Great food in the middle of no where. Looks a bit hodge podged together. Owner was super nice. Proudly offered us samples of his soups and fish. Fast orders. Chicken and baked potato soups were homemade and tasty. Mahi Mahi fish tacos were fresh.
I would not recommend this place. If you are going to have a "Farm Stand," in Empire, it shouldn't be stocked with things that were clearly NOT grown in Northern Michigan. Like Lemons. Which don't grow here, ever, even if you have a greenhouse. There are plenty of real farm stands around the area that actually sell what they grow, and this is not one of them. It's insulting to the local farmers, and false advertising. Also, it's kind of creepy to have a room with bunk beds in the back of the store directly open to the rest of the business. Do they live there? Is it also a rental property? It's a little bit strange, especially in a venue that serves food. I wouldn't go back. The place is cramped and it seems like they are trying to do too much in a small space. There are better shops for coffee and sandwiches around the area, and they don't have bunk beds!
An eclectic mix of items in this restaurant/shoppe/farmers market. Don't let the mixed messages confuse you and just order the comfort food and get out. I thought the food was very good and different, my husband was too perturbed by the inside to really enjoy it. In the end this review is for the food, not the atmosphere.

Great place for burgers and root beer, but the star of the show for me were the tater tots! They were fabulous - best ever. Heavenly. Caesar salad was surprisingly good, with lots of nice fresh grated Parmesan. The sweet potato fries were excellent, crinkle cut, crispy on the outside and tasty on the inside - yum! Atmosphere is plain Up North casual. Service was a bit slow for us. Overall, it makes our list of places to go whenever in the area and in the mood for a casual lunch.
Stopped here with my family after Sleeping Bear Dunes before hitting the beach. The food was good, and service was ok, but the prices were a bit high for basically pub burgers. The kids menu seemed especially overpriced for fries and popcorn chicken. I guess being the only show in town gives you the ability to raise your price. Overall it was decent food and we left full.
Looking forward to getting my growlers filled with root beer and sinking my teeth into some amazing burgers!!! Great hidden gem!

I'm not sure what's up with the poor reviews here, but we had a perfectly fine time here tonight after a long day of dunes and river floating. I'd give it 3 1/2 if I could, but I'll go with 4 stars to offset the low current rating. Village was open until 11, and since we didn't get off the river until 9 and were operating in a west coast timezone (3 hours different), this was great. We had a pizza with some fantastic sausage and a great NY style crust. Waitresses were friendly, and the whole place had a small town late night feel. Tried the local special of Smelt (small fried fish) and it was great too. Now I'll agree many other items seemed overpriced, like $20 nachos, but the pizza was fantastic and reasonably priced. So I guess come for the pizza, good hours, good beer selection, and accept the cost of resort town pricing for the other stuff!
I am shocked this place has such poor reviews. My family and I have been coming here for years and have never had a bad experience! Their pizza is amazing and huge, the wings are very tasty (our favorite app) and they have a great selection of local and nationally distributed beers to boot! A little something for everyone. It's probably best for my health I live 10hrs away or I'd be here at least 1x a week. You've gotta stop in if you are in the area!
Very delicious pizza and helpful service. We ordered in and as our dog was with us, we were able to eat at the picnic tables next door outside Gemma's. Wasn't a huge fan of their hot wings but loved their pizza. The crust was crispy, the sauce tasty and they were liberal with their toppings. Very much recommend this place
