If you grew up in a home that was always full of good food, conversations, and were lucky enough to be able to feel free to have fun without being worried about your age, looks, or what others might think for your just letting go and enjoying the best thing in life....."today", than we have your house address! The What Not Inn! HollandNightOut on recent Monday, typically the slow draggy day of most of our week, the dreaded Monday where you spend a better part of the day putting it all back together after a weekend of fun took a drive to Fennville, a small town South of Holland, Headed to the What Not Inn. As the owner of HollandNightOut I try to make it a point to visit the establishments who advertise with us. I had been to the What Not Inn before for breakfast and lunch, the food was great each time, the server as well as the chef were very friendly and treated me like I went there everyday. My meals were, on both occasions, prepared quickly and were perfect, the server, who was very busy, acted as if it wasn't work she was doing but having fun, not stressed, no panic, just a friendly and perfectly timed with every motion and spoken word. This Monday was different though, it was dinner time, and I had no idea what was in-store for my visit. No one knew who I was, not that that matters at all, but everyone, treated me like I went there everyday. It was extremely busy because on Monday's the What Not Inn has a "Monday Night Jazz Jam" I really did not think it was going to be so busy, it was Monday! Although it was packed, everyone, with a smile and a hello, would make room for others as they came in. There was a band playing when I walked in, and after the band was done with a tune a different group of people would take their place and start playing another song but did it like they had been playing all night. Some of the people who'd get up and play or sing where professional artist from other bands, some were just a person who lived down the road, some where seniors, some where middle age, some were teens or early twenties maybe, and some were just kids maybe 10 or 12 years old but they all had one thing in common, some how, some way, they all played and sang like professional artist, like they played together every day! Personally I think it had more to do with just being comfortable, relaxed, like you are when your at home, with friends or family, the What Not, to me anyway, seems to have that kind of aura about it. One thing to point out here is that it was only 7:00 pm, it was Monday, the What Not Inn was full of family's having dinner, there was maybe 12-15 people at the bar, the doors and windows were all open so it was broad daylight inside, and there wasn't anyone acting as if it was midnight and they'd had a tummy full of cocktails! Absolutely everyone in the place was really having fun, one table of folks dining & talking with those at surrounding tables, the owner was out and about talking and laughing with virtually every customer, the kitchen is wide open so the chef and cooks can be seen and they are also talking to the customers, just wide open, and just fun. Playing the music....after a little bit of time I met a few of the people playing and singing that night, many of them had played together before and many had not ever played together before. Some were from Fenville, others from surrounding towns and some actually drove up from other states to join in the Monday Night Jazz Jam fun. The music wasn't all jazz, it varied from the days of those playing in the "Rat Pack" Sinatra & Dean Martin style tunes to modern pop heard on the radio today. Mom's, Dad's, children, and even grandmothers were up dancing, and you could straight up tell everyone of them was having a great time, as a family and friends even though they may have never met before.

First time here! Omg!!! It's sooo cute! Orchards all around and Pie PiEe piE... We chose Raspberry Rhubarb. Ummmm! Not too sweet. Excellent!
I was just thinking about some pie. the best I ever had I think is from Cranes- they have winter hours- daily 11AM-4PM, closed on Monday's... Is it the crust and local fruit used, maybe so, or just the formula they use to create their pies. I also like their apple cider too. Can't wait to get back there.
TRY THE PIE FLIGHT. If you're in the mood for fresh-picked, homemade fruit pie, the pie flight is the only way to go. You get four little mason jars filled with samplings of Crane's delicious pies for just $7. The smile they will put on your face is thrown in for free. We were driving around the area sampling local brews, and the lovely ladies at Virtue cidery tipped us off to this local favorite. Crane's seems to be a staple in the community for you-pick-it fruit, pies, and wines. In the midst of all the breweries and wineries offering flights of their goods, it only makes sense to add a flight of pie for dessert! Or breakfast. Or any time, really.

