita's Kitchen is probably the best place to dine in Ferndale. Good food, moderately priced, great decor ( the patio is great), and the staff is very friendly. If you don't like to wait, you can even order online.

the food was quite mediocre. i might have higher standards as an unassumingly pretentious foodie, but i've yet to have a real, holy-shit-next time-i'm-wearing-an-elastic-waistband meal since i've moved out here. i just kind of expected more. of course, i should've known i couldn't have depended on some bomb ass middle eastern/mediterranean food when the restaurant is too focused on their interior design. here's the secret -- eat ethnic food where ethnic people eat! but now if i saw an afghani/pakastani cave with a sign that said "food" on it; it'd be on like flynn. yes, i'm trying to take flynn out more often. so i'm never going to anita's again. mediocre food has got no rhythm. nice furniture's easy to pretend but don't go here for the food. in all honesty, i'd rather enter a public restroom with george michael masturbating than a kitchen that's possessed by a woman named anita.

I would have to agree with another fellow Yelper, this place is pricey and the lamb sandwich was disgusting. I, too, believed they could not possibly mess up a sandwich, but they did. The lamb tasted like I was chewing on a tough piece of unseasoned meat, with no filler -pickle,tomato, etc. - to help my eating experience along the way. The lemon lentil soup should be called lemon soup- waaaaay too much lemon. The main dish I ordered was served with a parsley salad that I loathe and I could not substitue. You are paying for the cute restaurant and the trendy location , and you are still paying too much!

The food and the atmosphere is wonderful. The servers and great and Jennifer (I think the owner's daughter) is the beyond sweet. They have a pretty good wine selection...gotta try their Lebanese wine. Falafel is fantastic as is the Shish Tawwok. The shish kebob is a tad dry tho. Tabbouleh and hommus is really good. You'll love the overall feel of this place and it's a great spot to meet friends.

I used to hit up Anita's Kitchen back in the day when it was located on Orchard Lake Road. When I saw one pop up in Ferndale I knew I had to check it out...and I am so glad I did! Anita's has now been added to my list of favorite restaurants around Detroit. The atmosphere is so cute and modern and there is a great patio for dining alfresco. The waitstaff is super friendly and attentive and the food is amazing. My personal favs are the fattoush salad (and I always add feta) and the falafil platter. I am pretty picky about my falafel, and the falafel at Anita's is always great. You can usually find me here (or carrying out) at least once per week :)

Very nice restaurant. Unique decor. They specialize in Lebanese food. I had the chicken feta fattoush salad. I enjoyed it. The hummus with pitas made a great appetizer. Great people watching. We ate outside on the veranda as it was August. They have heaters outside for the cooler weather. The place is located right on Woodward Ave., in the heart of downtown Ferndale.

$30 fed my husband and I quite well with a wide variety of lebanese tastiness. the good: i like the decor; love the juice bar (you can make your own combo); the prices (considering it's the most asthetically pleasing lebanese restaurant i've been to, i expected higher prices. i haven't been to many, though), had a celebrity sighting (in ferndale? yes, in ferndale) which was our entertainment. great outdoor patio (greenery, shaded, and good for ferndale people watching) the food: unique hummus. it was much richer than i've had before. it was really great, but it was bugging me to try and figure it out. all the other food was, honestly, pretty standard, but good. the bad: it doesn't take long to get crowded. hubs and i got there around 6:15pm and it didn't take long for all the tables to fill up. by the time we left, there were at least 3 groups in line for a table. bottom line: i might crave the hummus, but it won't keep me up at night. i will go again and again, but take the time of day into consideration. love that it's in ferndale and really pretty's up woodward.

From the moment we walked in, I had a good feeling about Anita's There was a slight wait so we wandered over to the wine bar where we were greeted by Jennifer, who we later found out happened to be the owner, and daughter of the original Anita. When we told her we were in the mood for a good, unique, red wine and she proceeded to show us a variety of interesting choices, all at fantastic prices, and offered a taste of each in order to decide. This fantastic level of service continued throughout the entire evening. For an appetizer we had the vegetarian grape leaves which were homemade, and served warm with yogurt sauce and a bit of tabbouleh. Yum! For entrees I had the lamb shish kabob, and my dining mate had the salmon, both were perfectly cooked, fresh, and delicious. Both were served with rice, tabbouleh, hummus, warm pita, AND a choice of soup, all of which was completely delicious. We also requested a side of their garlic sauce, at the recommendation of my fellow diner, which was over the top amazing. I am not sure what was in it besides garlic, but I slathered it on everything I had, in fact I can think of only a handful of things that wouldn't be better with that garlic sauce. The prices were very reasonable, and their menu also includes a variety of sandwiches and salads, which would be great for a more casual lunch as well. I left stuffed, relaxed, and with a smile on my face. I will definitely be back to Anita's next time I find myself in this neck of the woods.

