What's not to love about good 'ol Uncle Ray's?! Love the homemade ice-cream for sure! Love the soft-serve - delicious! Love the many many toppings - yummy! Love the great shakes - OREOS!! Love the friendly service, always with a smile! Love the drive-thru - make for a quick stop on the way home. Love the delicious cones!! Really, I love Uncle Ray's. My personal fave is the black-cherry sundae.

Why did I live in Fenton for 2 years and not come here?! This is the bomb. I came once, and had to come back. Then I had to come back again. And I think I have to go back again... I assume anything you get will be delicious... I got the vanilla custard ice cream, and cappuccino crunch, and fudge ice cream, and pistachio... 5 stars all day! Don't let me forget to mention the sweet service, ice cream with a smile!

My family has been coming to Uncle Rays since we moved to the area when the boy was 4. He is now 19. And the amazing thin is that whether we are there once a month, or more recently once it twice a year, Dave knows who we are and remembers my son. Look, the ice cream is great (house made), the yogurt is creamy and expertly mixed with real fruit when you order, and there are plenty of fun things for the kids to order along with a well kept miniature golf course and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, those things are all good, really good. But what sets Uncle Ray's apart is their service model. You will never, ever find another food retail business with the same energy, enthusiasm and consistency in presentations and interactions. Each creation is served up with a "Here's your delicious ...." (Hearing them say this is why I like to order the Fudge Monkey). And it comes across as genuine and sincere. There is great energy behind the window as well (particularly if Dave is there) and the kids working seem to be having a good time. If Dave ever decides to close the shop, he could still make a fortune selling the service model! This is a real gem in Fenton and worth the drive!

By far the best local business in the area. The ice cream is too die for. We live 1 1/2 away and take family walks to Uncle Rays to play mini golf and get ice cream. The staff is always cheerful and upbeat and we have yet to have a bad experience. Just a word of caution, it can get very busy on beautiful summer evenings.

Uncle Ray's is the best ice cream place in America and I will stand by that statement to the death. There are myriad options for your sweet treat needs here. 1) the homemade ice traditionally-textured ice cream (awesome) 2) the soft-serve variety of ice cream (amazing) 3) the create your own yogurt flavor options (transcendent) 4) slushee things (and you can get ice cream ON TOP of that) 5) shakes (and chunkie shakes with things like reese's pb cups mixed in) And all of those things in various combinations. The owners are great, the staff is great, the ice cream is unbelievable. It's been around as long as it has for good reason. It's just the best.

So the wife wanted ice cream late at night. I saw this place on yelp and decided to call. Expecting to get a recording for the hours they were open. it was 11pm. I call and hear a voice loudly and enthusiastically say "HEY THERE AND THANK YOU FOR CALLING UNCLE RAY'S DAIRYLAND HOW CAN I HELP YOU TONIGHT" wait what??? This is a person? I got caught off guard. I expected a recording. And when the voice was so enthusiastic at 11pm i thought it was untill i heard the question at the end. I replied oh. I was expecting a recording of store hours. what time are you guys open till. Oh we're open till 11pm.. You want me to whip you up something. I look at the time. Im like oh so you guys are closed. He replies ya no worries what do you want me to make you, Im like no thats okay. He insisted again lol.. Im like no no really its okay. My wife was laughing as she could hear this conversation.. After the phone call shes like they must be over there drinking or something. They seem pretty excited and happy at 11pm lol.. Anyway this left a great first impression so we had to check this place out before we came back to FL. 2 days later we went there. but it was late at night. This place has a freakin golf course. Ice cream and putt putt. cant go wrong. It looks really nice. it was hard to see the golf course at night though. I ordered a banana split. and gained 2 pounds. My wife wanted to know the size of what ever it was she was ordering. so the girl showed her this small cup. My wife was like ohh thats perfect ok ill get that size.. Not knowing that the ice cream was actually going to not only fill up the cup but tower 12 inches above the rim (see pic) lol

Well worth the drive, coming up from Livingston County! It's a special family treat. Their homemade ice cream is amazing and going to uncle Ray's becomes more of an outing and less of a "service". Their staff is always so unbelievably friendly! We love it there!

Yes all the reviews are true, it is worth the stop no matter how far out of your way.

I absolutely love this place. It's like the mom and pop ice cream shop I've been searching or most of my adult life after the ones I grew up on disappeared. If I lived alone, I would probably let ice cream be my every meal here. I just can't get enough! Please don't ever go anywhere!