My wife and I got a Groupon for a 2-night stay recently at The Kingsley House in Fennville, Michigan. We live about 2 and 1/2 hours away in metro-Detroit. We really enjoyed our stay there. Chris and Brenda make a great team--they were so welcoming and gracious. The food was great and the B&B is beautiful and it's just a few blocks walk to quaint downtown Fennville--home of one of the best restaurants around: Salt of the Earth. Fennville is real close to Holland and Saugatuck, Michigan and we stopped by there to see Lake Michigan. We're looking forward to coming back soon! Terry and Tina S.
Brenda and Chris are fabulous hosts to this historic (and exceptionally well preserved) house. The breakfast is better than most brunch places, the rooms are cozy, and the porch is gorgeous. We had a great experience. It was also close to everything but not so close that we felt crowded. They know the area well and provide great recommendations. If you're looking for a quick getaway from Chicago, check this place out!
I was in the area for a meeting, took my husband along and had an enjoyable stay in the Northern Spy suite, one of the most unique and memorable B&B rooms we've seen. (All eight rooms are named for apples, a reference to this major fruit-growing region of Michigan.) Northern Spy, located on the third floor, features high vaulted ceilings sloping to knee walls that make the large space more intimate. The vertical surfaces are paneled in tongue-and-groove pine with a creamy pickled finish. And then there's the adjacent turret, with its 20-foot ceiling. You have to duck to get in there. By day, it's a great space for reading; by night, a romantic cocoon. Some might wish to find there a comfy chaise or big chair, but it probably would have to be cut in pieces and then reassembled. I liked that the bed was topped with a simple quilt and devoid of the fussy details I associate with Victorian decor. The new owners (since 2014) bring years of personal and business travel experience to innkeeping. This is sure to be a positive influence on their choices as rooms are updated and they try to strike a balance between Victorian charm and the sensibilities of today's travelers. Breakfast was ample, the place seemed very clean. The location puts you close to most of the towns and attractions of SW Michigan. We'd love to go back in another season.

Subway

The reason this Subway gets 4 stars instead of a 3 star review is because when I asked if I could substitute a cookie for the bag of chips that was included in my lunch value meal they actually volunteered that I could actually get 2 cookies instead of the bag of chips. A lot of places would have just said yes I could get a cookie instead and justified it as they gave me what I wanted and it was my fault if I didn't ask for the maximum. Or some places would say sure to substituting 1 cookie thinking they were doing their employer a favor by saving the employer the cost of the cookie they didn't volunteer to give like they should have. So by volunteering that I could get 2 cookies instead of the 1 I asked about they've not only got themselves a 4 star review, but if I find myself in the area and am hungry I will be happy to stop by again and spend my money here. Good job Subway!

I live in the area so I've been here several times. People say good things about the breakfast here, though I've only been here for lunch or dinner. Food is good, not fabulous. It's a small town diner, so ingredients aren't maybe the highest quality - for example cheese on their version of a Philly Cheese Steak is kind of tasteless and overly melted, like inexpensive cheese often is, and the meat is in tiny (!) pieces. Service is hit-or-miss. Because it's a small town diner, a lot of the young women who are servers know a lot of the local patrons, so my husband and I have stood inside the doorway for several minutes at a time waiting for someone to notice and seat us while the person who should have been doing that was standing beside a table of people she knew, talking socially about people and events (we could hear her - it's not a huge place). Eventually the man with the family in the booth finally said something to the employee, saying she should probably seat us. She continued to talk for a minute, even talking to them and still facing them as she walked away, toward us. Other times we've had attentive service, so it depends on who's working and if they're more professional or more about talking to people they know. If you can get a booth, it's quite comfortable. It's a pretty small place, so if you're at a table, it seems you'd be in somewhat tight space with servers walking around you as you eat. TV's are on, which in such small location seems a bit distracting if you're trying to focus on and chat with the person you're with. It's an okay place, and we go back from time to time, but it's more a place we go just because it's close and we don't want to drive somewhere else. Solid diner-type restaurant - probably best to try the breakfast, that's what locals talk about being really good.
Enjoyed breakfasts here as I was in town scouting locations for a creative project. Simple fare like goulash and great soups for lunch anytime, and attentive service in this busy hub of quaint Fennville.
The local diner and only place to get a hot breakfast in Fennville. Always busy, the portions are enormous, service prompt, and menu pretty standard. A safe bet.

