Love the turkey on a hard roll not the greatest looking place but the service and staff are great. I'm glad I live nearby.

This is my home away from my kitchen when it comes to sandwiches. Their subs are GREAT!! I've spent many years at the Detroit location and this one. Both spots are fantastic but the Detroit spot changed owners a few years back and just isn't the same as years past. I prefer the soft roll over the hard roll but both are Dam Good. 6 and 2 with extra sauce is my fav. You will never go to a franchise sub shop again after eating here. Love the ladies there.

This place is perfect when I need a fast lunch. I prefer the hard bread for my sandwich. I usually get a 6on2 on hard. It's fast, the staff is friendly, and I always get a smiley drawn on my sandwich. There isn't a lot of seating, so I like to grab a sandwich on lunch break and take it to the nearby park picnic tables on nice days.

    - Super fast service, very reasonable with pricing and SO MUCH FOOD! Great meal for lunch or even dinner if you don't have a lot of time on your hands. I would highly recommend this place since it was recommended to me.

Went in today and ordered a couple hard roll 6&2s, but after we got home, we noticed they mistakenly made 5&1s, which were tasty, but definitely not as good. Too much bread, not enough filling. We asked about the different refrigerated salads and they said the pasta and mustard-potato were both homemade. We went with the $2 mustard potato and found it tasted far too sweet. I wouldn't order it again. They said the red skin potato was most popular.

Great Italian subs. I love that they Alice the onions thin and pile them on. Very fast service and the price is reasonable. For some reason this place closes way too early. I have two requests, stay open for regular restaurant hours and add some peppers as a topping!

Grab a 6-&-2 on soft bread if it's your first time going. Awesome spot, solid sandwiches...just wish their business hours were more consistent.

I would be willing to give this another go, but as of today it is only 3 stars... Of the 5 meat I mdo Not really like 1.. it was extra to hold the mortdella (next time, I will just order it & take it off myself).. And, we ordered peppers on all the subs in my pick up (nobody had any peppers).. Guess it's ok, they didn't charge us for them... BUT, it may have made this sub.. a super sub... So far it was just ok! I did hear that the other location is better. Apparently they have barrels of olives, pickles & pepper's.. (this location did NOT).. Since I do love a pickled pepper I promise to give the other location a try & get back with you! Cause wouldn't you love a pickled pepper too?

My husband is totally addicted to the V. Their layered sandwiches are very tasty, also their deli sandwiches. The steak and cheese, however, is bland, I have not had any of the other grilled sandwiches. My husband also loves their pizza bread, they usually have a basket on the counter with a few in it you can just grab. I had to re-review based on my husbands love of this place, I personally would give them 3 stars.

Price has increased to $6.25 for the smoked turkey. Everything else still the same except they have a few soups and side salads (i.e. potato salad) now too.

Hoagie - HOE-gee: could be in reference in to pork or "hog" meat sandwiches, or a possible racial slur of "honky sandwich" (my personal favorite interpretation of the etymology of the word) I've been on a hoagie kick. Quick, easy, delicious, and satisfying. So far I've been to Alcamo's, here and all the way out to Ventimiglia on a quest for the most meaty, delicious, appetite suppressing hoagie. Service is smug, but quick. Two teenage boys making subs, an older gentleman taking orders, in an unusually dark, extremely quiet, and otherwise spartan place. There's no life. It takes on the feel that much of Detroit has. Some embers still burn, there's a soul somewhere, but it's clear that it ain't what it used to be. Enough social history, on the physical exam: the sub was as sad as the interior. Five layers of meat? Whoa. Take a look for yourself. It is some of the saddest, thinnest layers of meat ever. The mortadella they use is not remarkable in any way. Not spicy, more like Oscar Meyer baloney than actual true salume. And the sauce? Unremarkable, could hardly taste it. Where has all the flavor gone? What the real kicker was, what really got this a 2 star instead of a 3 star experience? The lettuce was browning. The shredded lettuce, the SAME shredded lettuce that Subway uses, was past its prime. 5 meat + 1 cheese = $5 (don't ask what the 5 meats ARE, because I didn't see any description, just assume pork, pork, and more pork) 6 meat + 2 cheese = $5.75 15 layers meat + 3 layers cheese = $10.75 They've got regular deli and grilled sandwiches too. They accept credit cards, and do not carry my precious Dr. Browns. I wouldn't come running here, but if you're around Dearborn -- and looking for something that doesn't resemble a falafel -- try one of the hoagie shops! Lettuce aside, this place is still better than Subway by a LONG shot.