Dave -- you'd better still have the "Perfect Chocolate Malt" recipe. Wonder what that is? Have them make on for you. Dave, Todd, and the gang are GREAT, loads of fun, and REALLY fantastic ice cream!

My friends and I made an hour-long trip to Fenton to try one of its new restaurants that'd received really good reviews. We left pretty disappointed, but wanted to end the night on a better note. We checked Yelp for a good ice cream place nearby and, as you can see, Ray's has an incredible reputation. We made the trip over (we walked...turns out it's about a mile and a half) and arrived to see that most of Fenton was there, too. The place is popular. We walked inside and were greeted instantly by Dave (Uncle Ray's son). With a beaming smile, he asked us what brought us to town, walked us through the entire menu and told us the story of Uncle Ray's...which included pointing out a few of the hundreds of pictures that line the walls. Dave must have spent 20 minutes with us, telling us about their recipes, how they refuse to cut corners and how Uncle Ray's has outlasted the big boys like Dairy Queen and Coldstone. After going over a few of his favorite ice creams, the three of us each picked a few to enjoy. I went with the mint chocolate chip and chocolate fudge brownie custard, both in a waffle cone. It's some of the best ice cream I've ever had. Both of my friends loved what they got, too. Everything was phenomenal. When we were ready to pay, Dave refused to take our money. Wouldn't do it. Keep in mind, he knew we were out-of-towners who likely wouldn't make the trip all the way back to Fenton again. He didn't need to be kind to us, but he wanted to be anyway. After repeated efforts, I was able to leave some money on the counter and escape before he could return it. I told him to donate it to charity. He probably will. Were it not for Uncle Ray's, I'd have no reason to ever set foot in Fenton again. But because of Dave and the great place he's helped build...I will absolutely be back, and probably often.

This the shining star of Fenton for sure! I live in this town, and prefer this diary bliss to the others, hands down! Dave (the owner) is always out talking to people, happy, and genuine. My boys love their dirt sundae with the worms! My boys will also get an explosion, the ladies there will even put some worms on that for them (it is not supposed to be there), they will even put eyes on anything you order if you ask. They are always aiming to please, and with a smile to boot! We usually stop for some putt-putt golf too, the boys love it! So fun! Very kid friendly, and we can bring our dog too!

I have been going to Uncle Ray's Ice Cream since I was 4. I also worked there for two years (my first job!). This ice cream shop is a hometown favorite, and its as good as it gets. Amazing ice cream and treats, excellent service and a huge menu. The ice cream is made in the store and comes in many different varieties, including delicious seasonal flavors (spumoni, peppermint, egg nog). You can also get pints to take home. Waffle cones are made fresh in the store as well. The frozen yogurt is pressed fresh according to your order and also comes in sugar free. And the soft serve is the absolute best you will ever get. EVER. They also have ice cream cookies and ice cream pies and cakes. Oh, and how could I forget about their 3ft sundaes? Perfect for a party or after a little league season (I think every kid in town has had a taste of a 3ft sundae). The service is second to none. And the huge menu, where to even start.... They have pretty much anything you can imagine. And if they don't they'll find a way to make it for you. Some menu highlights: -Chunky Shakes: Vanilla shakes with chucks of candy. I highly recommend getting the butterscotch Chunky Shake with Oreo. Or the chocolate malt chunky with Reese's. -Pumpkin Shake: Perfect in the Fall. -Smurf Big Chill: Delicious Lemon-Lime-Blue Razz slushy with soft serve. -Apple Pie Homemade Ice Cream with Caramel -Carmello Sundae (Really, ANY sundae) Seriously, I could go on forever. This place has the best ice cream, hands down. I have been searching for a comparable ice cream shop and I doubt I will EVER find a place that even comes close!