Just tried Anita's for the first time on the recommendation of my sister. Great food, quick service, and nice staff. Definitely will go back again and again.

My favorite fall-back place. I've probably been in fifty times, and when all else sounds bad, Anita's is a great place to have in the neighborhood. It's my first choice, and my "I'm too lazy to make dinner" choice rolled into one. I've had one or two less-than-spectacular meals...but if you eat at one place that frequently, it's going to eventually happen. Hooray for Anita's. Stay super.

I've decided to convert to being Lebanese. Yes you can do that. I looked it up on the internet. And everyone knows everything on the internet is true. So back to my original statement, I'm going to become Lebanese. What brought on this change in nationality, Anita's Kitchen in Fabulous Ferndale. It's a wonderful restaurant with good food and a contemporary feel. The menu has all the wonderful Lebanese dishes. It has a little for everyone from vegetarian to I only eat something that had a heart beat. I've tried a little bit of almost everything on the menu and have never had a bad dish. In the summer time is has an outdoor patio which is very relaxing. The wait staff is very helpful if you are a Lebanese food virgin. Now some might say that they are Middle Eastern experts and this is not real or the best Lebanese food around. All I have to say is none of the following are good Italian food restaurants macaroni grill, olive garden, Salvatore scaloppini, papa Vinos. If you have eaten at any of these restaurants and like them please walk to the bathroom and chew on a bar of soap. If you can find liquid soap, it's easier to chug. If you are a regular at olive garden chug two bottles of liquid soap and say twenty Hail Marys. Getting back to my review, Anita's Kitchen may not be the best Lebanese food in Michigan but it's very good with nice atmosphere. It has a good vine list and a small but acceptable beer selection. Oh and yes I've seen Middle Eastern people eat there which I hear is the real sign of a good Middle Eastern restaurant. I see a lot of black people eating at the white castle near my place. Does that mean they have good soul food? So where was I? Oh yes, my Lebanese baptism. So the clincher for me was when my friend who happens to be Lebanese said their national alcoholic drink is an anise flavored liquor. I'm in heaven. Dunk me in a pool of that, smack my forehead and shout hallelujah brother. Ok maybe that is a bit much, maybe just splash some on my face and say bitchen. And if they won't take me, I'm not sure why they wouldn't, I'm such a calm and sweet person, ill always have my sambuca and ouzo. And I can still enjoy the wonderful food at Anita's Kitchen.

Interesting place, with pretty good Middle-Eastern food. Tabbouleh excellent (strong overtones of mint and lemon); beef schwarma excellent, but chicken schwarma too dry (over-cooked?); hummus excellent, too. Service was first-rate, and prices are moderate.

When we moved to Ferndale we were shocked at the lack of Middle Eastern fare in this otherwise foodie town. Thankfully Anita's arrived and we have become faithful patrons. Truthfully I have never had a bad meal here. The decor is a refreshingly modern change from similar establishments, the waitstaff is always courteous and helpful, and everything is reasonably priced. I usually even have enough to take home for lunch the next day. A sandwich or salad and a raw juice (available with and without dairy) are perfect lunch options and the dinner entrees do not disappoint. Check out the artichoke pie--a nice change of pace from the standard spinach pie on the menu at other Lebanese places. My husband can't visit without having the chicken fattoush salad. It's nice to be able to have a glass of wine with dinner--also not something most Lebanese places can boast.

We moved here from Los Angeles, where we were only 15 minutes drive from amazing (and quite inexpensive!) Greek, Middle Eastern, and Mediterranean food. We tried Anita's on people's recommendations, and were disappointed. The best item we ate was the spinach pie. Everything else did not impress. For me, the test of a good restaurant serving this cuisine is the kibbeh: Anita's is lazy about it, creating essentially a kibbeh brick and cutting it into kibbeh sticks. Not cool. But it would be forgiven if the kibbeh was flavored and cooked well: it wasn't. We will not go back, as there are less expensive, more flavorful and satisfying places to get this food in and around Detroit.