OK so I didn't actually order from the Restaurant. My friend was working at his job and just happened to have a half a turkey sub for me. All I can say is Wow, it was absolutely delicious. Perfectly portioned turkey breast topped this thinly sliced tomato lettuce and a blend of jardiniere peppers. It was all that and a bad of chips :)

Just absolutely amazing sandwiches... But leave room for a nap if you eat the whole thing haha... Fantastic.

I've been going to Gonella's for about 20 years. Never had a bad sandwich. I keep it simple with a 5 and 1 on a soft roll. Add a pickle and a bag of chips and you've got a meal that's better than any of the garbage low quality sandwich's from subway. Staff is always friendly and fast. For those who are confused with the ordering system, the first # is the amount of meat and the second # is amount of cheese. The menu does not specify what the meat and cheeses are, but if you ask they will gladly tell you.

I used to work in Dearborn and came here often. now that i work on the other side of town i rarely get to V Gonellas but still think about and crave it often. The best turkey sub on the planet IMHO. turkey on hard roll with oil AND mayo, lettuce, tomato. To die for. I will agree with other reviews that the employees are miserable and rude, but I go there for the food - think "soup nazi".

Continued my eternal quest to find superior Italian Subs by stopping into Gonella's last week. To put it nicely, the search is not over. I went with the "6-2". I took that to mean 6 different meats and 2 different cheeses. Silly me, that meant how many pieces of meat and cheese. I guess I'm used to Italians erring on the side of over-serving. There isn't really much else to say. The subs are pretty much blah and nothing special...and the prices aren't good enough to say "well, It wasn't the biggest or best sub, but it was cheap so no big deal."

I love a shop that focuses on a small menu and does it well. Call out how much sliced meat and cheese you wish and your choice of hards or soft italian rolls. Make mine a 6 and 2 hard please!

Been here a couple times and their subs are pretty good. There ordering system is pretty damn confusing though. 5 and 1 or 6 and 2, honestly i have no idea what that means and I just end up copying off of the guy in front of me and it always works out. Another flaw is there aren't many spots for you to eat inside. Ohh and the girls that work here are usually pretty cute.

I'm surprised to be the first to review this place. It's a long-time favorite for awesome subs/grinders/hoagies (depending on where you're from) in a no-nonsense atmosphere. I originally grew up in Southwest Detroit and the Gonella's there was my first exposure to quality meats on a crusty loaf of bread. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the same meats, bread etc is available right my current neighborhood in Dearborn. Parking can be spotty in front or back, on a busy Outer Drive (and being next door to the Elmhurst Tap Room, see review here : yelp.com/biz/elmhurst-ta… ), but it's worth a trip around the block to order what can be a highly-recommended sandwich. They also have soup, desserts and soft-drinks to fill out a satisfying lunch choice if you're in the neighborhood.

Delicious. Definitely hits the spot as a great lunch spot. Best Italian subs in Dearborn. Go simple with a 5 and 1 (5 meats, 1 cheese) on the hard roll for lunch. Quick, cheap, legit. Better than Alcamo's, La Penguina and well Jimmy John's.

  • Bitsy S.

I don't get over there too often but when I need a shot of a really good Italian sub, this is the place to go. As for Brian who reviewed and said this is NOT the original Gonella's, he's only part right. This is not the original store. The one on Oakwood is, BUT - it's not owned by Gonella's any longer. They sold it years ago. This Gonella's on Outer Drive is the original owner's son - so therefore - it IS THE ORIGINAL.

Been coming here for years. Infact we used to skip school and come here. Not much had changed. Great meats & cheeses and excellent bread and dressing round out the true daego-wich expereince. I could eat these every day and not get tired of them. HARD roll till I die!

  • Longball F.

The original sub under $5, in fact under $4! Great bread...hard or soft rolls, good tangy dressing that really makes the sandwich what it is! They wrap the sandwiches in white kraft paper and put smiley faces on them. Busy at lunch. Parking can be a problem!