Ever since I was born in 1997, my parents raised me on this ice cream shop called Uncle Ray's. I've grown up in Fenton for my entire life, and I can't imagine Fenton without the place in town. Whether or not we were going after a band concert or after a Magic: The Gathering tournament at BC Comix on the other side of town, Uncle Ray's is a great place to go if you're in the mood to satisfy a sweet tooth. Whenever you walk up, the cashiers are always happy to see you and get to know a little bit about you. The place is like an ice cream equivalent to Cheers, everyone knows your name. The employees, even when the mythical Dave isn't there, they absolutely hold up the reputation set by the Durant family for 30+ years by now. Even some of the employees have formed their own legacies working there. Now there are a few things you have to keep your eye out when looking at the menu. If you're in the mood for something a little more on the lighter side, you have to go with a blended gumbee big chill. What it is, is blue raspberry, lemon, & lime slush blended with vanilla soft serve, trust me, you won't regret it. If you're looking to get some yogurt, look no further than some chocolate (extra) peanut butter frozen yogurt. It is more delicious than any Reese combination that exists. Lastly, if you're willing to take a chance, this is a little concoction that I whipped up after one of my shifts. It's a Raspberry Cake Batter, Uncle Ray's Chunkie Shake made with home made Raspberry Cheesecake ice cream and cheese cake pieces on top. It is one of the richest things I have ever had, not to mention one of the best things I have ever had as well. The vanilla from the cake batter and the raspberries go together perfectly, with the cheesecake just being the icing on the cake (no pun intended). Excellent service on top of excellent ice cream makes Uncle Ray's my favorite Ice Cream stand I have ever been to, and perhaps there is no better ice cream shop in Michigan.

Friendly staff, amazing ice cream and yogurt and open pretty much year round. What more do you really need out of life? Just like other reviewers, I love the frozen yogurt at this place for the fact that they blend real fruit in with the yogurt. My favorite is strawberry-coconut. My family loves the hand-dipped ice cream for the fact you can really taste the cream and goodness in it. Just a note for those of you who have dogs- they do make doggie sundaes that you can give your pup. If my dog could talk, I'm sure she'd tell you she loves the doggie sundaes at Uncle Rays. If you're ever in Fenton, and have a sweet tooth craving you should definitely stop by Uncle Ray's.

It's not every day that you meet someone with a personality so infectious that it leaves you smiling from ear to ear well after your visit. But yesterday, while on an adventure to Fenton, my friends and I were fortunate enough to meet Dave. After feasting at a local eatery, my friends and I decided that ice cream would be the perfect ending to a fun evening exploring a new city. With one quick search of Yelp, my friend noted that Uncle Ray's had an amazing amount of splendid reviews and it would be worth the 1.5 mile walk to the shop. We started on our way, but before long, we worried that we may not make it before close, so my friend called up Uncle Ray's to check their hours. He turned to us after getting off of the phone and said that he just had the nicest conversation ever with a woman at the ice cream shop. We chuckled, and continued on our way. When we finally made it to Uncle Ray's, we were stunned. It seemed as if the whole entire town was eating ice cream and merrily chatting. It was like skipping down the yellow brick road and stumbling upon the Emerald City. Most of the customers were outside, so we decided to wander inside. It was there that we were spotted by Dave. He didn't miss a beat. He invited us to come in and make ourselves at home. As he was chatting with us, I noticed he was packing a pint full of ice cream for a customer. Usually when you order a pint, places tend to skimp on the ice cream, but not Dave. I watched him keep packing the ice cream in there as he was showering us with kindness. He even banged it on the counter a couple of times just to make sure there was no extra space. When he was done, he walked us over to his extraordinary wall of pictures and began to tell us the history of the ice cream shop and his amazing life journey. You could certainly tell how passionate he was about his career and everyday people. I looked around at his staff and they were all like him. Giant smiles, a sunny disposition. It was so refreshing! After chatting, we placed a couple of orders. I went for the Blue Moon and the Minty Chip. I'll tell you what: It was the best dang ice cream I've ever had. When we went to pay, Dave refused, knowing very well that we were from out of town and probably wouldn't be able to frequent his amazing ice cream shop. Luckily, we were able to strong arm him into accepting our money. He even offered to give us a ride to our vehicle, because he knew we had walked far to check out Uncle Ray's. I suppose I could gush all day about Dave and his ice cream shop. His joy was infectious and his kindness will never be forgotten. We hope to make it to Fenton again soon just because Uncle Ray's is well worth the long drive...or walk, as we luckily found out. :)

I was a frequent visitor to Uncle Rays when I worked at Camp Copneconic 5 years ago. I wish there were more proper ice cream joints like this instead of just a Dairy Queen on every corner. Wish I didn't live so far away, or I'd be here constantly!

Uncle Ray's Dairyland is Fenton's gem. In the 20+ years I have been going there, not once has the service or quality ever been lacking. The ice cream, frozen yogurt and soft serve are the highest quality I have ever had and the variety is awesome. Add to that the friendly service from a staff that truly seem to enjoy working there and you have a place that cannot be beat.