We spend Fourth of July weekend here. It was my first time at a bed and breakfast so I was not exactly sure what to expect. I would describe the whole experience as extremely weird. For $180 a night I expected more. The breakfast was blah, The room had a musty smell and it felt like we step back in time 30+ years. If you're looking for extremely vintage then this is the place for you.
First time staying at a bed and breakfast so I was a bit unsure what to expect. But it was definitely just the thing for a weekend getaway! We've got some real pleasant folks running this bed and breakfast near Saugatuck. Very clean and well organized living quarters with plenty of space for the kids to run around or play basketball or the perfect getaway for two! We stayed in the Harbor room which included a Jacuzzi facing the bed. The Jacuzzi was also clean and in perfect working order. Water temperature was on the warm side but after a day of walking around Saugatuck and Douglas, it was well warranted. The bed was decent but could have been slightly firmer (I'm a bit picky with my mattresses) It's also an older establishment and you will hear people walking upstairs or other Jacuzzis being used. We're also dealing with well water (rust/egg smell) so do not expect some 5 star hotels in downtown Chicago quality of water. Comcast on demand was provided which perfectly suited our needs. TV could have been a bit larger but not that big of a deal. Bathroom was a bit small and claustrophobic but we overcame that fairly quickly. Breakfast was there for us every morning which consisted of eggs, sausages, waffles, fresh fruit, apple cobbler, 2-3 different cereals, milk, orange juice and beloved coffee. Can't start my day without it! Very nice living room area with a nice sun room where once can also enjoy breakfast. Heritage also has a pool available for use. Very clean too I might add! It's a bit far away from the action in Saugatuck and Douglas so if you prefer a bed and breakfast surrounded by the nightlife, then the peace and quiet might not be your liking. Biggest adjustment was the water quality which would benefit from Lake Michigan water access. Thanks again for your hospitality. We enjoyed out time at the Heritage and we'll definitely be back if we find ourselves in the area again.
This place is the Motel 6 of B & B' s. It is very minimally appointed with uncomfortable beds. If you are used to the pampering of a real bed and breakfast, definitely pass this place by. The decor is early garage sale. Religious decorations throughout. Breakfast includes cereal boxes set out, eggs and sausages ceremoniously set out in casserole dishes, and lots of carbs. My tea bag brand was "Added Value.". We rented a room with a jacuzzi for $180. The jacuzzi was nice, (one jet per person), but in the morning it was cold, in spite of having the cover on all night. Bathroom has a scrap of soap and no shampoo or lotions. It is clean, Ross seems nice, but I felt totally ripped off. It was a special weekend for us, and I got that feeling you get when it is cold in your parent`s house because they don't want to pay the fuel costs.

Great Bloody Mary's, great place stop after the winery and cider tours on Sunday's! They have great mimosas for a buck, $2 for the Bloodies.
Food was mediocre. Perch was severly overcooked. Only 3 pieces in basket. Cole Slaw was only a 1oz cup, but I did get a lot of fries. $10.95 is over priced for that. My wife had a Portabella Burger. That looked good and was a reasonable portion. Service sucked. Very slow. 2.5 hours on a Wednesday night when restaurant was not full. No appetizers, no salads, no desserts, just slow. Could not even get water
Not like it used to be, had the fried chicken, awful. Burnt over fried and greasy! Very disappointed