In our never-ending quest for the best ice cream we found this place in the town where we over-nighted. Now run by the Ray's son, Dave, this 25 year old establishment makes great ice cream--smooth, creamy, and flavorful! It was so good that we had ice cream here two days in a row! The ice cream is great, but Dave makes it fun! Dave is a high-energy, friendly, outgoing, guy who is passionate about his ice cream! In fact all of the staff at Uncle Ray's are helpful and friendly! You'll leave Uncle Ray's with a smile on your face and an ice cream mustache! As if great ice cream wasn't enough...Uncle Ray's makes great yogurt and soft serve ice cream, too! Dave made a terrific shake for us using real orange juice! It was delicious! We recommend Uncle Ray's not only for the ice cream, but the "fun factor", too! HINT: Ask for an "OVER THE TOP" for a nice surprise!

Peach banana frozen yogurt = love Or any Uncle Ray's frozen yogurt, really. You can even watch them blend the huge pieces of fruit. DELISH! The rest of their ice cream, shakes, and slushies are good, too. Lots of outdoor seating. This place is a must visit during the summer. My dog loves to accompany me here and lick ice cream off the pavement.

The pride and joy of Fenton in the summer. Everything sold in this small town ice cream shop is great. Homemade ice cream and cakes. The frozen yogurt is made to order...the machine purees and combines the fruit of your choice into the plain vanilla base flavor. Try the peach coconut combo- a perfectly clean and fresh flavor. This isn't the place to go for cardamom ice cream, but who really wants that anyways? Prices are typical.

We always have a fantastic experience every time we go here. Does that sound trite to you, like some generic phrase someone spouts off in all of their reviews? Allow me to clarify, then - I am completely serious and sincere. Let me tell you some of the reasons why: From the start, you are greeted by all employees, and often by Dave, the owner, with genuine warmth and friendliness - not to mention, enthusiasm, every time you come through those doors or through the drivethru. What a refreshing change from most places. I mean, look at some of my other reviews, say, for the Subway in Fenton, to see the sort of experiences I'm contrasting against. It is absolutely refreshing to go to Uncle Ray's and know that you're going to deal with friendly faces and attitudes consistently, every time. And the ice cream and yogurt - HOLEY MOLEY is it ever good. They make it all on-site and the quality difference shows. We have never had anything that we didn't like. Everything truly is just delicious and fulfills the needs of your child within, who triggered the craving that sent you here in the first place. The hand-packed ice cream flavors are all fantastic, and the frozen yogurt is hands-down the best I've ever had. I love how they blend their "Blasters" - actual fruit is blended into the yogurt, for instance, not some crazy flavoring. Of special note is that my husband and I are both lactose intolerant with cow's milk; we are dairy goat farmers as a result. HOWEVER, we have never had an issue with the ice cream or yogurt here. Homemade makes the difference, I guess - likely because it's not full of unpronounceable ingredients like you see elsewhere. This is just a really fantastic place. I hope if you were iffy on whether you should go, reading my review has convinced you to go on in and give it a try. We truly love this place and recommend it absolutely and without reservation.

A local favorite that is busy even during the coldest times of year. Staff is friendly, the answer to the question " what sounds good?" Answer is everything!!!!!!!!! This is a must stop for a tasty treat anytime in Fenton. Gotta try the fat free yogurt In just about any flavor, my personal favorite is Key Lime!!!!!!!

I wish Uncle Ray was my uncle! The creamy, frozen treats can't be beat, and the staff is always smiling and friendly. Their egg nog malt is AMAZING...all year round. :)

Uncle Ray's is a Fenton landmark, and it's always a special treat to go there. The ice cream is always outstanding, and the service is always friendly. I recommend a chocolate soda made with Uncle Ray's homemade vanilla ice cream. There are also several other flavors of homemade ice cream. The frozen yogurt is great, as are the specialty sundaes. The best part is that no matter how busy they are, you never have to wait very long for your ice cream. I also like that they put eyes on the ice cream, too. It's cute. :) One thing to note, if you're an out-of-town visitor: they usually close for a break shortly after Christmas until about Valentine's Day.

This place is a Fenton landmark. If you're looking for amazing ice cream, frozen yogurt, shakes, slushes, etc. You simply MUST come here. In the summer, this a great place to spend some time outside and mix with locals. Personally, I'm addicted to their frozen yogurt. They make all of these things themselves and the flavors are excellent!
